Asked the owner to look into ordering a Cinnamon-Clove tea produced and packaged in Cyprus. I brought some for my wife during my many trips there, but wanted to find a local supply since I will not be returning to Cyprus for the foreseeable future. I brought the owner an empty box, to which he replied, "no problem, give me 2 weeks". I returned to find that he located the tea, imported via a Chicago distributor, and ordered a sleeve of 10 boxes priced at $2.99/box. I negotiated and box the entire sleeve of 10 boxes, paying only slightly more than what I previously paid at the Cyprus Hypermart I shopped at. The plan was to make Chicken Tikka Masala for BF birthday. This would be my first attempt at making Indian food from scratch. I researched recipes to find one that was authentic and began my search for the ingredients. This led me to Quality Halal Market. Found those spices that HEB would never carry. It's a small store near the corner of Palmer and 1431. The shelves are packed with exotic materials. I spent an additional hour here looking at all of their goods. There was one more spice that was eluding me so I asked the manager. He was so helpful. He found the spice, gave me hints on making the Tikka Masala, showed me the frozen samosas that he eats, and gave me a backup plan in case my Tikka masala sucked. Needless to say, I didn't need the backup plan. BF loved the dish. Now he wants me to make pappadum and the sauces to go with it. I may go back to this store although I found their pricing quite a bit higher than other like stores. read more

This is a small specialty grocery store that caters to south Asian/Mediterranean tastes. They offer some fresh veges and fresh meats cut to order. If you live in NW Austin, and need fresh Chicken and you are like me and don't want to bring chicken home from HEB and then have to touch/cut it your self, this is a great option and more reasonably priced then other fresh chicken options. Watch what you are buying and what you are getting especially when you buy Goat. Keep a close eye on the piece of Goat you buy and watch carefully that no magical pieces appear and disappear when they are cutting the goat pieces. If you are easy they will add more bone piece to goat/lamp. Owner never bill the item properly, all items are marked as grocery So if anything wrong with bill or expensive you can't identify or exchange. items are also expensive. Great halal meat. The quality of the meat is always fresh especially the lamb and goat. They also have a good variety of international treats like cookies and biscuits that I like to get.
