Well I'm not looking to be balancing on the top of an isolated Tibetan mountaintop any time soon, but my mind goes about 5,999,000 miles a minute and could use a little slowing down. That's when I saw the free meditation Tuesdays on the Yelp Events page. I walked right in and I was received with so much kindness and warmth I was feeling more calm already! I was slightly skeptic that meditation involved blocking out all thoughts in general. I figured, well that can't be too good, or even possible. But the Tergar method is more practical and approachable - instead of trying to omit all thoughts, you instead train yourself to just recognize and become comfortable with them. Meanwhile, you learn to embrace all of your surroundings and all beings, and lord knows I need that any time I am behind the wheel with my road rage! Tuesday evenings begin with a meditation session, then a group discussion, and then another meditation session that focuses on what was just learned. It's a relaxing and comforting way to spend your Tuesday night, and I always walk away feeling cool as a cucumber.

That was my first Thai massage, i have had many Swedish/sports massages and thought i would try something new. i felt a lot of ego coming from him in all my interactions with him. Even during the massage which makes for a not so relaxing experience. This is my personal experience obviously and others may have a totally different experience but i wouldn't go back nor recommend him to my peeps (family and friends.) He doesn't make any effort at good customer service and kinda makes one feel like they are lucky to have him work on them.

Here, there are no mirrors, no crowded rooms of people trying to impress each other with all they can do or how little they can wear. I thought there was going to be more sharing and healing among the group but it was just a yoga class with some sound healing, and it seemed to be more healing for the instructor verses the students. I hope in the future the instructors have more focus on what people are looking for rather than just showing up and teaching yoga, but taking time to connect the group and leaving room for people to be seen and heard.

I didn't know what to expect going into my session and ended up having a deep connection to my late father and second son, who was born still almost ten years ago. The experience was positively overwhelming, and I gained new insights into our love for each other. I tend to come here when life is tough and need to relax. The staff is always friendly and kind! I've only been to the downstairs room since I prefer the lit up wall in that one :) They blow fine salt into the room which can be a little noisy so that can be a bit distracting at first but I get use to it after a bit. We sat in lounge chairs and had a 45 minute session. You aren't doing much in the room. She also was patient and personable. She shared with me along with my friend not only movements but also some history of Qigong and Tai Chi as well as supplemental materials to support our education. Ellen was easy to talk to and work with. To watch Ellen progress through the studied movements was to see meditation in motion. I hope to find a spot in her Outdoor Qigong class next summer at Lake Hiawatha.

Most cooking classes start with some small talk about the menu, maybe a glass (or two) of wine - Nalini starts with a 15-minute guided meditation that culminates (warning: spoiler alert) with a small food offering that makes you keenly aware you are what you eat. She then discusses Ayurveda and the principal of eating foods balanced to your body (kind of sort of makes sense, but I'm still thinking how much I love bacon). Then the kicker - it's not just how you feel about taste, but also how you feel afterward (needless to say, I could still feel the delicious Prather Ranch corned beef sandwich I had for lunch). The food we cooked - soup, rice and green beans was simple and delicious. It was fun to learn how to mix and prepare Indian spices. But the real learning is to really think about your food. I'm not at all ready to give up corned beef or bacon all together, but even for a couple meals every week, to think about balance, energy and how you feel afterward. First of all, the class was held in Nalini's apartment, which is beautiful. Right off the bat, you can tell Nalini is incredibly knowledgeable. She is also kind, warm, and respectful. I learned a lot about Ayurvedic principles and some of the basics of Indian cooking; however, I didn't even get to use my knife! I guess that would be my only criticism; I expected to do more cooking than I actually did, and to learn more about actual cooking techniques. I think maybe the class size was too large, as I felt there were "too many cooks in the kitchen." Otherwise, it was a wonderfully positive experience. The end result of our labors was delicious! I can't wait to go buy up some spices and try the recipes for myself. I'm definitely interested in some more classes with Nalini, (especially her Dosa making class) as well as one of her culinary tours to India.
