NOW THE BAD: I travel for a living so I was in a rush and forgot to make my reservation for a room here. That's on me. When I arrived I was greeted by a new hire and the GM. The new hire was very pleasant but the GM was rude and condescending. She was borderline disrespectful. I do know that she will read this and YES you knew you were! I would call out your name since you were so kind enough (sarcasm) to give me your business card when I asked for it because you knew I wasn't happy with your conduct and you didn't care but I will spare calling your name out nationwide. What happened. Well you greeted me as if I was a transient since YES admittedly I forgot to reserve a room. Marriott would have skipped the rudeness and just found me a room. You were condescending because you acted as if I didn't have the means to pay for the room. Saying TWICE in a direct manner with a condescending tone. "YOU WILL NEED A LICENSE AND CREDIT CARD!" As if I didn't have either. You acted as if I were homeless asking me if my address was correct on my license?! Never had that question before even when I stayed at your property the first time and NEVER at ANY other hotel chains. To be honest I am not accustomed to being treated like that so I was taken aback. You were so condescending in fact that I just kept looking at you and said "Is there a problem?!" In retrospect I wish I wasn't so road fatigued because I would have just walked out and wrote a formal complaint letter to corporate. There is free wifi, they have a free hot breakfast and a clean well lit swimming pool and whirlpool. My wish list for the hotel includes a frozen dessert vending machine that dispenses things similar to a DQ sandwich or Dilly Bar and an ice machine that has a higher capacity. This one ran out after 2 buckets and I had to wait 15 minutes for more ice. The rooms are clean. Beds are comfortable. AC works great and can keep your room icebox cold. Housekeeping this morning did a great job cleaning up and resetting the room again. I have stayed at a few hotels in Ottumwa over the years. This is one of the best ones in town and would recommend it if you are looking for a clean and affordable bed for the night.

The receptionist, who was the nicest person ever, informed us after paying for our room, the pool was inoperable, but was offered to walk across to the Holiday Inn Express to use the pool. The smell of paint fumes caused us both to have headaches and my bf's asthma to flare up. The curtains in our room were inoperable, so we woke up to the sun shining in our faces. The shower head did not work, and there was woodwork missing in the bathroom. The manager Tabitha is rude and hostile, as i returned her attitude, she then hung up on me. I didn't know i should've jumped up and down and made a scene at the check out counter. Apparently you need to take pics of all these things or you get treated poorly by said manager Tabitha. If staying in Ottumwa, find somewhere else to stay the night, this place shouldn't be open during this construction. They should probably do some construction on their management team also.

I called another hotel to book a room. When I went to tell the front desk I was leaving, about six people were trying to check in. So I told her I couldn't stay here. She asked why in a gruff tone, and I told her, looking at all the people waiting, I don't think you want me telling you now. And in the morning, I called the manager, who didn't apologize but told me she had someone come out, and it wasn't bed bugs. Great! Glad to hear that, but I want my money back.
