It took me 7 months to write this review because I still don't want to believe it to be true. My Fluffy passed away at this location. We had to make the hard decision to let him go. The staff went above and beyond 4 years prior to the 2024 visit we had this February. Our baby had a rare disorder called ITP which caused him to bleed out. We tried all that we could but in the end decided our baby needed to be given rest. He beat diabetes in 2023 only had it for a year. 2023 was the best year of his life till Feb 2024 took him away. REST IN PEACE OUR ORANGE MAIN COON/TABBY MIX The staff told use he was in shock from all the blood lost. We had thought he was getting better. The room they take you to euthanize is so relaxed. They have a calming effect with a little water fountain with pebbles. The rugs reminded me of when I used to do meditation as a child. Its sad but this place really felt special. We were treated with respect. I held my baby until they did the injects for him to pass. Blue pearl did a great follow up with me and offered some grief counseling. We tried calling you several times this week trying to get in touch with a doctor, and we were unable to speak to one, even just for five minutes, even though we repeatedly told you we were facing a medical emergency. It's alarming we still haven't got a call back, and I am dreading the time if/when you do to let you know it is too late. It's possible there's nothing you could have done to prevented my pet's fate, but the lack of responsiveness is incredibly disappointing, especially after spending thousands of dollars for just one visit at your institution. I took my cat into BluePearl this weekend after he swallowed a piece of string. The entire staff was courteous and compassionate, and they took him back for treatment immediately after I walked in. They walked me through the plan of action and estimated costs so I could understand the situation. The team was able to induce vomiting so that he didn't require surgery or have any complications. An incident that could easily have resulted in painful surgery for my pet and thousands of dollars from me was avoided because they handled it quickly and competently. I had to take my precious angel Elliott here at midnight, alone, to put him to sleep. I arrived and I was the only one here, and then Josh greeted me kindly, took me downstairs right away, and he was whisked off to have a catheter put into his arm. He was back in my arms and died in my lap in a cushioned nest, with a lovely vet talking quietly to us, and she left us alone while I sobbed till I was ready to go. It made what was a living hell into a last moment of his life, a gratitude situation. It was due to the lovely and professional staff and the timing, and then a zero due invoice. Will deny treatments that other places routinely provide. Your pet will suffer unnecessarily and in my sweet baby's case it denied us more precious time together. Do not trust these people. Even when you follow up to make sure something is done and they assure you that it has, you will find evidence later that they did not... when it is too late. Take your pets anywhere else. Just when you thought your nightmare was over, when you contact management to show them evidence of negligence, prepare yourself to be traumatized again by their lack of transparency, compassion and competence. I agree with other reviews that they chose the most insensitive, fake, full of crap woman they could to be manger of this place. I caught her in at least 3 lies/misrepresentationd/ hiding wrong doings . And when I tried to show her evidence that she was just making things up she didn't want to see it. She's a lawsuit waiting to happen. You can't just make things up people have the receipts . Staff is incompetent and management doesn't care. The only one who will suffer is you and your pet. I came here after my cat tragically passed away back in September 2025 and needed an emergency vet, and I can confidently say you should only go to this vet practice if it's a true emergency. 1. I called ahead and told them it was an emergency situation, I walked in and told the receptionist immediately I was here in connection to the call with an unresponsive cat. There was no urgency on the receptionist's end at all and I had to repeat that my cat wasn't breathing before she made any attempt to contact a vet. To be clear the waiting room was empty as it was during business hours on a workday. 2. Most egregiously, I requested an autopsy which was not done. I wanted answers as to how my cat passed away suddenly without any conditions at her last checkup, and I wanted to make sure it's not anything that could affect my others cat. They did not do an autopsy at all when I followed up on this issue, leaving me forever wondering what happened. I did take my other cat to her regular vet who did a great checkup, but I am incredibly disheartened that my request was ignored by BluePearl and I will never get answers. 3. This is obviously less serious, but when they placed me in the bereavement room there was no indication that I had to notify staff when I was ready to leave. I was under the impression I had to wait for a staff member to be ready to collect my baby, so I sat around for longer than I'd like, when I was already grieving and wanted to go back home to check on my other cat (again, having no answers on what took my baby) 4. The only thing they seemed to do with any clarity or urgency was try to upsell me on cremation packages, literally sticking a laminated sheet of their packages in my face as i'm holding my dead cat and sobbing. The reviews of this place calling it pricey and concerned with fleecing you for all you're worth are right. I'm honestly shocked they neglected to perform my requested autopsy as they missed another chance to overcharge me. Losing a cat is a deeply sad experience, and my baby was sadly gone before I even got to BluePearl. Nonetheless, even after this time, I am left with a pit in my stomach about how BluePearl handled this visit. Buyer beware. Do not bring your pet here unless you have literally no other option besides your pet dying. Not because of the level of care (which seemed fine, but not extraordinary), but because their billing department's only concern is milking you for everything you are worth. My cat had a urinary blockage, and unfortunately it occurred late at night when my regular vet was closed. I was told I could not wait to see my regular vet the following day without risking serious risk to my cat, and that the minimum cost of treatment was $3400 and max estimate was $3887 for 48 hours of care. I was not informed of an alternative shorter window of care, nor was I told I had options to transfer my cat to my vet the next day. Note, they make you sign this paperwork before they will even treat your cat, even if its an emergent situation from what I observed. After ~35 hours in their care, and I asked for an update, they sent me a quote of ~$1000 for my cat to stay an extra 12 hrs in their care. At this point I contacted my vet and asked to transfer him to her. She sent me a quote with a range of $660 - $800 for an additional 24 - 48 hours of care. Obviously, I made the only sane decision to transfer my pet's care to someone who was not actively trying to rob me blind for comparable care. My cat was transferred out of BluePearl's care well before the end of the 48 hours period that I had been quoted. Onsite, I signed a final bill for ~$3400 (low end of the range). Shortly after I left and my cat was safely handed off to my vet and out of their clutches, they sent me an email and a text message declaring they had made a mistake in billing, and I actually owed a lot more money (~$500), and they were charging my card for it - without my signature, without my authorization, after I had already left and my cat was no longer in their care. I called and spoke with Ricardo Delarosa in their billing department (after being misdirected twice on the phone). He told me that: 1) it didn't matter that it was their billing error, 2) it didn't matter that no one communicated to me that there might be higher miscellaneous charges than what was on my original estimate, 3) that it didn't matter that I hadn't pre-approved the doctors giving my cat injectible medications (that are more expensive than oral medications for which there are comparable alternatives) that weren't on my original estimate, and 4) finally that it didn't matter that my cat didn't stay the entire window I paid for since they charge only in 12-hr increments. Heaven forbid the person who has their pet onsite for 12 hrs and 1 minute. He did however confirm that the only thing that mattered to BluePearl billing was charging me this, that there was absolutely nothing he could do for me, that they were completely justified as the cost was "within the estimate range" aka it was literally $3 under the max estimated cost - despite my pet not being onsite for even close to the full window of time. All I can say is their billing is shadier than the darkest corners of wall street. BEWARE AND AVOID IF YOU POSSIBLY CAN!! read more

What should have been a peaceful and compassionate goodbye turned into one of the most upsetting and traumatic experiences I've ever had at a veterinary clinic. Before arriving, my wife called twice to confirm the cost of euthanasia and cremation. We were given clear prices. But when we arrived, those costs had mysteriously doubled with no explanation. This kind of bait-and-switch during such an emotional time is completely unacceptable. Worse still was the lack of professionalism and compassion we encountered. An unqualified vet tech--likely earning barely above minimum wage--was tasked with inserting a catheter. She clearly didn't know what she was doing, and botched the job, leaving my terrified dog in pain and distress in his final moments. I approached the front desk twice, pleading for help or to speak with someone in charge. The office manager was sitting just a few feet away, but she refused to come out or speak with me directly. Instead, she communicated with the receptionist via phone--avoiding any eye contact or basic human decency. This clinic failed us in every way--medically, emotionally, and ethically. this is not the way to assist your dear pet through their passing. while the staff was kind, the proceedure is awful and traumatizing. most animals are ready to go when an owner takes them to be put to sleep. if you are like me, i had been holding her and loving her all day before she took a serious turn for the worse. they do not need to separate the pet from the owner. sedation should be used first without an iv. then an iv can easily be inserted and the other medications given, all while in the arms of the owner. there is no need for an oxygen mask, cone on her head, being held down by people she didn't know, and jabbing at her arm trying to find a vein in a dehydrated cat who had not been eating or drinking for 48 hours. i should have left when they wanted to take her from me for a few minutes. please ask wherever you go, for their procedure. if you don't want to be present, fine, it wont matter, but if you do, dont allow anyone to take your pet from you at this time. you will thank yourself later. there are other options at other places. read more

Sorry, this is a long one. I brought my 21 1/2 year old cat in here because she wasn't doing well. In the 21+ years that I've had my baby girl I've never had such a lovely experience with a vet/hospital. First off John at the front desk went over and above the night before when I called. Giving me any information he could on home care if needed. He then asked the vet her opinion on my cats symptoms and unlike most places didn't just say "bring her in". She gave me a list of things to look out for that would then mean I should bring her in, in which case I did the next day. The day I came in the first thing I noticed is it felt light, friendly and organized. Everyone at the front desk was beyond kind and warm. They took her right away and had me wait in a little room. Offered me water and asked if they could bring me a snack. The Vet, who besides being very sweet was also a professional and I could tell she knows what she's doing. I totally trusted her. After examining her she gave me what I deep down already knew, that my cat was most likely close to the end. She was very clear and compassionate and encouraged me to give it the weekend with meds and maybe she'd be ok! But in case not she was comforting in the way she spoke about the decision I may need to make. In a situation like this, I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to be around me. I also must mention that the bill for the emergency visit plus 2 medications was 1/3 of what a basic check up was at VCA with a less attentive and kind hearted staff. Thank you. When I first arrived at Blue Pearl (on the recommendation of my vet, who does not do surgeries), I was turned over to Dr. Marc Greenberg, who diagnosed a mass on her adrenal gland and suggested that the surgery would be an easy one. She bled out on the table, but Blue Pearl -- always anxious for extra bucks -- transferred her body to ICU; when I rushed in to see her, she was just a mass of tubes and bandages. This place has unexperienced animal doctors, office has terrible customer service and managers are very rude and unhelpful. My Boxer was attacked by a pitbull in her chest area, the pitbull ripped through her chest awfully bad and Rumor was in bad shape after the incident. Since my vet office was not open on that Sunday, I had to rush her to the closest ER to get her medical attention, which was BluePearl emergency Pet clinic. What a mistake and awful experience! The BluePearl emergency pet clinic did not give Rumor the proper care that she required initially. Because of the chest area my dog was attacked on, she needed stitches that required double or triple sutras to make sure she was mended well. The doctor at Bluepearl applied the stitches on the surface of the skin and the stitches did not close up her gash securely and were applied poorly. My poor dog was super uncomfortable, in pain when I brought her back home. She was not given the proper pain medicine for her at the moment and her chest was visibly swollen. The stitches opened back up by day 2. I tried to call Bluepearl to let them know what was going on and the customer service reps were not interested in guiding me and did not allow me to speak with the vet that attended rumor, they were rude, unhelpful, showed no concern that their doctor did not stitch her up properly. The managers were rude and dismissive of the issue I tried to talk to them about, they did not care to help with my concerns. I had to bring Rumor back to be examined by her regular doctors "The PetDoctors". Once her regular vet examine and cared for Rumor, she was noticeably was feeling better the same day when I brought her home, no pain and her wound area was stitch up tightly. By day 6 Rumor was back on her paws looking and feeling extremely better because of the care provided by the PetDoctors. Do not understand why this wasn't done at Bluepearl. I would never go back to Bluepearl again, nor would I tell anyone about this place. Bluepearl veterinarians do not care about their customers and only care take your money to charge you an arm and a leg, rather then take caring of your pet first. read more

The staff at this location are genuinely caring and dedicated to their job. I took my kitten named Mittens to this location at around 1 in the morning due to labored breathing. When we got there, Mittens was immediately rushed downstairs for evaluation while another employee provided me with the proper documents I needed to sign. At the end of the visit, the veterinarian Katherine explained to me what was wrong and how I can fix it. Then we went over costs, now I'm a single mom of two and I really couldn't afford too much upfront, however they were able to work with me and also provide me with some additional care items for Mittens. This is my first time being at a vet in my entire 29 years of living and I was literally so scared because I didn't know what to expect but the staff were really calm, knew what they were doing and how to address everything within my visit. They milk you thousands everyday to keep your animal under treatment. Each day saying this is all they will need. I hope enough people become aware of their horrible scam practices. 48 hours of hospital care and I have now spent over $12,000. They tried to keep him another day for an additional $6000. We are incredibly lucky to have such knowledgeable and caring care available to us. Had some questions about a friend's dog who was having some digestive difficulties and wasn't sure if it was possible it was serious enough to call her in the middle of the night to bring him in for emergency care or if I needed to stay up all night keeping vigil. Luckily for me, I got James who is an absolute gem of a human being and he explained everything calmly , respectfully as well as extremely thoroughly and thoughtfully. And repeated it again when I asked:) You can tell he really cares and is happy to educate and support with warm professionalism. I can't speak highly enough of his experience, expertise and demeanor. This is exactly the kind of person you'd want to entrust your beloved fur baby with.. he is capable, calm and far better than any doctor google would be:). Everything is fine and I'm so relieved that he was available to help reassure me as well as let me know what to be concerned about if it ever happened in the future. A lot of bad reviews about the costs here. Let's just be clear, caring for your beloved animal will cost you money no matter where you go. That's just the unfortunate fact. Blue Pearl is no different since my pets have had surgery in different vet hospitals and clinics. One thing I don't like is how my dog needs to be re-examined by different doctors , paying for the consultant services twice in the same clinic. Shouldn't we just be charged once? Both my dogs Myles and Tessa has come to Blue Pearl for medical treatment. Unfortunately, Myles passed away last year due to his condition and Blue Pearl took care of him the best they could. Recently, our other dog Tessa had a cancerous mass removed from her liver. The costs were crazy and basically wiped out any annual limit from our deductible but Dr. Greenberg saved her life and that's what's most important. There were complications of the surgery but that's because the liver is so porous that it can bleed easily. However, Dr. Greenberg was able to evaluate and make the best medical decision he can and address the issue with success. read more

It took me a while to write this review to make sure that I wasn't just upset that my little beautiful chihuahua passed away. I connected with many vets after this to get their thoughts as well, and they all agreed that our chihuahua was mistreated and failed by the oncologist here. Our dearest Peppa went to see Dr. Farrelly in June, as a neurologist diagnosed her with an incurable brain tumor. She was expected to live 3 months without radiation and 6 months to a year and a half with radiation. Looking back, I know that we should have just let her live out her life without intervention as the neurologist suggested. When we met with Dr. Farrelly, he was very optimistic and knowledgeable. We agreed to pay over $20,000 for 20 radiation treatments. Once the radiation treatments were over, it seemed so was our support from Dr. Farrelly. Anytime we needed advice or to ask if something Peppa was experiencing was common, he would take days to get back and seem very unsure. One day, he happened to call when I really needed him, as Peppa was having trouble breathing and heavily panting. He told me it was most likely a headache and to give her gabapentin. After about an hour, I no longer trusted his opinion and rushed her to the Blue Pearl in Brooklyn, where she stopped breathing in the elevator. She started breathing again in the oxygen tank, and we were told she was in congestive heart failure, and it was most likely caused by the high dose of predisone she was put on by Dr. Farrelly. Dr. Farrelly was fully aware of Peppas' heart condition prior to the radiation, and her cardiologist works in the same facility. He also saw her breathing heavily and was asked about the sounds her lungs were making when he saw her during treatment. We spent about $10,000 to treat her heart failure. When I spoke with him next, I did not even get an apology for the advice he had given to me that day when she was dying. After two weeks, she went blind. I asked for his advice again since he was the specialist. He said he isn't sure why she would go blind. Meanwhile, we found out this was due to her brain tumor spreading and that it was very common. We had to put her to sleep a week later. Please beware that this oncologist is too busy to pay attention to your pet. I would recommend going somewhere else for your pets care. If Dr. Farrelly would have paid more attention to our pet, we would have saved $10,000 and the agony caused by the steroid throwing her into heart failure. read more

Took my cat to my vet because of labored breathing, and she immediately sent me to Blue Pearl Midtown, because apparently the one on 15th St. does not to overnight monitoring. The Uber ride seemed endless, but once there, i could not have wished for better service. They not only removed the fluid from my cat's lungs, but were able to do other tests immediately. I honestly thought it was the end for him that day, but quick and good care allowed him to come home with me that evening. Dr. Grant Gilbert and nurse Eric were above and beyond wonderful, both professionally and personally - the entire staff was excellent. No vet care is cheap, of course, and emergency vet care always seems to run into the thousands. My own vet said it would be between $6K and $8K for treatment and overnight monitoring, and i'm fortunate to be able to manage that. And happier to say I was not encouraged to get treatments my cat really didn't need; i was able to take him home and monitor him myself, and my entire bill was well under $3K. i have had less good experiences at the 15th St Blue Pearl, but that was many years ago. I hope they now have care on a par with the Midtown location. read more

I have been to Blue Pearl with a couple of different cats and have had some mixed experiences, but I am giving five stars for my most recent trip there last Saturday. My 14 year old cat was in diabetic ketoacidosis. We arrived after 11 PM. It was quiet and I got to see the vet Dr Davis right away. She did an assessment of Jolie and came up to give me the news that my little kitty was very sick. I knew this already... each day had brought me closer to letting go. I made my decision to have her put to sleep there based on the fact that she would have had to stay there three or four days with poor prognosis. The staff was so caring and patient with me while I thought things through and asked a lot of questions before making my decision. They took me to a beautiful little room with dim lighting and candles and a sofa. They brought her in to me in a soft cushion so I could hold her and take my time alone with her. Dr Davis was so sweet and gentle and it was probably the least traumatic pet euthanasia I ever experienced. Not inexpensive, but so worth it. Having a pet put to sleep at home is usually my preferred choice, but since we were there already, it was absolutely the right decision. I'm really grateful to Blue Pearl for the care they take with pets and their families in this difficult parting moment. read more

Dr Farrelly is an oncologist and he is extremely fantastic. He was very professional and realistic about a pretty dire situation with my dogs lung cancer and he helped guide us to the proper decision. Speaking of, Dr Greenberg is a surgeon and he did great. We went in thinking there was a chance our dog wouldn't wake up again, and they called me immediately after the successful surgery. These two literally saved my dogs life and bought us a couple extra months with him before his death. Dr Farrelly especially was great. He answered all of our questions professionally and honestly. I hope to god I never have to meet either of these guys again, but if I do, I would trust them implicitly and I know that I'm in good hands. read more

I'd like to start off by saying I'm a small business owner and I would never roast another business or post a bad review like this. But I couldn't resist posting this because Blue Pearl and Dr. Ganus are just that awful and pet owners need to know to not go here. I'm beating myself up for taking my dog here and if I could have one wish in the world it would be to rewind that night and go anywhere else. So if I could prevent you from doing the same I know I'll be helping somebody. On Sunday night our dog started having a hard time breathing so we brought her into Blue Pearl. We walked in and told one of the receptionists what was going on and he came around the desk and asked to see her. So we took her out of her carrier and showed him and he took her downstairs. Another receptionist showed my husband and I into a room. We sat in the room and waited... and waited... Finally after 1.5 hours I went to the receptionist desk and asked what was going on? Was she ok?? Were they giving her oxygen, was she stable, what was happening downstairs? They said a doctor would be talking to us shortly. Next thing that happens is my husband gets a phone call from the doctor, he was calling from downstairs. The doctor couldn't be bothered to walk up the stairs to tell us how our dog is that we brought in gasping for air two hours ago. That speaks volumes about the heart of this place and the people caring for your pet. He starts telling us 'he seems fine, his oxygen is good'... I stopped him right there and said 'our dog is a female, are you talking about the correct dog??' He says 'oh yes, excuse me. She seems good, my nurses are playing with her now, we didn't need to treat her for anything.' Huh He said they took four X-rays and they all looked good. Doesn't the doctor normally come into the room with you and show you the X-ray results or bring your dog up to you? We kept questioning how 'she was good?' when she is literally gasping for air. We kept asking what was wrong then, what's his diagnosis? He had no answer. He actually asked us what we wanted to do. He said 'do you want me to give her pain meds?' It was unbelievable. Then the receptionist says you can pay and check out now and we'll have someone bring your dog up- it'll be $900. We're in disbelief at this point. We never saw a doctor or a nurse or anyone!! Literally, it was my husband and I sitting in an exam room by ourselves for hours. This receptionist then brings our dog up to us and she's still having the hardest time breathing. She's on my husband's lap just gasping for air, it was so bad. So we get pissed and go up to the receptionist desk and demand to speak to the doctor. Guess what? The doctor never gets back on the phone and never comes up still, instead he relays through the receptionist that if we want to leave her there overnight we could. We would never leave her in this awful place under this awful care of this mystery Dr Ganus. Is he serious? So we bring her home and stayed awake with her all night long trying to keep her calm while struggling to breathe. We just couldn't wait until morning to get her in with our regular vet. I can't even type what happened next because it's too soon and too raw for me to even say it out loud. But you can imagine. It was the worst case scenario. So this no face, piece of crap Dr Ganus clearly didn't diagnose her appropriately or maybe even at all. I'm sitting here wondering if he ever even saw her. He should feel so ashamed of himself and his work ethic. Dr Ganus you are irresponsible and heartless. I imagine Blue Pearl will be out of business one day in the near future because there are hundreds of other ER vets in NYC that would never operate like this. read more

Our dog was choking and we rushed her to this business for assistance as they advertise themselves being a 24 hour operation. As we entered the from doors and requested assistance, the individual at the front desk stood up and stated, "We are at capacity. I have no one to help you. Please leave. " as my dog took her last breath in my arms, she directed us to go to The East 60's to get help. With my lifeless dog in my arms, my partner and I walk the half block home sobbing along the way. If you have another option for emergency car for your pet, I just you take it. I have asked my veterinarian not to recommend this business again until they are able to provide the kind of services they advertise. read more

Re: Dr. JILL ABRAHAM, Midtown If you are looking for a Veterinary Dermatologist I highly recommend Dr. Jill Abraham! She was a life saver for my 14 year old cat Mittens. Mittens was scratching herself raw & bleeding. I had tried everything, all the usual Vet remedies, natural supplements & homeopathy, NOTHING worked! My regular Vet concurred it was time to see a Dermatologist. Dr. Abraham found the right medicine for Mittens which happened to be a dog medicine but it worked! Mittens was able to go through her days & nights again without itching like crazy! Dr. Abraham is not only highly skilled she is also very compassionate. I can't say enough good about her. read more
