Poor customer service. Waited around for someone to help and the employees avoid you. Put us off buying skates from Pure Hockey.

This review is long over due. This Pure Hockey store is a winner, for sure. I spend half of my life at the rink and the other half in this store. All the employees are super friendly and knowledgable. I recently had to replace my son's skates. He has never found the "perfect" skate and it has been a struggle. Pure Hockey now uses a nifty machine to scan your foot and then provide guidelines. The sales associate will then suggest skates based on that. They were spot on. My son, till this day, tells me how he finally found the perfect skate. Prices - well, if you play hockey you know. So no comment there :-) Selection - they certainly have a really good selection of items. The shelves are always stocked. If you are a goalie there is an entire room just for you. This store is certainly my go to. Also, if you ever order something online from them, you will usually have it the next day or the day after. Certainly a winner. read more

We always stop here when we are in town. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Way better than buying gear online (which sometimes has to happen). Great options for youth goalie gear which can be hard to find in store. read more

He not only takes care of our usual skate sharpening, but when it came time for new skates, he really went above and beyond. He expertly did the scan and had a great understanding of how the overall foot shape impacts the fit. The staff is SUPER informative and helpful, and they truly have everything that you need for the sport. He has a tough time making decisions and they've never pointed him in the wrong direction. Having played hockey and had a son who played, I was more then interested when Behind the Mask opened in this strip mall. Since we left Chicago, I've found myself shopping in various hockey stores and always left feeling that they didn't measure up to what we were use to in the Midwest. But no more! Behind the Mask is a genuine, honest to goodness Hockey store. I couldn't tell you what the square footage is, but they have everything! Including a small hockey rink where you can have your picture taken. Nice! As for the prices, they seem very reasonable. For instance, they carry goalie pads from Mite to Pee Wee, for $250 to $750 or more, which seems very reasonable from what I was use to pay. Elbow and shoulder pads, chest protectors (both skater and goalie), reinforced pants (again, goalie and skater), all sorts of skates, sticks etc. But for me, I was just surprised by their large selection which was outstanding. It helps to have 15' ceilings! They also have NHL jerseys, so if you want that one of Shane Doan come here. Maybe Hockey has a future here in the Valley of the Sun! WOW! read more

Love Behind the Mask and this location is the best! The people working there are knowledgeable and always available to answer questions. I needed to buy a pair of 16" shin pads and couldn't find any while looking on my own. One of the guys working grabbed a ladder and looked through all of the shin pads on the high racks until he found three separate pairs for me to try. He also answered the questions I had about each model until I could make a choice for which ones I wanted. I'll continue to choose this location as often as I can! read more

Not impressed with the customer service or overall hockey knowledge at this store. My wife and I recently relocated to Phoenix and as a surprise, my wife decided to purchase a pair of skates for me as an anniversary gift. She decided to do such after doing some research online and reading about the CCM 90 day satisfaction guarantee program. For those of you who are not aware, CCM offers a no questions asked 90-day satisfaction guarantee on specific models of their skates. Unfortunately, the skates didn't fit properly so while I appreciate the kind gesture I asked her to take them back to the store as will likely get a pair of custom skates made later this year. Imagine my surprise when the staff at the store told her since the skates are used and there are no refunds! She called me from the store frustrated, explaining that she showed them the information on the CCM 90-day guarantee but they refused to honor it. As she was upset that they wouldn't listen to her and were rude I told her to come home and I would handle it myself. I figured it was just some new staff who was not aware of how the policy works. Here is where it gets messy... I go to the store myself and am told the same thing. I explain to the staff the policies that CCM has and that all CCM authorized retailers must abide by these policies. It's required for them to adhere to the 90-day satisfaction guarantee program they wish to remain an authorized retailer of CCM products. The store staff "put his foot down" and told me thats not how the program works, I dont know what I am talking about, and he would do me a favor and issue me store credit, but nothing else, and he didn't even have to do that. I was flabbergasted... I gave it one more try and wasted my time and energy attempting to reason with him, educating him on CCM policies, but regardless, he was steadfast and not willing to "budge." So, with no other option left, I left the store and called CCM directly and also sent them an email. Within a few hours, I had an email reply which was exactly what I told the store almost verbatim... This excerpt is specifically from CCM: "The retailer has to honor the 90-day satisfaction guarantee. Please show the retailer the flyer attached to this e-mail and the paragraph below: "IF A CONSUMER RETURNS ANY CCM SKATES THAT ARE PART OF THE SATISFACTION GUARANTEE PROMO, SEND THEM BACK TO CCM HOCKEY FOR A FULL CREDIT. YOU WILL NEED A VALID RETURN AUTHORIZATION NUMBER FROM OUR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT (PLEASE REFERENCE THE SATISFACTION GUARANTEE WHEN CALLING CCM HOCKEY)." All CCM skates are eligible for the 90-day satisfaction guarantee. You are entitled to a refund of the amount paid." Just like it's sister store in Gilbert the staff here know their gear and are really customer centric - friendly, not pushy, and have a knowledge of what they are selling. It's a fairly large shop, and by fairly large I mean 6,000 sq ft or so with a large inventory of both ice and roller hockey equipment. I was due for a new pair of skates and was a little intimidated by all the options and technology that new skates have. I wish I could remember the guys name that helped me, but I really appreciate these guys dumbing it down for me and helping me choose what I think are the best skates I've ever had. They took their time and had me try on just about every skate they had and explained the pros and cons of every skate and steered me in the right direction for my playing style and for how much I play. I wound up getting the Bauer 2S skates. Best skate I've ever had. read more

They have a really nice selection of professional grade hockey gloves that you won't find at most general sporting goods stores. The staff was helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable about what they sell and the differences between each glove. Much appreciated in helping me find the right glove. Had a great experience here. We were welcomed and "coach" didn't get his name but he coaches out at Gila River was awsome. My 11 year old needed skates and a new helmet. He spent 2 hours getting the right equipment sizing him up and never once was annoyed. We went through 4 sets of skates and 2 goalie masks before my son picked his skates and helmet. They were baked and sized the whole time coach had a smile in his face..... Loved the experience I will definitely be back!!! read more

BTM is the best hockey supply store (or chain of stores) in the Valley. I prefer to come here (the Scottsdale location) for all of my hockey needs because they have everything under the sun when it comes to hockey! I love their selection of new and used pro stock sticks. This is probably the best part of the store, in my opinion. The fact that they have both new and used pro stocks (not just sticks, other equipment too) gives people the option to buy top-of-the-line products at modified prices. Granted, the sticks don't come with a warranty, but I rarely break them anyhow so it is very worth it. They also have pretty good sales every once in a while. But, their prices are already extremely reasonable and competitive so I can't complain, and no one else should! Their sharpenings are quite reasonable too, at $4 (or somewhere close to that) for FBV on skates purchased from BTM. An all around great store with great prices! read more

I know nothing about hockey! But these guys really do, while I was waiting in line to pay they helped several other customers, they knew the correct kit and color for each school! In this review, I'm only referring to this store (as opposed to the Chandler store, which has terrible service). I play a lot of beer league hockey and from time-to-time I upgrade some of my equipment. I can not say enough nice things about the staff there. Super helpful and treat you great no matter what level of hockey. The prices compare (or sometimes beat) the online stores. That's why I'd rather go here and try it on before I buy, much easier than guessing online and sending it back if needed. All around, awesome store. read more

Bought 5 pro-stock Turco goalie sticks at half price! What a deal!

BTM is amazing!! I joined a hockey team and went here to purchase all my roller hockey equipment. Not only did they fit me in the best skate boot for my foot but they took the time to walk me through step by step and measured me for my equipment. I have now gone to 3 locations and EVERY location has been nothing but accommodating and helpful. If they do not have your size at one they will call the other stores and find your size. I wanted a protective padded roller hockey shirt and they did not have it at the location I went to and they found it at their other store for me. Great people and very knowledgeable. They have a decent selection of hockey gear, and carry really good brands, and price match! I only give them two stars though because of how horrible their customer service is. Several times I have gone in to look for/buy gear and I'm the only person in the store with the exception of the employee behind the counter. This person never greets me upon entrance other than maybe some weird head nod and waits 5-10 minutes before they ask if I need anything. I know they want to hire hockey players who are actually knowledgeable of the gear they sell in the store, but they should also take the time to teach them a thing or two about customer service and how to make a sale. On that note, I prefer to buy from local dealers and am willing to order through them too if I want something they don't currently have in stock, but if you don't take the time to find out my needs and offer to order it for me and to price match this item, then unfortunately I will take my business to Monkey Sports who already has the lowest price. Example: I walk in the store. Eye contact is made with the employee behind the counter and weird head nod occurs. I look around the store for 5-10 minutes. Finally I am asked something along the lines of "finding everything you need?" I'll reply "no." Then ask "do you have such and such item in stock?" "No, we don't have that in right now." This is the extent of the conversation before I pause for a second, make eye contact, say "thank you," and leave. This has happened more than once (I've tried to keep the faith and have given the place a couple tries since moving to the Phoenix area). On the other hand, when they do have the item in stock, I'll get the employee to locate it for me, check the price match guarantee, make the purchase and I'm out the door. The problem with this is, I could have been out the door in less than 5 minutes if you would have acknowledged me and asked what I was looking for as soon as I came into the store.
