I was genuinely excited to try this studio, but the treatment I received upon walking in was shocking and unprofessional. I was immediately yelled at by the owner Casey (if I recall her name correctly), who aggressively questioned how I was able to sign up and went on to say she tries to ban Wellhub and ClassPass guests. She continued by openly expressing how much she dislikes both platforms, as well as corporate Pure Barre. What she may not realize is that platforms like Wellhub and ClassPass often introduce new clients to studios--many of whom join after having a positive first experience. Unfortunately, this was anything but positive. The class wasn't close to full, yet I was made to feel unwelcome and embarrassed before it even began. Fitness studios should be inclusive, professional, and welcoming. That was not the environment here. Based on this experience, I would strongly suggest trying one of the many other studios in Charlotte that actually value new clients and treat people with basic respect. read more

She then used the restroom, and went to the cubbies and snatched my wallet out of my purse. This was caught on a security camera. The owner was very responsive and gracious regarding the crime that took place but please be careful with your belongings. I used to be a regular at the Pure Barre location on Newbury Street in Boston. It's been a little while since my last barre class, but this past weekend, I had a free morning and had been wanting to try out a Charlotte location. I biked over to the Myers Park studio because I had been worried about parking - no need to worry, there seemed to be tons of available parking. There was not, however, a bike rack...maybe one day! The studio is small but cute. Shannon greeted me at the front desk and I signed some necessary paperwork. The class was full, but not uncomfortably so. I had forgotten how hard this workout is! Wow. I bike about 30 miles a week and consider myself to be a very in-shape person, but this class kicked my butt. It works your body in ways that nothing else does. I especially appreciated the arm workouts, as I know that biking does very little for my top half. Two days later, I'm still sore and it feels great. I'll have to get back into a regular pattern of going to Pure Barre, because it is a truly unique full-body workout. read more

I'm going to keep this short, simple and to the point. I love this place. Here's why: 1. I am SO NEW to Barre. I walked in almost wanting to hurry and find a corner to hide in and I wasn't even in the class yet. The woman checking me in was SO NICE AND WELCOMING. She calmed my fears and told me to go easy on myself. 2. The place is super nice, small and has a great use of space. 3. The other participants were sooooo nice and made me feel welcome. I this was my first ever Barre class and I couldn't believe I came ALONE. But after I did it...I felt so empowered. 4. Alana was awesome and sooooo easy to follow. She monitored me and gave me adjustments as the class kept going. 5. Whoever said that they didn't sweat their first time is either a) in tremendous shape and doesn't normally sweat or b) lying. I broke a sweat within the first 15 minutes....but honestly that's because I'm so not in shape. Well I'm in ok shape but I've had a recent surgery that involved cutting through my stomach muscles so I should really give myself more grace. I've had to regain strength in that area and it's NOT easy. Moving on... Word of advice: go with an open mind and don't be intimidated. Everyone was crazy nice and the class is pretty easy to follow. The only thing is if you are like me and aren't very flexible...you will stick out like a sore thumb. But the feedback I got was to KEEP COMING and I'll get better. Do yoga and I'll get more flexible. So that is what I want to do. pure Barre was a great workout and I really felt it. Some of the poses I couldn't do...so I just waited until the next movement. After each section, we did stretches to give out muscles a break. I think at one point I got a cramp in my butt cheek and my triceps...terrible. But I expect to feel it tomorrow and I already booked my next class. I'm going to master that pulse tuck lift if it kills me!! read more

After multiple attempts to find the gym- the workout- the running trail that was "for me", I finally think I've found my place at Pure Barre. The instructors are so pleasant and know your name after just a few classes, and that really impressed me. The classes have never felt crowded, and everyone is so nice. The workout is just insane, I have never experienced anything like it in my life. I'm finally spending time and getting results on those "problem areas" of mine. I have been doing Pure Barre at the Myers Park location longer than I can actually remember, but at least 8 years. I've done over 1200 classes and can honestly say it never gets old. It's truly my stress reliever and something I prioritize in my life. The workouts are always tweaking and changing so I am continually challenged. I fact, the longer I have done Pure Barre, the harder it has become as you really learn to do the moves correctly, which allows you to go deeper and stronger. The addition of various class formats like Empower, Reform, Intensives and Stretching keep it new and fresh as well. Even more than the great full body workout, I really love the sense of community at Pure Barre. The teachers are all so positive and encouraging -always smiling and truly having fun. They genuinely care about all of their clients and it shines through in every class...from knowing everyone's names, favorite(or least favorite) moves and how to push each one of us to be the best we can be on that day, realizing every day is different. The owner, Casie Petty has created a very special place and staff that keeps all of us, who have been doing Pure Barre for years, coming back day after day. I wanted to love it, really I did. Pure Barre is close to my house, their prices are the more reasonable of the trio of studios, and it's next to a Starbucks. Alas it was not meant to be. Definitely not my favorite in the area. I tried the one month unlimited for $100 that Pure Barre offers new students. I found the classes to be extremely repetitive. Frequently in the ab section I would ask for help because I wasn't feeling anything only to be told that "it takes a while to figure out our abs." I never had a problem getting into the classes that I wanted, but instructors and front desk reps definitely spent more time speaking to regulars than making new clients feel welcome. Also, their mats and resistance bands are really faded and in some cases cracking. With the cost of classes, those items should be in excellent condition. I rarely, if ever sweat during the classes, and I feel as though I could have gotten a much more difficult workout for the money. read more

Who wants to do all this labor without enjoying the FRUITS?! Not me. I was lured into Pure Barre by the new client special. $100 for one month of unlimited classes. They offer early morning classes, morning, afternoon, and evening. There is a time for everyone. From those working the 9-5 hustle (moi), high school students, mothers, you name it. So--there is never an excuse NOT to go lift, tone, and burn. And BURN you will. The class is divided into warmup, arms, thighs, seat, and abs. Before you know it, the inevitable, and uncontrollable shaking has ceased and class is over! The results are quick and noticeable. I traveled to Charlotte for a week earlier this year on business and found this studio 2 miles from the hotel. I love pure barre and had been taking classes at the LA (Brentwood) CA location. I had high hopes but I also know from my travels that not all pure barre locations are great. This studio was incredible. Spacious, lots of room near the cubbies, there is a huge boutique in front and the staff was friendly and welcoming. The class was much larger than what I am used to but the instructor did an excellent job engaging the class and correcting form and I didn't feel crowded. To be honest, the class I received here was one of the best pure barre workouts I have EVER taken. I have taken well over 100 classes and this one stood out as one of the top 3. I won't lie, I am a bit of a barre snob. I have tried almost all of the major studios in Charlotte and two years later, I think I have finally found my perfect fit. I initially tried Pure Barre as a part of "Class Pass" and quickly converted to a full member. Coming in to Pure Barre, I was very nervous that I would stand out. I am not the "stereotypical" barre student, ie: I am definitely not a size 4. The studio is very welcoming and made me feel totally comfortable. I came to class early and the studio owner and also class instructor Casie greeted me at the front desk. She is super sweet and a GREAT teacher! Casie gave me the low down on the lobby and briefly what to expect in class. I highly recommend getting to class early to ensure that you give yourself time to get prepared for class and settled into the studio. I've already claimed my favorite "spot" in the room. A few things that stood out immediately to me - the room is carpeted, which I really like. Most barre studios feature hardwood floors and I find myself slipping around easily. The equipment that is used in class is different than what I have experienced, which I also liked. Pure Barre has a variety of elastic bands including a "double tube" that is killer for the exercise sequences. The sequence of class is very traditional for barre - warm up, arms, thighs, seat, abs and then stretch. The exercises presented in these sequences are unique - their repertoire of movements is vast and the method is incredibly effective. What I like the most about Pure Barre are the instructors. So far I have had class with Casie, Jessica, Brittnee and Carolyn. They are all ROCKSTARS. The teachers are constantly correcting form and adjusting you during class in a nurturing and private way. They turn off their mics when they come over to give advice, so they aren't shouting "CHELSEY, HEAVY TAILBONE" across the room. This gave me more confidence and didn't make me feel self conscious about my mistakes. Overall, this is an A+++ studio. I am very excited to continue my progression in these classes. Even just a few weeks in to my membership, I am a bonafide LTB (lift tone burn) lover and I am already in love with Pure Barre. read more

I love this Pure Barre studio. Sure, it's expensive and yes, the work outs can get a little repetitive, but if you switch it up by attending classes with different teachers then you'll be golden. This is really an all-female studio (sorry, guys) with clientele dressed to the nines in their Lulu outfits. Maybe it's a little yuppie, but at least everyone there is serious about getting a good workout in. You wouldn't pay the fees here if you just want to socialize. You'll see results in a few weeks - my arms and back have never looked this toned. There are a variety of class times (6 am to 6:30 pm) during the week and on the weekends, so you can definitely fit PB into your schedule. My membership recently expired but I'll buck up soon and swipe that credit card - this workout is too good to pass up. read more

LOVE it. Absolutely love it. Don't get me wrong, the workouts are killer, but in a way that keeps me coming back eagerly without dreading my workout. I'm actually using the workout to help kick start my fitness post-surgery, and it is definitely working all the muscles that I would have forgotten about. It's a great change from the tedious cardio activities (read: running) that I could so easily have turned to, and keeps challenging new muscle groups. I tried this place using Class Pass and found it to be ok but just not quite my style. LIKES: -The teacher is friendly and great. She helps correct your form in class -The studio is nice and clean instead -They have nice fitness equipment -The music is pretty good. GRIPES: - Not a very vigorous workout. I informed her of my concerns with my back (injury) and she immediately went over class instruction and then introduced to me the instructor, Laura (?) - horrible with names. Laura also went of class and how to modify moves... Well, I am completely in love with this class! My body aches from muscle fatigue, but my abs and back feel great! Everyone was super nice and one kind lady even came over to congratulated me on my first class and encouraged me to keep coming back. And you know what, I AM! I trained at this studio for two years. The location was convenient for me, though parking is kind of a nightmare. It's not cheap. After training there for several months, it became quickly apparent that there was a HUGE difference in the quality of the workout from class to class depending on the instructor. The workout itself is extremely repetitive so it does get really boring after a certain period of time. Some instructors seemed to be phoning it in during class, never checking anyone's position or stretching people during class. Others, like Amity (who unfortunately isn't there anymore) and Elizabeth, really went out their way to make sure people were in proper alignment. This workout is all about form and small movements so if you aren't doing it correctly, it's almost a total waste of time. In my opinion, PB doesn't incorporate nearly enough stretching for the amount of work you're doing. The studio itself is OK. My biggest issue with the space was cleanliness. I went into a bathroom where someone had vomited into the sink and no one had cleaned it up. The bathrooms were almost never clean. And the studio workout area has indoor/outdoor carpet which was covered with hair and gross considering all the sweating that goes in there. I prefer floors (like hard work) that can be cleaned daily. I stopped going because 1) the workouts became boring; 2) the best instructor (Amity) left; 3) getting a reservation for a weekend class was impossible 4) I noticed that the front desk staff was gossiping about clients behind their backs, mocking new students and other people for using incorrect form. I also witnessed the manager humiliating another client for failing to cancel for a class she had signed up for on-line. Overall, for the money and the experience, there are better barre classes in Charlotte that don't leaving you feeling like you've joined a sorority house. read more

Review for Ballantyne location: I almost hate to give them 5 stars because the classes lately are crowded enough, thank you. However, I've noticed that some newbies will attend a handful of classes, seem awfully discouraged, then are never seen again. This review is aimed at those gals. It is intimidating to be "the new girl" in a class where everyone seems to be effortlessly doing all the moves correctly. Ask your toned and flexible neighbor on the mat how long she's been working out with PB and you'll find that it's been at least three months. Based on my very unscientific survey, that's about how long it takes to reach the point where you can do all the exercises with some grace, assuming you aren't a dancer, etc. and already in top form. Many newbies can't straighten their raised leg while doing ab work on the mat against the wall. Guess what? Most of us couldn't at the beginning. Most of us also couldn't last through an entire session of "little up, little down". It took time and practice. The workout is tough, but you will see results. Think you look clumsy? We all did at first. Some of us still do when a new move is introduced. No one cares. Everyone is there to work out, not to judge. There's no competition; we are all in pain. The Lululemon fetish is probably a little overwhelming for newcomers who have not been assimilated by that particular borg, but it isn't a snobbish vibe. Those outfits are just cute, but a t-shirt and an old pair of leggings works just as well. The instructors are phenomenal. They are funny, encouraging, and will definitely push you. Several have dance and/or yoga training as well, which is a plus because they will notice and will reposition you so that you don't hurt yourself. If you decide to give it a try, force yourself to go to at least three classes a week for a month, don't do a class here and a class there. The new client special makes that affordable. Whatever you do, don't give up after just three classes. read more

This review is for the girls who are afraid to try Pure Barre. I started at the Ballantyne location a few months ago with a friend of mine who wanted to take advantage of their special for brides. I recently moved and am now attending the equally clean and welcoming Myers Park location. After 3.5 months, I am hooked. For those who are intimidated by talk of how difficult the classes are: The rumors are true, but I started after I took a long hiatus from any type of exercise, so I was not coming into it with any fitness level to speak of and was still able to fully participate and even enjoy it. Yes, I was the worst for awhile, but everyone is too focused on their exercise to judge you and the instructors are always on hand to correct your positioning or give encouragement. My advice would be to give it a shot, watch the girls who have been coming for awhile, ask questions after class, and don't be discouraged if it takes a few weeks to get the hang of it! I'm 25 and my body has never looked better, not even when I was a teenager. My arms and legs are toned, my seat is lifted, and even a hint of abs are starting to appear. I can't wait to see the results a few more months will yield. read more

I have been running with a good friend for 5 years and she helped me train and run my first half-marathon. Last September I noticed her legs and arms becoming much leaner and asked her what she was doing differently. She told me she had been going to Pure Barre for a month. I could not believe the huge changes in such a small amount of time. I have now been going for 4 months and love it. I noticed my body start to change after only 10 visits. This is a very pretentious place. For as much as the classes cost, the atmosphere is cold. The women who go loudly talk about their vacations, etc. The instructors are not helpful except for Elizabeth who is Awesome. The entry area is small and gets crowded. Pure barre lake Norman is further away but has different management. The instructors at LKN are all great and the atmosphere is wonderful. Worth the extra driving time. Not sure why the staff at PB Charlotte is so rude and nonchalant about their instruction -- there is competition for their business. Flybarre, Carolina Barre and Core, Hilliard Studio Method, Laughing Buddha Fusion classes. Most of these classes are also cheaper than PB - win win! I thank PB Charlotte and Elizabeth for the intro to barre classes, but I will not be returning. I would love it if I could take classes elsewhere with Elizabeth :) though...... read more

I was in Charlotte for work this week and decided to take a Pure Barre class at this studio (I've been taking classes for a while at my home studio). The single class price hurts a little bit, but it was worth it. Everyone was so nice and welcoming - and not just the employees! The students are also very friendly to a new student. The studio is very spacious and all of the equiptment was in great condition. The instructor, Elizabeth, was wonderful. Even though I was just there for the day, she made a point to introduce herself and learn my name. All of her instructions were incredibly clear and she made a point to correct my form when it was off. and the class was challenging. One of my favorite things about Pure Barre is that even though each class is different - the warm-up and the structure stay the same no matter where I take the classes. I always walk aout the door having exhausted my arms and legs. I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in the area. read more

This is a great Pure Barre studio! Super clean, encouraging instructors, and ample space in the lobby and inside the studio. I was only in town for a month, but wish I could have this as my regular studio. I took classes with Sarah, Elizabeth, Virginia, and Casie (the owner). I found them all to be extremely approachable and helpful with their corrections during class. Overall the workouts have enough variety to keep it feeling fresh and challenging. Greetings ladies! I am 3 weeks away from my first fitness goal of 2014, which has a lot more behind it than just "toning up" and I'm pleased to say pure barre charlotte has been there EVERY step of the way-- from teaching me safe modifications from a recent shoulder dislocation and wrist injury, to allowing me to jump into class sometimes a few minutes after the clock cuz I have no car and walk 3 miles to get there, to always having great music and a smiling face that got me through an unexpected breakup, to creating financially feasible deals and motivating challenges that don't break the bank-- I think it is obvious how much I have needed this place to get back on my feet and beyond, and will miss it as I'm moving to Asia as an English Professor very soon! PB has been a family that no other barre studio I have even been in offers and that is really saying something! 2 months, 11 pounds, and 4.7% body fat later and all I can say is all the inches I lost would have meant nothing without the support and confidence I gained at your studio.
