Can't rate it cause I would do less than zero and they don't allow it. So was forced to put 1 star. But it's negative 3 stars. The worst major air carrier in the us and possibly the world! I've never been treated so bad. Had so many delays. Flights that left hours after us made it to the same destination before we did. We were not a priority. We can start by the fact that they had a broken door for 2 days and thought it would be fixed as flight attendants stated the dangers of it. Should have just been a new plane and that should have been fully fixed. The pilot even stated that he almost said no but they assured him it would be functioning. Major blunder on American Airlines. Flight scheduled to leave at 7:37 am. And didn't leave till after 12 pm. All while knowing and didn't inform anyone prior to their arrival. They forced us to spend money in their airports and be the cheap airliner you would expect that changed you for a carry on. But no, this is "AMERICAN". Such a joke. They gave a $12 voucher for food at the airport "only in Miami" and good for only one day. and no alcohol. So what does that do? Makes us spend more money cause we are starving due to their negligence. So they pushed more money out of us all the while making us delayed for other flights, family obligations, jobs and work, etc. with zero care for their client. This is just today. You will be seeing the other negligence in making us wait on a tarmac for 3 hours with no ac on the next review. This company is bad and isn't trying to be better. Went up to the gate counter. Carmen ignored me for 5 minutes. I stood there waiting for her to say something. She then says "do you have a question?" In such a rude way. I said yes I would like to switch my connecting flight seat. She then said "why?" I told her I would prefer not to be in a middle seat. To that she responds "no." Me being very confused why she was unwilling to help asks "I thought gate agents can help switch seats" she said nope. You can ask at your connecting airport. I call AA the bait and switch airline. It seems like everytime I find a good flight at a good price they change the flight times and I don't like the new times as well as the old. BUT, the Ole bait and switch worked in my favor this time. I booked a flight from Sacramento to Fort Myers eight months in advance for $480. It was the cheapest ticket, nonrefundable. My girlfriend decided she wanted to go but her ticket , five months out, would be $1,000. We could both fly Southwest for $460 each. I checked on the original $480 ticket and the flight times had just changed and AA gave me a full refund when I canceled the nonrefundable ticket! The flight time changes did not exceed the minimum changes that would of triggered a refund on a regular ticket either. Cool and kudos to AA! We are now flying SWA! read more

28 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE TOLD ME NEVER TO FLY AMERICAN AIR..I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED.I should have followed my gut and never have flown on American Airlines. I say that not just because of the incident I will describe below, but rather based on the observations I had over a 28 year career as a Customs and Border Protection Officer at JFK Airport. During that 28 year period I had the opportunity to observe thousands of arriving international flights, including well over a thousand American Air flights. American always had the worst customer service of any of the major airlines.  Arriving passengers were lucky if there was one American Air representative to help them if their bags had not arrived or if they had missed a connecting flight. Passengers arriving as visitors in a foreign country who were confused about where to go had to figure it out on their own.I and my colleagues often watched people who had just come off American Air international flights of 8, 9, 10 hours or more have to wait over an hour to speak with the one AA representative who happened to be meeting the flight. I promised myself I would never fly American if I could avoid it. Unfortunately, I foolishly broke that promise and now suffer the results. Don't make the same mistake!  Dealing with American Airlines is a nightmare more frightening than a Freddie Kruger movie. American Airlines lost (they like to say "mishandled") two of my three pieces of luggage on my way back to Fort Myers from Seattle, via Dallas Fort Worth. My American Air produced nightmare began when my wife and I arrived in Fort Myers only to discover just one of our three checked pieces of luggage had arrived with our flight. An omen of what would follow would be our initial interaction with the American Airline representative on site who alternated between dazed and confused in trying to complete the missing baggage claim. Fortunately a supervisor from the company that handles baggage for the airport was present (she is not even an AA employee) and with her help the claim was completed. It was at this time that we learned that while they were able to track one bag, the bag tag for the other piece of our luggage that had not arrived had for some unknown reason been deleted from the system and therefore it would be hard to find.  In the days that followed we did receive one of those two missing bags. The other bag with the strangely deleted baggage tag? First, we received a phone call from an AA agent telling us it had been located and was in transit to us. We then received another phone call asking us to describe some of the contents to verify that the bag was ours. I guess they were satisfied because American Air continued to assure us the bag was on its way. The morning of the day we were supposed to receive that final missing bag we received an email from American Airlines advising us that they had made a mistake and had not located the bag. Oops! Sorry for the miscommunication they wrote, we don't know where your bag is. As the infomercial used to go....But wait! There's more! That same day, after being told they did not have the bag (after being advised twice it was on its way to us) I received a phone call from the company that American uses to return delayed bags saying that their driver was 15 minutes away with our missing bag. When that driver arrived, he had a garment bag that had a printout from American attached to it with my name and address. Unfortunately, it was not our bag, nor did it even have any resemblance of the bag I had described to the three American Airlines baggage reps I had spoken to prior to this. The amazing thing is that the delivery guy would have been perfectly fine with handing over someone else's lost luggage to me if I had just signed on the dotted line confirming delivery. Here is a case, I thought, where American not only loses someone else's  bag and  doesn't return it to him but tries to give it to someone else.I doubt I will ever see that piece of luggage whose baggage tag was mysteriously deleted.  Post script....Those two bags we did receive....American Air broke the wheels on both suitcases! read more

I am not surprised to see the low rating! The American Airlines employees at this airport need more training and just your regular kindness. Before our trip to Florida, Fort Myers area, my husband and I discussed to be very nice and kind to all airports and Airlines employees since we felt sorry they had to put up with horrible behavior from passengers. Our experience wasn't stellar during our trip. On the way there we ran to make it to our connection. On the way back, due to the weather we had to change our flights and stay longer for 2 more days. When we got to airport for our return flight, we started to get messages that our flight is delayed. Upon checking we were told we'd make our connection. But the flight kept getting delayed (due to catering issues, what excuse is that???) till I went to see about our connection. I was told we wouldn't make it and the plane won't wait for us. No, there were other passengers, not just us who'd be missing the connection to Burbank. I don't feel like I am special, I was looking for solutions and the lady I was dealing with was yelling at me. I asked her several times to stop yelling. A colleague of hears asked her that. She had nothing for me. No other flight that day or next day. We were willing to switch to LAX. Nada. I left, it was too much. After a cooling off period for me, we approached the other lady, with my husband along. Once again, we had to ask her several times to be nicer! We got our tickets changed for 2 days ahead. All she had to offer. They offered other passengers to be put up, not us! When we told us this would cost us money, she didn't care. Told me to take it up with corporate. No apology, no "I am sorry ", once! The worst staff. They inconvenience you, can't handle it. No apologies. I did filed complaints with Corporate and dealt with us. No more feeling sorry for Airlines. Since September 11 it's all downhill! No more food on the plane, crappy service, baggage fees. High price. They charge a lot and offer not a lot. Dirty planes even nowadays. Us, the consumers need to ask for better! We deserve it! read more

What a HORRIBE EXPERIENCE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE! My Sister is in Hospice in St. Louis. I boarded Flight 565 at 6:20pm headed for Charlotte on a Connection Flight. At 7:41 I was still sitting on a full flight with everyone aboard having a connection. I received a text stating I have a 8:48 AM FLIGHT FROM CHARLOTTE INTO ST. LOUIS. GET THIS: the airlines has been in business how long? And they don't know that there is inclement weather so instead they insult you by giving you less than what you paid for and to add insult to injury they pushed back as soon as we boarded to prevent the fee charged by FAA for late departure and to prevent paying out hotels to everyone aboard WHICH IS INEVITABLE we were all STOOGES TO AMERICAN AIRLINES NONSENSE. I asked numerous rides prior to departure can I cancel for tomorrow. "OH Mam, you have PLENTY OF TIME! PAID TO LIE! that's why we are where we are as a Country. Well, okay. AA got me from point A to point B (via a connection at point A.5?) without a major hassle, and I find myself flying on this carrier more than I'd like lately. But they do get the job done and they seem to get it done at a reasonable price. Hate their on-line check in, though, as it's convoluted and prompts you to pull out your wallet over and over. If you opt to not log a trip in with your FF account, seems you can't check in? Had that issue this go round, which was pretty annoying, despite the fact that I had trip locator numbers and all. Worked my way around that, but they need to work on their website interaction compatibility. Flew multiple flights with them and had no complaints - other than being treated like cattle at times. Personnel were friendly and accommodating and we did take off and land on time. Aircraft was clean, cramped and reminiscent of a meat locker, though, so don't board (like I did) wearing shorts, a tank top and sandals and think that you won't freeze your extremities off during the duration of the flight. But I did get where I wanted to go with little aggravation. Since I haven't got many other choices (read between the lines -- Continental was gobbled up by United and they cut many flights from Houston to Florida), American seems to be my carrier of choice to The Sunshine State. read more

2 things. I booked a departing flight through skip lagged which went through Skybooker with AA at the last minute and my credit card didn't go through frantically I booked another ticket on SL w UA. I arrived at the airport with two departures because they forced the 1st purchased through again. The gentleman at the American Airlines ticket counter was Incredibly rude tried to confiscate my fire arm and my ammunition would not accept my certified locked glock gun case And sent me away to go buy another gun case which was ridiculous so I went to my UA departure and they were wonderful. American had no Record of my ticket and neither skybooker or American will give me flight credit I am out $272 I'm also leaving Wells Fargo because my bank did not defend me. Not to mention my brother in law needing to return to work!! I fly AA exclusively as they are one of the few airlines out of Southwest Florida International that goes most anywhere I need to go multiple times during the day. The flights are generally on time and the flight crew typically hospitable. The only real negative I can speak of is the "Systemwide Upgrade" for preferred members perk is a little bit of a joke, but that is a whole different story for another time. On this particular flight, I was upgraded and had the benefit of my own monitor so I was able to enjoy a good movie on my 3 hour flight. Meal in first class was also served although I opted out as they only had one dish that was not vegan. Good thing I grabbed something at the airport. Overall, I am happy with American and hope to continue my relationship with them for years to come. read more

Got up at 4:30 a.m. to get to the airport for a 7a.m. flight only to arrive and learn my flight was cancelled. I understand that things happen, but I did not receive text notification of the cancellation. Now instead of a 2.5 hour non-stop trip home I have an 11 hour ordeal with possible standby connections.
