Barbara destroyed years worth of hair growth in minutes. I came in and requested that 3-4 inches be removed and to bring my hair up to my nipples. What she did instead was cut at least 7 inches and brought my hair almost to my collar bones. Completely ruined the look of my hair and my fiancee hates it. Am pissed. read more

I recently moved close to Mount Dora and needed a new stylist. My previous hair stylist I had been with for sometime. And as you know, when someone knows your hair and you, it is hard to move on. So picking a new hair place and stylist is an emotional decision as well as a rational decision. I used to use Aveda Salons and only got away from them because my hair stylist switched to another salon and I followed her. When I saw the tremendous location and size of the Pure Aveda Salonspa and I knew I wanted to try it. But the friendliness of the cashier desk, the decor, and how they are handling COVID impressed me from the very beginning. And then I met my stylist - Emily. She was knowledgeable, had experience with fine & thin hair like mine. She took the time to talk to me. She asked me what I liked and didn't like. She even made a fantastic suggestion for an under-color. No salon-dating for me. I have found my new spot and blessed to have done it so quickly. I recently had an appointment here with Ellie. She was super sweet and I enjoyed chatting with her. However, I am so unhappy with my haircut. I asked for some layers, in hopes it would help bring my natural wave back. I showed her a picture of what I'd like my hair to look like and I got something entirely different. The hair framing my face is long--a little longer than collarbone length, while my shortest layer rests over my ear and lands right at my chin. I have a lot of really fine hair and so much of that was taken away with this cut. The layers I was given are not blended and are really noticeable and overall very choppy. I'm now having to go to another salon to try to make it look more cohesive. For $65 plus a tip, I should not be left with this. Attached is the reference photo and what I am left with. read more

I would give no stars if I could! I made an appointment at this place thinking that since it has a name it would be good! Don't fool yourself! I called for a haircut appointment and was given an appointment with Debbie. The first thing I told her was that I had a asymmetrical hair cut for 5 years and I let my hair grow to be able to change. I also told her that I needed something that I didn't have to fuss with as I don't have the time or like to use stuff on my hair. She was friendly and we talked about life in general. At the end of my haircut I was pretty much rushed out without ever being shown the back of my hair or talk much about my haircut. I left without much comment. I asked her if she didn't want to take a picture for her portfolio since she took my hair from shoulder length to almost nothing and the response was when you come back for hair coloring which I was planning to. I hated my haircut!!! She had destroyed my hair. I have naturally curled hair but she managed to remove the curls from the bit of hair left in my head! And guess what style cut she gave me? Asymmetrical!!! I complained about my hair since I left the salon but I'm the type of person who does not go back. Yesterday I went to another hairdresser to try to fix my hair and he told me he could not figure out what she did!! There were holes on the back that made no sense. I had to get a much shorter haircut to again let it grow to be able to fix the mess she made on my hair. Upon entering, your nose will tell you that you are in the right spot! Aveda smells so clean and fresh and delightful!!! The decor of the salon puts you at ease immediatly. The staff is always so welcoming and warm. When you are seated, you're started off with a scalp and shoulder massage while your stylist has your consoltaion...so relaxing!!! Having moved to the area I looked around and tried a few midscale salons. Still unhappy I thought I would give Aveda a try. I'm from Minneapolis after all, and Aveda was born there. I previously thought Aveda was overpriced and too "out there" for my tastes. Called and spoke with the manager who was very knowledgeable about her staff and listened carefully to what I was looking for. She made an appointment for me with Holly. I have to admit, when it comes right down to it, I don't take the best care of my hair. With COVID and the quarantine has made my procrastination amplified. It had been a year since my last hair cut (I feel like I am in confession now). I do like to use Aveda hair products for my hair because my hair is really curly and that helps tame the craziness. So I found an Aveda salon close decided to give it a try. PS, I really don't do posh. The salon was beautiful with very eclectic but tasteful modern music playing. I was obviously under dress in my North Face t-shirt and cargo shorts topped of with my black Vans sneakers. The women and one gentleman were dressed in black and ready for the club. I was checked in immediately and Barbara took good care of me. My cut was great, the conversation was light and not oppressive or over the top. All was great. I bought a couple of recommended hair products and checked out. This is when I got sticker shock. It was 160, which is nothing for ladies hair styling and cuts but o can't speak directly to that but it was a bit steep for me, but it was worth it for the quality of cut. The interesting thing to me is something I call the "Porsche" effect. The less the is on the car the more you pay. I only had approximately an inch of hair removed and paid more then if I went to the local barber who would have removed 80%. This is no way a jab at either but an interesting observation. I loved my experience and recommend it for a yearly adventure as I will have to save up for another year. Cheers read more

I was able to schedule a last minute appointment and should have known why...while the stylist was generally pleasant, she had been working in a different field for several years and is now returning to hair styling. While she indicated being familiar with all kinds of curly hair, that does not appear to be the case as the treatments she recommended left my hair dryer and more brittle. Additionally, I was charged for a hair cut I did not have. While the amount for the cut was refunded, the quality of the treatment and color and the impact both had on my hair was concerning as was the amount charged for the services. This is the best Aveda salon that I have been to in the nation! Now, I've been to about 5 salons total, but in various cities like DC and San Francisco. While Aveda is Aveda, it is the presentation and the special little details that make your experience special. At Pure Aveda you first get a shoulder massage with your hair consultation and then a head massage during the shampoo and then a hand massage while your hair is being conditioned... that sums up to 3 mini massages in 1 haircut! At a salon in San Francisco I felt like I got 1.1 of a massage during my haircut and in a salon in DC, I felt like a got a 1.7 of a massage in one haircut...you do the math Anyway, this is the most professional Aveda salon in my opinion and they pay attention to details and live up to the Aveda mission. Why isn't there a zero star on Yelp??? They did call back the nest day. Again, he (Micheal?) fought with me when all I wanted was "I am sorry WE screwed up- how can we make amends." He could just have shut up by then- but no- he continued on and they he blamed me for talking to much and getting it wrong. I think the management and Spa is higher then the Rocky's. I've been to this salon twice & both times were awesome. The staff is very welcoming and make you feel right at home. Both times that I've come Jillian has done my hair. Absolutely love(d) it! She is definitely worth the drive!! The first time I went I had a 60 min Elemental massage from Katie. It was nice but I preferred the Chakra massage...it was soooo nice! Took my daughter for a up-do for the Mt. Dora HS ROTC BALL last Friday. They did a good job on her hair but the Spa/salon is filthy. The ceiling fans are covered in a 1:2 inch of dust and dirt. The under bench in the hallway between the spa room and salon stations (where I was sitting) looked like the floor was never cleaned under it. They just went around it not even under. I had a full foil and haircut done a few months ago. Being new to the neighborhood, I thought - oh great, an Aveda!! It has to be good. I usually don't splurge on expensive haircuts (as mine is such an easy trim), but needed to get it done as it was right around the holidays so I added the pricy trim onto the full foil. The stylist was great - so friendly, experienced, fun to talk with, and I was so excited about finding a great new place so quickly. However when I styled my hair at home and used my flatiron, the haircut was the worst I've ever had. I ended up cutting a few pieces myself that were longer than the rest. As for the color, the stylist didn't let it process long enough and it wasn't nearly as light as I had requested. To make matters worse, the color washed out in 3 weeks even though I used the Aveda color care products. I really enjoyed my stylist, and I know I should've gone back to have it all corrected, but with the holidays the time got away from me. Overall, it is a beautiful salon and I love the Aveda products. It's worth checking out, but be sure to be extremely vocal about what you're looking for. read more

I have been going to Aveda Salons for over 20 years, from Vermont, to MA, and now to Florida...I love the Aveda Product Line. My most recent experience was with a salon in MA that I went to for between 5-6 years. My experience with color and cut was always amazing. When I moved to FL recently I used the Aveda Salon in Mt Dora. First I sent my daughter and she had a lovely cut and 2 or 3 process color. Next I tried the Salon...#1st visit-- Stylist insisted on doing 'her' color to my hair which was quite different then the color I was used to, but I grew into it. The cut was less than satisfactory...I have a lot of hair and it is the type of hair that is wash and wear, however, after this cut I could not do anything to manage my hair...I went to another salon and had a cut that lasted me until my recent appointment on Monday of this week. #2nd visit Time for Color -- I decided I would try one more time because everyone has a 'bad' day once in a while. I was very clear about the color of my hair and please do what she did the last time. I also was quite clear about her only cutting where there were tiny pieces that needed to be cut as I was using another stylist for a cut. The stylist, I did not realize it at the time, got an attitude, very subtle...she went and mixed color, and came back, and then applied the foils. She came back in a very short period of time and removed the foils --- I told her my hair appeared to have red tones...which is a no no for me, she told me it was the lighting, however I could see my scalp and the hair line...she insisted that was not so...she shampooed my hair, and then turned me over to another stylist to blow dry my hair, and did not explain to this stylist how I wanted it done. The stylist, who was very attentive, and professional, tried to redo the absolute nightmare of a hair style, it looked like I just got out of bed and had no time to brush or comb my hair. This stylist wanted to redo my hair, however, by this time I had been in the salon over three hours...As I was leaving the first stylist told the woman she had passed me on to to make sure she charged me for using the curling iron etc. At the front desk, where the staff is always professional, courteous, and certainly have customer satisfaction as their highest priority, wanted to have me stay and have my hair redone and were quite gracious...however, at this point I was late for other appointments in my daily routine. Now it is four days later and the red tones, the color red that is so unnatural are so clearly seen on my root line. Here is the best part --- I was charged over $200.00 for this scenario. The building is beautiful, and Aveda products are fabulous, however, I would rather get a Fabulous cut and color and give up the frivolities that have nothing to do with the performance of the stylists. I high recommend this salon for the Front Desk Experience --- nail and pedicure....and perhaps other stylists are more experienced and know how to LISTEN and RESPECT their clients wishes... read more

Men, keep looking! I've had two haircuts at this Salon about a year apart. I typically don't use this Salon due to the bad experience there the first time, but I decided to give them a second chance. The first experience was all around bad, the haircut and lack of the Aveda Experience. When I got home, my wife had straighten my hairline on the back of my neck and also clean up some of the fading on one side of my head. I didn't receive the hot towel facial or massage that is suppose to come with a men's haircut. The second time visiting this salon and it was slightly better than the first in that I did get a good haircut, however again, no hot towel facial and no hand massage. Both times I walked out of this Salon with hair all over my face. On this second visit, I was going to ask for a towel to clean off my face, but I decided to let it go to see if they would let me walk out of their salon like that. Both times I had my haircut by a Master Stylist and paid $50.00 for the "experience." I don't know how a professional Salon can let a man walk out of establishment with hair all over their face.
