Convenient parking for getting your relatives out of the baggage claim area and into the car. Just walk out, cross the street, and you are there. When I dropped off my sister, I asked for and was given a pass to keep her company while she waited for the plane. If you want a pass to go to the gate when they arrive, no can do. This airport seems to stack its takeoffs and landings at certain times. All five gates were busy, and there was hardly any room to sit while waiting for them to start loading the plane. Came across this airport when booking with allegiant airlines and let me tell you it was pretty easy breezy. There are only like three gates and one coffee shop. Everyone relax, there is a bar :-) Pro tip: I wouldn't come here to lounge or relax too much since you'd have a lot of waiting around to do with nothing really to look at besides maybe your laptop. The fun part is you can take a cocktail to your gate and drink it there, why not right? With a hip implant I have to go through the large full body scanner. It will alarm if you have a hip implant. I told them that's why I have to go through. It showed where the metal was in my body and I was still subject to basically a sexual assault full groping fingers in my vagina and asshole. Absolutely uncalled for when someone has a hip implant which is a common item. Yes I alarmed. I told you it was a new implant. The sexual assault was so aggressive it was painful to my new hip implant and I basically was in tears afterwards. They did offer private screening but had I known how aggressive and painful and the amount of insertion into my vagina and ass it was going to be, I would definitely request private screening. I don't want to be touched. As a sexual assault victim it is traumatizing. I would rather remove all clothing and not be touched than endure your fingers up my vagina and asshole. The squeezing on my thigh and hip with a recent surgery was painful and the entire experience was absolutely ridiculous. Figure it out. If someone had an implant and lets you know, you should not be subjected to a sexual assault when flying. I cannot call it anything other than that. This was NOT a pat down. These were strong probing fingers into private areas because of a medical implant and was beyond necessary. Do better. I will be traumatized for weeks from this. read more

This small regional Florida airport provides non-stop flights to 50 destinations via Allegiant Air at a more reasonable cost than other airlines. It is a popular airport for those reasons. It is located between Sarasota and Ft. Myers off I-75 in Punta Gorda. They have 1 terminal with 6 gates. You have to walk on the tarmac to board the plane. If it rains, you will get wet. The only reason I was there was to drop off a friend who needed to get to Orlando quickly for a family emergency from Sarasota. It was dark, and we were in a rush. I doubt that we would ever use this airport in our travels because we need an international airport normally for our travels. For a short flight around Florida, it could be very useful, though. read more

I had an egg sandwich at the one & only restaurant which was a complete waste of $$, also got a coffee which was horribly watered down, outside that , when time to board they call what zone you're in, you walk outside & board like you're in the 1950's. Worst airport experience. We arrived 2 hours and 15 minutes prior to departure. The line was down the hallway. Passengers whose planes were due to depart, were called out of line so they could be moved through so they wouldn't miss the flight. As we approached the front of the line, passengers for our flight were then called out of line to be moved through and we ended up at the back of that line. It was so unorganized. Please fly out of fort Myers if at all possible. The lady working on 6/6 for the allegiant checking line was horrendous and was so rude that it had my 11 year old in tears. I don't know how else to describe her except that she's a pale red headed long haired woman with foundation that doesn't match her skin. She should really consider a job that doesn't rely on someone being a decent human being in customer service. I will never fly allegiant or fly out of Punta gorda ever again and that's a shame because we are in and out of the area a lot of times per year with our kids to visit my parents and vice versa. I had never experienced an airport like this before, but it was quick and painless. They are strict about you checking your bags two hours or less before takeoff. After checking our bags though, everything went smoothly. Security can take a bit if they have only one desk open. Those with TSA Pre-check can skip the line, which delays the main line. They have a "snack bar" outside the gates which has drink and snack vending machines. There is a convenience shop and bar inside the gates. The first hour of parking is free. It's a dollar for every hour after that. You do walk outside on the tarmac to board the plane. As mentioned by another Yelper, nothing is covered. Thankfully, we had a nice day or we would've been delayed even further. read more

I love me a super simple and small airport (I'll acknowledge that they can have many drawbacks- especially if shit hits the fan with your flight). The ease of a simple ground transportation pickup at arrivals, exiting your plane and being so close to the parking lot, family restrooms and a borrow a book program are just a few of the reasons I appreciate this small regional airport. It's also hard to beat direct flights to Indy. For those who check luggage, this process is also super efficient given how few flights are flying through the airport. Air travel has changed since 9/11 and in 2020. Depending on why I'm traveling or where I'm traveling to will determine what I find value in. If I'm traveling by myself, all I need is simplicity and won't need much from an airport. If you are flying to the Greater Tampa or Ft Myers area which includes St. Pete, Bradenton and Sarasota, flying in and out of Punta Gorda is a great option based on your carrier of course. Those looking for budget carriers then PGD and Sarasota airports will be those. Just get me where I need to go and do so with perhaps limited benefits but with efficiency. Traveling in and out of Tampa airport you need to arrive 1-2 hours before departure at the minimum just to get through security. PGD, I have been able to get through security between 5-15 minutes on average and the last time there wasn't anyone in line. Limited options for food but again, if you are looking at a brief wait for security, you don't need to sit around the airport but rather spend your valuable time at the pool, beach or wherever other than the airport. Navigating in and out via car is easy enough. read more

Only two airlines fly into this airport, which are Allegiant and Sun Country. Their schedules are limited, and may only fly to destinations 2 to 3 times a week. you board the airplane outside on the ramp and go upstairs to board the airplane. The staff were very friendly and there are two stores to choose from to find some food. Overall great little airport and highly recommend using! read more

Well-run and very clean regional airport just 25 minutes to Fort Myers and Punta Gorda . According to TSA, they were managing 1800 passengers and less than two hours. (Efficiently an with smiles on their faces). As a frequent traveler, I recommend the Punta Gorda airport and allegiant if you are on a budget. Allegiant is the only airline that flies in and out of this airport. I'm not a big fan of them since I've had 4 trips so far and they speak to customers abruptly. Flights are ok but they nickel and dime you for everything. You have to order and pay for snacks on the app before boarding. We were unfortunate enough to get the same Allegiant crew flying in and out of Punta Gorda Airport and they were aggressive and harsh when communicating with passengers, especially the short, older, female flight attendant. TSA precheck means nothing here. I had to remove belt, watch, other jewelry, and two different employees complained very loudly that I still had on shoes. All while I'm holding the card they gave me stating I didn't have to remove shoes. You will walk outside to the tarmac in order to board the plane and get off too. There are no ramps to protect you from the weather here. It's pretty obNo one here likes their job much. I would rather drive to Ft. Myers and fly Southwest. read more

Punta Gorda Airport is the worst airport we frequent, and we wouldn't fly into or out of that airport at all were it not for the convenient location to our Florida house. The worst part about this airport are the ticket agents. They are absolutely stringent about their little rules -- and woefully inconsistent! They love throwing out their little "only one personal item" when you have a purse the size of playing card and say a backpack. They also just make up rules. For example, they told my husband, an Air Force veteran who served over 26 years, that our 4-year-old have to have an ID in order to have the free bag check. Yes, that's right, an ID for a four-year-old. He explained to the know-it-all agent that military children can't get IDs until age 10 unless they are flying overseas. But, in spite of that, we had to pay $75 for a bag, take that bag through security, only to have them remove & throw away our brand-new $40 sea salt body scrub. Every agent there seems to just be looking for an excuse to charge you money. I would highly recommend flying elsewhere in Florida if you can. read more

God forbid there is a storm (which happens often in Florida). They will not board or exit any aircraft when there is lightning. There is no covered exit ramps, so be aware, you are gambling on what time you need to leave/arrive. Alligent should have purchased a few covered exit/boarding ramps before spending $300 million on a new VIP Florida resort. read more
