I have never been one for group classes, though I have been a member of various gyms for years. About a year and a half ago, however, I felt a strong desire to whale on a bag and looked into Fitbox. Turns out, I am one for group classes; I just needed to find the right group and the right classes. The Fitbox community is incredible, and that includes the trainers and the clients. I love this gym. Great trainers and classes. Their classic boxing class is cardio focused and intense. We learn the basic punches and kicks, before moving to a variation of combos on the bags and partnering with other people. Gloves are provided with no charge. No showers, but there's a bathroom and water station. Plenty of parking spots in the back. It gets pretty crowded on the weekends, so take the earlier classes if you want to avoid that. There are other classes including Lifting and Circuit to mix it up as well. It's a one stop gym for those who want to stay in shape and have fun while doing it. There's no judgement here! I had such a great experience with a pre Thanksgiving workout here! The $10 intro class was such an accessible way to give this boutique boxing gym a try. I'll preface that I have had multiple years of boxing experience so I knew the basics beforehand. My aunt however had no prior experience, and they were helpful and she still had a great workout. And me? I loved getting back into it! The class was full, but the set up made it still easy to get a great workout punching, sparring and kicking. This is a family owned business and the instructors are all so nice, high energy and again, the core instructors are all fam: Mom, dad and the kids. It may be the cutest thing: In this instance, they taught the class together, and switched off leading the sessions. Boxing is such a fun and great full body workout and Fitbox is a total great space to do it! They have a little workout weight area, a bathroom, and the actual studio. If you've driven past this gym on Ventura Blvd and wondered whether you should give this place a try--don't think, just do! This boxing gym owned and operated by the Marshall family is legit my fave place in Sherman Oaks... And we have some pretty great restaurants and bars here!! It's predominantly kickboxing and a 5x5 barbell lifting program here, but they have the occasional stretch, sparring, Muay Thai, TKD Kata forms, and even dance class! They cater to all levels and are so helpful no matter your experience, and offer private training as well. The best part though are the people. Made some lasting friendships here over the past 2 years. It's truly a community and the Marshall's are so welcoming to everyone. I've taken classes from most of the instructors and they're all quality. They help with variations if needed, and they make working out fun again. They and the other classgoers are so encouraging. It's prob why I'm here so often! The deets? Parking lot in back is nice esp being right on the Blvd. Prices are reasonable and the gym is clean. There's a changing room and water cooler, and gloves are available until you decide to invest in your own. A typical class size can be anywhere from 6-10 ppl depending on the time of day. More so in the evenings and weekends. I think that's it! I could keep going but this is already a novel. Again, don't think about trying this place, just do it!! read more

I am in love!! FitBox is honestly right up my alley. I've been looking for a gym that concentrates on heavy lifting at low reps kind of like Crossfit and I finally found it! I took my first FitLift 5x5 class with Roger and became instantly hooked. He provided a brand new pair of gloves to me and even offered them for free! This class is fast paced and is based on the 5x5 weight lifting method which has 5 circuits, completed 5 times. Each circuit has a compound exercise and an alternate exercise. I was able to get in a good amount of squats, chest presses, dead lifts, clean and presses, mountain climbers, and a killer ab workout. Best of all, everyone was very welcoming and parking is included (a rarity in my eyes). I'm so pumped for my next class that I convinced my boyfriend to join. Can't wait!! read more

This place is amazing! The trainers give you so much attention and guidance. I've taken 4 classes and each one had at least 3 trainers so you get so much personal attention. You will find the 'all-levels' classes have a lot of advanced people but the trainers make sure beginners are introduced to each lesson for their level. Even other students are so helpful and attentive. So far I've taken the boxing class and the weight training and both had me so sore!! so you know its a great work out. The staff is so kind, friendly, attentive. They really give you a family feel because they literally are family operated. They're friendly and will take time to talk to you for as long as you want about your fitness goals. I have no need to get a personal trainer when I go here. YES YES YES!!!! I absolutely LOVE Fitbox! I have been training with the Marshall family for quite some time now and I am so happy that they have their own studio. Fitbox is located in a perfect area in Sherman Oaks. There is a small lot in the back of the studio with some available parking but make sure you're reading the signs carefully and not parking in another business's space. I actually have great luck with street parking around the area. Fitbox: The studio is so nice and clean and really has a family vibe. There are cubbies available for you to put your things in but you should make sure you get there on time to get one! Classes: ALL the classes are amazing here. I have tried them all and they all give me amazing results. I love boxing so that is my ultimate favorite class, however, the Fitlift 5x5 is also a favorite of mine too! Honestly you cannot go wrong with any of these classes so I say try them all! Overall, Fitbox is my favorite place to work out at. I highly recommend it to anyone. It was my first time kick boxing and I needed to redeem my last Class Pass session for the month. It was Halloween night and I reserved my spot the day of. I took the evening class with Jeremy, with 3 other people and it was amazing! I got my ass kicked! Jeremy was professional, fun, patient and motivated you to keep going. He definitely helped me with all the moves and my form. His energy was addicting. Made you not want to stop even when you felt like you wanted to collapse from such a killer full body workout. I wanted to update my review just because they deserve it! I attended Fitbox for around 5 or 6 months before (recently) moving out-of-state and I sadly can't find another boxing gym quite like them! I decided to pop in last fall (two years after I initially took a class there) and I was pretty nervous, sometimes gym people can be really intimidating. I was pleasantly surprised to find that all the attendees were super patient and willing to help out when I had questions or needed help with my form. Your classmates and instructors will ask you your name and make an effort to get to know you and make you feel included. I actually spent my days looking forward to going to the classes at night just because of the people there. The instructors are all awesome and have different teaching styles so it keeps things really fresh and fun. Although I really liked all the coaches, Joseph (the owner) was probably my favorite; you can tell he has a lot of passion for the sport. I asked him for help getting better and he happily popped in throughout class to give me the pointers I was looking for, was EXTREMELY encouraging and supportive, and even stayed after class for a couple minutes multiple times to talk about progress or help me out. No matter the class or instructor, every workout is so fun. I NEVER thought I'd be so sad to leave a gym, but after my final class before moving away, I gotta admit I shed a lil tear when I got home. What started out as a means just to get in shape has turned into something I want to continue pursuing and get better at, all thanks to the instructors/people here. Thanks Fitbox! read more

Wow! Talk about a good sweaty session! I've never taken a boxing class in my life, but somehow I came out feeling like a badass (pardon my language) with sweat dripping down all parts of my body after this class. Nothing makes me feel better than a good sweaty session! And FITBOX did just that . My first class was a boxing class (all levels) with Joseph that I took through Class Pass (again, no boxing experience). But despite the lack of experience, Joseph and his sister did a really good job going around to provide extra guidance for the newbies and adjusting my forms and teaching some boxing lingo. Honestly, it was kind of intimidating at the beginning of class because you can tell right away who comes often and who has no idea what they're doing (aka me). Basically, quick run-through of the class, Joseph (or the instructor) would shout numbers (combos) or demonstrate drills for you to do and you kind of just play monkey-see-monkey-do. Seriously. I literally just watched everyone punch/jab and try to follow along and eventually it will just catch on. I can tell people come here for the community because everyone in the class was so supportive and encouraging. Fitbox definitely has a community if that is what you're looking for! I would recommend this class for anyone looking to try boxing for the first time or just down for a good cardio/ab session. read more

I am addicted to everything FitBox! What a fantastic gem of a gym and community here in Sherman Oaks. I have been coming here regularly for the past 3 months and have had the opportunity to take each of their class offerings from each of their instructors. I come here about 5 times a week. The boxing classes are well organized and highly challenging. The instructors are very qualified and knowledgeable, and they make sure to go over every move so you never feel lost. And the bags are great! I've been to some places where they feel cheap and move around the whole time, but these ones are great- I can hit hard and fast and they stay put! Also, I love their FitLift class!! My PRs continue to go up each class as I'm able to lift heavier and do more reps. The hour class flys by so I don't feel like I'm bored or it's dragging! And with the FitStrong classes, I'm able to incorporate HIIT workouts into my week which are great for burning fat and improving stamina. Lastly, the members are awesome!! I've made some new friends and continue to meet new friendly people every day. We all encourage each other to work harder and learn more and become better. Great community! Just started a couple weeks ago and absolutely love it! Had no experience at all with boxing or anything related, was totally intimidated and nervous to try. Instructors are awesome for all skill levels, helping newcomers and adjusting for anyone who might want/need it. Typically I hate having to pick a partner for something in a setting like this, but everyone has been super nice and patient, and helping me when I need it which I absolutely appreciate. Despite not being a fitness buff or super in shape, I'm able to go to these classes, have an incredible work out and punch things!! Helps work out the day to day stress, in addition to making me feel more confident in my ability to defend myself in case that's ever a thing I need to do. I've trained with the Marshall's in early 2017 at the Pulse Fitness Studio. Ohh so nice to workout with this family. Now they just opened up their own studio with lots of cross ventilation. There are two doors in the front and one in the back. The noise level is minimal with the music none to little.The lights are not over bearing and the A/C registers contained where artificial drafts aren't blowing all over you. Wow, such a nice location with free parking in the back. There is free two hour parking on Moorpark Street with no meters. And meter parking on Ventura Blvd for a dollar an hour. Also lots of restaurants everywhere for a snack. Even there is a Panda Express with no tipping. Yes, yes yes!!! At the Fit Box Workout they even have their own dressing room. I can suit up before and/or after the workout depending on my venue. It's a nice place for photography indoors or out. Joseph is the new Sheriff in town with lots of deputies! I've taken a few more classes here and I highly recommend this gym. If you've never done kickboxing it can be daunting to start. However, as you stick with it your confidence grows and you get the hang of out. What I like about this gym is that they offer a strength training class and a half boxing half strength training class. The strength classes allow you to work on your form.
