One of the best bars in Brooklyn and probably the entire city. Definitely a "Cheers" type of place where everyone knows each other and has a great welcoming vibe. Extremely laid back and casual compared with NYC "gentleman clubs" and a lot more fun than going to a typical "dive bar". The drink prices are good and the bartenders are nice and extremely attentive. However, like many people have said on here before, be prepared to tip, you are at a strip club after all! There is nothing wrong with the girls expecting a dollar or two for their stage sets after dancing their hearts out. They are all very appreciative for just a dollar. All the girls are gems and have great friendly personalities, I have not encountered a bad one yet. If you bring cash and do the bare minimum of tipping girls who spend their time with you, it is a fantastic experience...it is a STRIP CLUB after all. The bar itself is small, but super inviting and utilizes the space well. The drinks are similarly priced to any place you're going to find in BK. She pushed our conversation into places that were clearly making me uncomfortable, and was persistent about it. This is a RACIST place, we couldn't even get in because we were black it was 3 of us, myself and 2 other girls. They checked our IDs and we were standing waiting to get in (absolutely no line mind you) and we joked we were trying to apply to dance here but the security or whoever was just like "oh yeah we'll see about that." I literally created a Yelp account to warn people about this terrible excuse of a business. I'm visiting from out of town, so take that for what you will, I'll admit I'm not used to the way 'things are' as some defensive reviewers have mentioned. That being said, if this is your idea of a strip club, or a respectable business, I feel sorry for you. Walked in, bouncer was nice enough, patted us down, checked ID's. Then met quite possibly the most rude bartender I've ever met. My buddy ordered a beer and before he even had the opportunity, she was annoyedly asking if he would like to, "tip his bartender." He did, as he would have if she gave him the chance. We then learned of the fatal flaw of sitting at the bar. Because of how stupidly designed this establishment is, the stage is behind the bar. Which you wouldn't think was that big of a deal until (as other posters said) EVERY dancer hounds you for money when they get done dancing. Three girls demanding money from us after every song. "They don't work for free, they don't take shit!" -other yelp reviewers I agree you should tip your dancers, but if I'm not looking at you, you are not entitled to my money. These girls are extremely entitled to demanding your money whether you were watching or not, interested or not. And because of the placement of the bar there is no such thing as just sitting at the bar enjoying your drink. I've been to nice strip clubs, the girls dance (on stages that are separate from the bar) and you can CHOOSE to go to the stage when you want to tip. You have no choice in this place...of dancer, of what songs to tip after. It's a not of a bad club as I see the other reviews. The club is in a industrial warehouse-ish area so it's unique from the typical strip clubs that are on a side street a few feet away from the usually high populated areas. The cover is free. The only thing you have to go through is the typical security ID verification to make sure that you are legally allowed to go to the club, they use a machine to verify the id is not fake. There is no coat check. The security pat you down to make sure you have no weapons. There is a mandatory drink buy, just ask the bartender the cheapest drink there and they will take any type of payment such as cash and credit/debit card(with the fees). If you don't want to drink, just ask the bartender to give it to one of the dancers just make sure that you buy the drink. The dancers are beautiful. Just like any other strip club in the city, you will have your variables of the strippers. The dances are $20 for a 4 minute dance(they have a big sign telling you that next to the semi private room). The club makes you pay for the dance before you get the dance(cash or credit card). They have a change machine so you can take those $20s and turn it to 1(bartender does it). It's a narrow club. It depends on how you make it the time you go to the club. PUMPS!!!!!!! Pumps is right up there for me with Duff's. It's a place I know my friends from back home in Ohio would love - because it's dirty, trashy, and very rock n roll. It's everything yo mama told you not to do in life. And because of this, it is perfect. There is an electric sign over the bar that says, "if you ain't got no money, take your broke ass home," or something like that. Drinks ARE too expensive, but then it's a bar with strippers, so what do you expect. None of the strippers are particularly hot, either, which only adds to the charm of Pumps. When I was here for my cousin's birthday, one of the strippers was doing a terrible job of hiding the fact that she was about 5 or 6 months pregnant. Just sayin. No one hassles you here, which is nice, but if you sit at the bar, the strippers will shove their titties in your face and insist that you put a dollar there. I was pretty broke when we were here, so I stayed away from the bar, which is a nice option to have. My drunken birthday-boy cousin spent much time picking out the stripper he wanted to give him a lap dance... not that there was a plethora of awesomess to choose from, which made it even better... and I think that may have been his favourite birthday present. We went here this weekend for my friend's bachelorette party. I love a good strip club, and as I walked in here I realized that not only have I driven past it many times, but also it's the FIRST strip club I've ever been to in NYC! I don't know, somehow I expected that a NYC strip club would either be more expensive or less welcoming than in other towns. Pumps proved me wrong on both counts! First off, there's a small parking lot which was much appreciated. Second, our group of mostly queer women didn't get a single weird look or annoying comment as we walked in. Third, no cover charge on a Saturday night! The place is small, but wasn't too crowded, and the strippers dance right behind the bar so it's a convenient two-for-one experience to sit at the bar. My girlfriend told me before we went that this is the kind of place with "busted" strippers who have "c-section scars" and such. Wrong! These were mostly hot women with diverse body types and, yes, the occasional scar. My favorite was that one of them was visibly pregnant and still hanging upside-down on the pole. We bought our friend a lap dance where the stripper had to remind her to breathe because she was so petrified/delighted. It was very sweet. I'm told I'm not supposed to feel special that several of the girls flirted with me and touched me. I guess it's true that they walked away once I said I didn't want a lap dance. You can write extensively about strip club etiquette, but this review is to help other customers understand the culture of this locale. I've been to many strip clubs and titty bars, from New York to New Orleans to Houston to Portland (all the fabulous strip club capitals). In my experience, this place simply not any fun at all. I found it boring, trite and after a while, bothersome and uncomfortable. I just wanna chill, not be interrupted every five minutes by an aggressive girl. This was most similar to my experience at Magic Garden in Portland, except there you can sit at the bar, enjoy great tunes and microbrews on draft. You can sit at the stage if you want, and pay a dollar (or more) per song as usual. You don't really have an option here, and there's like half a dozen girls around demanding tips even as you are just sipping your beer. Maybe this place is so small it's awkward. The drinks weren't as pricey as we had expected or had read. Some of the women were okay. Most were just average like women you'd see in your neighborhood. We had a pretty good time because a) we had no expectations, b) there was a pretty fun group of women that we socialized with that were sitting next to us and we enjoy people watching, c) we didn't sit at the bar. It's absurd to think that just by being here we should reward you with money. We've seen breasts and the rest of a woman's body before. So could you maybe give us a reason to want to tip you other than asking for it? They would do better by asking for dances. It's less of a weird feeling to refuse a dance and maybe if they asked enough you would finally give in based on their personality. Just some advice from a guy that's gone to a strip club or two in my day. We gave her some lame excuse about needing ATM money and she walked away pissed off. At that moment we decided it best to take a table away from the bar so as to survey the place. No one bothered us after that. Women came by, smiled and a few even stopped to chat. So rather than sit at the bar and witness firsthand women shoving their breasts in our faces and demand we tip them we moved out of firing range. Over all, if you go with good company, no or low expectations, take your own cash, as I hear the ATM is an arm and a leg, you should have a good time. Again, the drinks weren't bad. What a legitimate waste of a space for a strip club. I decided to pop in a Monday night because Brooklyn doesn't have too many good, legitimate strip clubs. I figured Monday night it would be nice and slow and I would go and throw it up, throw it up, throw it up some more and just ball out and have a good time. Perfect way end to a Monday-Funday night. Could have I picked a more worse spot to come to? The place was virtually empty and the women inside were not even that attractive at all. I know it's a Monday night but still give me some incentive to come back over the weekend. Rather than hastily leaving, I gave Pumps the benefit of the doubt and sat down to have a drink, got some singles and was just relaxing and reluctantly tipping some women here and there. I'm a supporter of working women but these women were barely working anything at all.
