I've been coming to the Salt Cave for years now and somehow haven't gotten around to writing a review! It's always been such a nice treat to come relax and get away from the world. I tend to come here when life is tough and need to relax. The staff is always friendly and kind! I've only been to the downstairs room since I prefer the lit up wall in that one :) They blow fine salt into the room which can be a little noisy so that can be a bit distracting at first but I get use to it after a bit. This was my first time experiencing a salt cave or any form of salt therapy. I'm not sure if this is the thing for me. We did it for a friends birthday so there were 8 of us in our own room. We sat in lounge chairs and had a 45 minute session. You aren't doing much in the room. They place ocean sounds and you can rake the sand if you want otherwise your either visiting or sitting in silence. It was relaxing but I didn't feel it was worth the price. read more

My daughter and I wanted to experience a salt cave and kinda detox . There are cubbies to keep your belongings . You can request and or have different kinds of calming music or sounds . We chose water. There are chairs you can sit in that recline to almost 90 degrees or you can lay directly on the salt. I fell asleep in the chair, my daughter fell asleep directly on the sand. I believe we did an hour in the room. There is water to drink in the lobby. I can't confirm it really speak to an immediate difference or feeling afterwards in regards to detox or anything but it was very relaxing and I would def come again. read more

First time visiting a salt cave so I had no expectations. While not a fan of Reiki, meditation, or sound sessions, it was a group event with great company. The storefront was easy to locate and off street parking were readily available. Ambiance 4/5 The décor was inviting and calming with peach ambiance and fur seating downstairs. with a cute bathroom. The lobby area was intimate however had a enough space for our large group (6 to 8 people). Service 3/5 Service provider explained the process and benefits of salt caves which was helpful for myself. She was also helpful for the senior we had in the group, making sure she had a seat near the door. Upon entering the smell of heat definitely hit my nostrils and I was put off. I wouldn't recommend running your fingers through the rocks, IJS. lol Towards the end of the time, their was a lack of direct communication from the service provider in the beginning. She encouraged us to take our time exiting however the next appointment was waiting. It would have been helpful just to notify us their is a immediate appointment following our sessions. Overall 3/5 It was an ok experience however it was unnecessarily awkward for us and the next appointment due to lack of direct communication. The feet smell totally threw me off. Signed up for a Reiki, Meditation, Salt and Sound Session with a friend. Wasn't sure what to expect but loved the idea of 50 minutes of relaxation! The facilitator introduced herself, gave information about what to expect, and then we were escorted into the salt cave for the session to begin. She even mentioned that if you sit near the back corner, you may get covered in salt dust and I proceeded to not comprehend her guidance and in fact sit right in back with a black shirt! When I came out, I appeared to be covered in powdered sugar LOL, it easily wiped off. The session was relaxing, rejuvenating, and more than I expected. I felt the price point was appropriate and I'm really looking forward to going back for another session and to purchase a salt lamp! read more

Loved an evening of sound healing in the salt cave recently. The cave is small but comfortable. I wasn't aware that salt would get on all of my clothing- washes out but don't plan to wear anything you don't want turning white that evening. The lobby is quite small and the group session felt overbooked. Personally, I would rather pay a bit more for a smaller group experience. read more

I found it to be a very relaxing experience, my allergies definitely went away after I left, and it's a very calming and relaxing environment. There are two salt caves to choose from, and they offer a variety of services, and you have your choice of which music you'd like to listen to while enjoying the salt cave. If your allergies are out of control, you're not feeling good, I definitely recommend the service. I definitely felt better and healthier after leaving the Salt Cave. read more

I took my son here on spring break and we both enjoyed it. He's 6 and we didn't really know what it was all going to entail but we had a blast. The room was very relaxing and he had a previous head cold and it seemed to clear him out. I felt a little pressured to buy a package but nothing too bad. We ended up getting a light up salt lamp so it wasn't in the cards that day to purchase a session. We plan to go once every few months for maintenance. We both really enjoyed it! read more

I refrain from adding too much salt in my diet. However, at the salt cave, can I have some more??!?! I don't see a lot of these salt caves in California, so this was a must do while in Minneapolis. I was more into the aesthetics, but apparently there are multiple health benefits to a salt cave. They call this therapy, halotherapy. Some of these benefits include alleviating asthma, allergies, and respiratory problems. Although I don't have any of these problems, halotherapy can also help with stress and anxiety. With all that walking and drinking, I'm in need of a detox. I did the adult therapy for 45 minutes at $30. The session led me to a salt cave with multiple chairs. As I was seated, the receptionist began the session by a light meditation. He then left to go dim the room and turn on the fan. The next 45 minutes were pure bliss as you hear the ocean sounds and relax with your body laying flat. This was a cool experience and I wish there were more of these. In the first few minutes, your body might not get used to the saltiness floating around in the air. Your mouth will suddenly be salty and cause you to cough. Your clothes will be dusty from the salt. However, your skin will feel so much better. The cuts and scraps will be healed. Fifi was left rejuvenated! read more

I'm all for doing something out of the ordinary routine and The Salt Cave did just that. The yoga session happens once a month so we were a little disappointed about that. Instead, we bought the $30 session for 45 minutes in the cave. The instructor prompted us upon arrival to use the time in the cave to do something different. For those who might never get the chance to think about their thoughts, this was their chance. As for me, I spent the 45 minutes meditating and trying to stay as still as possible. To be honest, the first 10 minutes I was trying to get use to the salty air that was invading my body. After coughing and finally acclimating to the environment, I was able to sit back and wander deep in thought. The cave is beautiful so you can easily get lost staring at it's beauty. There is light ambient nature sounds playing in the background so you really do feel like you're momentarily in another part of the world. I'm not sure how effective one session is but it was definitely worth giving halotherapy a try. Placebo or not, I left feeling better in all aspects. read more

You need a meditation session in the salt cave! Visited for a weekday evening guided meditation. It was amazing! When the 55 minutes were over I found myself completely and utterly relaxed. You'll get a bit of salt dust on your clothes, especially if you're wearing black, but it brushes right off. We were in the salt cave on the main floor, and there is another larger cave in the lower level. The bathroom is in the lower level as well. On the drive home I was quite thirsty, so be sure to have a nice big bottle or glass of water to enjoy after you depart. There were about a dozen people in my meditation session, quite a few pairs and a few singles, as I was. I wouldn't hesitate to go alone to enjoy this stress reducing treat. The session was $35 and worth every penny. In today's hurried over scheduled world it was a true oasis (of salt). read more

I expected a warm relaxing environment to meditate in and to experience the Himalayan salt craze. What I experienced was a loud room with dim lights, lawn chairs, and salty lips. After 15 minutes I was ready to leave. Oh make sure you don't sit in the "skin chair" (next to the salt blower), this is the one that people with skin issues sit in and I doubt they get cleaned between uses. The salt on the floor contains some black particles which I'm sure were from previous guests. So if you want a relaxing, clean, meditative space this place is not for you. read more

My first experience at this particular cave involved coordinating and planning for a group event at the cave. Scott was pretty flexible and helpful with making our event happen. The cave itself is cozy, inviting and relaxing. We booked a meditation session which was a fun way to experience the cave together. I do wish there were more evening hours. The price is a bit steep to make this a regular experience for me. Nonetheless, I am glad that I went and I would do it, again. There is a fair amount of nearby street parking. The cave was intriguing, but I wouldn't go again... not unless the management changed. I had very awkward/uncomfortable interactions with the guy working there, who I found out later is also the owner. When I walked in I wasn't greeted, the guy just stared at me. I had never been there before and was expecting someone to greet me and give me some info about the place. I felt so uncomfortable/creeped out that I wanted to leave but I had signed up with a friend and was waiting for her to arrive. I ended up starting the session before my friend arrived since she was running late and the guy walked me down the stairs to the salt cave and once I was inside the small room he stood in front of the doorway and started asking what brought me there. His tone was so unfriendly and I honestly felt trapped since he was blocking the doorway. It was awful. The salt cave is a cool concept but the interactions I had were bad enough that I have no interest in going back. Many people have had good experiences based on the reviews, but the bad reviews all have a common theme- and there's something to be said about that. read more

I wish I could of said I enjoyed my salt cave session but I drove two hours just for them to say it was canceled and that I was the only person who signed up for yoga. So it was a complete waste of my time she offered to reschedule me for meditation max which I said fine I'll give them a second chance and I drove the two hours back to the studio today just to have her say, "Where is your mask?" I gladly showed her my vaccination card and the lady at the front desk said, It's our owners policy if you cannot provide yourself with a mask you will be refunded and asked to leave." I was extremely shocked because NOWHERE ON THE WEBSITE DID IT SAY MASKS ARE REQUIRED and NOWHERE ON THE PREMEDITATION INSTRUCTIONS DOES IT SAY MASKS ARE REQUIRED. So now I just drove another two hours and i didn't have a mask on me because by law I don't require one and the studio didn't make it clear that they require one until the time of my appointment. Not to mention the women could of mentioned it on the phone when I talked to her to confirm that they were still having meditation today because I didn't want to drive two hours for nothing. Now I'm scrambling 5 minutes before class started to walk around to the nearby stores to see if anyone sells masks. IF YOURE GOING TO HAVE MASK POLICIES YOU SHOULD PROBABLY INFORM YOUR GUESTS since you don't have any boxes of masks to provide them. I am a surgeon and come to your salt caves to help clear up my asthma and breathe clearly. I didn't get any of those effects from your salt cave because I had to wear a mask my entire session. Not to mention there was plenty of space for the 4 people to be spread out 6 feet apart. So not only was I treated poorly the first time, I was treated with an attitude this time as well because I didn't know your store had it's own polices on masks even when vaccinated. I wasn't going to drive home another 2 hours with your store canceling my appointment again!! Then to make matters worse your teacher couldn't get a babysitter so the entire class we were listening to a 5 year old boy talking, whining and banging on the metal chair. I kept opening my eyes and the teacher kept shhhing her son. So not only was I treated poorly, wasted 4 hours of drive time, didn't get any positive physical effects from the salt cave and couldn't meditate with the whining child. Both of my experiences where an absolute nightmare I just wanted to cry. I took today off from surgery to go and unwind and have a me day and truly had one of the worst experiences. I've been to the salt cave before Covid with a different teacher and it was great. Don't know what happened during Covid but with the staffing changes and the way I was treated I would like a refund and I won't be back! I don't understand why your instructor couldn't get a babysitter for one hour since she only teaches once a month and knew about this a month in advance! I see why you had no clients and keep on having to cancel classes because no one is signing up. The way you treat your customers is absolutely appalling and a true shame. read more

My overall feeling was that I paid for a nap. I am 50/50 on this experience because I'm a believer in Eastern medicine but I thought this was slightly hokey and definitely overpriced. I was relaxed for 45 minutes and fell asleep a few times, but I don't think I reaped any benefits. Perhaps you have to be a regular. The cave itself is cozy and dark, very small, no bigger than 500 sq. ft. of space, with lounge chairs and blankets. We were lead through a 5 minute explanation of the room's benefits and then left with the lights dimmed for the rest of the time and a machine with the sound of waves on. Upon exiting, we weren't told the reasons to buy a package or health benefits to repetition, it was just "Would you like to buy a package?" The overall experience was just ok. read more

It's a bad value and I felt like the service was lackluster. For example, they tell you to get there 10 minutes early to maximize your 45 min session. Fair enough, but there was NO ONE at the front desk for a good 10 minutes when we showed up early, so ignore their request to arrive early. Also their ocean wave sounds were relaxing, but shut off abruptly 10 minutes into the 45 min session. Hard to tell if that was accidental or intentional. Bottom line, if you can try the 45 min session for 10 or 15 bucks, it is a unique experience. Will I be going back? No. The place and its employees felt too disorganized and distracted to me. Pros - Interesting new experience and relaxing massages - the massage therapists were very friendly and inviting. Probably the only reason I considered even giving a star to this place was because the girls were nice and knew their massage stuff. Cons - 1. Difficult to make an appointment due to the messaging system -- we called twice, left a message once, and our call was never returned until my sister in law went there for her appointment and had to tell the owner we had tried and couldn't reach them. 2. Owner was creepy and not very inviting. We tried to engage in conversation about the benefits of the salt or how he got the cave started or any sort of conversation you would normally engage in fand he was very short and awkward (almost rude)about everything. 3. There was a camera in the room - which we pointed out and were told it was "off" and was only used when kids or groups were present or something but that our privacy was protected during our massages. I absolutely love The Salt Cave!! Where do I begin my list of beloved comments?! First off, the owner is NOT creepy, as 2 people commented - honestly I have no idea why they would say this about the owner!! I have been VERY comfortable in the space (even when no one else is there!), as well as in all communication with 'Salty' Scott. He is professional, a bit soft spoken until you get to know him, and very, very kind! He holds an immense knowledge of the benefits of salt treatment, and is there to support the guest in any, and every way possible. Secondly, salt therapy has changed my life!! I suffer from asthma, and have found this type of holistic treatment to be healing, soothing, and I see immediate results (between 1 and 3 treatments per week when at my worst, but generally 2 to 3 times per month). I've been able to completely avoid my inhaler when I get regular salt treatments which is incredible, and makes me so, so happy!!! If you don't find the benefits, pay more attention to your body, as this is much more than an expensive 'nap' as one reviewer noted. Finally, I am thrilled to support a local Minneapolis business which has my health in the center of its business plan! I have brought many friends here whom also enjoy the tremendous benefits of salt therapy, and I will continue to book appointments at this special little salty cave in Minneapolis. read more

My friend wanted to try a Salt Cave Meditation, and wanted a friend to come, I decided why not! Let's give it a whirl! Something new, and who doesn't love a good meditation session! I liked that they have free parking behind the building or street parking is available; however we forgot we had to enter through the front of the building. The atmosphere is overall chill. We walked in and were welcomed by the owner at the front desk with a warm smile. I liked that I didn't get a greeting yelled at me, because it went perfectly along with the atmosphere, chill but warm and welcoming. I did a 45 minute meditation session for $35. A little pricey, but thought I'd give it a try. I suffer from anxiety, so I personally brought a blanket along to help comfort me in this new 'salty' room and also if I got cold. Let's be real everyone sometimes needs a security blanket. :] I wore yoga pants and a quarter zip and was comfy. I was in the upstairs room which is warm (like perfect comfy warm) with the COOLEST salt floor that's heated! (OMG I could go on all day about the floor. Go in barefoot and dig your feet in the salt. You won't regret it!) If I could I would have just laid on the floor of the room, but instead sat in these comfy chairs. I knew the salt cave had it benefits for respiratory issues, but also mental health so I thought a little self care would be good! There were maybe a dozen of us in the room, with dim lighting, a fan and ocean wave noses to help neutralize the room noise. It was just the perfect chill vibe! Like if I could work in there, or whatever, that would be wonderful! Some of my friends struggled relaxing and staying still, but once I got in the zone I was set and in total zen. I read online to think about breathing before hand so you can start meditating right away which I did and would recommend to anyone! I definitely was relaxed! I actually fell asleep... It was guided, but had the perfect amount of guidance, but allowed us to breathe on our own and stating certain things on our own. Leaving, I could taste a little salt on my lips and hardly noticed the salt on my clothes. Over all it was a fun new experience. I'd love to go back, and potentially try yoga or one of their other classes. A little pricey for me to go back too often, but I thought how wonderful that would have been to do after finals week in college, or mid terms! Some swear by it, some call it fake, but I did leave feeling better. Very calm, but had energy (maybe the nap helped?), relaxed, a cleared mind, refreshed, and in a positive mind set. Went here again while I was in town, as I have been congested for over a month. I felt better within fifteen minutes! If you really focus on your breathing and get the salt particles deep into your lungs and sinuses (as the owner suggests), it clears things right up! The owner is so helpful and calming. I don't understand the reviews that say he is rude or uncomfortable, but whatever--to each their own! One of the best bonuses is that I am able to use my friend's package. She shares them with close friends and the salt cave allows this. What a generous business! I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to unwind, breathe better and clear their system. This place was pretty awesome. The "cave" is extremely chill. You recline in some comfy chairs and they give you these nice blankets to wrap up in. They had the sound of water dripping throughout the session to give more of that "cave" feel. It smelled really good in there and I definitely felt less congested after my visit. There are two reasons I'm giving it a 4 and not a 5: it was a little too cold in the "cave"--they needed to up the temp by a couple degrees; it's a little bit pricey for me. Was looking forward to this date with my husband as we always love to try new things. Unfortunately, we were less than impressed. Save your money and take a nap at home with the lights dim, your own soothing music and your salt lamp on. From the very beginning it was just a weird experience, the chairs were old and squeaky so not sure how you are suppose to relax not even being comfortable. Their was a blanket on the chair that has not been washed and used by many people that I was not about to wrap myself up in. Also plan to wear old clothes, we left there very dirty. read more

Step inside the Salt Cave of Darien and it is like nowhere you have ever been. The entire room is built of rocks and bricks of pink salt. The cave ceiling is a soothing sky of twinkling lights and the floor you walk on is a beach of pink Himalayan salt. Once in your reclining lounge the soothing music begins your mind slows and your body relaxes. If that overwhelming sense of calm, rest and repose is all the Salt Cave had to offer it would still be a treat but the health benefits for me have been far more. I went to the Salt Cave because my Pulmonologist at Sloan Kettering suggested I try it. She said several of her patients had found it helpful. I am now one of those patients. I am plagued with breathing issues. Like some sort of miracle my constant deep and relentless cough quiets and stays at bay for days after my weekly 45- minute visit. So if you are looking to breath easy, try the Salt Cave of Darien. From the moment you step in the door you are greeted with kindness and bathed in calm. Watch Out! - Very poor customer service leads to disputed charges I travel for business and have enjoyed many wonderful spa and massage experiences across the U.S. at boutique spas with unique features (like the Salt Cave). On Saturday morning, March 8, 2014 I took my sister to the Salt Cave to treat her to a massage and salt therapy session. We were running ten minutes late for a 10:00 a.m. appointment, and at 9:50 a.m. I called to let the receptionist know this. The Salt Cave was not yet open, but at 10:00 a.m. I received a call back from the owner who let me know that this lateness was going to be a problem and that I would be charged for the massages, but that I would not receive them. I was also told that because I was running late, we could not be admitted into the cave as there was another person in them, and it would disrupt them. "We will discuss it when you get here", he said. I told him we were on our way. When my sister and I arrived at 10:10 a.m. the owner looked at us walk through the door an emitted an audible exasperated sigh. He told us he just dismissed the two massage therapists and he would be charging us the full amount for the sessions, and used a lecturing tone to explain that we would not be admitted into the cave because we were too late and it would disrupt other people to let us in. I explained I did not want to inconvenience anyone with our lateness. As I work in client services I was truly shocked at his tone and attitude. We were two first time new customers and his demeanor towards us was one of complete irritation. Finally my sister asked if we might book into another time that day as he didn't proactively offer any solutions, only a scolding. By the end of our conversation, I was so disappointed and felt so unwelcome that I decided not to book us in later that day. It is very important to note that NONE of this strict lateness policy is made clear on the confirmation email, nor on the website. Even a doctor's office would not cancel an appointment if a patient called to explain they were running ten minutes late. The owner did not charge us for the salt session, but charged for the massages. I have called my credit card company to dispute the charges, as my sister and I did not receive the massages. In short, the Salt Cave's lateness policy is very rigid and prevented us from ever entering. I am sorry I missed the experience, however I only spend money at a spa or wellness center which offers excellence in treatment and customer service, along with upfront clarity in lateness policies. I've been to the Salt Cave a few times now and have mostly enjoyed the experiences. The sessions are very relaxing and I do leave feeling less congested for about an hour afterwards. Know that you get covered in a light coating of salt so wear something easily washable, and don't plan to bring your coat, purse, etc into the room with you. I haven't had any trouble with my iPod tucked into my pocket. The zero gravity chairs are lovely, although the room is always a bit cold. (Their website said something about the room being 74-76 degrees--I would say it's closer to 68-70, which feels cold when you're lying down and not moving.) I echo others comments about the awkward and sometimes poor customer service. I've always booked over the phone since I usually don't plan ahead, and reaching them via phone is extremely off-putting (not a good way to start out a business relationship!) Their phone system makes you announce your name before it will put your call through (this is offensive to your customers, seriously, you need to turn this feature off.) Once you do eventually reach a person, it seems to be a poor quality cell phone with lousy reception. Each time I've called I've mistakenly thought I reached the person in their car or someplace else. This is no way to run a business, and as I said it's offensive and off-putting to the very people you need to make a good impression with. Get a decent phone line and answer it in a respectful way. Once I've arrived at the Cave, the guy at the front desk is a little off-putting and not very welcoming--not what you'd expect for a place touting itself as a spa or therapy. I will be back because I enjoy the therapy, but I dread dealing with them. It seems to always be the same guy so I'm thinking he may be one of the owners. Keep your expectations low and you'll enjoy the session. read more

If you are anything like me, you thought this was a place you came to buy seasoning salt the first time you drove past. I drive down Nicollet on my way to and from work everyday and always drove past the Salt Cave. It's been about 2 years of driving by and since I had checked out their website and became a little more knowledgeable on the benefits of salt therapy, salt rooms, etc. I had a day off and decided to spend it on a much needed "treat myself" day. I am always down for a new experience and have been hearing so many wonderful things about salt rooms/lamps/etc. that I decided to give this a shot. I scheduled a time to come in for a 45 minute session online. The online scheduling system was really easy and I loved all of the options that were available. I don't have kids, but I was in love with the idea of kid play time in the cave. I also want to check into meditating or yoga groups in the cave also. Too much good stuff. Anyway, I arrived and did not have too many expectations beforehand mostly because I just didn't know what to expect. I arrived and the gentleman (owner?) working invited us downstairs and filled us in on what to expect. The ground is covered in loose salt, and the walls are covered in salt bricks, and the ceiling is ropes that the salt has attached itself to. Super interesting room. Ocean sounds were playing, and there was a wonderful smell in there. I don't know if it is just a scent that the salt gives off or if they put scents in there, but whatever it is I want as a perfume. I kept smelling my body the rest of the day because it had absorbed some of it. I spent my time in the Salt Cave meditating and focusing on my breathing. Mindfulness is important while in the salt cave to achieve relaxation. It was a neat new experience and I enjoyed it very much. It relaxed me which was exactly what I was needing that day. My skin also felt extremely soft afterwards too (added bonus). The session was 30.00, but they also have some packages as well. If you are interested in salt gear for home they sell salt lamps, boards, blocks, etc. that looked wonderful. read more

This is a cozy place to breathe in salty air for 45 minutes. I'll let you read more about it and the potential benefits at their website. I'm not going to get into that. What I'll tell you is that the "cave" is lovely & cozy. It's very relaxing, and I always feel energized after a visit. Easy to find & park storefront on Nicollet in south Mpls. It was my first time going to this place for meditation. I would love to try the guided meditation because I work better with it. But I enjoyed feeling my lungs and sinuses opening up. And I felt amazing afterwards when I finished. I will definitely go back. The people and the staff were all wonderful and welcoming and knowledgable! read more

My husband and I received gift certificates for Meditation/Salt Room time for a gift from my niece. At the beginning of October I went to schedule online as directed and there was literally one (yes, ONE) day and time for the rest of 2019 to schedule and that didn't work for us. I have now left 3 messages, 2 emails asking about it (before our certificate expires) and NO RESPONSE back via phone or email. Honestly, I'm not even sure the place is open outside of them having a voicemail. Anyways, very disappointed that I'm having to put in so much work just to get an appointment...wondering if this is even worth it! read more

What an amazing place! Wasn't sure what to expect going in. The owner was super helpful answering questions, giving us an introduction to the Salt Cave , explaining benefits etc. Great vibe. Definitely will try to go at least once a month. So grateful our city has such a gem. Try it!! read more
