It went up each year and it got to the point that it was just too much to pay for a healthy dog each month. His visits were only a once a year type of thing for his annual exams to the vet. And only one year while I was using the insurance did he get a little sick that we had to do a sick visit at my local vet. My vet performed blood work, monitored him, and cleared him -- nothing serious or chronic was found. One time. My cat threw up several times and became dehydrated.  Our vet recommended we take him to the emergency hospital for fluids. Despite this, Pumpkin denied the  entire claim, stating that the issue was considered a pre-existing condition.   This is extremely frustrating because my cat was evaluated by a licensed veterinarian and medically cleared with no ongoing condition, yet Pumpkin still refused coverage. If a single incident of vomiting can be twisted into a reason to deny legitimate care, then what are you really paying for? I get pet insurance for peace of mind, not to fight over basic emergency care when something unexpected happens. One of our Chihuahuas, Wyatt, broke one of his toes on his paw, and it was an extensive and long healing process (6+ weeks). Pumpkin was there every step of the way for us. I just found out that they do not cover spay or neuter unless there is a medical condition that you need it. The techs at my vet said they thought it was covered under the wellness plan (which I have!) This was the first time my puppy had ever been to ANY vet with the exception of vaccinations. We think she ate something on a walk that made her sick, and somehow that is pre-existing. Not only will they not cover the claim, but now my puppy isn't covered if she gets sick for the next 180 days. She was pretty sick and eventually we had to let her go to a better place. Pumpkin was very helpful. We received a nice card and a candle from them. She wasn't diagnosed till 7 months later (after a lot of trial and error from my vet) as a very rare and severe fungal infection. I posted a review because of a prescription my dog is taking for a year and now pumpkin denied it. The vet has to write a letter to pumpkin n explains that due to cancer now in remission, sensitive stomach Kaiser needs royal canine Diet . The problem is that pumpkin asked me for an appeal... although they made and assumption and denied the prescription diet for kaiser. IF I SUBMIT and appeal then any other claims will be stop for 61 days. Now they strongly raised the premium from 117 to $179. Sadly now I cant move out and imagine how much they will charge me next year. The vet ophtalmologist a year ago had to write a letter to pumpkin bec the claim " assumes" that the only eye kaiser has already has pannus. Took so-much effort and time that the vet said that he will not have pet insurances due to all the problems they present. I had another insurance for my other animals and NEVER they raised the premium more than 10 to 15% each year. Then Belen my malamute husky was having liver failure. For one of our pups, Olive Jane, we decided to get Pumpkin coverage for her as she's getting a bit older. After having coverage for about 3 months, she was due for her annual check up with her usual vet. She had elevated liver enzyme levels, so the vet recommended further testing and an ultrasound. We, of course, agreed to this. We submitted our claim afterwards expecting for the overage after deductible to be covered... but no. Pumpkin handily denied it, citing "pre-existing condition" as a blanket reasoning, leaving us with over $1000 in charges for the testing. Our coverage for Olive is NOT cheap - over $83/month with a $500 annual deductible. What you expect to get is peace of mind knowing that if tragedy were to occur, you would be covered. If Pumpkin isn't willing to pay for these relatively smaller amounts, how can you have any confidence that they'd have your back when the bills total well over 5 digits? I had trouble with them for many different things and wish I could switch but am stuck forever because if you switch the new company won't cover preexisting conditions. They know this which is why they provide bad service and crank up your costs every year. -My monthly Simparica Trio medication with them, as they didn't send them to me on time and my dogs were always out of medicine, so now I have to go buy them at the vet and get them reimbursed. -Claims take awhile, one claim took 2 months to get reimbursed. -One dog's policy went up ***47%*** this year and when I asked why I got a canned response saying I can expect my policy to go up 10-15% per year. However after just one year, with a very healthy dog with no pre-existing conditions and no changes to my policy that would increase my premium (I actually removed the wellness essentials package, which should have decreased my premium), my premium went up an exorbitant amount of 51% bringing it to $97 per month. I can't believe this is a justifiable one-year premium increase based on no change in coverage.
