I'm unbelievably happy that I found this place. I've been wanting to box for THE longest time and I came across this place on Groupon and it's one of the best "investments" I've made. Since boxing is my main focus, I've been going to Sue and Marshall's and Joseph's class. This family can kick BUTT. I haven't sweat so much before; it's incredible. After only 5 sessions it grew on me so fast that I've committed and bought gloves, wraps, and now I want my own punching bag. I've also taken the Upper Body with Abs with Erin and that was also great. I was sore for a couple days after. Parking is also very easy. There's a garage below and no charge! Also in a great/safe location. I'm going to purchase the 50 classes and I'm stoked! I wish I knew about this place earlier, but better late than never! read more

So this is too little too late, but I attended Pulse classes before the shut down and MY GOD ARE THEY INTENSE. I loved the variety of classes, from cardio, to kickboxing, to specifically targeting my doughy bottom portion. That being said, the class is what you make it. The trainers all pushed and encouraged you, but never in an overly aggressive way. I miss it, and can't wait to get back to it. I walked in a few months ago not knowing a damn thing about boxing. I still don't really know much of a damn thing about boxing but I'm learning how to hit and hit pretty hard! I walk out drenched every time and my heart is pounding from all the aggression I take out on the bag. Mark is amazing and his classes are/studio is second to none. Avi makes hitting that bag look like a piece of cake - dude is Krav Maga trained for 8-10 years. (I wouldn't wanna get on his bad side). And Kaycee is a powerhouse too! All the front desk staff are sweet and very accommodating. Love 'em all! If you want a solid workout and learn a thing or two about boxing or if you just wanna go and beat the crap out of a bag (or try to at least), Pulse Fitness is the place. read more

THE ABSOLUTE BEST!!!! DEFINITELY THE BEST STUDIO IN THE VALLEY! I love this studio so much that I don't know where to start! I have been seeing Pulse when I would drive by running errands and always wanted to try it and decided to start off the new year trying out Pulse originally because Michael Blanks teaches his signature class DRENCHED here. After my first experience, I was curious how the other classes would be so I bought a package and decided to try boxing. FINALLY I HAVE FOUND REAL BOXING IN THE VALLEY!!!!! I love taking the Marshall family's (Sweatbox LA) boxing classes. I have only taken 5 classes and I feel my technique from when I trained when I was younger coming back. The energy of the studio is amazing. There's not a "catty" or "clique" vibe with the other clients. There are no cheesy instructors hopping around the room trying to impress the clients. Everyone is there to work and get the job done. The instructors don't show favoritism to the clients. They want everyone to succeed and be the best they can be, which is really hard to find. I usually like to try every class that is offered at studios before I write my review but I just had to share how wonderful this place is. Parking: There is garage parking in the plaza. I would recommend not wasting time looking for parking in the lot and just go straight to the garage and park for free. READ THE SIGNS!!!! Make sure you're not parking in another business's designated spot. Pulse Fitness: Located upstairs in the corner facing Ventura Blvd. The sign-in process is easy and you just wait in the lobby for your class to start. The front desk workers are all very friendly and make you feel welcome. The studio is perfect in size, the lighting in the studio is awesome, and I love the music choices! Classes I have taken: Boxing Box & Tone I love boxing so I tried these classes first. I love them both. Box & Tone incorporates other workouts within the boxing class like resistance bands, treadmill work, etc. I will be taking the 5x5 core lift class this week and will leave a "tip" on how I liked the class. Prices: They offer single class options and package deals. It's better to get a package in my opinion. They also have "daily offers" that pop up on their website so check that out too. DRENCHED classes are not included in the Pulse Packages so be prepared for that if you are going there to take DRENCHED. Sure the packages aren't cheap but the price is totally worth the quality of service and results from the workouts. Overall, this place is amazing. This place is the BEST. Absolutely my favorite exercise studio in LA and I've tried many of them. I've taken: full body blast, 5x5 corelift, below the belt, boxing, box & tone and 30/20/10. Every instructor I've had here has been fabulous!! The Marshalls are rockstars and always push me to give 110%. Larry is also awesome! When I started at pulse earlier this month, I was getting back into the habit of working out because I was working a grueling 70 hr/ week job. I ate unhealthily and found it difficult to exercise. My mom and I decided to try Pulse, looking to try something new. We arrived 20 minutes early, expecting to be onboarded (introduced to instructor, shown equipment, etc.). The staff was very friendly, but seemed very overwhelmed, even though the class wasn't too crowded. When we started class we were not shown where to go, or what to do. We sort of followed the crowd. Half the group starts on the treadmill, and the other half on the floor. My mom and I both felt neglected on the treadmill. There was very little speed and time direction, so we felt a bit unmotivated. I'm used to instructors pushing me, and giving various speed direction based on ability. While on the floor I felt the format wasn't well thought out. I also noticed the heaviest weight was a 30. If they had heavier weights, I just didn't see them. The instructor did walk around the room, but I felt like everything was a bit off the cuff. Overall, the studio was clean, and the staff was friendly. I didn't find the workout challenging, nor the instructor able to provide me with the encouragement to take it to the next level. I'd recommend pulse for a beginner. If I'm going to pay for a drop in, I would probably go to Barry's up the street for only a few dollars more. Improvement recommendations: -train staff to properly onboard new clients -create a format for the run block that is challenging and provides direction for different fitness levels -greater weight selection -quicker transitions: I felt like I was standing around a lot -start on time: big pet peeve. What are you insane or something? Coming to Pulse is like signing up for a hike, no scratch that a RUN up a sand dune in the Sahara Desert with nothing but some water and your boom box bumping your best Pandora workout mix. In short these classes aren't for the casual fitness junkie. Noooo buddy you must be someone glutton for punishment. Perks: Online Booking- All class schedules are posted online and can be booked online. It's simple, it's awesome. When you come in they give you a little keychain pass that allows for an even faster sign-in. I mean it's just convenient Parking- Ample and free underground parking. They even have a car wash service that will beautifully clean your mobile for only $20. They are super-fast and efficient. Facility- There's one room for cycling and another room with the treadmills for the other classes which also includes weights. They have lockers located in each of the workout rooms. There's also a unisex restroom. Side note - the restroom is stocked with feminine hygiene products so no excuses on why you can't finish your torture, I mean workout. No showers. The Workouts- I've been to three different classes Below the Belt- "Targets butt and legs. No secrets here. It's butt. It's legs. It hurts so good!" Possibly one of the dynamic classes they have. It's about 15-20 mins of treadmill work and that includes running and uphill work. And then there's floor work which usually consist of heavy to medium weights with squats and lunges and other forms of leg work. It's certainly great for cardio and toning. Larry is insane. He's the sweetest but at times you will think he's trying to murder you. Upper Body with Abs- "Give your legs a break. Work those arms, tone those shoulders, strengthen your back, and firm your chest. Oh yeah...BIG abs day !!" Just a crazy as below the belt and very similar to its structure but instead of leg work its abs and upper body. Again Larry will push you beyond limits but you will feel amazing after. Box and Tone - "TREADMILL, FREEEWEIGHTS, BANDS and BOXING. It all happens in 1 hour with So Cal's Number 1 Black Belt Family, The Marshall's." The treadmill work is mostly go-at-your-own-pace. But the boxing is the butt kicker. Your WHOLE body will be sore. But its super fun and the Marshall's are super supportive and knowledgeable. The workout is a great stress reliever and is easy pick up. They do have gloves you can borrow but I suggest bringing your own. Overall AMAZING place to work out. The staff members are friendly and personable. The facility is always clean tidy. It's a great atmosphere but it's challenging. CERTAINLY not for someone looking for a casual workout but if you love a challenge this place is for you! Also its ALWAYS super-hot in there with the dance lights so if you are rocking a fresh press you may want to think twice before going in. You will sweat gallons, puddles so beware. read more

I'm so glad I found this place! I bought a Groupon here after needing to switch up my workouts and reading all of the great reviews. I was a little nervous about a treadmill/weight training type program because even though I used to run regularly on a treadmill, my current apartment doesn't have a gym so I hadn't done it in awhile. I didn't know if it was the kind of place where they scream at you or give you a free tee shirt if you barf from working out so hard. Definitely not that kind of place. First of all, it's not like they just throw you on a treadmill for half an hour. The running is broken up, you'll run for a bit, go do some weights, go back to running, etc. Even when you are running, they are constantly coaching you and switching it up. You may be running really fast every few minutes, or they may have you switch up the incline every few minutes, so it never gets boring and you work really hard! The instructors push you, but not in a drill sergeant way. They will tell the class, turn up the incline to this, or pick up your speed by 1, etc. but they won't call you out if you don't do what they say or need to catch your breath. I find them to be very positive and encouraging to work with. I also like this because I travel a lot for work, and I take some of the things we do here and try to replicate them in the hotel gyms. I don't get as good of a workout as I do when I'm actually at Pulse, but my hotel-workouts have definitely improved! I'm very glad I gave this place a try and look forward to many more great workouts! read more

I don't even know where to start. But I was able to finally redeem my Groupon for the 10 classes and now I'm hooked and am definitely interested in joining once my classes are over. Be prepared to sweat...bring lots of H20 and a towel. My first class was the KO Conditioning with Josh. What energy and motivation this guy has and will definitely push you and help you out with your workout techniques! I've been to different workout studios where the instructor was there to get just the job done and collect a paycheck. Not this place! Youu can definitely see how genuine all the instructors are and they make you want to come back for more of their classes! After my class, I met the owner, Mark, who was extremely nice and down to earth. You can tell that he really wants to help out his clients and has a passion for fitness. I recently took the Box and Tone class on Saturday with Susan and Roger. Never ever in my life have I felt so amazing leaving a workout class with a smile until I met these two. I loved how they worked with each individual, even though it was a full class and gave their attention to each one of us to help motivate and inspire us to become better. I usually like to sleep in on Saturday mornings but because of these two, I look forward to waking up early on Saturday mornings now just to make it to their session. Overall, I got a good vibe from this studio starting from the owner and his team. I love to workout and have gone to many studios in the valley and yours has the "edge" for those of us who want to push it but at the same time not the pretentiousness everyone is really nice and down to earth. Although I love all the teachers including yours and they are all so challenging and different...Storm is super challenging and creative with his moves. I'm a Stroller Strides (mommy fitness) instructor and we do a lot of band work in our classes and yet his band combos I've never done and they were hard! And he was nice to answer questions after class regarding fitness and nutrition. Anyways my Groupon just expires and I wasn't going to buy any more classes purely due to budget, but I would like to buy some class passes just so I can take Storms class once a week (yours are awesome too but don't work for my mommy schedule no child care:). read more

I found out about Pulse Fitness through Living Social Deals - 3 classes for $25 sounded like a deal to me so I went for it. Even though I had a half year to use the voucher I, of course, waited until the week the offer expired to sign up but Mark and Melli who fielded my call and emails were great. I was given a gracious extension so I didn't have to do all 3 classes in one week. THANK YOU! A friend and I signed up for the boxing class. Our instructor was super down to earth and hooked me up with some pink boxing gloves. He heartily introduced himself and encouraged our class of about a dozen the whole way. We warmed up, learned punch #1, #2, #3 and #4, kicks and got to sweat which felt good. The only downside is that it's a little squish in there. Parking is 2 hours free lower level lot. Bought a Livingsocial for five classes, and after taking my first class I wish I had bought the voucher for 10! The people who run this place and work here are really nice and informative. I emailed to take a 5:30 class, and got stuck at work so I got there for a 6:30 class and they were totally understanding. A lot of studios are really crazy about enforcing when you sign up for a class, so I was pleasantly surprised that they were so nice about it. The class I took was focused on legs and reminded me a lot of Barry's Bootcamp, another studio I also love! Its priced lower than Barry's so that's a plus, but it doesn't offer as many classes as Barry's. The class size was small, which I LOVED! I hate when classes are so crowded you have to fight people to get weights. But they thing that really stuck out to me was the great customer service, both from the guy at the front desk and of the trainer, Larry. I will definitely be back! read more

For the past 5 years Ive been trying to get myself back in shape and having a real hard time. I found Pulse Fitness and decided to try the 30 day unlimited classes thinking that maybe I can loose 5 pounds. .. and.. I just completed the 30 days this past week and couldn't believe the results!! I lost 11.2 pounds, gained great muscle definition on my arms, back and legs and back to wearing a size medium for the first time in years! Mark gave me the motivation and extra push that I needed!! The classes are fun yet challenging and the energy in the room is fantastic. I have been working out and going to gyms for years (&years!) . Moved and couldn't get close to my beloved Equinox. Went to a couple of different classes and was not impressed. Basically used that as excuse to do nothing and turn into a big pile of jello. 6 months went by! I gained 10lbs and felt like crap. Realized I had to get back in the saddle before I just became one huge gelatinous ball of blubber. So found Pulse here on Yelp. This is absolutely- hands-down the best class I've ever done. It KICKS your butt, but in the best way. Mark is a great trainer, and the music he plays helps you work hard. 5 classes in and I've lost 4lbs! My legs are screaming, but my head says Oh, Yeah! Everything about the studio and class was 5 stars in my book - the -1 star comes from a disruptive person in the class, unfortunately. I took Below The Belt at 6A on Tuesday - it's a combination of treadmill interval training and weights - you can't go wrong with that! :) Started out with about 20 minutes of tread work, then 20 minutes of weights, and then 10 minutes and 10 minutes to finish off the class. Parking was very easy at that hour - you can park for free for 2 hours, and since no other businesses are open in that complex at that hour, you won't have trouble finding a spot. The instructor, Kat, was very supportive and pushed everyone to do their best. She was good about making adjustments if she noticed that someone didn't have correct form. The only reason it got 4 stars (as mentioned above) is that there was a very disruptive person in class who was basically yelling the entire time - it's one thing for an instructor to ask for a call and response and to respond to them at the moment, but it's another to be howling throughout the class. Not only is it disrespectful to the other people in class, I can imagine it's very rude toward the instructor. read more

I just started at this studio a couple months ago because I was staying the area and wanted to mix things up. First of all I have to say the front desk staff is awesome! I have had terrible experiences at other gyms and studios where they just don't want to deal with you or care about you at all. So far everyone I have met at the front desk here has been so welcoming and helpful. It's been a pleasure dealing with them. I love the Drenched classes. I was looking to push myself and this is the class to do it! I look forward to trying out the other classes as well. Michael always introduces himself to the new people and makes them feel welcomed in the class. Instructors at other places don't care to learn names to help out the newbies. I have been an athlete my entire life. But after having 3 kids in 4 years, I was struggling to get back in shape. A few of my friends had been trying to get me to go to Pulse for awhile, but I was always hesitant because I didn't consider myself a 'group workout person'. Wow. Was I WRONG. I went to my first class and I was immediately hooked. The motivation of the trainers, the energy of a room full of people pushing themselves to achieve their best, and the overall positive energy at Pulse are fantastic. Oh, and don't forget the RESULTS! At age 34 I am running 5K races as fast as I did in college, recently completed my first triathlon, and am in some of the best shape of my life. I love that the workouts are always changing so it is impossible to get bored and my body is always being challenged in a new way. Pulse is the best workout in LA. I absolutely love the class and Mark is the best! Every other trainer I've had there is excellent as well: Miguel, Ashley, Jenn. They all have the perfect attitude that makes me want to work out. They all know what they are talking about and are serious about working out but they don't yell at you or force you to go faster if you are just not "feeling" it. I would not hesitate to send all my friends there but I feel like everyone I know that is in shape already goes to Pulse. ALL the teachers and classes are great! No better work out in LA! If you've been to Barry's you know a great work out and at Pulse you get this same great work without the complete moronic behavior of Barry and/or his henchmen. Mark and his team of instructors are SOOOO nice but firm yet helpful and the best of all encouraging! Boxing is such a great work out and such a great vibe! Very well trained instructors (black belts) who are patient and encouraging and you sweat, sweat, sweat! The ONLY downside is when you leave a class or try and get into a class, some of the people go nuts for the treadmill. It is like a race and I never figured out why.....you are on the treadmill 1/2 the time whether to start or to finish - do you really have to knock me down to get to it? Maybe when you sign up for the class you get a treadmill 'token' or something just to prevent the combativeness of getting side the gym. read more

I LOVE PULSE FITNESS! These workouts are designed push you and really challenge your body. Within just a month of going here I have already seen my endurance and speed improve drastically. All of the trainers are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I have a previous knee injury and the trainers have always been sure to provide me with alternate exercises and work around my limitations. Last month I went to visit my best friend in LA and she insisted that I went with her to her gym. I can honestly say that I wasn't thrilled about the idea of working-out during my mini vacation but it was either that or stay in her apartment while she went. I have been a member of a handful of fitness studios (both big chain gyms and small studios) and not once have I ever walked into one even remotely close to this one! I felt like I was walking into a nightclub-- and although it may seem odd at first, it was actually refreshing to see change where you thought there couldn't be. The staff was awesome, and the lighting was not too dim but not that unflattering bright light you tend to see at most gyms. By the time I finished my HEAT class, I wanted to go to the front desk and ask for a Margarita to cool off! I've gotta say I'm pretty jealous that my friend is part of a studio that you actually look forward to going to but the workout was enough to get my butt in gear and motivated me to join a fitness studio when I got back home. I just love this studio and I've been to others. The lights are so right with the wattage and a soft hue that's not over whelming. The tone has a definite pitch soften and muffled. Most of the time I can hear the instructors. Sometimes I ask the instructors to lower the volume. Ohhh, The A/C is contained with the registers not blowing directly on the students. So far my favorite instructor is Mark Harari. Every class that I've taking from him is very thorough with the right intervals. His timing is right on! It's always a nice warm up and warm down with lots of stretching when the body is hot.The only classes that I've taking with Mark is his boxing. It's oh so nice and very flowing. They really mix it up well, from Cardio boxing/kickboxing, conditioning to weight lifting, cross training... I mean you name it. Granted I wouldn't join this studio alone, you still need to do additional weight training as a man. But to get in shape, especially for the summer this is certainly my go-to fitness gym. I love working out with the owner Mark & Larry H but also with Kaycee & Avi. These kids do their job EXTREMELY well, especially for being so young. All my life, fitness has always been an extreme part of who I am. I am certified in personal training, yoga and dance. I did fitness modeling and competition for years, so I am absolutely no stranger in what it takes to be fit, healthy, and sculpted. I prided myself on an awesome physique! However, due to some personal issues last year, my motivation and spirit declined and I fell off the fitness wagon. Not only fell, but was dragged around with it too. I gained a disgusting 30 pounds along with lack of motivation and horrible eating habits. I lost myself. I just recently moved to Cali, and I finally had enough and went frantically searching for a studio/personal trainer to help me. Being new to the area, I tested out a few studios and then came across Pulse, decided to give it a shot out of desperation and bought a package. I attend classes twice a week but also do power yoga/hiking/zumba/biking on alternating days. Here is my honest feedback: Pros: - FANTASTIC instructors! These people really now how to motivate and are knowledgable in what they do. (Especially Dave, Mark and Rachael!) They are always friendly, ask your name and encourage you throughout the work out. - A good, wide variety of floor exercises using weights/bands/etc. The floor exercises themselves are awesome and creative. However, not enough time is used on the floor - Every class is always different - Affordable considering what it is - Pushes you to do cardio (which I need at this point!) but there is a flip side to that.... - Daycare is available - Only $15 drop in class at 10:45am Cons: WAY TO MUCH TIME on the treadmill! Yes, cardio is necessary, but for how talented and knowledgable the instructors are, they can most certainly be incorporating "cardio" on the floor along with the weight training (jumping jacks, burpees, jogging in place, etc in between sets). The classes state a 20 min tread cardio split, but every time I have attended class, it has always been a total of 30 min on treadmill, then it takes time to grab weights/bands/mats leaving about 20-25 min of weight training. I can just go to the gym if I wanted to spend half my work out on the treadmill. THIS is not going to sculpt you and leave you with that gorgeous and stated, well defined muscle tone that I am use to. If you look around at the clients who have been going for awhile (and yes, of course, diet is a consideration here), they are thin and are "fit" (they can run and have endurance) but no one is really that defined and muscular. Even with increase weight, I am never sore after a workout. There isn't enough time to burn you out. -The music is sometimes cheesy , commercial music or mash ups. I hate when a good tune ends after 1 minute and switches to another song for 1 minute and so on.... -Parking is a big pain in the butt - Can get super crowded which then effects your total work out time even more to accommodate the class size. All in all, at this point for me and in getting back on the fitness wagon, Pulse is great since I need to shed weight, work on cardio and become motivated. If the instructors can add a bit more floor work and less treadmill, it could really be one hell of a workout with outstanding results (5 STARS!). If not, then unfortunately with my fitness goals (and yes, I am determined!) this wont be the place for me long term. read more

I've been unmotivated lately about working out; unfortunately, its become a monotonous routine. Pulse Fitness really helped me switch it up and get me back into the groove. I love the loud music and the upbeat environment in the classes. I really get the push I need from the instructors to accomplish a great workout. l always leave dripping in sweat and my mind & body feels rejuvenated. This is one of the "sexiest" fitness facilities I have ever kicked my ass in. I don't mean sexy, as in there are a bunch of sexy people working out (the people are pretty easy on the eyes), I mean, this is a sleek, sexy, stylishly designed and appointed studio that makes me want to sit and sip a cocktail. They have a beautiful room for Indoor Cycling with big TV screens that will display anything from the LA marathon, ocean stuff, or Tour De France rides. Excellent sound system and motivating instructors. The treadmill room is gonna kick your ass!!! Watch out for Dana, she will really give it to you. Mark is a cruel pussycat...you think he's being sweet but then you realize that your getting your ass kicked. This studio is SUPER-CLEAN, and their customer service is EXCELLENT! Minus 1 point for the bathroom situation (only two and some people take years to primp when your waiting to pee) and the fact that some of the clientelle is a bit snooty. read more
