To walk into a massive store dedicated solely to hockey... well, it got me all choked up. I have always considered Philadelphia and its surrounding suburbs to be a great hockey region but the local availability of hockey equipment is downright embarrassing. With the exception of a few small -- but good quality stores, like Max's Hockey Shed -- there are very few brick and mortar stores where a hockey player can fulfill his or her hockey needs. Shopping at a store like Modell's or Dick's is a complete joke. You are about as likely to find a decent selection of hockey gear -- shy of Flyers shirts during the playoffs -- there as you are at Shop n Bag. It's a relief to see a store like Hockey Giant open in the Philadelphia area. It legitimizes my claim that Philadelphia is a hockey city and will only help to continue growing the sport locally. read more

Huge hockey super store. Came in to pick up new glove, pants and shoulder pads for my son. All the latest gear to look at and try on. And no one bothers you unless you ask for help. When you need help they staff there is very knowledgeable and ready to answer your questions. Instead of looking at the gear on their website and hope they pads fit OK, it was great to be able to take it off the rack and try it out...and then buy it here instead of going waiting for it to come in mail order. There should be more stores like this and less Sports Authorities, DIck's Sporting Goods and Modell's. Only complaint is the skate shop, that is in a separate room in the store. The shelves where they kept the skates were chained off and you need then to get the skates for you. Not quite sure why they needed to rope it off. Perhaps, people were walking off with the skates. Anyway, we didn't want to have to wait for someone to come over to ask to try on skates, so we just took off. Around July each year, we're planning on coming back to do some "one stop" shopping for new gear. Great store. read more

I bought a pair of skates here recently. They have a pretty big selection of Bauer, Reebok, Easton, and CCM. I spent a while trying on skates on my own, pretty confident I knew my size. A salesperson came back, and suggested I measure my feet to be sure. Turns out I was a size smaller than I though, apparently the difference between shoe and skate sizes gets larger as the size increases, as my size 14 shoes translated into a size 11 Bauer Skate (Reebok 11s were to small though). The price was in line with online stores, and they were able to sharpen them before I left. Once I got out on the ice, the sales advice seemed good. The 11s felt better than any 12s I'd ever rented. Definitely worth buying skates if you expect to skate multiple times over the course of the winter. read more

Pretty big selection of products but horrible customer service. In all visits to the store we never had anyone ask if we needed help and when we searched someone out they weren't knowledge about the items they sell. Our most recent visit will be our last. My son wanted to try out a couple different sticks (both $200 plus) and an employee yelled at him for stick handling and rather then staying to help him just walked away saying its store policy. We made a $300 purchase at our local pro shop that evening since they were willing to help him make the right decision on his next stick. read more

I went in at peak time, Saturday afternoon so it was a little tough to get help right away but once I did I had an excellent interaction. The salesman measured my foot to make sure I was getting the correct skate. Helped lace up the skate. Gave me advice and went out of his way to show me the differences on the various skates. I felt good about my purchase and walked away with a great pair of skates below budget. It's very difficult to find street hockey equipment anywhere locally. I went to Dick's and they literally don't carry street hockey skates. Modells has a small selection. Pure Hockey is just as the name says, pure hockey. A store all for hockey. Definitely a cool place and I'd say to definitely check it out. read more

Dont call them and expect to get anything accomplished if they are too busy... they tell you whatever they can to get you off the phone.... STOP acting like your the only company on the planet that sells stuff.... theres all kinds of deals online from other retailers with MUCH BETTER customer service - even if by phone - so piss off by computer since you won't talk to me by phone.... read more

Every single time I head to this store it's a great experience. The staff is wonderful, helpful and always seem to care more about your needs than what's the best sale. That's a good feeling. A great concept to have a store dedicated to hockey equipment. The problem is you can't tell who the employees are from the customers. Tshirt and shorts are unprofessional. Other than maybe the manager all other employees are very limited in their knowledge of customer needs. They want to tell you what they wear or wore from their playing days. Who cares! Product knowledge would be helpful. The website prices will be matched but only if you mention the difference. They are convenient if you need something immediately but don't waste your time if you're traveling any distance. Your local proshop will be a better option. read more
