I am not one who usually writes reviews but had such a great experience during our stay. We had family come from out of town during the harsh wind weather we had here in Portage and lost power. We had no choice than to call a local hotel for not only our guests but us as well. The front desk was so understanding and catered to our last minute needs. The whole staff went above and beyond to help us during our stay and made us feel at home. I love this place! read more

Gross and dirty hotel room. Linens were clean but comforter wasn't. Chair and room bench were stained and really just nasty. Room was damp even with the air running. So damp that clothes not zipped in suitcase were damp in the morning. read more

We checked in and sat in our room for 2 hours before discovering bed bugs. They had no extra rooms available and told us to find a new hotel. I had to pay almost 3x the price at 230 in the morning. Had to fight to get my money back on top of being double charged. The manager refused to do anything to compensate me for having to pack up and leave at 230am on top of the outrageous price I had to pay at the only hotel still open for reservations. When I asked to speak to someone above her she told me they refused to speak to me. I told her I would be contacting the health department where she snarky replied "that's fine, they get called often they just ask us for our pest control records". Apparently them having bed bugs is a normal issue. I would stay far away from this place! Between the doubling billing, fiasco to get refunded and the scare of bringing bugs home with me... Very frustrating! We booked our king bed with jacuzzi room through Travelocity a few weeks in advance. The day of, we gave a call to see if it were possible to check in early. The front counter said that the room actually was not available and she didn't know why Travelocity had it listed is an option, because the king bed with jacuzzi rooms were under construction. She told us to call Travelocity to cancel the room, because she could not for us. We called Travelocity and we're told that because we were canceling late, we'd still have to pay for the room. We were never contacted about the room not being available! It was so frustrating that absolutely no one contacted us at any point to communicate this. Travelocity verified with this hotel that we could cancel without any fees. We called the hotel back and requested we get a basic king room. I would've assumed that for our inconvenience and their lack of communication on their part, we should've received a discount for the last minute inconvenience, however we did not. When we arrived, the entire hotel was under construction!! The lady on the phone gave us the impression that it was only the jacuzzi rooms that were being renovated. Absolutely not! My stay consisted of stepping over buckets, walking through dust clouds, being woken up before 9am with electric saws and jack hammering. Loud music and yelling workers kept us up all morning! We had to rebook last minute, literally had 1 hour to panic and get at least 1 room since hearing that our room was not available. Because of this, we couldn't change our rooms or find another hotel in time. I have photo proof of the condition of the hotel, the construction EVERYWHERE. I am so unhappy with our stay, even with the condition of the hotel we were never offered a discount or told that the hotel would not be held to usual standards. Our pillow had a BLOOD stain (I also have a photo) the bathroom door had dark red stains like blood as well on it, another pillow had eyelash makeup stains and the blow dryer had brown questionable dirty marks all over it. I wish I could give this hotel zero stars. I never actually got to stay in the hotel because they charged my card and then said they never received my booking info? When I called to check the woman on the phone was EXTREMELY rude for absolutely no reason, it was very clear she didn't want to be there and didn't want to try to assist me in wondering why I spent $200 for a room I can't even stay in. I then tried to book again, my request was denied, ironic enough after the rude woman on the phone didn't want to help. I still have yet to get my money back, and don't see it happening at all in for foreseeable future. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a hotel. 0/10 recommend, find another hotel, this is a waste of time and clearly an opportunity to throw some money away! read more

Found old food in the fridge.light bulbs needs to be changed.there is a funky smell in the lobby. It is a big no for me. Just keep going.

Sometimes you have to realize that you get what you pay for. Truth be told - we went cheap and it showed. Hotel was clean but falling apart - breakfast was poor at best and it ends at 9AM (so much for sleeping in on the weekend) - bed was lumpy (old), pillows were the size of throw pillows and had seen better days - forget the internet service (speed wasn't even adequate). Not sure why this place is called "COMFORT" but there was nothing comfortable about it. Again, we got what we paid for......lesson learned. read more

We travel from PA to SD a few time per year, and we elect to stay here when we do. The rooms are basic, however the staff is not. The staff exceeds the service we received at any of the 5 star hotels we've stay at. The General Manager Kim is warm, personable, and very accommodating. The breakfast is prepared fresh and hot, and is constantly being replenished so you are not waiting for your desired choice. Everyone is very welcoming, and the beds are comfortable. The room although basic is incredibly clean. If you are looking a pleasant experience at a bargain price , you should stay here. read more

It was an ok hotel. Staff was friendly. The first room we got was not clean or someone else was still staying in it. The place is quite old, but they have random modern fixtures in the common area, which is odd. The rooms were big enough, but that's about it. Our pillow cases were dirty and had to be replaced. The wi-fi is slow as well. The room keys never worked and always had to be replaced. The breakfast is nothing to rave about. Frozen egg patties, sausage links, cereal, yogurt, muffins, waffles and juice. If you need a place to stay and won't be hanging out at the hotel during the day, it'll do. read more

Stay away, especially if you are sensitive to mold and poor customer service from the owner/operator. Booked 2 rooms for my family and we all woke up so sick with cold/allergy like symptoms. Inspected rooms very closely and found that the windows, bathroom, and ptac unit were covered in mold. Bathroom light on a 10 second timer and bathtub not cleaned at all. Blood and feces on walls, pillow, sheets, and comforters. Ptac unit and mini fridges weren't working correctly. Trash on floor behind all the furniture. The doors to both rooms didn't automatically close and lock. Both rooms were advertised as non-smoking but recked of cigarette smoke with yellowed smoke detectors. The night desk clerk, David, was the only highlight of our stay. He was the only employee working and was non-stop busy. He was friendly, and happy everytime we walked by. When we brought up our concerns with our stay, we were offered a 20 % discount and were told to leave immediately before the police were called by the owner/operator. It's been 3 days since our stay and 1/2 my family is needing to see their doctors for breathing issues. I can't believe Choice Hotels keeps this hotel under their flag! read more

Stay elsewhere for drama free rest! Room not made up at 10pm, waited an hour and a half to get to sleep. Computers/printer/system always down, wrong prices/room lock out multiple charges to your card. No linen service, when reminded forget, never come, too busy putting out fires elsewhere. Under construction but doesn't say on the website or anywhere when booking. Adding insult to injury hotel management is SORRY, they apologize but don't do anything for you! I had to fight with them to get back the overcharges to my card. Only a threat to call cops for credit card fraud got my refund of overcharge, but noting more..nada! Plenty of other rooms right up the road, unless you enjoy a hassle, then this is the place for you. read more

Nice hotel close to Route 80. Very friendly, helpful staff. Plus they offer more than a continental breakfast with Eggs ,Sausage, Make your own Waffle-Maker, Yogurt, Bagels, Muffins,, Juice and Coffee. The beds were clean, neat & extremely comfortable and the Heating / A/C worked great! We slept great & left for Chicago with full stomachs! read more

The General Manager, Kim at the Quality Inn said I had to pay cash to get a good rate for over a month's stay(June 18-Aug 1, 2019). Therefore, I complied. However, I had a family emergency on June 28, 2018. The General Manager said she would mail me a refund. They NEVER HAVE. I've called Comfort Suites complaining but because Quality Inn is independently owned, they could not help me. I telephoned Portage Police Officer D. Hudson and he said he is not surprised as they have received so many complaints about these new owners. I've called numerous times and physically went there and Kim, the General Manager would always say that the owner would talk to me when he gets back in town. Since June 28 through today's date, he has not responded. They also stole an expensive beach float, cooler and other items left in my room that they promised to hold for me. Stayed here two nights ago. If we wouldn't have had our dog with us we would of left this place!! Both best had stains on the sheets, but they just changed our room. The new room had one bed with stains on the sheets!!! The food in the morning was terrible as well. Just not worth the money! Don't stay here if you can help it. read more

I'm only giving it one star because the desk clerk was really nice. That being said, the room smelled of must and stale cigarette smoke. Paint chipped off walls and door looked like it had been kicked in at one time. Very noisy due to the active train tracks right beside the hotel. This was a $40 room at best but we were charged $109 plus tax. I would not recommend this to a friend read more

Clean, comfortable room...the gal at the front desk was friendly and helpful. Located right off of rte 80/90 it has a large parking lot if you are towing your car or trailer cross country. It is near the train tracks, so if you are a light sleeper you may want to go further into town by a couple of miles to avoid hearing the airhorn when it comes nearby... read more

Room was clean and the air worked well. It needs major updating and there is an aroma of stale cigarettes. They do accommodate pets but it's 20.00 a day extra. If you need a bed asap and don't care about how nice it is as long as its clean then this is it. They have breakfast. read more

Amazing! I stopped in after driving for 14 hours at about 7pm. The hotel was clean and he staff was very friendly. It was very quiet, and I was able to fall asleep fast. In the morning they had a great breakfast (eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, French toast, cereal, fruit, oatmeal, juice, milk... and more) which was much better than other hotels I've been in. Coffee and tea was always available. Overall one of the most comfortable hotels I've stayed at! Kudos for having a great staff and clean environment. read more

Not so sure why I'm giving it one star ... The smell of mold is horrible in my room.. I feel like the bed isn't much bigger then a twin bed. Thankfully they're clean!! The shower runs so slow you better no be running late, if so don't jump in the shower. The sink doesn't drain well which is gross... The towels have an smell to them .. If I were the one paying for this room I wouldn't be staying here .. It's cheap for a reason!!!! read more

Comfort inn in portage is easy to find, convenient to I94 and 80. Rooms - Nice, recently updated and comfortable. We had a two-queen room and the beds were really comfortable. Staff/other - Staff are friendly and active. Also, they had a nice common area and hot breakfast. Good value - and good location. read more

We were there for 2 nights. The room was run down, had water stains all over the ceiling, the wall paper was cut and repaired in many spots, the Formica on the dresser was peeling and there was blood on one of the shelves also no hangers in the closet and they didn't clean our room between day one and two. The only thing good I can say is the Customer Service Rep Sharon was incredibly nice and understanding. I was told that we would be compensation. As of now we have not heard a thing. read more

They allow pets, which is cool until someone like myself (allergic to cats) stays in a room that has a ton of cat hair all over it. The lady at the desk wasn't going to let me switch rooms until I threatened to stay elsewhere for the remainder of my business trip. She told me that it's my fault because I didn't let house keeping into my room....umm shouldn't the room be clean before I check in?! Beyond that the internet connection and cell phone service are terrible. I'm here for 10 days and can't even contact my family when I get out of work? Overall a terrible experience. read more

It's not bad - front desk is really nice. Coffee close by, grocery stores, gas, right off the highway, and welcome pets.
