Exterior, within Aberdeen centre, 2nd floor

J Sweets sells Japanese sweets/desserts from famous Japanese brands. It's located on the 2nd floor of Aberdeen Centre. The interior is clean, spacious and well-lit. It gave me an airport duty free shop vibe due to the way the products are presented in the store. I believe J Sweets is a North American chain. One of the brands they sell that is probably the most recognizable is Royce Chocolates. Upon a quick glance around, the prices are rather high, as is the case with imports. I got a mochi cream, $2.75+ tax. I'm not sure why the previous reviewer as well as the pictures indicated that there are many flavors. When I went there today, the staff told me that there is only one flavor available until early-mid December. So what does a mochi cream taste like? If you've ever bought mochi ice cream from grocery stores, it is exactly that. I'm sure this mochi cream used better ingredients; however, I do not think it justified $2.75 a piece. The caramel pudding flavor wasn't strong and the inside of the actual mochi didn't look like the picture - i.e. where was the caramelized sugar (dark brown) bits? In conclusion, opening a location in Aberdeen is quite fitting as the mall also has many other similar stores that sell imported Japanese goods.

Haven't been to Aberdeen for quite some time and there are new stores...this particular store caught my eye as it was bright, great displays and sterile clean. This is a dream for people with a sweet tooth. They have many high end Japanese selections to choose from..pricey..but I've tried a couple of brands they carry and it's worth a nibble. Mochi...they have at least 10 different kinds, but went for 3 (black sesame, double mango and strawberry shortcake). At 2.75 a pop..I would pay for them because they are that good in my opinion. Light, not overly sweet and refreshing if you could call them that. Ended up buying 6 more of the same flavours to bring home..can't wait. Yes it's pricey, however worth it. Will go back to buy other options at a later date. I just wished they had Royce orange truffle...wow.

If you like Japanese treats, this is a store worth checking out for some premium brands. We bought a few items to try. The mochi was sweet, firm marshmallow like and floury. There was a piece of mango in the double mango mochi ($2.75). It was good for mochi standards. The other items are meant for gift giving or self indulgence. We bought a white peach jelly ($25) and the packaging was pretty. The jelly tasted exactly like a white peach, but I would not repurchase for myself. For the same money, I could have bought a cake to share with others. The cookies are high quality. Again, the prices reflect the import costs. It was on sale so we bought a few tins for gifting and a box for ourselves.
