I would give my massage and facial a 10 out of 10. The only thing that was poor taste is when my massage and facial was done. We went to the front to pay he told me the total. I was fine with it up to the part when told both he will decided the tip for my sister and I. We found that weird because a tip is a gratitude unless it written where it says there is a certain percentage for tips. Which I still disagreed, it was our intention to not tip them. My sister and I will be looking for another location for our massages. Over hearing with anyone else paying tips was not decided for them. So now I'm scratching my head and have me thinking was my race played a part. I felt a little awkward and disappointed. Been here many times before with the other gentleman never had this problem. And definitely will not be going back. Disappointing was a Birthday gift from my girls. He knew this so was it in his mind he thought we were not going to pay since my girls were not around. She really dug into all my knots too. I have major neck and back pains and I felt very light and energized afterwards. I'm not in as much pain as I was before the massage. if you're looking for a facility with a bunch of amenities, this is not the spot for you. if, however, you're looking for a place to get great quality of service for the price you're paying, this is it. $165 for an 80min hot stone massage, 30min facial, and 30min foot reflexology is truly a bang for your buck considering this spot is located in greenpoint. i had at first meant to book the package for a 60min massage/60min facial/30min foot reflexology but misspoke when i booked my apt and instead got the 80min hotstone/30min facial. my technician's name was alice and she did a really great job, i was like butter towards the end. the foot reflexology was a big reason why i had booked because i have plantar fasciitis that's just been getting worse lately but after she pressed all those pressure points my pain definitely lightened up by quite a bit. next time i'll be sure to book a 60min facial as the difference between that vs the 30min is that the 60min gets the extraction treatment and comes with a powder mask vs a sheet one but overall very relaxing and enjoyable experience for my first facial. the head/shoulder massage was also really wonderful. highly recommend pure qi spa, i will definitely be returning! read more

Similar to other reviewers, the owner tried to shame me into tipping more. I had a 40 minute foot massage, and left a $5 tip on $35 bill (just under 15%). The owner was obviously less friendly to me than he had been on arrival, which was annoying. Then when I got home, he actually phoned me -- saying he wanted to make sure the massage was ok and there were no quality issues. But the obvious implication was that I was supposed tip more if I had been happy with the service. This place needs to increase their prices and pay their workers better, and stop trying to pressure customers into tipping more - who wants to get guilt tripped at a spa - not me, and I won't be going back. read more

This is our second time getting a couple massage. We normally do the 60 minute deep tissue. I like that they are straight to the point and the massage is phenomenomal. I always feel so relieved each time. I do agree with the other reviewer that I smell the cigarrette smoke in the waiting area, I thought it was just the essence that they put on but now reading it I think its the cigarrette smoke. I called for same-day availability for a package deal and I basically needed to give a credit card over the phone to reserve the appt time...? Like I said I was an hour away by train. Anyways, I complied because I was already on my way there. I got the sea salt hour whole body scrub. It was definitely interesting. But good interesting. Was able to shower in the same room the service was given in. They used an oil with the service so I felt super oily while showering. After showering, they instructed me to leave the room so they can clean so I can get a facial in the same room but on a different table. Deluxe facial: definitely wasn't the best. There was on and off steaming and very little extractions. Service lady stepped away numerous times to get things ready which I felt took away from my hour facial. After coming home, I washed and toned my face and there was this yellow residue on my face. Unsure what product was used but would've been nice to be informed what was used at any given time. 40 mins foot massage was mediocre, comparing this one to the one I gotten in Chinatown, this was not up to par. Overall, not a bad value, this package was $130, I believe. I don't think I will be returning though. The ladies work hard here so tip appropriately please so I am giving 4 stars. read more

I love this place. I've been several times to get massages to relax but this last time I came in barley able to walk. I had pulled a muscle and hadn't healed in over a week... but an hour of deep tissue massage and the masseuse had HEALED ME. I felt (and still do) amazing. This place is low frills, no nonsense if you are looking for a badass massage. I should note that the deep tissue can be intense, so really figure out what you need before requesting this. I had to prove that a gift card was issued to me. Both in person and via the phone... I am black. I will start off by saying that I came to this Spa a year ago for my birthday after I was given a $200 Gift Card from my ex-boyfriend. I only used $85 of the $200 Gift Card. It expires in 2022. Despite it being a gift package I was forced to pay 20% gratuity upon my last visit. I always tip well but was not expecting to do so on my birthday when I was gifted a spa day. They would not take it out of my gift card balance. Fast forward a year later... I'm going through my gift card collection and I find that I still have $115 left to use on this card. I call them to schedule an appointment. Man on the phone asks for my gift card information. I give it to him. He tells me that I can schedule an appointment but first he must call me back. He calls my ex-boyfriend! Yes you read that right. MY EX-BOYFRIEND... That's dangerous! He needed to verify the gift card. WHAT?! I've already been to the spa and used the gift card previously. Of course I get contacted by my ex about the gift card. A number I thought I blocked. INSANITY. This is bad business! If you are reading this you probably think this is funny and part of me wants to laugh but the crazy thing is this could have been very dangerous for someone else. I thought so rejuvenated and relaxed after my hour long body massage. They were very flexible in changing my appointment time. I came in and said that I had a headache and they definitely concentrated on my neck area and head. Placing tiger balm around my neck left me refreshed as I walked home. I've visited and loved this place for years and am so attached to it -- I even have a pair of their spa slippers I wear at home. I go for the anti stress massage (at a great price) and have added hot stones and aromatherapy. The couples massage is good too. They are friendly and welcoming (even after I showed up late a bunch of times, I'm sorry about that!) and the experience has been consistently great, the space so cozy. This was a very weird experience. After checking in, I was seated in the back room and sat in one of the three seats and given hot tea to relax while my feet soaked in water (or oils?). Two minutes later they tell me that they thought I was someone else and was asked to sit back outside in their waiting room. Not sure why I couldn't just stay in that seat to relax for a few minutes more.. I never saw anyone else sitting there after I got up. During my services (I got one of the packages), I felt uncomfortable the whole time. And the walls didn't rise up to the ceilings so I could hear every footstep and every whisper while trying to relax. I had good pressure during my massage, but it was not relaxing at all. And the masseuse asked me about my nationality and whether I spoke Chinese and whether I'd been to China. WHAT DOES THAT MATTER?! When I was getting my massage while laying on my stomach, the masseuse massaged my butt. I have been to a lot of places (high end and sketchy) and I have gotten a massage and no one has ever massaged my butt - not even the sketchy places! I tried to just go with it but it was so unexpected and I couldn't relax. I got more tense. I came here after the kind of day that makes you drag your feet, zombie-like from fatigue. I booked an appointment over the phone that morning for a 'Day of Vitality' package, which is a 90 minute service consisting of any 30-minute massage and a 60 minute foot reflexology. I chose the head and face massage for the first half hour because another spa that offered the most delicious scalp massages shut down and I've been obsessing about it since. Street parking can be tough to find in the area if you're driving because of the alternate side rules and from the outside, Pure Qi looks humble and homely compared to some of the ritzier spas people may be used to. But don't let that deter you - as soon as you walk in, it is calm, peaceful, with just enough of the cheesy zen music to make your heart rate slow without making your eyes roll. It's the kind of environment that immediately makes you drop your voice to a whisper, and they seem to schedule their appointments sharply so that excess waiting-customer noise would be kept an absolute minimum, even with the fairly open floor plan. As soon as you arrive, they offer you slippers and I was ushered into the first massage room within a minute after putting them on. They set timers here to keep track of time, and it can be jarring when it beeps to signal the end of it, but what I liked about my masseuse (which I hope is true of all of them) is that she didn't immediately stop after it went off. I've been to other spas that would literally drop whatever limb they were working on as soon as their timers beeped, sang, or jangled, and the over-punctuality felt a little off-putting. None of that here; they use it for time management but they will finish when your services are completed. Quite frankly, the head and face massage was just okay. As soon my massage started, I immediately regretted not getting a back massage because she had strong hands that would have probably doctored my backside far better than my head and face, which felt like it was going to crack or rip from the pressure she sometimes placed on it. It wasn't relaxing and when it was over, I was glad for it. The reflexology, on the other hand...oh, where do I start? They seat you in a well-cushioned, reclining leather chair, where they first place your feet in a comfortably warm tub and wash your feet, which already had my eyes drooping. After that, I couldn't really tell you what happened during the next fifty minutes because I weaved blissfully in and out of sleep. I have had plenty of other reflexology sessions that were too light and felt like wasted money and others that were too painful that I stopped the massage early; this was the just-right foot massage that saved me from my Goldilocks dilemma. And to top things all off, the prices are terrifically reasonable, far better than what I've paid for lesser massages. I was in desperate need for a back massage not from my boyfriend, because let's face it - I force him to give me back massages, so he's not always enthusiastic. I came across this place after a bit of yelping and called to make an appointment for a Friday morning. How can you end the week better? (aside from having a few post massage cocktails) Being the thoughtful girlfriend I am, I reserved a couples massage, but when my boo thing informed me he'd be in a meeting at the only time they had available I had to change to a single reservation, because I wasn't about to pass up a deep tissue massage. At that very moment, I received a confirmation text from the spa and was able to text them back the change to my appointment. They informed me that normally they would need to be notified within 24hrs, but will make the exception. Confirmation texts! How cool is that? I showed up to my appointment 10 mins early and was brought in right away. (Note to staff: Get a shoe cubby so the shoes aren't on the floor.) I booked a 1 hr deep tissue full body massage, 30 min body scrub and a 40 min foot reflexology massage for a total of $130 - not bad. 1 hr deep tissue: Full body - meaning they WILL massage your butt. Don't feel weird - just go with it. Your butt is a muscle! I enjoyed the overall massage except I felt my masseuse (Nancy) didn't find my pressure points, she just kind of went with a usual style. 40 min foot message: One of the top highlights on their yelp page so I was expecting to fall into a deep sleep - but that wasn't the case. The recliner was incredibly comfy but the massage was very basic. 30 min body scrub: You can chose between lavender or ginger scented. I chose lavender and it smelled delish. The scrub felt great and they have you shower afterwards. The shower was very clean and equipped with body gel, shampoo and conditioner. There's also a hair brush and a dryer if you need it. The standing shower is located in a couples massage room which I of course had to myself while I showered. The only odd thing I experienced was the payment at the end - which seems to be a hot topic in their reviews. The guy up front asked if I could take out cash versus paying with card. I told him I get charged fees from my bank and he told me he'll give me cash for the fees as long as I paid cash because it benefits them. So I took out cash from their ATM. We usually do the 90-minute Pure Qi signature massage (classic, not deep tissue). It's a 5-star spa massage (or even better) for a great price. The therapists start by applying detox pads to your feet, then proceed with the massage at a perfect pressure that propels you into a 90-minute zen mode. In addition to the massage being stellar, the front desk is very accommodating. The space is very clean, quiet, and peaceful, but you don't get the "ceremony" that very high-end spas provide (i.e. hotel spas that have ornate locker rooms, fruit platters, etc.). They truly focus on the quality of the massage. When you call for an appointment, they ask if you'd like a male or female therapist to ensure you're comfortable. I did the Pure "Qi" Detoxifying spa package with the hot stone massage add-on and a 70 minute deluxe facial treatment. Body Wrap (60 Minutes) -This was my first time getting a body wrap but it was amazing. They gave me disposable underwear which was nice. They paint your entire body with Dead Sea mud and then after wrap you in a thermal blanket. This also includes a head and face massage which was very relaxing. I definitely recommend trying this if you haven't already. Anti-Stress Massage with hot stone add on (60 min) - My masseuse was Nancy and she had some really strong hands. This is a full body massage which targets your entire back, arms, legs and butt. I think you shold have a high pain tolerance for this one because it did hurt at times but she asked me throughout the massage if she was going too hard. There was a lot of pressure involved but I would definitely go back for a full hot stone massage. Acne Facial (70 min) - So, I originally signed up for the Dry and Dehydrated Skin treatment but after she looked at my face, she recommended the acne treatment. She started by massaging my face with a treatment (felt like lotion), then used a vacuum and steam on my face. After, she started actual cleaning my face with tools, felt like a needle but it didn't hurt too much. Then she prepped my face for a mask. While the mask was setting, I received a scalp massage. My face looked so much brighter and clean after. I was really happy with it. Foot Reflexology Therapy (40 min) - To save time, I received my foot reflexology while I was getting my facial and it was really relaxing. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to everyone and would come back again to try to the body scrub and the Hot Stone Massage. Came in for my birthday - got the pure qi package. The massage was average, barely any pressure and no attempt to get my knots out. Nothing that relaxed me at all. Just light strokes down my back. Body scrub was ok and just someone slathering on sea salt,'it was weird because she waited for me to get up and watched me shower. Foot rub was terrible. The masseuse looked annoyed and tired. Her eyes kept closing. She was rubbing my feet with her pinky knuckle and I kept asking her for more pressure. She kept looking at the time clock to see how much time she had remaining - annoying and rude. She then put a scalding hot towel on my feet to wipe and I was burnt. Pure Qi exceeded our expectations and we are excited to be back. The front desk guys are super nice and very friendly. They're very responsive online and on the phone, and are very upfront about pricing, packages, etc. Pure Qi is located on the bottom floor of a building; the space isn't huge but the massage booths/rooms are adequately spaced out. They have a private room with two massage beds for couples massages. They provide you with clean slippers and towels, as well as some water and candy. Well, as we all know, 2020 so far has been an extremely stressful year. I was so happy to see that Pure Qi finally opened its doors AND is providing great, safety COVID procedures to ensure a comfortable and (always) wonderful massage. I treated myself and my experience did not disappoint. The massage therapists all were wearing face masks and face shields. As a client, you have to wear a face mask upon entry and during your massage/service. The towels are now replaced with disposable, white medical sheets (totally fine and didn't bother me). There is an abundance of hand sanitizer and they also check your temperature upon entry. After each customer, they really sanitize and clean the rooms/area very diligently. After service, they provide a cold water bottle for you to hydrate (as opposed to their water cooler pre-COVID). Pure Qi also did some very nice renovations during the mandatory business shut down. New floors. More wall dividers to keep people at a distance from one another. And new decor. Overall, service was great and I felt safe. So happy they are back! My hour massage was probably one of the few highlights on this year's list. read more

I am thrilled to say I had my first massage since March, and it was everything I could have hoped for and more. They have renovated to meet the new COVID safety protocols.
