We've boarded our dog several times in the past year at Shenandoah Valley Boarding & Training (formerly Creature Comfort Inn), The staff is friendly and reassuring and there's lots of room for the dog to run and exercise. Our dog always seems happy to arrive and see her caretaker. Highly recommend. Would love it if they had cameras so we could just see her occasionally while we're away. read more

We LOVE training at CCI! Our rescue GSD came to us with some pretty intense leash-reactivity issues, particularly toward other dogs. Tammy is incredibly knowledgable and helpful about all things training related. She worked with us on the basics (walking in a good heel, getting the dog cued in on the handler, etc) then built up from there - by the end of the second session, our dog was calmly walking past three other dogs. We've been able to take what we've learned and apply it to our busy neighborhood. Her reactivity issues have mellowed out, and are becoming fewer and further between (and are generally much less intense). Here's our girl happy as a clam after a great training sesh (and trying to walk off with one of CCI's toys). We are SO grateful to Tammy for her time and talents! If you're looking for a great dog trainer, stop looking, because you just found the best! read more

Picked up Forbes today after returning from a trip. We've been boarding our Irish Water Spaniels at Creature Comfort Inn for about 10 years. No place is better! Dogs always have tails wagging when we drop them off and same when we pick them up. The staff is so caring and good with our kids and really attentive to our needs as well. Only thing I would change about them is to move the facility about 30 miles east so I could attend training classes. read more

The name says it all. This place is nicer than many of the hotels I've stayed in. The staff is very friendly, and immediately offered us a tour of the facility. It is very, very clean, the floors of each kennel (very spacious runs for each dog) are heated and central air-conditioning is available in the warmer months, Kuranda beds (hammock-style) come standard, and each run is equipped with a skylight for plenty of natural light. The facility is surrounded by over an acre of fenced-in land, as well as an additional 4 acre field beyond that with a huge, walking trail. Dogs are offered play and exercise in 6 fenced-in areas throughout their stay. I am not even sure our boy wanted to come home after his time there. Heck, I would like to spend a night there! read more

I left my 3 dogs with them for 10 days while traveling out of the country. All of them seemed happy to see me and well when I returned to pick them up. I was a little concerned when one of the owners (I assume) said that the older Bassett did not like him and would growl and come at him. This is definitely is not this dog's personality. He is as gentle as they come. I guess it could have been because he was stressed out, I don't know. The few days and week following pickup, I noticed all 3 dogs coughing/sneezing and all had fleas very badly (and did not prior to this). I know my three has had bordetella vaccines and flea meds so I really don't know what is going on with that. I assumed this wouldn't be an issue because your pets are required to have vaccines and be treated for fleas before staying. This might have just been a rare occurrence. With all of this said, I'm not saying it is not a good place to leave your fur baby, I'm just passing along a few facts of my experience. The staff seemed friendly and the part of the establishment you can see seems clean and we'll groomed outside. I think one thing that would make any kennel better is if you can have a tour of the actual area where your pet is being kept. Good luck and happy journey on your finding your pet sitter. read more

I'm taking my dog here several times and had decent experiences and really bad experiences. The decent ones were just that only decent or just okay. I just moved to the area and wanted to find a daycare this one looks amazing! Huge outdoor areas that look great! They have really sweet nice girls that work there and are extremely polite and welcome mean and gave me a tour of the facilities. So I felt super comfortable trying it out I was told that they take them out at least 20 minutes 4 times a day. I was a little disappointed that there was no doggie socialization where dogs play with each other but all in all it seemed like a good trade-off. But each time that I took my dog it seemed as though they had zero exercise because he was absolutely insane when I picked him up. And not a normal happy to see you kind of insane but the kind when a dog has had absolutely zero exercise. But I mention this the next time and was sure that he did in fact to get exercise he was still a little crazy but not quite as bad. Same experience the third time. On at least a couple of occasions I have had to be late because the hours are terrible. It's very difficult to get back to the facility by 6 p.m. if you work anywhere that is a stretch with traffic During rush hour for doggie daycare. They do advertise that they're willing to do after hours if you let them know without charge and I was told this was the case on my initial tour but every time I have requested to come a little later I've been scolded and several times had to pay a $50 fee. In the evenings the girls are gone and then what seems to be the owner is there and she does not like it when you are late! The older lady that seems to be the owner is incredibly rude every time I've had to deal with her but because it hasn't been that frequently I have let it slide. Today however I decided not to come back I had called ahead and was only 10 minutes late in picking up my dog and I was very very rudely spoken to and told that I would have to pay a $50 fee when I explained that I had called and no one mentioned that and said that it would be fine she waved it but didn't tell me that she was waving it went on to tell me all the other charges that I would have to pay. Ended up being a bit more than what I had anticipated. I had paid extra for a lot of play time and this time it seems as though he was a bit calmer however he was absolutely covered in urine that was dried and hardened all over his underbelly and the bottom of his legs where he had been lying and I thought that was absolutely disgusting so that in addition to the attitude of the owner and the hours have made me decide not to return. read more

Parkers journey started about 3 weeks ago at Creature Comfort Inn. He was not a very good listener and not very fun to take on walks or should I say the human pull for him. Now after the training at Creature Comfort Inn its a completely different experience with Parker. Time is definitely more enjoyable as we walk and he stays right by my side. Or we go out into a field or in the woods and he stays within 20 feet of me the whole time giving him a better experience on his walks with much more to do than just walking step by step beside me. Also if i need him. A simple Come Parker and he is barreling back to me at attention right in front of me. Distractions are a thing of the past. Walking down the road its like the cars don't exist to him anymore. Rabbit runs right in front of us, and oh he perked up and was ready to roll, but NOPE contained himself and stayed with me. I recommend everyone with a companion like mine to get this training. It is A WHOLE NEW EXPERIENCE for the both of you!!!!!!!!!! They also trained me the owner as well the right and wrong things to do while training. I for one would confuse the poor guy if I wouldn't have gotten this training. There is no way to say HOW MUCH I AM APPRECIATIVE OF EVERYTHING THEY HAVE DONE FOR US. read more

This is an excellent kennel with a wonderful and caring staff. My dogs always seem perfectly happy to come here, as if they are visiting one of my friends homes. It is the one place I totally feel at ease with when I have to leave my beloved dogs. There would be not a moments hesitation in my recommendation for this kennel. Creature Comfort Inn was very accommodating. My pup, Cooper, was only supposed to stay one night but there was a delay on my trip home and I was unable to pick him up on the scheduled day. They graciously kept him an extra day for me. I trust them more than my own family with my furbaby. He always has such a great time there! I highly recommend getting the wood walk and extra play time if your dog enjoys being outside. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. We've been taking our dog here for boarding for over a year. Dropping him off has become a beeeze, and sometimes we can't even get a goodbye in before he runs off. The staff sometimes posts photos of the dogs playing, which we really enjoy and look forward to. They seem to genuinely love and care about the animals, and they are always very friendly to us as well. Definitely an excellent and trustworthy place to leave your pets. read more

This is one of the best boarding facilities I have ever used. Tammy and the team are very caring and attentive to their guests, and my rowdy hound dog gets a lot of play time while he is there and has never come home with any injuries or illnesses. The Creature Confort Inn team also helps out with the local shelter, collecting donations at the holidays. The facility and grounds are immaculate, and the owners are really good people. read more

This place is fantastic! Very clean, very well-maintained, very nice! You can tell the people that work there are dedicated to their jobs and love animals. They seem like very professional and caring people. I boarded my dog here for a week and when I picked him up he seems more behaved now than he was when I dropped him off. I started using Creature Comfort Inn after we relocated to the area in March 2013. My kids play travel hockey, so to say I use them all the time is an understatement. The facility is clean, well thought out, and the staff obviously loves animals. I've never been able to use a kennel where I could pick up my dogs and not immediately have to give them a bath to get rid of the "kennel smell"...until here. Also, both of my dogs were adopted from kill shelters. My German Shepard always had issues when taken to a kennel and would be fearful. Again, not an issue here. The staff knows and trains animals, especially working dogs, and can handle my dogs with ease. It has actually gotten to the point where my dogs are excited to stay here. I don't even get a goodbye at the door anymore :( I will never take my furbabies anywhere else! read more
