I am so glad we visited Puppy City in March 2023. Our other dog had just passed away, and we took our tween to Puppy City. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We absolutely fell in love with the Cavachon puppy, and purchased her. I can't stress how sweet and loving our Cavachon is, very healthy with no problems, no shedding and hypoallergenic. I am appalled that a puppy was sold to my elderly father, Phil Lowery, who doesn't have the ability to care it. This may actually be the final straw to contact adult protective services about him. This poor puppy will never see the outside because I know he expects it to use piddle pads only. He can barely walk and has no fenced yard. Went in with my 3 year old and asked the front lady if my daughter could pet one of the puppies or at least play with it. We picked one out and my daughter was about to reach in to pet it and she says very rudely oh no don't stick your hand in there. When we asked 2 seconds before this and she said yes. I am very particular when it comes to the health and proper confirmation of my dogs. Having just lost my boxer in his old age I decided on a Boston Terrier, down sizing you could say. I was thoroughly dismayed when I started my search in my area that no one had the proper color or confirmation that is for the Boston Terrier. I found the perfect Boston Puppy at Puppy City in Harrisonburg Va (the sister store to this one in Winchester)! I called and had several questions, the manager Connie answered everything cheerfully while also making sure I knew all the ins and outs of this particular breed. I decided on one certain puppy and Connie held it with a deposit until I could drive the 6 hours to inspect her in person. I could not be more pleased. Staff was very pleasant and helpful, the puppies and their pens were spotless and all were happy and very healthy looking. Staff went over everything with me again on her health, needs etc. I understand the concerns from some people here on where is the puppy from oh my gosh is it a puppy mill dog BUT do your homework. Know what your dog is supposed to look like and behave, go to your own personal vet for a thorough check up, something that PUPPY CITY HIGHLY RECOMMENDS! I have been in the dog world for a long long time, I have fostered for several years and I have been more horrified at back yard breeders on every corner that are only breeding for fancy colors and the rare color/looks and could care less about health and don't give a crap about where their puppy is going as long as you have the cash. That isn't every breeder just like this store isn't like every other store that sells puppies, kittens, rats, reptiles....you get the point. These people do care - FYI, if one of the staff says a puppy is too stressed out at this time to come play then suck it up. Come back another day if you are truly interested in the puppy. The staff actually cares about the well being of the puppy and not your feelings. Having just come back from the initial check from my personal vet who also gave 2 thumbs up for her health and general good looks, I couldn't be happier. I got my puppy from this store in December 2016. The service was nice, the people seemed to take care of the puppies; however, I found out today, post-purchase, that my Yorkshire Terrier comes from a HORRIFIC breeder in Millersburg, OH. All one has to do to find this out is Google search the breeder's name that appears on the AKC forms. Why would this store support keeping these horrible breeders in business? The breeder from which my beloved Yorkie came is listed on the Humane Society's "2016 Horrible Hundred" list. Additionally, the AKC certification paperwork is bogus b/c I was told by my vet today that my pup is part Jack Russell Terrier, hence his high energy (He does not have a "pause" button" and is aggressive.). His teeth are also jacked, and I just read on the Humane Society's page that the breeder was cited/fined for not keeping up with the dental care of their dogs. So, while I love all dogs, I was looking for a calm, well-adjusted, even tempered dog. I did not get that b/c the JRT breed are not known for these characteristics. I love my dog, and am at least comforted by the fact that he is in a loving home now. If you do decide to deal with this store, ask to see the paperwork first, do your due diligence, and decide for yourself if you want to keep them in business. read more

I went in yesterday specifically looking for a beagle puppy. I've owned a beagle before and did extensive research on the breed before bringing him home and during his life. Unfortunately he died a few years ago and I finally felt like my family was ready for another dog. Upon arriving yesterday I did find that they had a beagle mix for sale. I went to the desk to ask questions about the breed and was met with unenthusiastic answers. I went back to the puppy to FaceTime my husband and get his input and then hung up and talked to the puppy a little more. Not once did someone come over and greet me, see if I had any questions or if there was anything they could help me with despite there being no other customers. I finally went back to the desk after deciding that I would have my family come in to check out the puppy and asked the price of the puppy. I was expecting to pay a decent amount but when I was told $2,800 I was flabbergasted! I've never seen a beagle sold for more than $1000!! A little customer service and research would go a long way. read more

We were looking for a "Yorkie" and there he was... such a sweet puppy, born January 30th. It's always hard to see the puppies in their plexiglass "cages" but this place makes every effort to keep their areas clean, talks to the different pups, etc. The set up for the space is well constructed for staff to go up a set of steps above the cages for feeding, cleaning, etc, but can also access each one from the front. There are also sectioned areas provided for interested parties to hold the puppy of interest and give special attention, have discussions, etc. Purchases can happen different ways, either payment in full or with a credit app for payment plans. Upon leaving with your puppy, you are given a "care package" of a cage with a bag of food, a toy, two bowls, small bag of treats, etc. Additionally the purchase is treated as a contract, with info provided of vets in the area, signing up your pup for the AKC, 30 days insurance and the pup is already ID'd internally. Resource numbers are provided for additional assistance. Also provided is where the puppy came from so you are aware of who provided the care prior to the puppy being delivered to the shop. read more

Went into the Winchester puppy city with my four kiddos all excited to look for a new puppy. We carefully looked through the whole store and zeroed in all excited to see a specific puppy. When we turned to ask the lady at the front desk if we could visit with the puppy she didn't even crack a smile and just said very bluntly "no they just got dropped off and need a bath". Our smiles and excitement disappeared in an instant. Very rude tone and body language from this woman. It actually kind of freaked me out. The kids and I just hurried on out of the store. We recently purchased a puppy from Puppy City in Winchester and the morning after bringing her home we had to make an emergency vet visit. The vet advised us to return the puppy because she was extremely ill (she also said puppy mill but you don't know what you don't know until you know). She had a severe upper respiratory infection/ possible pneumonia as well as exhibiting signs of parvo. Luckily she tested negative for parvo but the vet visit was expensive and it is horrible that she was that sick and no one noticed? We can take her back but with a $500 rehoming fee!? Really? They sold us a sick puppy! This is absolutely absurd! Thanks to OUR vet she is recovering but I would not advise doing business with them. Find a breeder who will take care of their puppies and guarantee their health. read more

She went right to the little guy in the front of the store. She asked to see the puppy and she was told they could not be taken out of the cage because it stresses them out. I would not recommend purchasing a puppy from any store who refuses to let you play with an animal before purchasing. Very upsetting. However several individuals in the store "playing" with pups and no obvious intent to purchase. Won't go back!!!! read more

The puppy I bought there is beautiful and healthy now, but began vomiting on the way home from PuppyCity in Harrisonburg, and vomited continuously for 4 days, eating or drinking nothing. The Vet diagnosed gastroenteritis and said the timing of his infection was while at the store. Vet fees were $450, but the 'free 14-day pet insurance' only covered 'treatment', not diagnostics or exams - i.e., $110. So in addition to the $2000 for the puppy, I paid another $350 in uncovered vet bills. I reread the insurance contract several times, and this caveat is NOT clear at all. Additionally, beware that infections are passed while in the store, as puppies from different breeders are housed in the same crates. ALSO, with a little investigation, I realized this puppy's breeder came from one of the Amish puppy farms that I should have avoided, as they are often known to treat the breeding dogs like livestock. USDA stamp only means cleanliness standards, not good treatment. The puppies at H'burg Puppy City are indeed beautiful, but be clear about what ugliness might lie behind the purchase. My guilt about the purchase is real and long-lasting. read more

Got a precious Frenchie from Puppy City LLC in Harrionburg, VA November 27th of this year. The only medical information I was given were her shot records. I took my puppy to the vet to receive a comprehensive exam exactly 8 days after purchasing her. The vet informed me that my puppy had surgery and the surgery was done INCORRECTLY because of this her incension site is now infected and she needs to take antibiotics. I was also informed that puppy city, llc is in fact a puppy mill. The vet was surprised my puppy is as healthy as she is (minus the infection she now has due to her surgery being wrongfully done). I was not verbally made aware that my 11 week old puppy had a surgery of any sorts and there was absolutely no medical record with that information given at time of purchase. If you are in the Harrisonburg/Winchester area DO NOT purchase a puppy from here. They lack transparency and integrity. read more

I bought two boxer puppies here about 8 months ago. I wanted to breed them with my other boxer. To start off don't take the puppy's to the vet they offer for free. They get paid to tell you the dogs are fine, when really their not. When I first got my dogs their eyes seeped really bad and come to find out they weren't draining through there nose. I was told that it was genetic and couldn't be fixed. To make things worse as they've gotten older now they walk around and sleep with their tongues sticking (they have long tongue syndrome) out and their bottom jaw is longer then the top. So their bottom teeth stick out. The looked very healthy at the place, but that changed very fast. I feel so bad for them and honestly I feel like my dogs are a product of incest. I spent over 3k on these dogs that I can't even breed because all the stuff that is wrong with them is genetic. I'm not putting any more puppies through this. I'm sorry to be so honest but I really hope this helps. read more
