I don't usually do reviews but I had to for this! First off, the price was not bad at all for 3 of us especially going on a Monday. Mark was wonderful, gave great instructions, super helpful. The room seems to start slow but picks up and stays interesting, and he didn't give hints too early or too frequent so we still had a challenge but didn't get extremely frustrated when we were stuck. I hope I can do another room again there soon. I live out of town but visit often to see family and I love finding activities like this to do! read more

I booked three rooms for a large and chaotic group of 15 family members, and the folks at Puzzle Effect Bend did a great job helping me coordinate it all! I was able to schedule all three rooms for the same time slot over the phone, which was awesome. So much fun! We have been twice now when visiting family in Bend and each time has been a total blast! This last time we did the Grimm Stacks puzzle and our game master was Mark. Incredible! We played two rooms today. The first was Grim Stacks which was so immersive; we felt that we had been transported to the magical world of witches and wizards! There were even some props available for us to wear to rep our house colors while we played. ‍ The two of us solved the room with time to spare. It was a good challenge! Our game master, Kore, was awesome and really hyped us up for our victory! We loved it so much, we booked a second room for later in the day! On Kore's recommendation, we played Curse on the Emerald Seas, their most difficult room. It was indeed challenging, but we still managed to return the captain's heart to break the spell and escape before sinking to a watery grave! Highly recommend this place for adventures of any age and experience level! read more

If you truly want to test the strength of your friendship , go to an Escape room with your friends . We decided to do this on a whim as the weather did not permit much else at the time . It was easy to reserve online and when we arrived we were able to start a little earlier than the schedule and thank god ! Boy were we a couple of slow snails in the beginning . None of us had done an escape room before and not surprisingly for us we picked a hard challenge. So initially it took us some time and lots of hints to get in the groove but once we found it, the fun began . The room is smallish and divided into sections and there is a screen with hints . The staff I guess watches you and gives you hints when needed . I found the second room a tad bit confusing especially because there were parts of the puzzle that you had to go back to the first room to solve and we would have never guessed that if not for the hints. And the hints by the way are still in the first room so it was a lot of back and forth and yelling from the two rooms to solve towards the end. The staff is friendly and helpful and ensured we had a great time . I know we ran out of time but they still let us finish which I really appreciate. I would highly recommend them for a fun time if you are in Bend. read more

First off, I just want to talk about the escape room itself. All the clues and puzzles were so detailed and difficult (in a good way, of course)! I went to Grim Stacks with a group of 7 besties, and it was so fun getting to work together to solve it. I can't describe how great it was screaming with them all after solving each puzzle. If you go to Puzzle Effects, please be prepared to have the time of your life. But that's not even the best part. When we got stuck, our guide, Cora, I believe (if you see this review, you're awesome and we love you!!!), carefully helped us through without giving away the answers and supported us when we were struggling (she deserves a raise). When we finally got out, we had 20 seconds remaining. Cora took a picture of all of us after congratulating us. I haven't had such an adrenaline rush since I rode the Extreme Scream at the fair. My friends and I had a great time. It's honestly an experience I will never forget. Please give Puzzle Effects Bend as much support as our guide gave us during the game. Wow these guys r ally bring the challenge. Such a great room we did the pirate challenge. There were four of us and we got close but we lost!! That room has something like a 40% success rate. They have one with a 12% if you can imagine. The people are friendly the setup was great and even though this was the fourth place I'd done a puzzle room none of the puzzles were familiar. We had the greatest time here! Our very first escape room was with Puzzle Effect several years ago, when we visited Bend. When we recently came back on vacation, we looked them up again and their new location is awesome! There were 4 of us - myself (mom), dad, 14 year old daughter and her 14 year old BFF. We did the Sideshow room which we loved! A little help and we escaped with seconds to spare. We would definitely recommend this room - so so so many cool puzzles!!! One of the best escape rooms we have done. A few somewhat easier puzzles and some pretty tricky parts, but most were right in that sweet spot of pushing you to the edge and then getting that AHA! moment that makes you want to do a little happy dance! We had so much fun we went back the next day and did "The Curse On The Emerald Seas" room. For us, this one didn't work out quite as well as the first room did. The puzzles were extremely difficult and none of us seemed to be able to "think that way" and logically connect the dots. We needed a ton of help to push us along and they gave us extra time, but we managed to finally escape. This room is for the true puzzle masters!! ‍ We realized we should have tried "Grim Stacks," but we were leaving the next day (and couldn't afford another 4 person room). Oh well ‍ Our next trip to Bend will definitely include another visit to Puzzle Effect! One of the best parts about this facility, compared to the many other escape rooms I have done, is the way they give you clues. I've experienced rooms where you have to ask for help (and feel bad that you need to), or where you can only ask for help so many times, or where the help doesn't really help ... The wonderful people at the Puzzle Effect really watch your progress and offer help at exactly the right times. Just when you are about to give up you hear that noise and POOF help appears in the magical mirror They start out by just nudging you in a direction you are missing, then they offer slightly more specific ideas, and if you still just CANNOT GET IT they help you enough to continue on. I absolutely love that their motto is "It's all about having fun!" They understand that it's not a lot of fun if you get so frustrated by a single puzzle you cannot enjoy yourselves! That will never happen! Plus, they let you take your cell phones in there so you can take pictures of your experience. I mean, why would you spend your valuable money and time just to cheat? They get that concept and you know that they are there solely to make this the best experience for everyone. We all left wishing we could do the rest of the rooms! We also thought it would be a blast to work there - and reminisced about the many times we knew they must have been totally laughing with us (and at us) Thank you Puzzle Effect for some truly EXCELLENT fun and awesome memories! I guess our family is spoiled by the Olympia Escape Room which was so well done. Our family came here while on vacation and were really disappointed. The room was set up in a way that not everyone could be working on something, we had to all work on the same puzzle/clue every step of the way. Which meant we just hovered over a few people working on the puzzle. In other rooms at other businesses, we all had a chance to showcase our strengths and then come together as a team to solve the puzzle together. There were a lot of decorations in the room as props that had nothing to do with the game, which is unlike most escape rooms we have been too. If you haven't ever done other rooms then I could see why you might like this one, not knowing any different. But if you have done others which have more clues, and more for each person to do, this place will disappoint, specifically the Crimson room. We will most likely not be back. read more

This weekend, a group of four of us went to puzzle effect. It was a great experience until we solved the puzzle 10 steps early. This was due to the final piece of the puzzle being unlocked, in an open box. This ruined our experience. We paid for the full experience and were not offered a refund. I tried to be crafty and think of picking the room that would be the easiest for my group but I was sure wrong. We literally were on the very last lock as the timer went off and the bomb exploded. Talk about really cutting it close. The clues were hard to solve and it was super dark in the room so you definitely felt like real detectives. For my first ever escape room experience I feel like it really hit the mark. I was running on only about 3 or 4 hours of sleep so I probably wasn't that much help to the group as I got caught up on one lock for the longest time only to figure out I was on a wild goose chase. But the clues and puzzles were super clever and I definitely made really great memories with my coworkers. read more

My partner and I did their Sideshow room and had a great time! The story was really fun and the right amount of spooky, and the puzzles had enough variety that we had to think creatively. I'd say we have a lot of experience with puzzles and we solved Sideshow with 7 minutes to spare, so it felt like a good level for us. We went as a couple on a Saturday afternoon and had a good time. The staff was friendly and helpful. I've never done an escape room so this was a good first experience. They kept the temperature very cool which is nice in the Arizona summer. We did the pirate room (forgot the actual name) and it was set up nicely. Five of us, two adults, youngest eleven. And while maybe this shouldn't be the point, the adults contributed nothing, I mean NOTHING. That said, we all had a blast. Simple, smallish room with clues all for the finding. We'll set-up, engaging. You feel like you are so close, but we didn't make it out in time. They provide clues (thank god) every ten minutes. We walked out having the last two clues solved for us by the staff person who came in at the end of hour. Well organized, interesting plot and clues to go with. Not an easy solve, but in retrospect all doable if we had more time and were brighter. Lol. Thankfully we brought kids with us. Would definitely do again. read more

So at first I was like... meh it's just a small tiny room, nothing too out of the norm lol But omg once the clock started ticking and we had to solve the mystery, I was like oh crap this game is testing my brain lol!!!
