I chose New Jersey Tai Chi through a regional magazine, and I was delighted with its holistic approach to fitness, martial arts, and mind/body wellness. And my experience there did not disappoint. In the short time that I have been practicing with Harry, Paul, and others, I am learning not just the movements and breathing, but also leveraging the strength of my entire body. In addition to the physical movements, I am also learning to focus with my mind on the flow of energy and listening through Push Hands with my mind's eye. In every class, Harry demonstrates the application of those elegant moves into practical and powerful self-defense tactics. After 2 months of this treatment I was still in incredible pain and the doctors were suggesting shooting cortisone into my spine and if that didn't work spinal surgery. I was at wits end and decided to look into alternatives. I found Dr. Shu and after examining me he told me that through acupressure, cupping and herbal medicine, he would be able to help me. It was my first time trying qigong, so I can't necessarily compare my experience with anything prior, but I found the environment to be welcoming and comfortable. Pat, the instructor, was informative and was open to questions. She gave an overview of what we'd be doing beforehand, which I found helpful. It was a calming, relaxing, and fun class. I would definitely try it again. It was a gentle introduction for a beginner and both men and women participated in the class, so they have a variety of clients and seem open to anyone joining the class.
