As a non-BC citizen, non-Canadian, I think there's some context missing about who these guys are and what (if any?) nostalgia or specialty or size of operation they really have going for them. But here's the context I do know: they make a nice chocolate and I found them in the mall. The latter first--the mall. I will save my full mall experience for the actual mall review, but I rarely visit them even in my own town. But being here from out of town and being stranded after a cancelled flight means you have some time to kill. And I'm looking at it as a blessing, because I've been on this chocolatier kick lately and when I fired up the Yelp app it pointed me to the mall and to Purdys. Due to its location here, I'm guessing it's a larger chain of stores in malls and other accessible spots across Canada, so while it's not hand-dipped by a grandmother in Belgium, it's still chocolate. That brings me to point two: the chocolate. I picked up four different bites to try. First, the white spruce. It's a dark chocolate ganache with a minty, creamy center that has a hint of white spruce. It's blue and beautiful and I like the mintiness. I tried the PB&J and it was much more bold, with a fruity molded gel and chunky peanut butter inside of a decorated shell. The maple meltie was pure Canada, and even though I don't adore maple, I could eat a dozen of these no problem. The surprise winner, though, was the goat cheese and chardonnay. Equally beautiful from its painted outside to its double-decker inside, it was rich but not punget, and a really unexpected win. From the packaging to the branding, it's all very polished. These would make the perfect gift if you were looking for something to bring back to the chocolate lover in your life. I love a good old classic dipped bar with nuts from Purdys ($4.95). I love purdy ice cream ever since I was growing up so eating this once in a while is a major throwback for me. A lady dropped chocolates and then acted as if it was no big deal and there was no consideration for food safety. Emailed customer service and they were not helpful, just made it more difficult as they made me go back to that lady which I didn't want to because I knew that she would give me attitude. When I went back, she didn't want to do anything about it as expected and gave attitude for her mistake. Then you had to speak to a district manager named Marge, even though customers are busy and don't have time or energy for more fuss and she barely did anything to actually acknowledge the mistake. she gave a minimal gift card, though with such a poor experience, would that really encourage people to go back? Just illustrates the poor customer empathy and lack of customer service with this company, really not good at all. A true Vancouver institution and home of the famous hedgehogs, Purdys (when did they secretly get rid of the apostrophe?) is some seriously good stuff. Parking is available in the Richmond Centre lots surrounding the mall. This location is towards the Bay end of the mall. What I found rather amusing is that they now sell chocolate "moon cakes". Looks like a good alternative to the typical Asian ones in the tin box every Asian guy gets around that time of year. But of course the focus of the review should be about their iconic hedgehogs and ice cream bars. They've cranked the pricing on those bars (some $4 now), but for those willing to pony up the change, these things are beautiful. Vanilla ice cream, coated in their chocolate and covered in nuts. Very delicious, and a must-have for anyone visiting the city. The hedgehogs are a perfect gift for anyone who has visited Vancouver as well. They put the chocolate boxes into those brown paper bags that are for take-out instead of putting them into the Purdys bags. I was really surprised they used those bags for customers because it did not make them look good. read more

Wow--this is the nicest Purdy's ever! Come to think of it, at all of their other DT locations: the PC one by the food court, Metrotown's ground level @ atrium, and now here at Richmond Centre. I have a long-standing love affair with Purdys, and that isn't going to change any time soon. If you're not from Vancouver (or Canada) and have never been to Purdys before, you don't know what you're missing out on. They are true masters of the chocolatier craft! This Purdys is tucked in a corner of Richmond Centre, right by Hudson's Bay. They renovated it over a year ago, and as a result it is a bit larger than the Purdys in MetroTown or Guildford Mall (must be the open floor plan). The staff at this location are friendly enough, but be warned! They can get quite pushy to try and get you to buy more chocolate, no matter how much you buy (clearly they gets a commission every time they make a sale). This Purdys has the usual selection of chocolates: everything from exotic Goat Cheese & Chardonnay truffles to Marshmallow chocolate bars to their famous hedgehogs. I've tried almost everything in the store, and I have to say that their best sellers are best sellers for a reason. I don't think anything they carry in the store will ever beat the pure decadence of a milk chocolate Sweet Georgia Brown (or its white chocolate relative, the Nutty White Mac!). Their milk chocolate Hedgehogs and Himalayan Sea Salt Caramels are quite delicious as well (and make great gifts for friends or co-workers with with nut allergies). Their ice cream bars are also very tasty, although ridiculously expensive for the amount you get --but I guess that's Vancouver for you. Dipping them in nuts or white chocolate or milk chocolate makes for a luxurious treat. This is a great place to buy sustainable sourced, high-quality chocolate for friends and relatives abroad. This is a wonderful Chocolate store that has been here for at least 15 years ,maybe longer.It is right inside the RIchmond Centre Mall. They have Ice cream on one end which they will put in a cup or a cone. They also have some of the best chocolate you will ever have. They carry milk and Dark Chocolate. Made right here in Canada. They are famous for the little chocolate Hedge Hogs they make. Whenever I want to bring a fancy gift back to the states I will get something here. Back to the Ice Cream, you can get it in a cup or cone, and they have punch cards, so when you get so many punches it will be a free Ice Cream for you. Check it out, so worth it. read more

When I think of Purdy's, I think of dillybar fudge ice cream dipped into dark chocolate and sprinkled with lots of peanuts all over it! Yum, however today I had to maintain myself and try something new. The lady around the counter was so helpful and treated me with such a warm welcome and recommend me some new chocolates for the season: green tea matcha, sake+Sakura and bananoffee flavour chocolate. All three were a delight especially matcha. You can never go wrong with Matcha. The sake and Sakura one didn't taste that bad although I thought it tasted like cherry. The last one was quite a bit of getting used too as it was two flavour that doesn't really go together but in the end was interesting. Due to limited season supply of these chocolate they go by really fast, so I would def recommend to go try some! read more

I was reminded of this Purdy's 'cause my friend Kenneth recently reviewed this place. I came here a few months back. They're one of the few locations, outside Pacific Center, that sells macaroons. Sadly their macaroons aren't made in house (outsourced), however, I was able to get a treat package together with macaroons and chocolates. The lady at the time, Amber, was super sweet and helpful. I remember her 'cause were were joking together about my macaroon addiction. She acted as though she actually enjoyed her job which seems to be rare with the Purdy's brand in general. read more

We received excellent customer service when we visit this location in Dec 2016. The women working the counter introduced us to several wonderful chocolate. Our only regret was only buying one box.
