I am also confused on how to keep track of it all to purchase what my hubby and I need. For those who figure it out there are rewards in the way of accessing via The Chef's Farm wonderful local produce grown with sustainable and organic farming practices as well as, in 2020 at least, completed meals and finished food products that could be delivered to your door. PRODUCE FOR DAYS: This is the farmer Christian making it happen via his farm in Dry Creek Valley. As in the outstanding lettuces, really at the top of the list for best of our 40 years of cooking together at home, that we bought from The Chef's Farm for a couple of weeks via the Saturday morning Boise Farmers Market in Summer 2020 until Christian stopped selling via that market. But I think The Chef's Farm is set up to sell at a sometimes pop up Farmers Market in the Hyde Park neighborhood on Saturdays if one can find that outlet for this excellent produce of all kinds. For a while earlier on The Chef's Farm did a sort of CSA box too and may be doing it again (?). And in 2021 there is a subscription service for fresh microgreens for which the only downside may be they are packaged in greater quantity than can be consumed even by two devoted daily greens eaters. Still, a very good thing. Check the website to see what the plans might be for 2021 for any or all of these services. And as produce - farm aside, not only does Christian grow some of the most remarkably delicious carrots we have eaten, he creates some of the most incredibly delicious dishes with carrots as focal point...and we say this as people for whom carrots have never been a "thing" until Christian's dishes provided revelation. Which leads to the next point. MMMM...ARVELOUS FINISHED FOOD DISHES: At times it is chef Christian Phernetton at work via The Chef's Farm to create finished food dishes including complete meals ready to heat and plate and eat which we were able to order and savor in the last half of 2020. After the 2020 holiday season this service paused. If started again we will use it again as provided remarkable meals from this "Chef with Chops". Keep in mind Christian has impressive background as a chef in the DC and Bay Areas at fine restaurants in those locales and was the inaugural chef at Boise's acclaimed Camel's Crossing...where his Carrot Steak was a diner favorite and as aside I'll say his lamb cassoulet was the best dish even to now that I have been served in any Boise eatery. ( Camel's Crossing closed early in pandemic months.) You'll see my photos on this page for the great way in which The Chef's Farmmeals were delivered to homes on Fridays and Saturdays. (In Eagle where I live for a mere $7). My husband and I also appreciated that the weekly menus included options for omnivores and vegetarians alike. Also that in this service Christian remained true to the sustainability practices he embraces (we do too) and delivered the meals in reusable glass vessels which he also picked up as part of that minimal charge for delivery. It wasn't only our bodies that felt well fed by Christian's work but our consciences too. Every purchase we make reflects our values. GIFTS NO LESS: During the holiday season - and maybe at other times - The Chef's Farm website listed things like condiments and holiday boxes that one could order to give to friends and neighbors. It was a great way to delight food centric people and people who support small local food producers. We purchased these too in 2020. FIGURING IT OUT IN 2021: As we determine what is being sold by The Chef's Farm in 2021 that is in a venue and format that we can use for our home kitchen we will happily remain customers. The family grows and cultivates fresh herbs, freeze dried and fresh organic eggs, and take really good care of their animals. First, we saw their barn, then walked to the cows, then to their orchard, then two chicken coops, and then we met and pet the Goats (my son loved Pongo the best! ), qnd then saw Alpacas. Overall, my family and I loved it! We wanted to stay longer! Sweet family and maybe if they start up a Bed n Breakfast, we would love to stay.

Looking at this Yelp page I was surprised to see reviews, some not flattering, dating back to the 2010 - 2012 era for the same business name at this location but that one closed, years ago it seems, and this is now new ownership and focus but the same business name. Recalibrating. As it were. My first visit in had me eager to go back again as new place wobbles get worked out and the growing season allows them to bring in more local produce. They have what is available in that now and for the other produce they stock it is all organic so works for me! WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE SERVICE: I'll mention product below, but what stood out for my husband and me on this visit was what nice people work here, how helpful everyone is and how much one feels a good spirit of welcome and care in the space. Delightful. PRODUCTS: Produce, flours and grains from local mill, local honeys (the one we chose from Panoptic Apiary in Middleton is excellent), local poultry and beef in a freezer case, dairy (including raw milk if that's your thing) in a dedicated refrigerator case and another with things like a variety of really good salsas, house made guacamole, jarred sauerkraut and...the list goes on. They had Symms cherries, the first of the season's crop, in the store and they are excellent. I picked up some other produce to round out what I needed at home, most of it not local farm grown at this point in the year but all of it fresh and organic. I'm hopeful they'll be able to expand to bring in some farmers, like those who are at the Boise Farmer's Market, to round out their local produce offerings. Gaston's Bakery bread was on a rack and I learned the baker delivers to them daily. They were giving away flowers from a local grower and said they would have more coming in to sell in the store. The flower farm name was Sunny Stems (Caldwell ID) and on the card that came with the flowers, I loved that the owner, Ineke Severa, identifed herself as "grower & dreamer". HEALTHY AND SWEET TREAT SURPRISE!: There is a 'Smoothie' sign above the check out counter and given I have never learned to appreciate those, I didn't study it but then just as I was leaving I saw the sign alongside for a frozen banana whip sweetened with dates. I am a sucker for dates so I ordered one with optional fresh strawberry topping. It was dee-licious and even in the smallest size (only $4 for 9 oz), it was shareable by two. I would go back just for one of these again. PARKING: Ample amount in private lot. ACCESSIBILITY: There is an spot marked with wheelchair emblem paint in the lot near the door but it is not compliant with state building code or ADA because the striped access aisle is on the wrong side of the vehicle. I pause here for a little venting, I don't know who owns the lot but for Pete's sake, there have been crystal clear guidelines in both the ADA law and code for what will be 36 years next month and how this is gotten wrong is beyond understanding. It makes a big difference to people who use wheelchairs and it is embedded in law and code for a reason. That the city of Boise allows these things to go uncorrected is maddening because it is their job to enforce the Access Building Code, including in parking lots. End of vent. Other than that the inside is fully accessible for floor space and check out counter height. LOO: There is one so you can plan accordingly if you want to order a pot of their French Press coffee that was listed on a board. I heard Marina say once something that was roughly this; farming is good for the family and family farming is good for the world. I'm paraphrasing, but I wanted to say "Amen" to that and also to thank her because it certainly is good for the local community. ACCESSIBLE FARM STORE FOR PRE-PICKED FRUIT: It was buying their dried sour cherries from other vendors in the area, both Peaceful Belly's farm store and McIntyre Farm store that introduced me to Cherry Hill. Visiting the farm for the first time in maybe 2019, they had only portable tables set up in a deep gravel over dirt lot and given I have mobility disabilities (I have had multiple sclerosis since college) that make it beyond difficult to walk through that, I was disappointed to not be able to get from parking to the product on tables. Fast forward a few years and they now have built a small farm store on site and although they still have that gravel over dirt lot, they did observe ADA minimums to pour a cement apron on one side of the store with a single parking spot there which makes it possible for all people to get into the farm store on solid surface and shop for sour dried cherries , sour fresh cherries, cherry juice, apples, pears, apricots, nectarines and peaches in their various seasons. U-PICK OPTIONS: U-Pick is offered through all the various seasons. Check Cherry Hill's Facebook page or Web page or call them to be sure they are open when you want to do and what is growing to be picked. DID YOU SAY DONUTS?: the surprise for us as we stocked up on dried cherries, apples, pears and O'Henry peaches a couple of weeks ago was to learn they have fresh made cinnamon sugar donuts at some times. We managed to buy the last half dozen, how they are sold, and came home to share them with the men who mow our lawn and we all thought they were great. SPECIAL EVENTS FALL AND SPRING: There is a corn maize and pumpkin patch in the fall from late September through October 31, so it is going on as I write this review, with special activities for children. In the Spring they hold a cherry festival. With cherry trees and the other fruit trees in blossom at different times, it really is a beautiful place to visit then. NEIGHBORS TO VISIT ON A DAY TRIP: *If you're in Caldwell to visit Cherry Hill, I recommend a visit to Peaceful Belly Farm which is also home to a Cidery. They serve lunch and dinner in their on site cafe on some Thursdays through Sundays during the Spring into Winter. Check their website for more information. It is very special to eat there, you can walk through the farm, and they have an onsite farm store selling their produce and that of neighbors, like Cherry Hill.
