Cute "little" used book store we stumbled upon while walking around the streets of Boston. The guy that rang us was was also quite nice. They know their product and have a collection of some rare books. The place is PACKED with books. It's a bit overwhelming, but they have a bit of everything and since it's been there a while, the collection is huge. Our friend managed to find some text books that were out of print. He was excited about those. It is definitely one of those places you need to spend a long time in. Easily 2 hours if there is stuff you really want to look into. This is a fabulous store. Visiting Downtown Salem in the fall can be overwhelming. While Pyramid Books is located in Downtown Salem, it's also just a tad off the main drag, meaning that it might be less crowded when you visit. Pyramid has one of the best book selections of new age materials I've ever seen. If I had the suitcase space, I could have easily bought a handful. They're organized beautifully, have a tremendous selection of authors and subject matter, and the owner/manager is really happy to help. They also offer a variety of metaphysical items, tarot decks, crystals and more. I purchased a beautiful Woodland Wardens oracle deck that I still have yet to see anywhere else. I was astonished how mild the foot traffic here was on a beautiful fall day. Few places in Salem resonated with me at the level of authenticity that Pyramid Books did. A lot of Salem has been deeply commercialized but Pyramid Books remains untouched in falling victim to the commercialized withcraft vibes. I've been to quite a few metaphysical/New Age shops, never have I quite seen one with this large of a New Age book selection. They also have an absolutely massive Tarot selection which I appreciated. They did limit the amount of people going in which was nice as the shop was pretty full. I love that everything was fully stocked and neatly organized. This place is pretty good sized for a store in the area that it is in and it has everything you need for holistic healings plus tarot decks, incense, books on metaphysics and they also have plenty of candles and crystals. Their crystal assortment is one of the larger ones in the area. I have been coming here for 14 years and I can still remember when I was a fairly new customer there and bought my very first crystal sphere. I still have the sphere, among others that I have bought elsewhere since then, and I still feel just as connected to it now as I did years and years ago when I went in there and bought it. I have seen and still see countless images in that sphere and it is still my very favorite out of several that I own. So that goes to show that their products are great and will last and last for years to come. This place also sells the stands that you can buy to set your crystal spheres on to either store or display them. And the ones that they have a really cool and reasonably priced. They also have a very good selection of herbs and incense and I have bought lots of those items. Their candle selection is good and I have bought loads of their six inch chime candles in assorted colors. Their candle holders are awesome too and are just the right size for they type of candles that I buy there. Great new age book store. I was in need of some sort of guidance during a very difficult time in my life, so a friend said that she had gotten her cards read and it helped her a lot. So I did a little bit of research and stumbled upon Pyramid Books. All the reviews were positive so I figured why not??? I read with Beverly Andersen and she was DEAD ON with many things happening in my life right now, before I even gave her any additional information besides my name. I know that a lot of the information you get from readings can be generic but Beverly was wonderful. So warm and kind and I left feeling so much better about my situation. They do readings year round, and if you are ever in Salem, stop in. You will not be dissapointed and might leave with some great insight! I know I'll be visiting again very soon. The books are great too. Lots of self help books, home remedy books, feng shui, palm reading, and others that I didnt get to take a peek at, but plan to the next time around. The store itself is cute and similar to most of the new age/ occult shops in salem. Yesterday, I had the afternoon to myself so I decided to poke around the shop. The woman at the front desk was not very friendly, infact, I was the one to greet her. I was suprised she didn't offer customer assistance since we were the only ones in there and I was browsing for a good 20 minutes. She seemed very unapproachable. Regardless, I did ask her to book me a 15 minute reading for $20 with Doug, and even though it was only $20, it was the biggest waste of my money. He asked me what I wanted to get out of the reading and I told him I was feeling very lost in life and would like some guidance. I wasn't expecting life changing answers in 15 minutes, but I did expect some authenticity in his reading. When I picked out the cards, he said the cards didn't agree with him and he straight up asked me certain questions about my life rather than trying to "read" those answers. I told him I had recently dropped out of my program at school and it really bothered me and I wasn't sure if I should continue or not and he basically encouraged me to go back into the program. Then he preceeded to waste 10 minutes telling me what a great field i'd be in career wise and went on to talk about the best companies to work for. I was extremely disappointed in this reading because 1. it was a conversation I could of had with any one for FREE and believe me, I have had this convo plenty of times!! and 2. It is common sense to know what the best companies are to work for and how to climb the ladder within the company -- I don't need a damn tarot reader to demystify that one. The reading was extremely impersonal and completely BS. and I am not one to bash on people, I usually give them the benefit of the doubt, however, this was completely an insult to my intelligence. From my very first reading with her I felt an immediate connection. She never questioned me (to dig for info), and her information was spot on. Wow, this place looks and smells just the same as the first time I sauntered in 13 years ago: There's something calming about that, especially in a town I visit to decompress. Ok, I'm the only one who cares about that so on to the goods and services. They have a solid selection of books on the occult but it's not some cheesy darkened room with goths peering over your shoulder. Rather it's a bright, sunny, inviting space. The staff is attentive and are happy to order anything they don't normally stock and usually get it in within 10 days. I spoke with Beverly, one of the three readers there, and she gave me some incredible advice. I needed some major relationship advice, and knowing just my name she began describing my current situation in such correct detail it was frightening. She gave me the best advice about the past, present and future, how things would play out and what I needed to do. I have lived in the Salem-Peabody area for 10 years and came to Pyramid Books on a very regular basis. As a bookstore, they are great with a fantastic selection. They also have a good selection in jewelry and other items as well. However, their readers leave something to be desired. I have had readings from all three: Beverly, Doug, and Mary Beth for the past 10 years., but mostly from Beverly. I usually got a recording of the readings and also kept notes. Doug and Mary Beth were mostly ok., though not that great. As for Beverly, her predictions were wrong more than they were right. I'm still not married, haven't met "the love of my life" and definitely not living in the place where I was meant to " go and have a life there with your true love". Why did I keep going back? Because I so wanted to believe her. In my opinion, Beverly is very talented in exploiting people's most vulnerable emotional areas; she also knows what to say to get repeat business; I feel badly for myself and for all the people who might also have been deceived over the years. I am angry at myself for wasting all that money over useless, and in many instances, inaccurate information. Very disappointed I bought a Skull with a dragon for a birthday present and when I get home and unwrap it to remove the price the nose of the dragon was already broken. (It was inside the tissue paper) I called to ask if they had another and of course they do not. They also don't have the authority to refund either. Very well stocked store with plenty of Wiccan, pagan, occult and new-age supplies. Customers of all paths should find something here. They also offer tarot and spiritual readings of other kinds; they seem very popular. I am an atheist buddhist, so the shop doesn't have much for me beyond some nice statues and some interesting books for the non-practitioner. My pagan friends love this place, though, and always make it a point of coming here when they visit. I have never felt uncomfortable or out of place, in fact I like going here and watching my friends browse and chat about what they could do with items. If you are not the shop's main clientel, just keep an open mind. The store's location near some good food and walking locations is an added bonus. read more

The store is far from hooky and the opposite to the small fortune teller storefronts with neon blue signs in their window. Believe it or not, the folks here have the best intentions. Find books on home remedies, full moons, tea leave readings, candle magic, ufos and ghosts and gobblins. Visit Salem, take in the fall and the Halloween spirit, stop by Pyramid whether you think this is load of bath water at the very least you'll have something to talk about. I've been here 3 times, twice with Doug and once with Beverly. I've been wowed and intrigued by some of the things they have told me. Both were very intuitive and compassionate, but I felt I connected better with Beverly. The things she focused on were much more in tune with my feelings, while Doug's information was accurate, but not as emotional-oriented. Just depends on what you're looking. I think having your cards read is great for quarter-life (or any time!) crises, looking for some advice or change in your life, or just for fun. This is the only place I have ever had cards read, but from talking to others, it sounds like the prices are reasonable. ($20 for 15 min, $40 for 30 min). You can get a lot of info from 15 min, and I didn't feel a 30 min session was better, but it did feel less rushed and gave me more time to process everything. read more

Oh my gosh. I love pyramid books! It is right in the heart of downtown. I am a huge zen buddha peace lover person. They have a small woman statue which i bought for $20 about a year ago that I still have. I also got my sisters a few books from here. It is great to find self help, spirituality books. Got a reading from Doug and he was dead on about my personality. Not sure about the reviews saying he was rehearsed but did not seem that way to me but some of the stuff he said to my friend were quite similar to mine. Maybe because we're both artist? I'm going try not to dwell on psychic readings too much but to me he seems experienced and well informed. Did not ask me much questions about my life but it appeared that he already knew of me. The incense selection is to die for. Very warm and inviting smells. The personality of the cashier though was so so. Her friendliness seemed forced. Maybe that is just me being paranoid. I like this store. They have a ton of merchandise in this store but the crystals and gemstones are where they truly shine. So many beautiful specimens, but it is pricey. They also have a big selection of oracle and tarot decks and a sizeable collection of books. They cater to quite a cross section of faiths. You will see the Green man and Goddess statuary next to the Virgin Mary, Jesus, and Ganesh. They also have a ton of skulls, small and large. Surely, they have something for everyone. The lady I spoke with happily showed me many pieces of jewelry, but ultimately the price was just too high for me. Nice store though. You definitely need to check it out. read more
