I'm honestly surprised by the bad reviews. We've been coming here for almost a year for my son's drum lessons, and we've had a great experience. Matt has been an awesome instructor, he's patient, and great with my energetic, easily distracted son. We've never had any problems with scheduling, and Jake has always been friendly and helpful. The staff are welcoming, the location is nice, parking is easy, and the atmosphere is relaxed. We definitely recommend this place! read more

Another classic run to Guitar Center: Needed to pickup a few pairs of drumsticks & miscellaneous hardware. Upon entry, I was halfway greeted by 2 employees standing at the register visiting with each other: I proceeded to walk towards the drum area which was completely VOID of employee presence. Since the sticks are behind the counter, I stood at the counter for about 5 minutes: Not a single employee from the front register, now 3, approached me. (Yes, I intentionally did NOT go out of my way to FLAG DOWN an employee.) I then proceeded to call TARPLEY MUSIC while standing at this counter. I had time to ask if they had the sticks I was looking for, BE PUT ON HOLD, and then have my question answered. I walked all the way from the back drum area to the front door, passing THREE employees...& again, not a single one offered help, assistance, or thanks: zero. Unfortunately, I wish I could say this was a strange anomaly. But, as mentioned above...this has become "Classic Guitar Center". BIG name. Itty-bitty customer service. read more

Just wanted to let y'all know I bought a second guitar from one of your competitors.....again...after another attempted screwing. Had a bad experience in there about a year ago and didn't plan to go back, but you were the only ones in town with the guitar that I wanted. I went in and found that the guitar you had was damaged, and you subsequently tried to screw me over by offering 15% off for the damage. Didn't bother telling me all your guitars were currently 15%off. I have literally never bought anything in the store without feeling like I was getting screwed. This place is a total joke. It looks like the store is run by a bunch of 16 year old kids. I don't understand why the store constantly looks like it's been ransacked. Their stock is basically non existent. And when you try and return items that have been unopened, they'll tell you that's it's up to their "discretion" and refuse the return. I honestly can't believe they're still open for business. Sweetwater is obviously the way to go if you'd like to work with a company that actually cares about their customers and sell quality products. Never spending another dime here. read more

I am very disappointed in where the customer service has gone in Guitar Center considering how much I've actually spent there over the years. I live in New Mexico so rarely get a chance to go into an actual store and see what all they have. Last week I had to head to Lubbock for something and was kind of happy I'd be able to stop in and possibly pick up a peddle I've been trying to find. Went in didn't know the name of what I was looking for tried... again TRIED to explain to the guy what I wanted and I didn't get out much other then nope don't have it. I left thinking this is one of the worst experiences I've had usually they will offer to order it or help in some way or fashion but ohh no they had no time for that in Lubbock. I went to my vehicle found the name of it returned and asked about the selection again was met with resistance. I've now decided that no more guitar center guess I'll keep my business online where I have to deal with a computer that you expect to he treated like a second rate human with. Apparently they don't own a vacuum cleaner. We've gone in here multiple times and it's so dirty which reflects on management. Dirty stores make me think they don't care. The guy in the blazer that works the guitar counter was very friendly and helpful but the clerk that checked us out was not. read more

My son was looking for an Amp., and we've always gone to Guitar Center in our old city. He was happy to find one here in Lubbock, but what a disappointment! We were there for over 30 minutes and no one ever spoke to us or asked if we needed help! They lost a good sale, we ended up at Tarpley Music, walked in and were greeted, personalized help, and got a much better price to boot (almost half the price!). read more

UPDATE: I emailed GC's customer service center as requested in their reply to my review. After a couple of very polite back-and-forth emails between me and them to clarify my concerns, I was assured that the manager of the Lubbock store would be reaching out to me by phone to address those concerns. It's now nearly a month later, and I've heard nothing. Huge fail on the part of the Lubbock Guitar Center's management. Lesson learned: Local GS store managers do NOT follow up on promises made by corporate Customer Service. Please read my original review so that you'll know the kind of environment you'll be walking into when you enter this store, especially if you have small children with you. read more

We recently purchased a piano and a youth guitar from them. Both were out of stock and the salesman ordered them to be shipped to the store for us to pick up there. I was told I had to pay for shipping!! To restock their store so they can make the sale? Very bait and switch tactics. After a heated "discussion " the manager agreed to remove the charge but kept insisting that it was ordered so we have to pay shipping. Several requests to cancel the that their employee made they agreed. When the piano arrived, we were told we will need a truck to pick it up. We rented a trailer. The piano was in a 19" X 12 1/2" X 60" box. The box for the junior guitar was 71/2" X 15 1/2" X 36". They could fit easily in any van or even our little Kia Forte hatchback. read more

Liked this guitar center. They have knowledgeable friendly staff and service! There is a range of everything from beginner to advanced! It your looking for parts they got it! Need lessons? They have them! Need your guitar tuned so it doesn't sound like a screeching cat? They will do it for free! What more could you possibly want from a music store? read more

I waited a few days before posting this to make sure I wasn't overreacting. I was told by one employee (E1) of a specific instrument that was in stock and in the back, but when I asked another employee (E2) when I was ready to purchase it E2 said they didn't have it. My problem was that they (E2) never took the time to look in the back, they (E2) just kept telling me "we don't carry that." How could one employee (E1), only a matter of minutes before, walk back there and see it and the other (E2) does not??? I asked if they (E2) could check by walking back there and the employee (E2) refused. The first employee (E1) had gone for the day, and sadly the second employee (E2) didn't care enough to take care of his customers. Never shopping at guitar center again. read more

It won't be long until Guitar Center is out of business. Not only does the corporation treat their employees badly but it trickles down. Occasionally, you'll find someone helpful but they need customer service help. Try Sweetwater online. Not only will they simply chat with you about your goals, etc but they're the nicest sales staff anywhere. They also know their stuff. They'll go pull the equipment and even play it over the phone. Yeah, it's not in person but they will tell you their honest opinions. I'm not going to Guitar Center any more, plain and simple. read more
