Great place for breakfast, after enjoying a beautiful drive "up country." Limited menu, limited hours, and who cares. What they serve is delicious. We go up for breakfast, probably enjoying the 45 minute drive from Kihei going down mountain more than going up. Going down you can really enjoy the panorama and ocean views. I'm a sucker for ham and cheese omelets. What makes them great at Sandalwoods is the freshest eggs you'll ever have. I think they have chickens laying eggs out back. The ham in the omelets is a skimpy serving, but the fresh fruit on the side makes it simply a great breakfast. No decaf coffee, but chamomile tea fills in. No inside service for breakfast, which is what you want. Eating on the lanai lets you enjoy the fresh air and the view. It's a remarkable view in a peaceful almost-rural setting. Bring a sweater - it's cooler up here.

VIBE: 10/10 FOOD: 10/10 SERVICE: 8/10 - only 1 person Amazing food!! Service is only 1 server who is the owner nice and friendly always! Food is limited right now bc: covid. Usually a bigger menu - the sandwich is to die for! The rosemary aioli is like heaven !!

Kula Sandalwoods is a charming little cafe in Kula country just off Haleakala highway. Off the beaten path, but definitely worth a stop! The owners are very friendly and serve up an authentic espresso and absolutely wonderful breakfast. We tried the following breakfast items: - veggie omelet with cheddar cheese - eggs benedict with a delicious homemade hollandaise sauce - fried rice with a lot of garlic flavor and great texture from a slight char on the rice - hash browns - macadamia nut pancakes with butter and fresh bananas and strawberries A cute, quaint little cafe where everything was enjoyable and tasty. There's not much of the usual full island views from this cafe that are typical of Kula country, despite all the big, bright and cheery glass windows, but we were all so busy savoring our meals and enjoying each other's company to really notice.

Special thank you to Eleanor who accommodated our late check in to our cabin. We stayed here for one night as we were traveling to Hāna early the next morning. Kula Sandalwoods is located just past Kula Lodge on the left side of the road, it's not lit up to the extent that Kula Lodge is which makes it easy to miss but it is closer to the entrance of Haleakalā State Park (note you need a permit for sunrise now). Staying in these small cabins reminds me of glamping in Yosemite. I'm even a fan of the throwback curtains, bedding, etc. It reminds me of my tūtū (grandma). Being that this place is at a higher elevation the views are unreal and it's also chilly (they do provide a space heater). I highly recommend staying at Kula Sandalwoods for your next adventure to Haleakalā State Park.

I've been going to this restaurant for years and it's one of the few places on Maui that has maintained its mom & pop local charm. There are so many elements of Kula Sandalwoods Cafe that makes this place feel like home. From enjoying the amazing view to sitting next to a warm fireplace to eating their delicious, home cooked dishes, it's definitely a place to check out after watching the sunrise at Haleakalā or before a day of exploring Upcountry Maui. The inn and cafe owners, James and Eleanore, are always so welcoming and kind. I'd recommend their Eggs Benedict (they have the best hollandaise sauce!) with a side order of hash browns or their pancakes. You won't be disappointed :)

This place is great! We stopped here after the Haleakala sunrise hike and were warmly greeted by the owner as soon as we stepped in. We didn't expect to get anything more than a simple cup of coffee, but it's hard to say no to macadamia nut pancakes and Brie stuffed French toast. The breakfast here was awesome and we had a great conversation with the inn owner all the while. Definitely recommend after the sunrise drive!

    Summit sunrise

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here! Beautiful quaint little cottages nestled on a hill just outside of the Haleakalā National Park. We spent the night and then went up to see the sunrise at the summit of Haleakalā, and after that, we came down and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast (get the fried rice side!!), good coffee, and friendly conversation. We would absolutely stay here again. Picture of the beautiful sunrise at Haleakalā.

Although we did not stay here, we were just looking for a place to eat breakfast near by. James quickly greeted us and sat us down. We ordered coffee and an omelette, eggs Benedict with hash browns and fried rice. What a beautiful & quaint little spot to enjoy a nice meal. Thank you James for making our experience so wonderful! We will definitely be back.

From start to finish, our entire experience was absolutely wonderful. The hotel staff were all extremely kind and engaging, offering helpful tips and suggestions. We had nothing but positive interactions with the valet and the front desk. The staff that work at the on-site restaurants were also lovely. Our ocean view room was clean and spacious. It had all of the amenities we could hope for and the shower had wonderful water pressure. My only request would be that there was a shelf in the shower to put the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, as we ended up having to put them on the floor and bending over in the shower while pregnant is not an easy task. The linens were soft and I appreciated the opportunity to earn food and beverage credit or Hilton reward points if we opted out of having our room cleaned each day. The blackout curtains in the room were also wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the sunset from our balcony each evening and listening to the live music that was performed each night down by the pool. There was ample pool space with plenty of pool chairs, both in the sun and in the shade. Access to the beach was extremely easy. While we were there, we also took part in morning yoga, access to the complementary aquatic activities, a sound bath under the full moon, and the infamous luau. I also booked a prenatal massage at the spa, which was absolutely divine. Access to the Courtesy Car to drop us off at nearby restaurants for reservations was extremely convenient. We appreciated the complementary reusable water bottles and the local snacks and beverages that were restocked in our mini bar. All in all, it was an absolute incredible stay and the next time we find ourselves in Maui, we will absolutely be returning to the Andaz.

You know, the kind with a professional crew and oxygen masks. Here, you're living on the edge, and I kinda loved it. Once you touch down in Molokai, prepare to have your mind blown by Molokai island's sheer, untouched beauty. Molokai isn't just a place to stay--it's a test of your willpower to not run out into the wild and become one with nature. And the people of Molokai? They're so kind it should be illegal. A Beautiful Property Marred by Frustrating Service and Absurd Policies…read more My wife and I recently stayed at the Grand Wailea to celebrate her birthday. While the property itself is stunning and boasts some genuinely great amenities, the experience was a confusing mix of highs and deeply frustrating lows. The frustration started immediately. The valet was in a massive rush to get me out of the car without listening to my questions about early check-in. I was told temporary parking wasn't allowed without someone staying in the car - an odd policy for guests who might just need a restroom break after a long drive. Prior to arrival, I received an email stating that if my room wasn't ready, the bellman would store our luggage on the 4th floor and we could enjoy an "exclusive private check-in" at the 8th-floor Napua Lounge. None of this happened. The bell desk informed me the 8th-floor staff went on lunch break at 2 PM and never returned. I was forced into a massive, slow-moving line on the 4th floor with only four staff members helping about eight families. When I finally got to the front, I was handed keys without a room number and told to wait in the lobby for a text. I booked a 1 King Bed with Sofa bed, Ocean View. I was grateful they upgraded us to the Napua Tower for my wife's birthday, but the room lacked an actual ocean view from the inside. I could only see the building across from us unless I went out to the balcony and look at the right corner. Worse, the room wasn't properly prepared. The bed and pillows were messy, and there was a white, crusty spill (coffee or food sauce) over the TV. Despite calling to request a cleaning while we went out, housekeeping remade the bed but completely ignored the dirty TV. This was arguably the most nonsensical part of the stay. The beachside shop closes at 3:30 PM - the prime time guests want to be on the beach for sunset! If you don't return your Tommy Bahama beach chair (which retails for about $100 brand new) by 3:30, they charge a $100 penalty to your room. Furthermore, to get two chairs for my wife and me, the staff demanded we both be physically present to check them out. If a family of 10 wants chairs, all 10 people have to stand in line. On top of this, everyone is forced to wear plastic wristbands. For a luxury resort, this feels incredibly cheap, wasteful, and poorly managed. You are forced into an $80/night valet with no self-parking option - which cost me more than four days of gas driving around the island. Add to that a $55 daily resort fee, and it feels like pure greed when you are already paying upwards of $1,200+ a night. To top it off, my checkout invoice was wrong. My property credits were not applied correctly, resulting in overcharges that staff dismissed by saying it would "calculate automatically" (it didn't). While email communication was okay, the chat feature on the hotel's app and website is completely useless, taking forever to get a response. The pools and jacuzzis are exceptionally clean, well-managed, and expansive. There is more than enough space for everyone, so it never feels uncomfortably crowded. The poolside, lounge, and housekeeping staff were incredibly friendly and always willing to help with directions or questions. The beach right in front of the resort is fantastic. It's a truly wonderful place to relax and watch the sunset. Although email responses were slow in the days leading up to the trip, the concierge staff was very supportive once connected and personally helped me re-coordinate a dinner reservation. The room itself (aside from the view and TV) featured a great sofa, nice decor, and a spotless bathroom. Ultimately, the Grand Wailea is a classic case of "all sizzle and no steak". The natural beauty and physical property are fantastic, but the exorbitant and hidden fees, lack of basic communication between departments, and insulting, restrictive guest policies severely detract from what should be a world-class luxury experience.

Unfortunately, our experience fell well short of those expectations. Our stay started with being checked into a room that hadn't even been cleaned. After bringing it to the staff's attention, they did make an effort to recover by moving us to a new room, providing $300 in resort credit, and offering us an Oasis bed at the pool, which we appreciated. However, the service inconsistencies continued throughout our stay. One evening we returned from dinner to find another couple's honeymoon welcome package--including champagne and banana bread--delivered to our room. While not a major inconvenience, it highlighted a lack of personalization and attention to detail that you simply don't expect at this level. Pool service was another disappointment. Our initial lunch order of avocado toast, poke, and carne asada tacos took over 30 minutes, and a later quesadilla order also took more than 30 minutes. The staff did comp us a round of drinks for the delay, which was appreciated, but the food itself was underwhelming and didn't justify the premium pricing. What stood out most was the disconnect between the cost of staying here and the overall experience. When you choose a Ritz-Carlton, you're not just paying for a beautiful property--you're paying for exceptional, personalized service and flawless execution. That's the standard the brand has built its reputation on. While the staff consistently tried to make things right after issues occurred, there were simply too many preventable mistakes during one stay. This is a beautiful resort with wonderful employees, but at this price point--and as Platinum members--we expected a much more polished, personalized, and consistently exceptional experience. Recovering from service failures is appreciated, but ideally, guests shouldn't have to experience so many of them in the first place.

After all, we knew it was a great resort, and why risk it elsewhere? What a mistake I made! Things have changed dramatically in the past eight years. What shocked me was the appalling cleanliness of the rooms and common areas. The carpets in the hotel hallways were streaked with stains all the way from the elevator to our room. Also it seemed like the maintenance crew was working on a room next to ours, leaving a dirty utility carpet in the room next to ours throughout our stay. There were even hairs on the hinge of the bathroom door, large oil stains on the balcony couch (I would never sit on it), and debris underneath the bedroom chair where I placed my suitcase. It was clear that the bedrooms were only superficially cleaned. The bathroom doors also didn't close properly. The paint had scraped off, and we had to use a lot of muscle to push them closed. There was dirt all over the ledge of the door. Trying to get hold of anyone at the hotel phone was impossible. On our first day on the island, we left our room at 8 am and returned at 3 pm, but our room had still not been serviced. There was no way to call guest services from the hotel bedroom, which was a first for us. We went downstairs to find someone at the check-in desk, but there was a long line, so we left. We found a hotel employee and asked him if he could help us contact the guest services regarding our room. He assured us he would take care of it but it was still not done when we returned at 5 pm. We ended up having to look up a number on the hotel website to ask them to service our room at 5 pm! These kinds of things shouldn't happen at a hotel of this caliber. The parking situation was also horrendous and a huge rip-off. It costs $47 a day to park in a structure that was so tightly packed. Some of the larger cars barely fit in one spot, and we were worried that our rental car would be hit or scratched. I wish we had stayed with our fond memories of Wailea from eight years ago and never returned. At this point it is just overpriced, disappointing and underwhelming.
