It is clean. And it is full of people focused on lifting. I was a bit overwhelmed with the variety of equipment, but that variety is a really good thing. You can find any piece of equipment you have ever used, and if you are not super picky, you never have to wait. Really a nice setup. Chris, the owner, is often present, and seems very available through email and txt. Certainly keeps the place running well, and given his experience, he is surely a valuable resource. I was a little put off by the political and religious signs; I want to work out, not get riled up. But, I never heard any religious or political discussions, and so none of that got in the way of my workout.

The people who work at Raintree often remember my name, welcome me in, and help with any issues that come up for me. The people who work out here come in a range of ages and body types, and are friendly and thoughtful about helping keep the space nice for whoever is coming in next. The space is well organized into sections that feel private and very functional. The yoga space is very zen. There are a few hangout areas that include couches, or tables and chairs, and feel very home like. The recovery room is quiet and dimly lit. There are several spaces with weights and weight machines and each have their own personality. The track is perfectly located to make it easy to include the sled and/or a warm up or cool down lap along with weight lifting. The vibe is consistent and reminds me of being in a spa. Not hooty tooty, but rather, like I have a rich friend who has invited me over to their gym and is glad I've come over! The gym always smells nice and fresh, is clean and welcoming, and has good music on at exactly the right volume. It's easy to walk around as the paths to places are well delineated. And, I always feel like I belong. The offerings, responsiveness and community all resonate deeply with me. Currently I am focusing on prepping for the DEKA, and Raintree has classes, trainers and the equipment I need to prep for this. I am also working on becoming more centered and lowering my cortisol, and the yoga classes and sound bath class are really helping me achieve better sleep, less stress and more feeling connected to my body and heart than I have in a very long time. The variety of equipment and my amazing personal trainer, Kelly, have helped me achieve so many of my personal fitness goals without getting injured, including a 4 day back pack trip with some girlfriends while carrying 40 pounds. I am currently working with Kelly to compete in my first DEKA and to do a pull up. I will leave you with one last example to demonstrate the extra mile this amazing space goes to to help me meet my personal goals as well as to feel very cared for. The other day I came in and asked Chad how I could measure out 100 meters so I could practice for the DEKA. He told me he would measure it out for me. So literally, I went to my yoga class and he got my spaces all measured out and ready to go!

Sorry but this gym is getting…read moreovercrowded and nobody who works here seems to want to clean shit or even fill the steam room bottle even when it's sitting outside empty. Take a hint people and also maybe pick up trash and hair and all the gross crap that's laying around the pool area and the gym and the locker rooms. And maybe get some air fresheners in the locker rooms they smell like a sweaty a-hole.

He has taken the time to talk with our son's coaches, watched videos and even came to watch him compete so that he could understand what the sport of figure skating is all about. Alex has customized our son's workouts to target the areas that he needs to be extra strong in, all while being careful not to bulk him up. The results are apparent and have helped our son stay healthy and take his skating to the next level. If you have a student athlete, or are an athlete yourself, I highly recommend this gym. I can't say enough good things about Jordan, Caleb, Thomas, Ryan and Riley. All the other coaches seem great too, but those are the ones I and my son interacted with the most. My teenager really enjoyed the classes--learning to push himself, develop new skills, and eventually, as he got into the adult classes, sparing. I wasn't interested in sparing or rising the ranks--which there is a lot of opportunity to do at McMahon. For me, however, it was more about physical fitness and trying something out of my comfort zone, and I was welcomed just the same. I really appreciate that they take students at whatever place they are and foster an environment open to all varieties of goals and abilities. There is also a growing women's group that's very welcoming and inclusive. Overall, a great place!

Visited ascent for my birthday this month. My daughter and I normally climb at genesis and wanted…read moreto try something new. When you go in if its your first time thy will make you watch a safety video, but we couldn't even hear it?? So was not totally sure of the point of the video. If you know how to belay, you will need to take a belay test in order to prove your knowledge and then they will mark it in their computer that they have tested you. You also have to do something to be able to use the auto belay but we didn't do any of those so i am not sure what you need to do. They have special clips that you will need to get from the front though to be able to use them. They had 60 ropes with around 120 different climbs and a large bouldering section. This was place was pretty impressive. Though ropes were a little close to each other and there was a LOT of people when we were there. The staff was friendly. Overall we enjoyed our experience. It was a little expensive. $18 a person and that is without gear rental. Hence the 4 stars. It was fun for a treat though and i will probably be back in the future

Pros : -Climbing options were good. There are a large variety of ropes to choose from. -There are 4 autobelay options I believe -There is also a lead climbing area. -Of course there is also a bouldering area which seemed like quite a few choices, but they were busy working on it today so there was not much of it open to use. -They have some sinks out by the climbing wall so you can go wash your hands and not have to take off all your gear in order to wash your hands. Cons: -Price! holy smokes $46 for me and my daughter climb for 2 hours. Yikes!!! this is more than i pay for my gym membership for my entire family for a month......... That does not include gear rental either as we have our own so we didn't need any of theirs. If you want or need gear it will be more. -You will need to fill out the waiver upon entering not a big deal but their ipad system makes it a little tough to get through. -If you want to do more than bouldering you will need to take a test for top rope and also watch a video for autobelay. Okay fairly standard. However, they failed to mention until after I paid that 1. they were working on the bouldering wall so not much available there. 2. The guy couldn't leave the front desk and no one else was available so can't do the auto belay training either If a good chunk of things are not going to be an option and obviously we are not a regular maybe make sure you let people know BEFORE they pay. We did do the top ropes test. It will take between 5-15 minutes depending on you. I just felt jipped because we did not have the option of using anything and I paid what I felt like was a LOT of money! They could have at least told me upfront that hey you wont be able to use the auto belay and a lot of our bouldering is tore up so probably can't use a lot of that either. I may have made a different decision and went elsewhere. Anyhow. I guess my impression from last time 2 years ago about to this time was not much different.

Whetstone Climbing is a new climbing gym in the Fort Collins/Loveland area. The facilities are…read moremodern and there is a very ample amount of space for sport climbing, bouldering, and working out. I very much enjoyed my experience at Whetstone and I thought the service and amenities were good. The overall setting was decent. Expect slightly stiffer ratings than other gyms in town but still not overly so. One slight concern I had if I were a regular would be the route turnover- it did not seem to be the same as Ascent, the other gym in town and routes stayed up a bit longer. I think the setting at Ascent is maybe a little better but it's hard to really tell given I only climbed 8 sport routes here vs. years at Ascent. The rates seem fair. $17 for a day pass is cheaper than superior gyms down in Denver. Membership rates seem about the same as Ascent and if I were living in Fort Collins, I'd likely just go to whichever gym was closer to where I lived. The community is friendly and I thought the idea of a bar/coffee area is smart. Definitely hope that Whetstone succeeds as a gym.
