I went to Byers Chiropractic to see if he could help with the pain/motion of having an aggressive…read morearthritis. On my first visit the doctor asked a lot of questions of my current and past health and medications I'm on. When I told him the medications, he commented that he would have me off all medication in 6 months to a year. Huge red flag, but I did run, I thought that I would stick it out and just see where this would lead. Dr. Byers stated that some spine manipulations would be the first order of business. Next visit I went and layed down on this table face down and he was pushing (rather hard) on my spine. The weight he put on me felt like my rib cage actually compressed. Lots of cracking and popping but with my type of arthritis, my joints pops and grind alot. Then with no warning, he grabbed my head and twisted it from side to side so fast it hurt and scared me...litterally! I had to fight the tears. Got an instant throbbing headache that lasted into the evening with sore back and neck the next few days. He wanted me to have a massage so I scheduled that for the next visit and I told him that I had one years before (different place) and they really put me in pain, so he stated that he would tell the therapist that it was to be a comfort massage and not a deep tissue. Apparently the instructions did not get to the therapist on the visit. Although the girl was very nice and talkative, she was VERY rough and was hurting me. I stated to her that she was hurting me several times and she never lightened up her strength. She forced my chin into my chest several times and would hold it there. I told her that this was hurting as well. When I was done and finally left, I was dizzy and in pain and had no intentions of going back. Obvious to me that no one there actually LISTENS to what the patient is telling them. The following days I had a lot of pain simply by taking deep breaths and constant throbbing headache. I was grocery shopping the next day and while looking at cards, litterally fell toward the cards rack like I was loosing consciousness. I grabbed the wall to steady myself and started getting real shaky in my legs so I had to leave. Sat in the car with a terrible headache. Scared over what had just happened I went to my family physician and she sent me for an MRI of the neck and head. Come to find out, I have Chiari Malformation! Which means the brain stem extends to far into the spinal canal. This I was born with and just never knew. The area was very inflamed, (my belief and my physicians) caused by the rough manipulations and massage given at Byers. The inflamation was squeezing off the flow of fluid around the brain stem which was causing the black outs. Only surgury can fix the problem if we could not get the inflamation down which has a 6 month recovery period or longer. (Research Chiari Malformation) THANK THE LORD, after about a week, the dizziness/fainting/bad headaches had subsided and I chose to not have the surgury....yet. I do not hold Byers Chiropractic responsible for me HAVING the malformation because like I said, you can only be born with this......HOWEVER, being that Dr. Byers took NO xrays to even look if there was a potential problem that he could have SERVERLY injured by twisting/pressing/popping was negligent on his part not to mention I TOLD him I did NOT want a deep tissue, he did not relay the instructions and she, not knowing what injurys she could be creating and NOT LISTENING to me when I told her she WAS HURTING ME SEVERAL TIMES...she is negligent as well. I have not and don't intend to get an attorney because I simply don't need the aggravation, but heed my warning if you are planning on going to this or any chiropractor.....you may end up A LOT WORSE than when you first came. I have always heard warnings about Chiroprators and thought "they can't be all THAT bad"...BAHAHAHAHA Learned my lesson....the hard way! (Sorry for the LONG story!)

Getting adjustments has been a major help in helping me get back into the gym and be able to workout again. I am very thankful for how much seeing Dr. Byers has helped me!
