BEAUTIFUL Hotel and Suite! The mattress was THE BEST MATTRESS we've slept on! It was so comfortable, and the bedding was great too. Everything was clean, spacious, and they included extra pillows, a blanket, 2 robes, and extra towels. There was a mini-frig, Keurig Coffee maker, and 2 bottled waters. The room was updated, and had Quartz countertops in the bathroom, kitchenette, on the TV cabinet, dresser, and end tables. The staff were friendly and helpful. Free parking, a nice restaurant onsite. Great location, next to Bowdoin College, which has a gorgeous campus. The only suggestion I have for such a nice hotel is to include a magnifying make-up mirror in the bathroom, which would be helpful for those of us with poor eyesight and/or for those that are shorter and can't get close up to the mirror over the vanity. I realize this is a First-world problem. We would highly recommend this hotel, and we were sad we only booked it for one night, on our way back to Boston. read more

We recently spent 4 nights at this hotel and could not have been much happier. It is literally situated across the street from the Bowdoin College campus and within easy walking distance of the shops and restaurants located along Maine Street. The rooms and facilities are well maintained and we found every employee to be friendly. A complimentary continental breakfast is offered each morning that includes both fresh fruit and pastries. Freshly baked cookies are impossible, at least for me, to resist when offered in the late afternoon. In addition, its central location allowed us to explore a number of towns situated along Maine's mid-coast. There is little doubt that we will be returning. read more

This is the first time I have been to this hotel and I was extremely happy with the quality of everything. It was not cheap but it was worth the money. We had a great night sleep here. They have wonderful amenities. Everything was pretty clean (I did find hairs in the bathtub/shower area - hence the 4 stars instead of 5). The beds were comfortable. We were put across from the elevator and heard nothing. The front desk staff was pleasant. The parking was easy and you can walk anywhere in Brunswick from here. The hotel breakfast that was included was fantastic compared to what you get at chain restaurants. And best of all, the checkout time is noon instead of 11 like so many hotels. My husband and I stayed at the Brunswick Hotel two nights before our wedding and the night of our wedding. We arrived too early for check in so they gave us to drink tickets to use at the bar. The interior of the hotel was very nice however I was not super impressed with our king suite. It was about 350 square feet but had very little furniture and a lot of empty space. There's free coffee in the lobby everyday which is good because the coffee situation in the room was not stocked for use. The location of the hotel is ideal if your doing things in downtown Brunswick. The parking lot for the hotel is small and was completely filled by 7pm on a Saturday night. I almost think not getting a king suite is the way to go, it was pricey and didn't seem to have additional amenities than a regular room would. read more

I stay in this hotel just about every year for one evening, before heading to my family place on the coast of Maine. I've not been disappointed yet with my experience. Rooms are well Kept, comfortable, quiet. They have a nice dining room, I rarely chose anything except the lobster roll, as it's my first lobster fix of each of my annual treks. Paired with a good local brew, it's my happy meal to start my vacation! Last night I had the Allagash White ale. Be warned, there is a singer in the dining area on Friday nights. I like that atmosphere, but others may not as it's s little on the too loud side. I'm going with 4 stars for the Inn and 2 stars for the Tavern, averaging out to 3. Let's start with the negatives: the Tavern. Being at an Inn of this quality when I read the menu and saw the picture of the Tavern's food, when I actually arrived at the Tavern I thought I was in the wrong place. Most Inns of this quality will have a small, often romantic, and sometimes fairly formal restaurant. Having read the menu, that's what I expected. When I entered I found something that felt like a gastropub with a poorly defined line between the bar and restuarant, making drinkers feel like they're eating in a restaurant and presumably making diners feel like they're drink in a (pretty noisy) bar. I stopped by several times hoping to get a quiet pint in my quiet Inn but because the bar area itself is small and the high tables are set for dinner and it was pretty full, that was never to be. Breakfast the next day was fine, 3-4 stars with a very nice server. Advice: figure out what the Tavern wants to be. To me, it has an identity crisis and that's the underlying cause for many of the more negative reviews. The positives: fantastic location if you're visiting Bowdoin, well appointed rooms (but no ice buckets!), clean, generally well decorated and has the exact appropriate feel of the positives of a B&B but without the negatives. It is a hotel with some B&B feel (as opposed to the opposite) and that was exactly what I wanted. read more

I've stayed in worse, but not at this price. Once we found a parking spot (which was an issue) and found our room, we were quite impressed. First impressions were positive for this place. We had a corner room on the top floor that was ridiculously spacious and well appointed. This positive impression lasted maybe five minutes when my wife used the bathroom and found dried urine on the toilet seat. This made me wonder what else we were missing and I immediately pulled back the covers to check the sheets. Sure enough the maid that doesn't clean toilets also doesn't change the sheets. In the bed we found what might have been fingernails or scabs and a collection of pubic hair right where you'd expect them. We stopped at the front desk on our way out to ask that someone address these issues to which she seemed quite annoyed. Thankfully, there were fresh sheets and a clean toilet on our return. This is what got this place a second star. Some small issues included the lack of spare toilet paper and tissues. There was also only one trash can, which doesn't sound like a big deal but this was a suite. It filled up quickly. After noting a few more hairs on the nicely tiled bathroom floor, I stopped paying attention. I was running out of things I was willing to touch! Oh yeah, the parking. There were about thirty spots for more than fifty rooms and we were instructed by the desk clerk to park on the street under a sign that said 'no overnight parking'. So I went down at 4:00 AM to grab a spot in the lot. Then I could relax. Anyway, we slept well and enjoyed the town of Brunswick. read more

Where to start? Even prior to arrival, we asked twice for a confirmation email and it was never sent. When we arrived, we were told there was "plenty of parking available," there was no parking available. When asked what the best option was at the front desk, they told us to park at a grocery store- when asked if this was allowed, the front desk told us "just to park in the back." The elevator was broken. Guest services would randomly stop by the room saying "someone called." The front desk staff was rude and uninterested when asking questions. I was visiting my family in Maine for the first time in two years (due to the pandemic). It was also the occasion of my birthday as well as my brother's 60th. My mother insisted that I stay at a "nice hotel" so recommended The Brunswick Hotel. At $429 per night for Friday and Saturday and $329 for Sunday night, as well as the hotel's assurances of a focus on health and safety due to COVID-19, one should absolutely expect that the room would be clean. Unfortunately, that was not the case. There were long dark hairs on the floor of the bathroom (which also had smears of dirt) as well as short dark hairs in the shower. The bathroom vanity was extremely dusty and the light over the mirror did not work. The lamp on the night table was also caked in dust. I stopped by hotel reception on my way out the first day to advise them that the room was not clean and ask them to please ensure that it was upon my return later that day. It was somewhat better but the lamp still had not been dusted and there was still a short dark hair in the shower. So, clearly their focus was not on cleanliness. On the third night they failed to empty the wastebaskets and recyclables as well as replace the dirty washcloth in the bathroom. At a cost of $1,167 for three nights in an unclean room, this hotel was a total failure and I would not recommend a stay here. read more

My mom and I always love coming to this hotel when we're on vacation in Maine. However, this trip was particularly unforgettable. I left our room around midnight to make a phone call so I wouldn't disturb my sleeping mother. And upon my return, the keycard lock turned green but wouldn't unlock. I tried several times before knocking and calling my mom. (Of course, her phone was on silent and she slept through the knocks.) After receiving no answer, I went downstairs to find help and found no one. I waited in the lobby for several minutes which turned into an hour, then returned to my room to try once more. The key card once again turned green but didn't unlock. I tried calling the hotel to see if I could find someone to help, but to no avail. It was about 3am at this point. Defeated and tired, I ended up sleeping -- poorly -- in our rental car. (Thank goodness I'd had the foresight to grab the car keys on the way out of the room.) My mom, having slept comfortably through the entire ordeal, woke up around 8am to the onslaught of missed called and texts and finally let me back into the room. Not sure what the moral of the story is here, but I'm not dissuaded from staying at the Brunswick hotel in the future. I just hope that they've resolved their door issues by then. And I'll make sure my mom has her phone turned on next time. read more

Luckily our stay was only for one night because this property was a disappointment. The first room was disgusting with stains and remnants of things that we prefer not to imagine what they are. Not sure what The Brunswick Hotel's protocol is for "room is ready" but whatever it is needs to be seriously amended. How does a property give the "all okay" when the room is disgusting? The second room was dusty, the bathroom light didn't work, there was a clump of hair on top of the shower drain, there was no coffee maker and the walls were dented and scratched. I suppose a dented and scratched wall is the least of a guest's worries but when the property describes itself as "the hotel is known for its stylish interiors"... makes one wonder. The one star is for the great location which is at one corner of Bowdoin and the beginning of the shops on Maine Street. Message to hotel, cleanliness should be your main priority not least, and ensure rooms are properly equipped and functional. read more

After staying here eight times for business in 2017/2018, I can safely say that this hotel rocks. It features an excellent location on the strip near the university (easily walkable to nearby shops and restaurants), and the lobby/facility is inviting with extremely friendly staff. The rooms are always clean and quite large (by hotel standards, they are huge), and the beds are also oversized and plush. There are several room sizes, including suites with the ability to be converted for a mini business meeting, and wifi around the hotel is a breeze (and free). I'm not sure why there had been some reviews knocking the Tavern downstairs -- the bar staff are gregarious, and they usually have very tasty and interesting rotating beers on draft. To be fair, I've never eaten lunch or dinner here, but I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast buffet that was served in the conference room (the egg white and spinach scram was delicious). Overall, this would be an ideal place to stay for a parents' weekend, for business, or for those just passing through Brunswick. Note: this hotel is dog friendly, and the staff not only remembered my pup's name on repeat visits but would have a treat waiting for her. Now that is service. Four paws up! read more

Location, location, location. This one's a total loser. You can't walk anywhere from this hotel. It's pretty clear they designed it this way so you have to eat at their awful restaurant. Check the Yelp reviews for The Tavern. Not good. I wanted seafood my first night in Maine and came up empty handed. The walls are paper thin. I knew exactly when the person in the neighboring room turned off their tv. I also knew exactly when they fell asleep. The snoring sounded like they were in bed with me. Okay, let's break this down in sections since it is both an inn/hotel and a restaurant. The Inn at Brunswick Station is brand new with a great location adjacent to the Bowdoin College campus. The staff is eager to please although very young. The check-in process is a bit trying since they get a bit intrusive, e.g. asking you for ID in addition to your credit card (lack of trust does not breed good custormer relations) and one must initial all kinds of pacts with the management like adhering to their no-smoking policy (so help me, God!). It's a little bit too nanny-like so the first impression upon check-in is not great. Also, they ask for your vehicle registration number. Are they kidding? So, registering at this place is a bit like a police stop (license AND registration, Sir!) in one sense. Once inside, since it's still only 3 weeks old, the place is still off-gassing like crazy, so unless you have a great tolerance for urea-formaldahyde, I would recommend limiting one's stay here to a day or two for the next six months (and keep your windows open). The interiors need more decor. It's still too much like the new house without furniture. We had large photos of polar bears in our room which, for certain guests with phobias might be off putting. (you find out later that the polar bear is the mascot of Bowdoin College). Rooms were very comfy with new everything, fuzz on the towels, great mattresses, etc. All other systems were fine. Great air-conditioning. Oh, we could use a few towel racks in the bathroom, please. Free wi-fi. Kudos on that. Restaurant was very good at breakfast and dinner with outdoor and indoor seating. Terrific, friendly bartender named Sarah who pours a good drink and works quickly. The rest of the servers were eager, helpful, although perhaps a bit too autobiographical if showed the least bit of encouragement to "share." The desk man, Ryan, recommended the crab cakes to us several times so we had to try them. They were tasty. Loved the seared scallops with lobster risotto. Woof! Still some kinks to work out (like stocking some campus maps for one and getting the staff better informed about things to do in the area.) but I'm sure they'll get there. THE place to stay if you are visiting Bowdoin College for any reason. Everything is accessible by foot in town from the Inn. A tad pricey for a small town in Maine. read more

I got to stay here somewhat by accident: my hosts tried to book me in another place (The Brunswick Inn, I think) but splurged on the Hotel & Tavern because the first hotel was full. I spent three nights here and enjoyed my stay. My room was spacious and mostly quiet. The bed, linen, furniture and so on were A-OK. There's free WiFi, as other Yelpers have reported. The people who work here are friendly and upbeat. The Hotel & Tavern has a basement workout room with five pieces of equipment (supplied by True Fitness) and a water cooler. The equipment doesn't seem to be used much, but there's a constant stream of visitors to the water cooler. Most of the visitors are hotel staff stop in to fill up their personal water bottles. The tap water tastes like carbon tetrachloride, so I advise you to join the crowd. There's free lobby coffee, starting at 5:30AM. Yay! Alongside the coffee is a basket of bananas, apples and other fruit. The fruit was most welcome. I had breakfast in the Tavern for two of my three nights. It was fine, and it wasn't ridiculously expensive: coffee and two eggs (with bacon, toast and potatoes) led to a charge of $11.34 + tip. My first breakfast (on a Sunday morning) took suspiciously long to prepare; maybe the chef had to be rousted out of a deep sleep in a basement break room. I was cold in my room until I turned the thermostat up to 80. I got no heat at all when I set the room temperature to any normal number. The reason, as it turned out, is that the sensor was falsely reading the room temperature as 76, when it was probably more like 62. Garbage gets picked up at 6AM, and the process isn't quiet. My room looked out over the pickup. That's why my room was only "mostly" quiet. I actually didn't mind getting up early -- that way I had my pick of the banana basket in the lobby. read more

We absolutely LOVED staying at the Brunswick Hotel & Tavern! The staff was incredibly friendly, the rooms were spotless, and the bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. They not only allowed us to bring our dog, but they gave her a goodie bag with her own welcome note! The best part of the stay was the fact that I am a Bowdoin alum. The hotel is closer to campus than most on-campus housing. The decor is beautiful and incorporates wood from former Bowdoin buildings, polar bear photos on the walls and a Bowdoin sun door knob. We even got a discount for being a Bowdoin grad. The Tavern has delicious food, excellent service and lovely ambiance. If you are staying with a dog, you will be on the first floor, which is close to the Tavern. This can be very noisy. We couldn't open the curtains or windows because our room looked on to the tavern patio, but we were fine with that given the circumstances. They actually offered us a better room, but I reminded them that we have a dog. The hotel is not cheap, but it was worth every penny for the quality of the experience that you get. We had three magnificent nights here. When I return to Brunswick I will definitely be staying here again. read more

We loved staying at the Brunswick Hotel and Tavern. The room was spotless, modern, and the bed was so incredibly comfortable. My girlfriend is a Bowdoin alum and the location is right across the street from Bowdoin. We even got a discount because she went to Bowdoin! The tavern is great and they have great happy hour deals. We brought our dog and they went out of their way to accommodate us, we even got a little goody bag for her! I would absolutely recommend staying at the Brunswick Hotel and Tavern. I recently spent three nights at the Inn and really enjoyed my stay. The "regular" king room was HUGE, new, very clean, and the bed was so comfortable. I love that the Tavern is right in the Inn, which was so convenient after our long drive from NYC. The food and service at the Tavern is very good with a casual, upscale feel to it. My dinner and breakfast were both delicious. Brunswick is a great place to stay while enjoying this very diverse area. We packed in a lot during our 2 full days there. Be sure to visit the Bowdoin Museum, which is a fantastic jewel of a museum. We also drove along the coast, had a day in Portland where we took in the Winslow Homer exhibit, saw the "Headlight" light house in Cape Elizabeth, did some shopping in Freeport and had a really nice relaxing stay at the Inn. Everyone that works at the Inn, from the bartender James, to the wait staff, and the staff working at the front desk, was so friendly and welcoming. The front desk manager Carolyn was very helpful during our stay and was happy and willing to give directions and suggestions when asked. The free wi-fi is a nice touch :) I would definitely recommend the Inn at Brunswick Station and I look forward to returning on my next visit to Maine. read more

We chose the Brunswick Tavern because of its proximity to the Maine State Music Theater and because we had sampled Chef Cunningham's food at Harvest on the Harbor a couple of years ago. We were not disappointed. Very impressed with the decor of both the tavern and the hotel. The menu has great variety in both food, wine and cocktails. I like the fact that you can order some of the apps/entrees in a smaller size - I paired the smaller size veggie pasta with a side salad. Unfortunately they serve really great bread and oil before dinner which was my downfall - otherwise I would have had a nice light and satisfying dinner. I also had a muddled cucumber gimlet that smelled and tasted wonderful. Kudos to the staff for great service. We will return! read more

We stayed here two nights. One night at the beginning of our trip up the coast and one night on our way back to Portland. The town of Brunswick is beautiful and has a lot of small town appeal. History, unique shops and a quaint downtown area. The Brunswick Hotel & Tavern was fantastic. Updated, clean, spacious rooms and comfortable beds. The staff is amazing and does everything to make your stay enjoyable. The front porch and comfy rocking chairs are a fantastic way to end your evening. I stayed here for my friend's wedding a couple weeks ago. I shared a room with two other friends and the room itself is nice, spacious, comfy beds, nice spacious bathroom so why the low score? Well, checking in was easy...but then realizing that the elevator was so slow as we got in after that very first day we skipped the elevator if we weren't hauling any big items with us. Then, once I realized our room key was demagnetized. We had to get it magnetized again so we can use it. I thought I was the only one who had an issue but my friend's key also had same issue. She told me when she went back to get it done there were a number of people with same situation. Yes, given this can happen if you put the key close to your credit card, etc. But I haven't had an issue at all with other hotel card keys and in any case mine was in my purse no where near my credit card or phone. Then...later one night my friend wanted to use the wifi but realized we were never told or given information on what the wifi name was. We called front desk and they told us what it was...but then informed us that during that time (probably 10pm) that the wifi was down but would be working later... On top of that...when we checked out my friend told me she'd cover it with her card so I don't have to use mine on file. After our trip I checked my credit card online and noticed a charge. I wanted to confirm if this is right...my friend has to fly back to Tanzania so we need to make sure it's split up right if this was an issue. I called the hotel and the gentleman that helped me said that my card was used. And I informed him that when checked out my friend used her card but I was confused why I was showing a charge...he said that from their records my card was used and sees no other instance of another card. A little annoyed I just went ahead and told my friend to pay me back...a couple days past and then I see no charge on my card. I called the Inn again and another person helped me this time a female. She told me that my friend's card was used instead and that protocal they put a hold on whatever card on file until check out so it may take awhile to show. WHY WASN'T THIS TOLD TO ME EARLIER? She told me the guy I spoke to was new so he probably didn't know or explained clearly to me....Again, annoyed but accepted it. Just means a bit more back and forth with my friend on transferring funds now that she's in another country. Overall...stay was fine...quiet, and staff relatively nice....however convenience of stay in regards to what I like in a hotel stay is having things told to me correctly the first time, having amenities when I need them, and this all fall a bit short. It was a pricey stay to me ($179/night--discounted for the wedding) but fell short of what I can get at the Holiday Inn in Bath...given the Holiday Inn was a bit old and not too nice in comparison at least the room key worked, wifi worked, and my checkout was completely easy. read more

This is a hotel that could be so much more, but limits itself to providing a very basic experience. Let's start with the physical property. The location is perfect, the decor clean and new, and the feel is comfortable Maine chic. So far, so good. After that, it's hit or miss, with a mostly mediocre staff and strange occurrences. The fire alarm went off at 2am, which is both disconcerting and scary. The people in the room above us stomped all night, and the floors/walls seem to be paper thin and without sufficient insulation to keep even normal sounds out. The live jazz might be nice, if it wasn't directly outside our 2nd floor room playing even after we wanted to go to sleep. In terms of service, everyone seems busy doing their own thing, which does not include either (a) saying hello or looking up when you walk past the counter or (b) helping with your luggage when you get there or check out. Before arriving, I asked for champagne in the room to surprise my wife; nothing done, no champagne. Disappointment. The nicest people were the housekeeping staff, who did a tremendous job and are the best managed of the entire place. The best thing about this hotel is that the air conditioning blew incredibly strong and cold, keeping the room nice and cool during the heat of summer. The suite we had was large, with a big bathroom, a king size bed, and a pull out couch. Three stars seems appropriate, as this is a "good" hotel with potential to be greater. Hopefully, a solid manager will come on board and whip this crew into shape. read more

We were traveling through new England for our honeymoon and got a great deal on travelzoo for the inn and tavern. We were very happy with Brunswick as a destination overall. It's a small, artsy, college town with a lot of charm and some great local shops (gotta try the gelato place). The inn is cozy, friendly, nicely decorated and the staff is very friendly. I would def recommend both Brunswick and the inn for anyone traveling through new England. It totally beats more touristy joints like bar harbor. read more

I recently stayed there with my wife in one of t their King rooms and was very impressed. The room was clean, beautiful and very comfortable after a long trip from up state New York. The house cleaning staff is amazing, keeping the rooms very clean and well stocked. The Tavern was in the hotel and not only was the food amazing but the staff was friendly and outgoing. The food speaks for itself and it is full of favor. The thing that hit home for us both was the front desk staff. This one young lady went above an beyond printing out a list of local restaurants in town and in the surrounding areas. She also went out of her way to suggest local area shops for gifts for our family, for my wife and even store that would work for me. She knew all the locations, names and told us how to get there. She gave us a map of the area Islands, told us where we could see the oceans and take great pictures. She told us that she was a local, that if there was anything she could do to help us enjoy our stay even more to let her know. Her name escapes us because it was so unusual..we have never heard it before.
