Since the sticks are behind the counter, I stood at the counter for about 5 minutes: Not a single employee from the front register, now 3, approached me. (Yes, I intentionally did NOT go out of my way to FLAG DOWN an employee.) I then proceeded to call TARPLEY MUSIC while standing at this counter. I had time to ask if they had the sticks I was looking for, BE PUT ON HOLD, and then have my question answered. I walked all the way from the back drum area to the front door, passing THREE employees...& again, not a single one offered help, assistance, or thanks: zero. Not only did he charge me more than the price he quoted that we had agreed upon, he didn't adjust the springs in the tremolo bridge at all, leaving it uneven (depressed toward the butt end, and in a lopsided manner) and unable to hold consistent string tension. I'm not convinced that he actually knows how to do a tremolo bridge setup. And to top it all off, when he did the fret leveling, he never bothered to tape the fingerboard, and left scuffs and scratches everywhere! I hear he's great with acoustic guitars, but DO NOT TAKE YOUR HIGH-END ELECTRIC GUITAR TO HIM. Honestly, even Guitar Center would have been several steps up.

So, I asked to play it and noticed all the strings were loose, and I asked the gentleman if it was okay for me to tune it. (some guitars may warp with humidity if the strings are too tight). He said, "If Charlie Daniels comes in he'll tune it his way, or if Chet Atkins comes in he'll tune it another." I agreed and just tuned best I could. Afterwards, I asked if I could try the guitar on an Amplifier to see if the guitar electronics were in good shape and he said he would go get one. I also wanted to pick out a decent amp to see how it would compare to mine, so as he walked towards the other side of the store I asked, "Are you sure?" I could hear some tension in his voice and he said, "It's my store, of course I'm sure." I just bit my tongue and waited for a better chance to break the ice with the guy or for everything to be square between us. So he told me how kids mess with knobs over there and I assured politely, "I'm sure you get a lot of traffic here." Mind that this store is on a less reputable side of town. I played the guitar and it had bad tuners and I kept my volume as low as possible. When I offered it back minutes later, saying, "Sorry, I was looking for something more expensive." He rudely snatched it out of my hands. Yet, when he first handed me the guitar it was gentle. What really bothered me is when I went out to my car I noticed scriptures written all over his display glass, and then in large print, covering most of his central windows, "JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON". I'm not religious, but this man has Jesus on his front door and Satan in his heart. There are better pawn shops to visit in Lubbock. Go there, chat and meet the locals. Give this store a wide berth.
