I am so sad, and know that I will be for quite a long time , so to ease the pain a bit and help me to stay busy and keep my mind off of losing her, my very beautiful friend decided we should go to Peaceful Belly Farm and relax, have some delicious food, be in nature and around positive people with a beautiful ambience. Of course Peaceful Belly delivered as always. We decided to have a gorgeous glass of Viogner, and thought it would be nice to split a few of the dishes to share. We started with the spinach dip bread bowl, with farm, fresh spinach mixed with a three cheese blend served in a Acme sourdough loaf. The dip was so yummy, creamy and heartwarming, and there were so many layers of flavor. It was just the right amount of salty and the texture was wonderful. It was served in an Acme sourdough loaf which is always delicious. They cut up the top portion of the bowl into small pieces so that we could easily dunk the bread into the dip. It was the perfect way to start the meal. I don't think there was much left of that when all was said and done. The second dish that we decided on together was the deviled eggs. They were beautiful, fresh, farm eggs that were nice and cold and the yolks were whipped beautifully with dill and garlic filling. Garnished on top of the eggs they served this insane, brown sugar, caramelized McIntyre bacon. There were some gorgeous, delicate, yellow, edible flower petals on top which took it over the top aesthetically. They were perfect. It was a serving of four and it was just enough for my friend and I. Last but not least, we had a dish made from homemade chorizo from the James Beard nominated Chef, Dan Ansot of Ansot's Basque restaurant in downtown Boise. It was phenomenal. Made with warm saffron stew that had carrots and sweet pepper, onion and garlic on a creamy polenta base topped with his Basque chorizo and grilling cheese (which is one of my favorite cheeses ever!) It was spicy and so complex. We really enjoyed this dish tremendously. Our server Kayla was wonderful. She checked up on us often, but not too often to make sure that we were enjoying everything and asked if we wanted more wine. The dishes came out in a timely manner and we enjoyed ourselves tremendously. The atmosphere is gorgeous set in an open space full of greenery and flowers and food growing all about the property, not to mention all of the gorgeous black and white sheep that are grazing peacefully around the restaurant outside. It was a perfect day with a perfect friend with perfect weather and really helped me to set aside the sadness I felt from losing my sweet little fur baby, even if just for a little while. The inside is impeccably clean and a bright open space with plenty of tables. They have a ton of gorgeous dry flowers from all over the property hanging gracefully from the ceiling and they always have fun artwork hanging on the walls. I will always return. They do a good thing for the community and they have a gorgeous space with beautiful food and people. Thank you for helping me through my grief. See you soon!

Introduced to Richardson Family Farms' remarkably good organic strawberries as available in 2 lb…read more flats in early September at the Boise Co Op by friend Carl Y and his wife, my husband and I found these fragrant, perfectly ripe, super delicious gems to be the best strawberries of the season. That they were local and organic and harvested so late in the summer intrigued us enough to seek out Richardson's in Emmett and pick our own. WORKING MEDITATION There is a sort of meditation involved in being in a place like this doing the work of picking berries. The only sounds were the wind rustling plants, the click of grasshopper wings in flight, the buzz of yellow jackets seeking out the fruit over-ripe and the upbeat voice of brother talking to sister in the next field as they picked berries for the market. Add in the aroma of the berries as warmed by the sun, it was a pretty sweet experience all around. THE DRILL The drill here to pick is pretty informal. When they see your car pull in, one of the folks who work on the farm (we met both the owner and his son) will ask if you're there to pick, give you a box for the berries and point you in the direction of the plants with the most ripe fruit. The owner even gave my hubby a strawberry picking tutorial, how to recognize the perfectly ripe ones from those that seem ready but aren't quite yet. When you're done, they'll weigh your boxes and tell you what a ridiculously little amount of money is owed. WEEDING FOR BERRIES The owner told us for folks who want fresh berries but who feel they cannot afford to buy them, he is happy to trade their work to help weed the rows for berries in return. Nice barter system it seemed to us. Work for food. THANKS TO FARMERS My strawberry picking days are in the rear view mirror due to limits introduced by MS but I had a lot of experience in my youth and enjoyed supervising my hubby's first time efforts! He thought it was fun for an agricultural excursion day and enjoyed every minute of his couple of hours. But he also recognized it would be back breaking to pick berries for a living. We both took a moment to tell the Richardson Farm family members who were doing that work, this is truly a family operation in the fields as the owner has more than a dozen children,, how much we value being able to simply swing by the Co Op to buy their fine berries because of their work. It was a verbal hug of America's family farmers of whom we think good thoughts all the time. CO-OP AVAILABILITY If you're planning on buying via the Co Op the berries should be available there at times into October. The folks we met at the farm went out of their way to say how much they appreciated having the Co Op as their partner. THIS N THAT: 1) PRICE: If you want a true appreciation for what a fair price is on these flats of berries at the Co Op, venture out and pick for a couple of hours and consider the cost to the farmer to organically grow them, pick them, package them and transport them to market. Then consider the cost of the Co Op to put them up for sale. 2 lb. flats at Co Op are $7.95, so just under $4.00 / pound. If you compare to the most commonly available CA Grower (Driscoll) for organic berries pound for pound, these locals are a lower cost. If you pick your own at the farm, they cost a mere $1.50 / pound. Factor in the cost of travel to get to Emmett and the opportunity cost for your time, that Co Op price is a bargain too! 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Hard packed, gravel covered pathway. Neither porta-pot is accessible. 3) OTHER FRUITS AND VEGGIES: Sometimes available. Yesterday they included cherry tomatoes, Armenian cucumbers and Italian prune plums. 4) CONTACT INFO & GETTING THERE: If you plan to venture out, the farm is a little tough to find. Today was my first time at this location. Went to the REKO-Nampa location a few weeks ago. Noticed some of the same vendors at both locations. When you arrive you really have to pay attention as there are not a ton of vendors (at least, not yet) and vendors sell out of the back of their vehicles. I had a difficult time at both identifying who I bought from online. Here's the 411 on vendors I bought from in Nampa and Meridian. The Meridian location has 5.6k members (so, I hope to see this market grow) The Nampa location has 1k+ members Wufyre Coffee Roasters Offers two types of coffee. I got the Sumatra. The aroma filled my car all the way home. Took everything I had not to make a cup pdq. Saving it for tomorrow morning. Steele Legacy Honey & Crafts Bought their Wild Sweet Clover Honey. They have two types in various sizes, along with beeswax, honey butter and honey sticks. Didn't check out the crafts. I'm a big fan of using local honey - good for your health. They had a separate vehicle for dairy products, too. Not sure if these two are connected though. Hipwell Ranch Wanted to order meat from them, but I waited too late. All natural and grassfed. Challah Bread Home Svetlana's challah bread, cinnamon bread and pocket cookies are the bomb! Made french toast out of the cinnamon bread - and wow. Groves Country Mushrooms Family farm of 4th generation farmers. Their mushrooms inspired me to buy the mushroom cookbook they sell and get the 'mixed' bag of mushrooms. I don't know much about it and this is my first step into learning all about it. I made a mushroom sauce with my mixed bag and it was so good. Housewife at Heart Miranda had take & bake items and tamales. I just bought her Chicken & Potato tamales today. Can't wait for dinner tomorrow night! Ohana No-till Farm I got all kinds of salad items from them, plus their raspberry jam. Note: To order from them, go to their web site, ohananotillfarm.com, NOT the Facebook page. They delivered it to my house at no charge! Don't know if they do this all the time, but BONUS! These are the only vendors I've bought products from (so far) - not to say the others are probably amazing, too. This is a wonderful way to support our local businesses and get fresh and healthy food, too. Many do appreciate if you pay in advance of pick-up - most use Venmo. They list payment options and such in their weekly posts. Do note: Covid pre-cautions are not being followed by most vendors or customers. No one is hassling each other for it. Most are following the 6 feet apart recommendation.

Morels and huckleberries in season. And they now have cold beverages on hand! I am always sad when they close for the winter, and look forward to late spring when they open again. Thom and his employees are really nice folks, and will even carry your stuff to your car if you want. If it is not growing in my garden, I buy it here!
