I am a regular with Qi Lu. She is very knowledgeable and accommodating - I go for all types of pain/issues and she is able to treat it all!

Clean facility with prompt care and efficient admin. Simple intake form when I arrived (1 sheet). Very brief wait at each appointment although I usually have morning appointments on weekdays. I'm in and out in 40 minutes. Each treatment is about 30 minutes of actual needle time. Afterwards I pay my copay at the counter, make my next appointment and we're done until next time. You only need to expose the treatment area and the staff asks you what you want to work on when they walk you to your room. There is relaxing music playing as soon as I enter the treatment room. After a very brief wait the doctor comes in. The actual acupuncture is a little painful when he places each needle. Then a small heater is directed over the treatment area, the lights are dimmed as the doctor exits the room and I try to relax for the next 15 minutes until the doctor comes to check on me. Then try to relax again for the next 15 minutes until time is up. Usually the doctor asks me how it felt as he removes the needles then tells me when to come back. There's a biohazard bin in the room that he puts the needles into. The staff here is easy to work with. They are helpful and quick. It's easy to schedule and reschedule appointments when needed even if its a little late notice. No one seemed upset or annoyed when I rescheduled an appointment or needed to check my calendar before booking. Last time I went in my phone was at 1% battery. When I asked if they had a charger the lady I spoke with reminded me to ask for it before I left then told the other staff members where she was charging my phone in case I asked someone else for my phone back. I've been here 6x now, ~2 days apart each visit. The doctor said I would need 5-6 sessions to fully treat and he has been using more needles each visit hoping to speed up my healing. The first two visits it seemed like it was helping but after the 3rd visit I woke up with pain in my ankle every morning. The 4th visit it got better, the 5th visit was like the 3rd one, the 6th undid some of the pain from the 5th. I don't think my ankle is any stronger/better than before I went but no treatment is a guarantee. It's also been over a year since I first injured my ankle. Perhaps coming in sooner would have had better results. I enjoyed the time here although it did not fix my issue. I would try acupuncture again in the future. I am inclined to give this spot another try for a new issue since they have so many good reviews but I'll decide when that time comes. read more

I love coming to Qi Li Acupuncture, and it's a godsend that they are so close by. I have so much tension in my neck and shoulder. I was feeling especially tired and tense one day and decided to come in. I was able to book an appointment first thing once they opened. The only thing is that I would recommend not going first thing when they have so much to do before more customers come in. The only reason why my review is four stars instead of five is that they were rushing me to get changed and walked in on me twice while I was getting ready. The massage, however, was really good and I left feeling 1,000 times better. The only spot I'll go for acupuncture from now on. I've tried 3 other acupuncture spots in NYC, but the sessions have been ineffective and the other spots' technique is horrible. I really see a difference in acupuncturists authentically trained in China, and the ones who aren't. I grew up with a personal acupuncturist in Hong Kong so I have very high standards. Everyone who works at Qi Li are all very knowledgable and every time I'm in pain, it's usually resolved in 1 session. I also love having acupressure done here because the masseuse really targets my pain points and makes it all better after my acupuncture session. Be aware that there is no consultation by Dr. Li before he starts your acupuncture session, and very little communications before, during and after treatment(s). He doesn't check your tongue or pulse (as other Eastern medicine doctors do) nor seems interested in the specifics of your condition. I don't know how an acupuncturist can proceed without wanting some understanding of your current state. Uneasy with what seemed like a "treat the symptom" focus, I nonetheless put aside my concerns because of the great reviews I read here. That was a mistake. Trust your own instincts and reactions. I felt a great deal of pain in my first session here with Dr. Li. That has never happened before in other effective acupuncture treatments I've had. Dr. Li said it was normal, and such is the power of so many positive 5 star reviews that I wanted to believe him. Each of the next 2 sessions left me feeling worse, and I developed unexpected pain in other areas of my body. This did not work well for me. read more

I have heard of acupuncture for years and I cant even put into words how skeptical I was. Being the self-aware man that I am, I am here, hat in hand to say how WRONG I WAS! About a month ago I took a work out class that involved a lot of squats. In the following days, the left arch of my foot grew increasingly painful. It got to the point where I could not walk without a serious limp and I was close to having tears in my eyes everywhere I had to go. Being the brilliant medical mind that I am (thanks to web MD), I diagnosed myself and said I fractured my foot. I begrudgingly went to City MD and spent a small fortune on a bull shit x-ray just to be told I have tendonitis. The only thing I could do was "stay off my feet for a week." Approaching a two-week vacation for Christmas/New Years, asking for a week to "stay off my feet was out of the question. My girlfriend told me I should try acupuncture and I almost laughed in her face. I told her I was not going to waste the money. She said that she would pay for it if it did not work. Pretty good deal if you ask me. I go in the following day for my appointment and leave feeling only a little better. I was cueing up my venmo request to her when she suggested I waited till the next day. When I woke up I put my feet on the floor and to my surprise NO PAIN AT ALL! My jaw hit the floor and nearly injured my foot again. I could not believe it. I was walking around as if nothing had happened. In the back of my mind, I feared after a day of walking around for work, the pain would come back. No pain after a day, two days and even two weeks. I was playing tennis again when I thought I would be layed up for my entire vacation. I said to myself if I ever experience pain anywhere, my first stop will be here. Fast forward to today. The knee I had ACL surgy on 8 years ago was acting up the past few days. This has happened in the past so I waited 72 hours but it was still as bad as when it started. Doctor: "Are you a model"? Me: What? Me? Oh nooooo. Ooh, it's been a while since I've gotten *that* question -- and right before I'm about to have needles poked into my skin. Nice! I knew I would like this place. Flattery always an option! (just kidding) In all seriousness, the doctor was great. He's from Hubei, China, where some of my family members hail from. He was very professional and clearly knew what he was doing. I told him about my pain and stress during the past few months. He asked to look at my tongue. Then he proceeded to stick some needles into my jaw and head area. It sounds scary, but it was really no more than a tiny prick. Really. He left me alone to rest for about 20 minutes. I felt myself gradually melting. It's amazing. About 15 minutes in, I felt the tension dissipate. By the time he removed the needles, I felt like flowing water. For naysayers, try it before you judge it. And if you're going to try it, I highly recommend this place. Yes, it will cost you about $70, but you will get quality service for that price. It's worth alleviating pain. Both doctor and the receptionist (who I think is his wife) were patient, professional, and kind. I immediately felt calmer upon entering the place and being greeted by their warm smiles. It also helped that the doctor was skilled. I felt fully relaxed after my visit. I used them to induce labor years ago at 40w3d and was in labor six hours later. This time around midwife suggested starting labor-prep treatments at 38 weeks, I did 4 sessions between 38 and 40 weeks and a couple of days later labor started spontaneously. The treatments helped me sleep better and I think helped me have a speedier delivery. Some of the cons: neither Dr. speak good English. I think Dr. Chi is probably more experienced and most certainly good at his job but it's difficult to discuss treatment options because of the language barrier. I found that frustrating when I started treatments at 38 weeks, there were times where I thought he was only trying to get me to buy more sessions and had I not had the positive experience with the first, I probably would have assumed that and quit going. read more

I've been to this place a few times now, and I've had mixed experiences. I mostly go for acupressure massages and some of the therapists are quite good as they are able to focus on what's bothering you and really work on that. However, I have had a few who are not so good. The last person I had was somehow very rough and sloppy, so it felt more like she was tenderizing meat rather than giving a massage haha. If you're a woman and you end up getting a man sometimes he's really awkward and you don't really get a good massage because he tries to do most of it through the towel which is rough and uncomfortable. You can request to have a female massage therapist to circumvent this problem. Overall this is a no-frills place with variable quality massage therapists. read more

I was referred to qi li to help my 36 week babe get into a head down position for delivery. I had 2 sessions. In the first session she flipped right away, but flipped back after I rested for 5 minutes and after the second session she flipped and stayed head down. It was $90 for acupuncture and moxibustion--the recommended treatment for breech presentation. When my water broke and labor didn't start, I returned to qi li to bring on contractions. They recommended acupuncture followed by 30 minutes of reflexology. The doctor told me if it worked, I would experience contractions within 2-4 hours. 2 hours and 15 minutes later (after a long, brisk walk in Central Park) my contractions started and I had my baby without interventions 6 hours later. I actually had acupuncture for the breech issue at another facility in my neighborhood first, but it was not effective. It was 3 times as long, almost twice as expensive and the baby didn't respond. Dr. Li is a great doctor, he knows what he is doing and his facility is worth the trip if you need these services. I honestly cannot recommend enough. I believe he saved me from having unwanted surgery and medical interventions. read more

Both my wife and I have been going to Qi Li for almost a year now and have had nothing but good experiences. The doctor and staff are incredibly patient and caring and have even sat with our baby monkey (daughter) on occasion during visits. We generally go for overall qi alignment and balancing sessions and always feel wonderful after. I came in at 37 weeks at the recommendation of my midwives to help get ready for labor and start moving things along as I was very uncomfortable. I bought a package of 5 sessions because I knew I was a bit early and it would take some work to get me into labor before 40 weeks. I saw Dr Li and he was knowledgeable, was able to tell progress or regression in baby's position with his exam before the session began so that he knew where to target. He was spot on as to when I would go into labor. It took me 4 sessions, lots of walking after each session at his advice to reinforce work he did and get baby into position (he was often still high at 38 weeks). I went into labor the evening of my 4th session and my midwives took it from there. Delivered exactly at 39 weeks, which is what I wanted. Thank you Dr. Li! Also, practice was extremely clean, highly recommend acupressure massage and rarely did I have to wait more than 2 mins. read more

I couldn't be happier with the services I received here! I came for help with inducing labor since I was over 40 weeks at the time. The doctor predicted my due date exactly! I received acupuncture and an induction massage. The doctor recommended I come twice considering how high my baby was in the uterus. He recommended lots of walking as well, which I did, and BAM, I was in labor the next day after my last appointment. The facility is clean, and the staff is friendly. They have a very pleasant, professional-looking office, but I wonder if they really treat you. You never need to wait, as I get the sense that they are a bit of a factory for treating lots of patients without much individual attention. The doctor who treated me didn't even bother to feel my pulse before lying me down for treatment. He just asked a few questions, took no notes, didn't even tell me any diagnosis. He felt my pulse briefly only after I asked him about it, and then without anything to rest my wrist on, and hastily, like a courtesy, rather than seriously. He only used shallow needles around the periphery of my clothes and head, so no need to remove any clothes, how convenient. The second and third time, also, no bother to check my condition or feel my pulse before diving into the half-hour needle treatment, peripherally around my ankles, wrist, neck, and collar, no explanation of what their aim was. I came for treatment of reactive airways, and felt no difference. I suspect that I was just receiving some placebo treatment so that they could make money. I canceled after the third treatment, and they did not bother to follow up to ask. This is in contrast to an acupuncturist I found later (in California), who did an extensive interview and diagnosis, took conscientious notes, and gave me the real full Monty treatment all over my back, neck, arms, legs, plus cupping and massage, for a whole hour, and at no difference in cost. She also explained her philosophy for the chosen treatment without my asking. She healed me I think in the first session, but I went back for two more just to make sure. Each time there was a serious examination of my status before doing any treatment. I am now enjoying noticeable freedom from my chest discomfort. Qi Li in contrast examined and explained nothing and seemed to have no effect. read more
