Known as the best salon around, I find that this salon is hit or miss but always expensive. I've had great haircuts and some not-so-great haircuts. Wish I could remember her name (Martha, I think) but she doesn't listen to her customers and very opinionated about what she wants to do instead of what you are asking for. She didn't do anything that I wanted and yet it was a very pricey service for nothing. My hair basically looked the same after highlights that it did prior to the service. Men, keep looking! I've had two haircuts at this Salon about a year apart. I typically don't use this Salon due to the bad experience there the first time, but I decided to give them a second chance. The first experience was all around bad, the haircut and lack of the Aveda Experience. When I got home, my wife had straighten my hairline on the back of my neck and also clean up some of the fading on one side of my head. I didn't receive the hot towel facial or massage that is suppose to come with a men's haircut. The second time visiting this salon and it was slightly better than the first in that I did get a good haircut, however again, no hot towel facial and no hand massage. Both times I walked out of this Salon with hair all over my face. On this second visit, I was going to ask for a towel to clean off my face, but I decided to let it go to see if they would let me walk out of their salon like that. Both times I had my haircut by a Master Stylist and paid $50.00 for the "experience." I don't know how a professional Salon can let a man walk out of establishment with hair all over their face. Apparently bringing in a photo of the haircut you want is not a good idea. I've been going here for several months. First couple of cuts were great then the stylist, B, decides that she is going to call the shots for my hair. My last cut was the worse ever and she said it was her best ever. I told her I didn't want the cut so short that the tips of my ears show. That's exactly what she did but backed it up with some BS reason why she HAD to cut it that way. Now that I look back, I don't know why I even paid for the cut. There were so many reasons why this cut was totally messed up. I decided to just cancel all future appointments and start the search for another stylist. Someone who will listen to me. Not wait until I've been going there for months then tell me that the cut I've been showing her won't work on my hair - which I don't believe. I actually think she scalped me on purpose so that I wouldn't come back. She had made a snide comment about 'the picture I always bring'. Very disappointed with her service. read more

I've been going to Barbara for about 18 months, and sadly this is my first review. First of all the salon is professional, accommodating, and overall it's always been a relaxing and and wonderful experience. But let me brag on Barbara. My hair is thick and naturally mousy brown. But now it's the perfect shade of blonde and the length is perfect. But Barbara is the SWEETEST young lady who has ever worked on my hair. She is meticulous , her work ethic is phenomenal, she continues to accommodate me when I need to move an appointment. I decided last minute to get a new haircut before flying home. My hair was super dry from the hard water and the clarifying shampoo I have to use often. I managed to get a last minute appt with Gina for a treatment and a haircut. I thought I'd have to get spendy for a keratin treatment but I didn't which was nice. I asked a bunch of questions which she happily answered. I got a lob haircut which I love! (Thanks, Gina!). I like the little neck/scalp and hand massage they gave with the haircut. It was a nice touch. It's an Aveda salon so they're stocked with all their products. I'm not a loyal following of any particular brand but I think I'll have to start sticking to Aveda. Recently moved to the area and found Aveda through a new neighbor. Called and made a appointment for a consultation. I was I introduced to Gina and 5 months later I could not be happier with the way my hair has looked after each appointment. Gina is very friendly and knowledgeable with hair and styling along with products that actually worked for me. I love this Aveda salon/spa location! While I actually get my hair cut at a different Aveda that is closer to my house, I visit this location for their expanded spa services (i.e. massages, facials, mani/pedi). I have tried both types of body massages and both were excellent but I actually preferred the cheaper option (PureElemental Nature Massage) vs the Chakra..not sure why, just personal preference. My husband bought me the Pure Bliss salon/spa package last year for my birthday and it was absolutely excellent! The package was $210 and included a mani/pedi, facial, massage, and blow dry/style so overall i thought it was actually a steal for how much I got to experience. The prices for services here are higher than places like Massage Envy, etc but thats to be expected for getting all Aveda products. Definately would (and have) recommend this location to friends and family. read more

Totally disagree with previous review about Shelby, the massage and the owner. Glad this customer is not a regular because I wouldn't want to meet her and have to have "words" about this. This salon is a great place, all the staff are knowledgeable and helpful. The owner(s) are fabulous people and do so much for the community. My husband and I get all our services here and we couldn't be happier. We've been long time customers and it offends me that someone might speak disparagingly about the salon. I did a keratin express treatment and we came up with a 6 week plan to hopefully then be able to cut and color my hair to make it look better. From walking in to walking out it improved so much. I should've of listened to the reviews and saved myself! I usually only go to my spa for my weekly massages, but since my business trip was cut short and my masseuse was booked up. I decided to go to this salon. This was a huge mistake. I arrived 20 minutes early, because I figured there'd be some intake forms before my massage. They seated me in a waiting area. At my scheduled appointment time. Shelby came out and proceeded to want to go through paperwork ("consult") with me. I asked why wasn't this done while I was waiting? She proceeded to tell me it was standard procedure. I said that's fine as long as it doesn't come out of my time that I'm paying for. She told me that it's counted as part of my time. The manager came back and told me that they would add time to my massage to compensate for this, because I was ready to walk out right then. When we got back to the massage room, Shelby was the worst masseuse I have ever had. I felt that she was deliberately going as slow as she possibly could. I asked her three different times to massage me faster than what she was. She just went on to say that that was her technique. I know massage schools don't teach students to move like a snail over you. DON'T GO!! The owner is despicable. The guy could care less about the customer. And further more couldn't keep his eyes off my breasts. I think the positive reviews must be by people that are friends of theirs or don't know what a good spa is. read more

Men, avoid this place like the plague!!. I had longish hair with approx 4" long at the back, over my collar. I explicitly asked for the bottom at the back NOT be touched, and about 2" overall topside trimming. The hairdresser went straight to the back and cut the 4" off, on one side. I came here specifically because it was Aveda, thinking there is no way I would end up with a bad cut and color. I was a first time client, and a last time client. The cut alone was 75, I knew it was going to be pricey, hence me thinking there was no way to mess it up. I didn't end up coloring it because she was going to charge me 195 for just the color. Couldn't afford it, but I said if everything goes smooth with the cut, Ill return soon for the color. I apologized, but I was never informed of the prices and wasn't prepared to spend 300 on a stylist who had never touched my hair before. So I think from this point she just blew me off. I have mid back, think blonde hair. I asked for all the split ends to be removed and a lot my layers, movement, and volume to be added while trying to keep as much length as possible. Needless to say, I spent over 100 bucks with a 25 dollar tip, for a basic cut THAT IS STILL FULL OF SPLIT ENDS! I cannot even imagine what she would have done to my hair had I actually colored it. I could not be more pleased! We are in the area seasonally and I needed a spot for a cut and color touchup. It is always a risk going somewhere new but this was the best! When I lived in Mt. Dora I went to Ric, the owner, who is the best in color and cut. After moving to St. Petersburg I still drove several times a year back to the salon. It is that good. I have been to other stylists there with wonderful results. The atmosphere and friendliness are the tops. I am sad that I live in the NE now and unable to go. Being new to town and knowing the Aveda reputation I came to the Pure Aveda salon for a hair cut that was much needed!! after 2 years of growing it out I decided to donate it. My appointment making process was easy peasy, when i showed up parking was a bit of a challenge but that's what you get in downtown! lots of parallel parking spots, but i came during an event so I had to park a few blocks away so I was a few minutes late to my appt. I was seen within 5 minutes of arriving there, They give a heavenly scalp massage, then wash your hair with some glorious smelling shampoo and also give you a hand massage, all for only $35!!!!! However depending on your stylist the price may vary on their experience. My stylist did an amazing job, I even went for a balayge and when my hair didn't want to take to the color i selected they arranged for me to come back so they could fix it without any extra cost.
