THE BEST!! I went to HM Acupuncture for a moderate case of Bell's Palsy twelve days after onset. I had four acupuncture appointments during that time at two different practices, and I saw no improvement. In the next two weeks, Shuang Huo treated me with five acupuncture appointments (combined with six PT appointments). I improved after each session, and I was back to 90% of my normal blinking and smile within those two weeks. My recovery was super quick, but I still needed to go a few more times to get to 100%. She is an expert on Bell's Palsy treatment, and I doubt you can find a better practice to treat this condition. My story is more complicated than this though. I initially got Bell's Palsy during an IVF cycle, and as a result, I had to put those plans on hold. A month after being treated for BP at HM, we were able to switch gears and focus on improving my uterine lining and general health. I only had three weeks until the frozen embryo transfer though. Acupuncture by Shuang Huo came through once again, and we were able to achieve pregnancy on the first try! I've been to a lot of acupuncturists through the years to improve fertility and each practice is different. Some do a combination of acupuncture with heat, massage, or cupping. She was the first to use moxibustion with the acupuncture, and she used it for both BP and IVF. She spent 10-15 minutes patiently burning this stick at key places during each appointment. Some other acupuncturists are fake nice, ask a lot of questions that don't matter to seem engaged, or don't seem to know what they are doing. I decided against having surgery for my Meniscus Tear and instead chose to go the alternative route. Acupuncture was one of my alternative healing options and Shaung was my miracle worker. She understood what I wanted to achieve and she was very attentive and very knowledgeable about the process. I have been seeing Dr. Jin since January 30. I had brain surgery in December which caused complete paralysis of the left side of my face. This office takes my Minnesota Blue Cross Blue Shield medical insurance. It is difficult to find a medical provider, and even more difficult to find an Acupuncturist taking my insurance in the city. In fact, my insurance has a very good coverage of Acupuncture. Before finding Dr. Huo, I had to do all insurance paperwork my own, and mailed it back to MN to get reimbursement. Though it is not as complicated as things to IRS, still it is headache ever time to do it. I was finally referred by a specialist to try Acupuncture as I have already taken the pills she can prescribe. Highly recommend this office. I went to Dr Shuang Huo for treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, and a bacterial infection. I'd previously sought treatment from several physicians and specialists but did not get relief from any of the medications or diets prescribed. I was finally referred by a top Gastroenterologist in NYC to Shuang. I was skeptic at first, as I never thought that Acupuncture would tackle complicated medical problems, especially I have already tried many solutions. But the Gastroenterologist insisted me to do so. Beyond my expectation, I began to experience symptom relief including the cession of diarrhea and acid reflux discomfort just after the second or third treatment. Those symptoms have not returned. So one morning I noticed that 1/2 my face was slightly numbed. I thought I had gotten a stroke during my sleep but soon realized that I had a mild case of Bells Palsy. The following day I stopped by my DR and he prescribed the usual medications (Prenosone and a Herpes Anti Virus) for 7 days. I came back the following week with minimal improvement. When the symptoms of bells palsy presented! I knew I had to go for acupuncture. I searched on the Internet and found HM acupuncture and reviewed their website and read how they catered to patients with my specific medical condition. I knew I wanted the best and I indeed found the best acupuncturists. I speak with experience as this was not my first time to receive acupuncture treatment. Dr. Jin, I found not only to be technically proficient, precise, educated and knowledgeable, but also to have a wonderful demeanor. He is extraordinarily positive, confident and soft-spoken, which I desperately needed at this time to feel calm and reassured. I walked in with half my face paralyzed, unaware of whether I would recover or if I would recover when;I left feeling tremendously reassured and optimistic. After a few treatments, I started to notice improvement. I felt my nerves in my face twitching and tingling which were all very positive signs and gave me such encouragement. Initially I went three times a week in my chronic state and then proceeded to go two times a week. Tomorrow morning will be five weeks and I would estimate my recovery is at 90% . I've read much recently about traditional Chinese medicine to gain a better understanding of something so foreign to most of us Westerners, but in my opinion while TCM and acupuncture works, much is in the hands of the indigenous practitioner. I've been going to Hold Middle for a very long period of time. Dr. Kung and Dr. Jin are fantastic. Dr. Huo is very short and rude and has no bedside manner. You can tell that her primary motivating force is making money (and not healing her patients) as she spends very little time with each patient. The practice has changed exponentially since Dr. Kung's arrival, which is why I've given this practice a four-star rating. Dr. Kung explains what she's doing, which points she's penetrating and what their benefits are, what lifestyle choices will be beneficial, and what systems are causing the symptoms. Since her arrival I've found that I've healed tremendously. Dr. Huo is terrible and I wouldn't recommend seeing her at all, despite the fact that she owns the practice. I saw Shuang Huo for an ear condition that started in the summer of 2014. There was pressure and fullness in my left ear, similar to the feeling you get when coming down in an airplane. It was difficult to hear, but worse, when I tried to use the telephone, the person's voice caused a buzzing noise. I was switching the phone to my right ear. I saw an otolaryngologist, and after using an endoscope to visualize the area of the soft palate where the Eustachian tube opens, he said there was congestion and inflammation, and to use a nasal steroid spray possibly for "a long time." I also saw an allergist who came to same conclusion: nasal steroid spray. Instead I wanted to see if acupuncture would help. At first the improvement was subtle, but after about 6-8 weeks of weekly treatment, the ear returned to its previous level of functioning. read more

I truly feel obliged to let more people know my successful case with Dr. Huo's acupuncture treatments, though it seems that I wrote longer than I planed to. Short case history before treatment: I am suffering IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) for approximately 22 years, with big fluctuations during that time, but in average my IBS was at moderate level. At end of 2009 my IBS came out of control with severe symptoms after each bowel movement, such as: a) severe tension and pain in lower abdominal area and as result: b) severe shortness of breath. d) strong nausea, much harder ability to concentrate and nerviness during the day and as result: e) unusual strong weakness in whole body. f) tendency to lay down all the time. g) tendency to eat more often, which in my case helps to reduce nausea symptoms, but in result gains weight. h) fear to go to restroom and as result tendency to delay stool. That usually makes my bowel movement even more painful. All these symptoms are happened right after each bowel movement (which happened to be most of the time in the morning), practically almost after each stool. Normally it was needed almost 8 hours to recovery and to reduce all symptoms to moderate level. Lately, shortly before starting treatment, most of above referenced symptoms stayed even longer, practically all the day until falling in sleep. Contrary, in case of absence of stool in that day, my condition was 10 times better, creating tendency to avoiding stool or changing its habit to evening hours. But this was less successful in my case. Delaying the stool makes it harder and therefore all symptoms much worthier. In conclusion, IBS in my case mainly means nervous, extremely sensitive stomach and as result very severe condition after each bowl movement and that's all, because consistency of the stool itself is normal most of the time (practically no diarrhea or constipation ever). During and after one month of treatment: After starting acupuncture treatments my IBS symptoms start to improve slowly, approximately after 5th session (from May, 26 or after 10 days). After that, my symptoms still fluctuate during the day, but even worthier days are say 25% better than before treatment was started. Overall my condition for 1st month has been improved significantly; say almost 50% better than before. Most important thing is that time to recovery after bowel movement reduced to 3-4 hrs instead of 6 to 8 hours as was before treatment. Also I feel calmer and much less weak during the day, being more productive doing my job. Tension in lower abdominal area and following from that shortness of breath still stays all the time, but became much less severe and then gradually reduces during shorter recovery period. POSTED FOR THOSE WITH SKIN PROBLEMS, AND FOR ALL I have not written a review before, but need to share my experience of Acupuncture with Dr. Shuang Huo of Acubetter. I've recently gone into Menopause, but for over a year have been bedridden with something no Western Doctor can suss out. The menopausal symptoms became So severe that I decided to try HRT against my judgement. It gave me relief in 7 days but with the side effect of a severe fungal infection over large areas of my body - severe pain, oozing,bleeding, sheets needing daily change. Dr. Shuang Huo was recommended by a dear friend. I've had my fill seeing numerous Western Doctors one after another, so I went in quite dejected not expecting much. Dr. Huo took me to her office in the back, examined me physically, took a full medical history, asked about my diet, test results of the recent past, and I realized later, memorized Everything about me that concerned my condition and more. What was most important was she Very patiently Listened. She did Not interrupt me, she did Not make me feel as if my suddenly recalling things and adding them - what other doctors would call "jumping around too much" - was a bother to her. Quite the contrary, she stayed with me, understood everything. She was extremely thorough, and anything unclear, she politely made certain that she understood what I meant. I felt as if I was having a dream in which I was being treated the way all patients deserve to be treated: listened to with compassion and treated as a human being, rather than being rushed along while the doctor has already made a diagnosis in the first few minutes. I felt an immediate sense of comfort and relief. Once on the table for the actual acupuncture, I asked her to address the multitude of things that have been plaguing me for nearly two years, but she was adamant about addressing one thing at a time as I had a plethora of issues going on all at once. She explained every step of the way what was going on, and which needles addressed what. She also wanted to know what I felt. We - I say "We" because it felt from our first session together as if this was a Doctor AND Patient Relationship, and not the Doctor/patient Dictatorship I have come to see as the norm. We first addressed the skin infection. In a month it had completely cleared up. To say this is a miracle is an understatement since the infection was so severe and so painful. She went on to address the hormonal issue, and after she noticed my system could handle a little more, she began to work on more than one thing at a time, always noting how my body reacted. She works from a very intuitive level, with an incredible wisdom of the Body, Mind, and Spirit. Dr. Huo has helped with Everything far more than any Western doctor has or the many creams and pills I have been prescribed for a variety of issues. I am not shunning Western medicine, I believe it has it's place. Chinese Medicine is Still Medicine. Both are valid. Personally, in a time when so many chemicals are added to pills whose derivatives often come from plants, so many tests performed repeatedly at such high cost to the patient in Every sense of the word, I'll choose Chinese medicine and Nature over pills. Or, if necessary, the two can be combined with no clashing. I believe that Acupuncture can and does compliment Western Medicine. I wrote this realizing many people may not be aware Acupuncture can help with skin issues, or skin diseases. I urge anyone to delve into the many issues that Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine can help with. Regarding my continuing visits, she still recalls Everything. Being so busy, I don't know how she does it because she doesn't take notes, she memorizes. She recalls to the very last detail any changes or improvements. She makes certain that you are comfortable, and remembers - for example - whether you like a pillow under your knees, and the temperature most comfortable for you. She is very clear, should you forget, that she is working from a Chinese Doctor's perspective, she does not urge you to stop any medication, nor does she opine one way or the other on Western Medicine. She informs you on your first visit how many sessions she believes will resolve the issue. I've even asked for more sessions, and she has very kindly told me that it is not about the quantity, it is about the quality. When I've had periods where I've missed a few sessions, she Still recalls every little detail and points out that perhaps the gap was better because she could gauge how it had continued to work on me. If you have an emergency, she urges you to call her. Whenever I have left her office, without fail, my husband Always says that I "look better, radiant." First,I'll say it's not uncommon for your physician to give you a prescription for steroids and send you home to hope Bells Palsy clears up on its own. I highly recommend Shuang Huo's practice. I've been going for several months. I didn't really know anything about acupuncture and had never gone before, but was always curious. Thanks to my insurance, I was able to go for a very reasonable rate, 20 times a year. I originally went to Dr. Huo to treat general tension in my wrists from computer use and also to boost my immune system after having been very sick the previous year. Within only a few treatments, my wrists felt more relaxed than they had in years. I didn't even think it was possible for them to feel that way again, while still using the computer the same amount. She has also helped pain in my knees and in my chest. I feel better in general from going and really enjoy the hour. Dr. Huo is very kind, patient, and professional.
