I decided to visit this place for lunch on a Sunday, i was craving some pupusas, this place was packed so i was expecting a good food. I had the 3 pupusas meal (10 dollar value and they are good size) and chose to do three different ones, zucchini with cheese was pretty good, you can't go wrong with the cheese one, the chicharron (pork skin) one wasn't that good, i think overall all of them needed a little bit of more seasoning. The mango agua fresca tasted more like water than mango, but the orchata was very good. I would have given them a 4 star but because of the agua and the seasoning I'm doing 3 stars, I do recommend the place and I would come back for sure. "Excellent Salvadorean pupuseria and more in Braggtown area of Durham!" We came to try this at around 6pm on a Friday evening. The restaurant is unassuming and sits near the end of a long strip mall. A few other families were eating. One goes to the counter to order (dine-in or carry-out), and the food is then brought to you. The menu is not long-- pupusas (similar to "small but fat quesadillas", if you haven't had one), a few appetizers, and a couple of dishes. They also had three kinds of drinks-- horchata, a tasty mango drink, and a third I don't recall. My wife and I split 4 dishes: a pair of chicken tamales, an order of 3 pupusas with cheese and "loroco" (edible buds from a flower), chicken & potato empanadas, and plantain empanadas. We also got the horchata and the mango drink. Food came out maybe 10 minutes after we ordered, and it was HOT-- clearly just out of the frier for some of them. The masa in the chicken tamales was smooth and SUPER yummy-- I think there could have been a bit more filling, but the taste was still excellent. The chicken and potato empanadas were also really good. I liked the pupusas, but they were a bit mild in taste for me-- I might go for chicken next time, but it was good with the cabbage slaw (see below). And the plantain empanadas were VERY good and super sweet. It's almost like a fried stuffed plantain (also coated with some sugar)-- we couldn't quite tell what the white stuff in the middle was-- my wife thought maybe actual banana, but I wondered if it was some sort of sweet cream filling. Both the savory empanadas and the pupusas came with a side of the cabbage slaw that was quite good-- definitely had some heat to it but not overwhelming. And the drinks were delicious, though the horchata seemed to have an almost chocolate-milk like flavor which was unexpected. The price was SUPER cheap-- pupusas were under $3 each, tamales under $2, etc. We spent $36 including tax and tip and still brought a good bit of food home with us. Service was fine. Neither of us was fluent in Spanish, and the host's English was moderate, so we had a bit of difficulty asking questions (e.g., whether the drinks had dairy/ milk), but it worked out, and he was friendly enough. Overall, we VERY much enjoyed the quality and value of the food we got. High probability we'll return. read more

I originally planned to try all of the pupusas in Durham before settling on a favorite, but after coming here, I've tried nowhere else. I have zero regrets. I call in my order before leaving home, and the pupusas ($2 each) are ready by the time I get there. The pork and cheese are my favorite, but I also like bean and cheese as well as the chicken and cheese. They are stuffed full and cooked perfectly, and the curtido is the best I've had. They also put the salsa on the side, which is nice so the curtido does not get soggy on the way home! The mango juice is AMAZING and so cheap. Get the large- you'll want it. Are you still reading? Came across this gem today when it popped up! Pupusas are good and seem to be made once orders are placed! I did mine 'to go' since I only had a limited time for lunch. Wait time for the food was about 15 min(?) not bad for something that's made 'fresh'. Pupusas were good! The ratio between filling and the outer part was perfect! The slaw adds slight spice but not a whole lot. If anything, it adds texture when eating the pupusas which, I'm all about texture :) The salsa kind of tastes like homemade tomato sauce like but not really...not really sure how to describe it but definitely enjoyed it with the pupusas and slaw! Got a side of empanadas de platano and I have to say I think this is a new fave! Never had anything like it. I'm used to plantains but not in an empanadas format it's quite different! It's in an older area of North Durham but the food is worth it. Everything we got was freshly prepared and delicious. Bean and cheese pupusa was our favorite, chicken and cheese was pretty good too. Their slaw is wonderful, slightly spicy from the jalapeño. Salsa is basic but compliments the entrees and slaw. Also had chicken and potato empanadas which were a corn dough, almost like a tamale. Fried and well seasoned, they were delicious if eaten with the slaw. 2 pupusas, 1 order of 4 empanadas = $7. Extremely affordable and a great value. Plus they support immigrant rights. Go spend your money and time here, you won't be disappointed. Only down side was it's a bit slow. Seems like everything is made fresh and they don't have a super efficient kitchen yet but nothing too terrible. Took us ab 20 min from order to received food. But was busy also. read more

I heard about this place and decided to drop in for lunch. There is counter service. Things come a little slowly but it's well worth the wait. The papusas arrive steaming hot and with fragrant aroma. As a Salvadorian I am very picky when it comes to my country's food, but this place has definitely exceeded my expectations! The food is authentic Salvadorian, the pupusas are so good, empanadas are the best I have tried in the tri state area. Highly recommend it if you like Salvadorian food. Absolutely delicious pupusas! We've had the pork pupusas as well as the vegetarian pupusas (cheese & bean & cheese & loroco). Their cortido & salsa makes a great accompaniment. They also have delicious drinks, including mango & horchata as well as charamuscas (frozen paleta-like dessert in a bag) in a ton of fantastic flavors. An amazing treat are the tasty empanadas de platano (plantain empanadas). A bit sweet, with a wonderful texture -- they are a great addition to any pupusa choice. The restaurant is right near TROSA thrift store for a convenient post thrifting lunch or dinner. read more
