After a few hours of waiting for the storm to pass, we realized that it wasn't going to happen and started trying to find nearby lodging for the night. After calling several places that were either too far away or closed due to covid, we tried The Banyan Tree and the owner Helaina took pity on us and gave us the last room, even though it was extremely short notice and she was really busy dealing with the deluge of water on the property. She was so nice--met us in the downpour with fluffy dry towels and later offered to make us a pizza because she knew we didn't have a car to go get food. We stayed in one of the cottages with two beds and it was great. The beds were comfortable, there's a full, well-equipped kitchen, and it was just nice and clean and quiet. There's also a beautiful view of the valley from the garden and a huge, awesome-looking pool/cabana/hot tub area (although we obviously didn't get to use it). So highly recommend staying at the Banyan Tree, especially in the event of a severe multi-day rainstorm!

The house is located uphill from Lahaina in a residential area which is kinda secluded, serene and quiet but it's a short drive away from the busier part of town. The B&B is adults only which makes for an even more relaxing stay. Our hosts were very helpful and attentive. When we arrived the front doors to the house were open and there was an envelope with a welcoming letter taped to the door for us. We made our way around the house then outside to the gorgeously manicured garden and pool area, and then to our room. I had an initial moment of shock when I realize there was no key to get into the suite and no way of locking our door upon leaving for the day but then I experienced the most liberating feeling when I realized I really didn't need to lock anything, the house is very safe and all of the other guests (which aren't that many since there's only 6 suites) respect each other's privacy and space. There is a safe in the suite however, if you need to store any valuable items. We stayed in the Kohola suite which was one of the two rooms with a view. Besides the amazing views (especially the sunset views which you may enjoy from your private lanai, from your bed or even while you shower!) the suite had a very comfortable bed, lots of comfortable pillows, an outside shower, a nice ivory stone tub, a small fridge and an electric kettle along with tea and instant Starbucks coffee. Due to COVID the continental breakfast is provided individually for each room as opposed to buffet style. We were asked to fill out a form the night before with our requests of items such as toast, muffins, hard boiled eggs, granola, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, coffee, etc and our hosts would have breakfast ready for us at our requested time. We usually had breakfast by the pool but you can certainly take the tray to your room if you'd prefer a bit more privacy. Also due to COVID, they were not providing scheduled daily housekeeping service which was no bid deal, especially since if we needed any extra towels, coffee or toiletries all we needed to do is let Dan or Amy know and they would take care of it. We were also able to borrow beach chairs and a beach umbrella for the day, they were available on a first come first serve basis. Definitely recommend staying at the Ho'oilo house if you're looking for a stress free, serene, relaxing vacation.

What: its a huge room/house/wing devoted to a comfortable king bed with wall to wall windows on 2 sides of the wall. There is also a large shower for two and lastly, a sweet little solar powered stove with 2 burners and small refrigerator. Where: Its 10 miles past Hana town. Remote and peaceful and wander the grounds swing on the swing, take a dip in the outdoor tub. You can stay in bed and watch the sunrise and or set. When: We went in August and it rained every day (we just happened to be there in a big storm) but you can sit outside and eat your meal and not get a drop on you. How: To make the most of your time at the Hana Bed & breakfast bring dinner(s). Once you get to there its a long 10 mile drive back to the town - seriously it will take you 30-45 min. Why Go: Literally if you get up early you will be the first on the trail at 'Ohe'o Gulch aka "Seven Sacred Pools" or to the Bamboo Forest which is on the way to the 400-foot Waimoku Falls! Plus, again the room is a honeymoon-like retreat! We went on from here to the west side of the island and stayed at a fancy resort. But this place to stay is our best memory of Maui!

This was, by far, our favorite. Located away from it all on the South Shore of Maui this Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place to stay after driving the Road to Hana. It is just a few miles from the Seven Sacred Pools and Haleakala National Park. The room is very clean and features a gorgeous bathroom with a giant shower. There are plenty of extra blankets, towels, books, guides, beach equipment, and bottles of water. There is a deck off of the room with chairs and a small kitchen. It was lovely being able to cook and eat under so many bright stars. Sam and her daughter Mercury are both very kind, hospitable, and offer excellent advice on things to do and routes to take driving. Mercury sells jewelry, so be sure to bring some cash with you. I purchased a gorgeous necklace for my mother in law from her. All in all this was definitely our favorite place we stayed during our 2 weeks in Hawaii. We look forward to returning one day.

After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit hesitant about what it was going to be like. Going…read morein with realistic expectations, I was pleasantly surprised that it was more comfortable than I thought. I did not mind having no TV as this is a great place to unplug and unwind and the oceanview from our lanai is nature's entertainment. The beach that you can walk to isn't much of a sandy beach but is swimmable although can be rough at times. Aware of what a mosquito magnet I am, I did not want an outdoor shower or hot tub so opted for the Iwa Suite which had a pretty impressive shower. The room was comfortable but as others have mentioned, is dated and you can see wear and tear. Since you are in a tropical environment, you will probably see small ants and even a gecko in your room which we kindly escorted out to the lanai. Thankfully, did not encounter any spiders in the room although they are around property. The fridge, microwave, and plates came in handy to enjoy our included breakfast and fruits we picked up from the fruit stands close by as well as takeout on our lanai. Quiet although you will hear your neighbors, safe enough that you don't need to lock your doors and a wonderful place to unwind but be aware that is it rustic.

While technically in Wailuku, you'd never know it; and this central location was ideal for sightseeing around the island.  The grounds were beautiful.  The sounds of the jungle (especially of the nearby stream) were a wonderful way to wake up in the morning as well as to de-stress throughout the day.    Tamara and Bob were very wonderful and attentive hosts.  Kahu (their German Shepherd) was a loving protector of the guests.  The comfy bed and clawfoot bathtub were lovely accents of the Orchid room (the multiple mini-refrigerators were also quite helpful); and having the lanai for dining and taking-in the ambience was a major plus. We highly recommend staying here, and would easily do so again should we plan another trip to this incredible island.

My wife and I are from…read moreHonolulu and we had a wedding to attend on Maui, so we decide to make it a short relaxing vacation as well. And Relaxing and soothing it was! Iao Valley Inn is run by a couple (Tamara and Bob) who also live and maintain this luscious, green oasis of a property. It's located right outside of Wailuku just as you enter Iao Valley Road. Once on property you could never tell the main town(s) of Wailuku and Kahului is very near. The property is also located near the banks of the Iao Valley stream and its flowing sound is so refreshing and soothing - there is even a waterfall to boot! There are 3 rentals: 2 rooms adjacently attached to the main house and 1 cottage with a detached enclosed Gazebo with a bed away from the main house. We opted for reserving the Cottage and boy were we impressed. If you go to their website the video is every bit accurate as you see it. We've attached some photos as well. As you can see the Cottage is a 1 bed (King Size) with a small living room, full kitchen (including a dishwasher!), full bathroom (just a large shower no tub), the entry has a covered patio area with a glass table for enjoying the outside without worrying about rain. A quiet split system A/C unit is available in the main cottage, as well as two ceiling fans. This A/C and fan setup is great - since you can experience the natural atmosphere without the A/C running - the windows are screened to keep the bugs out and the ceiling fan keeps the natural air moving if you like. The first couple of days were a bit humid so we ran the A/C - but the other days we let the natural air and sounds into the cottage (very, very 'ohmmmm') - if you are into Yoga or just meditating - this is a bomb of a place to practice those disciplines (I did some light Yoga and it was very stimulating). No traffic noise, just the running stream water, birds, wind and bit of rain. If you like 'action' this is NOT the place. The detached gazebo is nice: double bed with an armoire for clothing, lights, artwork, lots of windows (screened) and a nice entry deck. But I think they should at least install a ceiling fan to make it bearable in the humidity. It has no bathroom so if you stay there, you need to walk across the yard to the main cottage bathroom - which as an exterior door for that purpose. Other amenities include a nice light breakfast for the first day (Orange juice, papaya, passion fruit, banana bread, water and Keurig coffee setup), Washer/drier with detergents, beach gear (boogie boards, umbrella, fins). Lots of bathroom towels, Cable TV + WIFI, Alexa and even a BBQ Grill! We were so impressed we are thinking to return again just for the experience of staying put and enjoying all the amenities esp BBQing and enjoying the outdoor area. This was hands down my favorite place we stayed on our honeymoon - better than the beachfront condo in Kaanapali, better than the Four Seasons in Lana'i, better than the Hilton Waikiki. It is small and simple and clean - and 50% of the cottage is a huge lanai that looks upon the most beautiful, peaceful, landscape and panoramic ocean views I've ever seen. I think it must be the most peaceful, beautiful place on earth. We loved the yummy local soap and the freshly baked banana bread and garden-picked fruit that were provided for us. The nearby Haleakala Park at Kipahulu and its ridiculous hiking trails took up one day, and another amazing morning was spent at nearby Koki and Hamoa beaches. But best of all is the cottage. Sitting on the lana'i, we forgot about all our problems, and just sat, and sat, enjoying the patterns in the ocean and the lowing of the cows nearby. And if you go - read the guestbook - full of beautiful sentiments and helpful tips for enjoying the area. We can't wait to get back there!! We'll plan our Hawaiian vacations around this place.

We've stayed in various condos, they have all been very well appointed, kitchens have pretty much everything you need for preparing meals. There are BBQ grills and a lovely herb garden that guests and residents have use of. Many excellent restaurants close by, next door is the Fairmont Kea lani if you'd like to avail yourself to a spa treatment, or a cocktail at Luana Lounge. If you're a golfer Emerald golf course and the Wailea Golf Club are right across the street. Polo Beach feels like home and we will always go back.

We moved into Polo Beach club, unit 705 on a Saturday night. On Tuesday, my sister woke up at 4 AM…read morevomiting and feeling ill . She couldn't get out of bed for almost 2 full days. Her symptoms were vomiting, headache, and very weak. We thought it was either a chemical smell due to construction in the building and/or from the air-conditioning. She had no issues Saturday through Monday evening. Monday we were gone all day into the early evening. That Tuesday in the morning, I contacted the management company, Coldwell Banker Island Vacations. I shut down the air-conditioning immediately even though it was 80° plus outside. I opened all the windows and doors and requested fans from the management company. We let the management company know again that something was wrong and they brought over three box fans to see if the smell it go away. Unfortunately, nothing worked. Nothing got rid of the smell. My sister was too sick to get out of bed and out of the unit. We could no longer stay in this unit with the odor and no air conditioning. I wasn't sure what was making her sick. There was a lot of noise coming from another unit/s all day Tuesday. Therefore, we thought maybe it was something to do with the construction and a chemical smell. My nephew was in town at a different complex. He came over to help me and said the smell was terrible and we needed to get out of this condo. At that point, I contacted the management company again to let them know we were leaving and complied with their checkout procedures. Subsequent to leaving the condo, my nephew had a number of direct conversations with the management company. So out of desperation and not wanting to ruin any more of our vacation, my nephew found us a last-minute hotel room with last minute pricing. Since we are no longer going to be in a condo, we had to dump all of our food. So now we lost ability to be in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo for the remainder of our trip and incurred over $3400 in additional expenses for the remaining portion of our trip. My nephew contacted the management company again. Their response was they would send someone over to the unit. They called back to say they didn't smell anything. The management company basically said it was our problem and would not reimburse us for any nights. I feel that under the circumstances, we should be in reimbursed for 4 nights. My sister was fine after four hours of being away from the unit which proves there was a problem with the air quality in the unit. This condo and the management company ruined two days of our trip plus we incurred expenses that we never would have had. We wanted to be in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo not a hotel room sharing a room and a bathroom. We had just lost our mother in January and another sister was diagnosed with tongue cancer. This trip was for us to have a chance to relax and begin the healing process of dealing with grief. This experience at the Polo Beach Club added to our stress and ruined our trip. For Coldwell Banker Island vacations to just shut us down and say they didn't care about the issue isn't right. Why would we incurred added expenses if there was nothing wrong with this unit. I would certainly never rent through Coldwell Banker Island Vacations if this is how they treat their customers. It's unfortunate that we can't talk to the owner of the unit to let them know that their management company is doing a disservice to their rental.

The ants will find it. We put everything in the fridge or hanging baskets. There are paths to waterfalls and the ocean although you would have to be in decent shape to get to the ocean. It's treacherous and very very steep. We woke up everyday to watch the sunrise. Although you can't watch the sunrise from this side but it's still very beautiful. Kutira is very gracious and such a great host. They keep this place immaculate. I noticed the details like everything is dusted and clean. I love that they compost, recycle and feed their chickens with scraps. I love that there is no TV and we really enjoyed the sounds of the tropics. Me and two friends stayed at the Thai Houli place for 6 days and it was very comfortable. Be warned though, there is no AC and the geckos come out at night. For any sort of trails in the area, you must have hiking shoes or something with traction. No flip flops. You will regret it. The volunteers here are friendly and come from all over. There are great amenities that will cost extra. Like the yoga ($10) and Thursday evening Sound Baths ($25), Beach Towels ($3), coconut keifer ($13) So be sure to bring cash for tips and extras.

The room was dirty. There is no privacy in the bathroom. There is a curfew of 10 pm. My husband and I needed a quiet break from life to help our marriage and create harmony in our souls - the opposite happened at this place. Worst of all, these people advertised to have people vacation at their campground when the fires hit Maui. They did not open their doors to locals to give them a place to stay. They encouraged travelers to come vacation - even after Ed Sniffen, Hawaii's director of transportation strongly discouraged travel due to needing airlines and roads cleared to help aid people in need. I would give 0 stars if I could.
