A Cautionary Experience - Please Visit Before You Commit ["Dog recovering after eating toxic material at boarding facility" In the news, January 2025. See image in post for link] I rarely leave critical reviews, but as a devoted pet parent, I feel a responsibility to share my experience at Puppy Manor in hopes it helps others make an informed decision. While I was initially drawn in by the promise of open land and splash pads, what I observed in reality was quite different. Yes, there is a splash pad--but I also saw multiple dogs standing on a large, dry asphalt area as the afternoon heat began rising. I expressed concern and was reassured the staff wets the ground as it gets hotter. Still, it was concerning, especially in Florida's climate. There's also a significant grassy area where dogs play, which sounds ideal--until you're pulling burrs, burdock seeds, and foxtails out of your dog's fur every day. While I want my dog to have fun like anyone else's, I also believe daycare should be both safe and reasonably maintained. There was no sign that the dogs' time in muddy, debris-filled fields was limited, nor any clear effort to improve the space. Despite being told the facility was "under renovation," I saw little evidence of actual improvements. The outdoor drop-off and pickup has a very industrial and dated look to it. On one visit, I waited with another dog owner for nearly five minutes or longer--no one was at the front, and no one responded to us. We knocked on doors with no luck. Only after the other owner called the facility's phone number did a staff member (Vince) appear and tell us she (he) had been making dinner. Meanwhile, we knew the dogs were crated and ready to go--there is simply no excuse for no one being available to release pets to their owners. That experience alone left a lasting impression. The staff dynamic is inconsistent. Brianna, while sweet, often seemed distracted and disconnected in conversation. Vince, on the other hand, was kind, helpful, and clearly loves the animals in her care. I truly appreciated the adorable photos she sent me--it made me feel, at least for a moment, that my pup was happy and being looked after. The pictures were so cute. But even with those thoughtful touches, my gut just didn't feel right the longer I continued bringing my dog there. I never felt fully at ease leaving my dog here, and to me, that says everything. It reminded me of the uneasy feeling you get when leaving your child somewhere you're not fully confident in. I've taken my dog to several daycares across Tampa Bay and beyond--this one gave me the least peace of mind. Before enrolling, I strongly recommend stopping by unannounced, outside of the 1:00-3:00 PM "nap time." Ask yourself: are the dogs lounging calmly in the advertised "acres of land" with attentive staff, or is a single person sitting in a chair watching over ten or more dogs? My observations leaned heavily toward the latter. Also, be sure to ask detailed questions about pricing. While Puppy Manor does not offer grooming services, they charge $30 for a very basic bath--no brushing or extras. Even with that option, I still found myself bathing my dog almost every day because of how dirty she came home. Their prices are not significantly lower than other, far better-kept facilities. I even reinjured my back twice just trying to wash and rinse my medium-haired dog after daycare. She sleeps in bed with me, and I simply couldn't bring her in the house in the condition she was in after pickup. I truly admire pet parents who don't mind muddy paws on their carpets or furniture--but for me, home is a place of comfort and cleanliness. While I absolutely know she's a dog, I still expect her to come home somewhat clean. Lastly, I encourage potential clients to view online reviews and photos with a healthy dose of skepticism. My direct experience didn't align with what I saw online, and it made me question whether the glowing reviews were from verified pet owners. Puppy Manor looks nothing like the curated images on Google. If you love your pet as much as I do mine, I sincerely recommend exploring other options. Cost matters--but so does cleanliness, communication, and the peace of knowing your dog is truly cared for. read more

Beware of having your dog here for day care or boarding. I trusted the team to care for my dog but she was placed in a kennel with FRP that has a toxic material in it that is potentially deadly if ingested. The boards were hung inside the kennel where my dog or any dog could chew it. My dog unfortunately did chew the last night of her stay and became more and more lethargic during the day after ingesting this material in the night. The manager on duty the morning she sustained her injuries assured me she would call me if her condition changed or worsened. She did not call me and had said she was off at 1 pm. I called just after 1 pm and she informed me that our beautiful and sweet girl was lethargic, tongue swollen and hanging out of her mouth and that she was unable to get her tongue in her mouth, it was so swollen. She did not call me or alert me in anyway that her condition deteriorated and so severely. I asked her, Jessie, to take her immediately to the Gandy Pet Hospital and she did not. She told me it probably was nothing serious and not to worry about it. I called, texted and literally begged her to take her to Gandy Pet hospital a couple blocks from Puppy Manor. She did not- she never did- told me she was off and to contact the other manager. It was over four hours later that Heather took Elsa, our husky, to Gandy Pet Hospital and then was almost immediately transferred to VEG on Dale Mabry. I was flying back to Tampa and was told my girl may or may not make it before I arrived back on my flight. Fortunately, she did survive and she was almost dead when I arrived. I was told by the doctors she had severe ulcers in her mouth and she was likely not going to survive. They worked so well with here, life saving measures and transferred her to Fetch Intensive care hospital in Brandon. The doctors here kept saying this was not from chewing plastic- they she had some kind of chemical poisoning or electrocution from her injuries and state. I kept asking questions of the regional manager and then learned about the styrene toxic and poisonous chemical in her Kennel which is what she chewed. The Veterinarian was able to treat her and she had a very long, lengthy and costly recovery of over $16,000. I have all the itemized receipts I can post here. The owner paid $4000 and waved her $1800 boarding fee- leaving me with the balance - just over $10,000 and a very sick girl which was not guaranteed to survive. She did survive and it was a very long healing process with nine medications per day for about a week, feeding her through a feeding tube that was placed in her neck, through her esophagus and into her stomach. The FRP boards with styrene in them are no longer hanging in the kennels and I would not trust this location to care for your dog. The agreement they claim I signed, even though there is no signature on it- maximum to pay for a dog $500 or the cost of a dog. Very disturbing and I am blessed to still have my precious girl, Elsa. read more

This was months ago but I haven't had a chance to review because I have been dealing with the surgeries my dog had to have. On the first & only day at Puppy Manor, my dog got whip worm (the one parasite not covered by his regular and WORSE cherry eye. The manager openly admitted to me that one employee noticed at 11 and another noticed at 1 and no one notified me resulting in my dogs eye continuing to be exposed to more play time in the dirt! He had to have 2 very expensive surgeries on his eye. They did refund me for the day but I am out thousands from surgeries and expensive whip worm medicine. read more

We had our 6 month lovable 4 lb healthy Puppy there for daycare. When he was picked up, the owner said that he had a "funny walk", because he had been playing all day, she massaged his back leg, and told us that it probably would get better in a few days,if not, see the vet in a couple of days. The owner insisted that this puppy has always had a limp. We took him immediately to the vet and he has been treated by an orthopedic vet surgeon. Puppy is struggling to save his leg and had pain. Our puppy is permanently significantly damaged and harmed. read more

What an amazing place! After signing up my Boo Boo for dog obedience school, and I called to ask some questions and spoke with Dan. He was so kind and taught me so much. He suggested that in preparation for obedience school next month I start rewarding my Boo Boo with treats when she does something I ask her. Wow! In addition to Dan generously offering me his time over the phone, what's amazing is that with his suggestion I taught my little dog how to fetch in one day! I am beyond excited! I can't wait for doggy day care and then obedience school! What matters to me with businesses is integrity and kindness, and that's what this place is about! read more

Puppy Manor is great. Our dog loves it. All my husband and I have to do is wake up and get ready at the same time and our dog gets so excited thinking its puppy daycare time. If we say "puppy manor" he will go crazy whining until we take him. He gets to play fetch all day, socialize, swim, and is never caged . Best of all, they upload pics daily and you can see just how happy your baby is! Oh and it's pretty great how tired he is the next day. Highly recommend. read more

I wish I could give Puppy Manor more than 5 stars; this place is simply amazing! Adam and the rest of the staff are all extremely welcoming, happy, well-trained, and truly love each dog who comes through their gates. I have been sending my soon-to-be 2 year old pup there for 8 months and could not be happier. My dog comes home happy and tired each day, and is practically leaping out of the car to go in each morning. I also boarded him for 8 days over the holidays, and the experience was again, phenomenal. There is something to be said for having peace of mind while at work, knowing your furry child is having fun and being loved. They also include adorable report cards at pick-up each day! I highly recommend Puppy Manor for daycare and over night boarding. The staff is friendly and greets every dog by name! They also provide a report card on your pet. As an animal lover I was very comfortable leaving my dog there knowing she would be taken care of, loved and NOT cooped up in a kennel. We love puppy manor! I have been taking my Doberman there weekly for the past year and a half and she loves it. Every time we pull into the park lot she gets super excited to run inside and play with all of her friends. By the end of the day, she is always happy and very sleepy. Once in awhile she will even fall asleep on the floor of the lobby during the few quick minutes of picking up her report card. The staff are all friendly, knowledgeable and very involved with all of the dogs throughout the day. I love that if I have to board her at puppy manor for a night/few days, she will be cage-free with an attendant all night and have her pick of the bed or comfy couches. I would recommend Puppy Manor to anyone looking for daycare, boarding, walking or any other pet needs. read more

Our 9 month old Cavalier has been going to Puppy Manor for several months now and my wife and I would and have emphatically recommend them. Our dog Louie races to the car when we tell him he is going to Puppy Manor ( yes he recognizes the name ) and he can't wait to get out when we get there. Their philosophy of a cage free environment is one that mimics what most dog owners have at home. He is being socialized to be around other dogs big and small, gets plenty of exercise, and has fun all day. Our Frenchie "Pepper" has been going to Puppy Manor since the beginning. The location is fantastic off the corner of Gandy & Westshore, and is convenient to a couple of major commute routes; even so, I know of a few that come from way out of their way to bring their poochies to the Manor. It's well worth any drive as the owners and staff (Adam, Val, Sutton, sorry if I missed other names) so very obviously LOVE the dogs and genuinely enjoy spending time with their charges. I can be the epitome of over-bearing fur-parent, however from the beginning they've always been patient and extremely informative whenever I asked about the way they run the place or how they would handle situations. The facilities are huge with lots of space to roam around: two large fenced areas behind the building and an interior with many rooms, large and small which allows for separation if it's ever needed. They are not only a cage free environment, their place is set up with multiple couches and an actual (people) bed for the overnight pups to make them feel at home. I trust them to keep a close eye over the pack and they have great intuition as to the dogs' interactions and moods. They're not just business owners, they are friendly people and canine enthusiasts; that goes a long way with us! Lastly but not least: Pepper can't get enough. She is ready to jump out the car window when she sees where we're pulling up in the morning and barely wants to leave with me at the end of the day when I pick her up. Best place for our standard poodle, Puff, hands down! Adam, Ryan, Alex and rest of this stellar team are so kind to people and really truly love dogs. They understand their individual personalities so well! Adam is like Caesar the dog whisperer. As for me, I'm obsessive about giving my dog the fullest and happiest life to feed his body, mind and spirit. If you know anything about poodles (which I didn't), they're extremely smart, intuitive and love to run and jump like gazelles. Then they like to crash and cuddle like a baby. This is the place for all of that and more. Puff is only 2, so he's very playful but also loves people. He's also way too intelligent and polite to be put in a crate - ever. According to him, he is not an animal. The staff at Puppy Manor "got" him right away. They gave him all the love and encouragement he needed to get integrated when he first arrived. After a few months now, he cannot wait to go to "doggy camp" in the morning and gives us the bum's rush out the door so he can get to the car first. When he gets there, it's like we don't exist. He has his particular friends there and things he enjoys doing. He's so happy and prancing out to reception at the end of the day that it makes me and my husband happy. You know when your dog is happy. He goes home to eat and crash in front of the TV. I'm so grateful to the team at Puppy Manor for the special environment they have created for my boy. No place like "THE MANOR"! We have two dogs, a very social yellow lab and an extremely shy chihuahua; Puppy Manor works for both! The staff is fabulous! In fact, I want to adopt Adam as our dogs absolutely adore him. Our dogs come home exhausted...A sure sign of a successful day away. The thought of putting our babies in crates while we are away always deterred us from boarding them. Puppy Manor is like going to a friend's home. They are loved and socially stimulated. I have been bringing my lab mix here since they opened. The people who work there love and care about all the dogs that visit the Manor. My boy was a little on the chubby side until his weekly visits there. He now gets to run laps in there huge play yard with his friends. This is an amazing environment to give your dog a social and active life. My wife and I could not be happier with how much fun he gets to have while we are at work. read more
