A hotel that at one point must've been a jewel, truly what it calls itself: "a woodsy retreat.", is today in desperate need of renovation. By the decor, the hotel must've been built in the '50s or '60s and hasn't had much done to it since. You can clearly see where the paint was redone because it was done poorly and everything else is out-of-style and somewhat dilapidated. And at the around $150/night that I paid, certainly a regrettable stay. It does have charm and it is tranquil and quiet. If that's what you're looking for, you may be satisfied. But I was told that they're remodeling so, personally, I would wait.

4 cars in lot but no whirlpool suites available

Reserved a whirlpool suite for valentines day had our dog boarded and when we got there they had no reservation for us and no suites available.

This is a hidden gem for a nice getaway, the beach is nearby, casino, shopping, restaurants, etc! Very nice clean rooms. Be sure to book a room facing the woods and the rooms have nice balcony's. Swimming pool is great. The desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is better than most hotels. The place is not top notch when it comes to modern furnishings but they are renovating; personally the place has great character.

We have been staying at the Springhouse Inn since the late 90's early 2000's. It's a halfway point for us and our travels to Chicago and South Bend. We have always loved the woodsy setting and the country comfort feel of the place. Not to mention delicious dinners at Wagners around the corner!! This trip in mid October 2021 was our first trip back since 2012. When we left in 2012 we weren't sure if this place was going to survive due to the deteriorating condition it was in plus the lack of friendly staff. Well we were more than pleasantly surprised. Everything seems to be fresh - there is still work to be done but overall the Springhouse Inn is back!!! And we couldn't be happier. We had our favorite room with a gorgeous view of the woods and stream. It's so quiet too. We thought we were the only ones staying over the weekend it was so quiet but we weren't as noticed at breakfast! Kudos to the new owners for putting some love into the Springhouse Inn. It is such a special place and we look forward to our next stay to see the newest updates. The staff was amazing. So friendly and helpful - thank you all!!! Cheers!!!

I've been here 4 days and I've yet to see an employee. Housekeeping hasn't stopped by. The pool looks like a portapotty. My bagel is half cooked. And something just bit my leg. If Tyler leaves a cup of coffee on the desk every morning for housekeeping, how many days has it been since they stopped by? See photos for answer.

Pool is very dangerous, blue dye in the water and when the kids dive down you cannot see them with the additional overhead lighting glare.

Pool is very dangerous. There is blue dye of some sort in the water and when the kids dive down you can't see them. It is especially difficult because the light reflects of water additionally making them hard to see. The pool is not a gradual decent from 3' to 5' so a 3' kid is going to be over their head quickly. Make sure you are watching your kids VERY closely and do not let them swim alone. You can see this in my photo as my daughter is in the center of the pool with black bathing suit and all you can see is her foot just sticking out of the water.

Very nice staff and great stay for the price. The beds were quite comfortable and I slept with no issues. The place is clean and they have amenities like a fitness room and heated pool and sauna. Continental breakfast is also included. The Indiana dunes park is also only about a 7-9 minute drive away. Great place and great value!

Amazing stay, amazing experience. The setting is beautiful, the inn is so cozy and such a throwback. I absolutely love it. The rooms were spacious and clean, the breakfast was delicious, the staff was very courteous. We will definitely be back. If I could, would definitely rate higher than 5 stars!

This inn has key-less doors, so make sure you memorize your codes for both the front door and your room. The front door needs to be locked manually, and your room door stay locked, so burn those numbers into memory or on the mobile phone you have with you. I stayed at the Porter Queen room - nice wood floors, has an A/C unit & heat for supplemental cooling/heating, bed is nice and comfortable without bugs or it being too hard or soft, mini-kitchen was nice for warming up leftovers or what nots, bathroom was basic and did the job nicely - no shampoo or conditioner, but a bar of soap is provided. Towels were provided in decent abundance. Room is nice, albeit a bit spartan. Note that I did the reservation via online, but had to talk to the owner/administrator. I forgot her name, but she was pleasant, and got it paid via credit card over the phone without issue. No one is staffed at the house, and is all dealt with "remotely" - but this works well as I arrived to the house clean, the email instructions very clear, and the room ready. Nearest restaurant or stores are about 5 minutes away if you want food, sundries, etc. I brought leftovers from lunch and that did me fine for the rest of the night. No free breakfast or what nots, unless if you arranged to purchase a snacking "package" with your reservation. Parking for 4-5 vehicles are available in front of the house, cannot comment on the lot a block away. Definitely a good place for some piece of quiet, isolation, or a 2-4 days stay for a couple. No one was apparently there during my stay, so cannot comment if the walls are too thin or if house rules are respected or not. Mobile signals are decent for Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile, so no problems with your calls or mobile web browsing. Anyone using the antiquated WiMaxx (Clear & Sprint) will NOT have coverage. Onsite Wifi is available and free, though I could not connect to it for whatever reason. Will come back again! (and sorry for the tl;dr)

I was a little reluctant to stay at a historic mansion, thinking that "historic" might actually mean "run down." That was not the case here at all. The interior is classic, yet modern. We stayed in the Queen Porter Room and it was lovely, quaint and well designed. Our bed was comfortable, and clean. We loved the kitchenette, equipped with a fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and sink. I love that the proprietors send you a code for the front door and the room door ahead of your stay so you don't have to bother with checking in at a front desk. It really made us feel like we were guests at a country home rather than just customers checking into a hotel. The only downsides: paper thin walls and spotty wireless. We could only get reception in the lounge area on the second floor, but we weren't spending a lot of time online anyway. On our second night there were quite a lot of children running around and screaming. So while it's perfect for a romantic getaway, keep in mind that a lot of families are renting rooms in the summer. Other than that, we loved it! We definitely plan on staying here if we visit again.

The room was very large, almost like it was meant for two queen beds, but just had the king. The hotel was showing its age, but it was clean and that's really what's most important. The bed was comfortable enough, and I had a nice quiet room. Disliked · Breakfast wasn't stellar, but it was passable. I noticed a lot of single men staying here, which made me slightly uncomfortable as a woman traveling alone. During check-in the guy at the desk announced my room number out loud while a shady looking guy was waiting behind me. It made me feel uncomfortable. I did make a suggestion to the girl at the desk in the morning, that it might be something to consider - not stating a single woman's room number out loud when she is clearly alone and there are men hanging around.

Our room was never done during our stay, we told housekeeping before going out, and removed the door tag. Expressed our discontent to front desk, and also the broken sheets, they gave us half of it and rolled their eyes as if what's the big deal it's just a hole in the comforter. After a long nice day from Lullapeluza and visiting the Indiana Dunes, went to our room for us to tend make the beds and clean as much as we could, tired from a long day, as they did not serviced it after the fact they were told. Management (Jay), does not want to take accountability and only offered 10,000 points, equivalent to a $25 gift card, when we paid top dollar, $205 per night for this. Breakfast is mediocre, no bacon at all and they would runout of coffee quick. Now management refuses to honor the points because we left an unhappy feedback on their site. Air conditioner has mold, if you have any of lung condition, asthma etc, do not stay here, borderline a health hazard. I am not been picky, but when you pay more than $200 per night for a master suite, I expect at least average service. No, I did not went on vacation to clean a room for a service I am paying for. The reason for this feedback, for others to be aware of the hotel mediocre conditions and service.

And the hot breakfast was pretty good: they were serving sliced maple sausage links, scrambled eggs, and western potatoes the first morning, and then sausage patties, western omelets, and potatoes the 2nd morning. Aside from that, they had a waffle maker, Quaker oatmeal packets, cereal, plain bagels/white bread to toast, bananas, Yoplait yogurt, 1% milk, a juice machine, and then a coffee station in the lobby. The lady refilling the food stations was very friendly and did her job well. However, my friend and I noticed many poor design choices in the room (211) that was supposed to be newly renovated (at least I was told that the renovations in the rooms were all done): strange faucet placement in the corner so that your hand bumps the sink when you're washing; bathtub walls sloped inward so you have to do a balancing act while showering; no hooks in bathroom to hang towels or clothes; bathroom fan was very noisy and didn't seem to do much; bathroom door lock didn't work; room deadbolt was finnicky and I had to push/pull the door to the perfect configuration to lock it; no drawers or closet to put any belongings; fitted bed sheets were way too shallow for the mattress and kept popping off; and TV wouldn't let my Amazon fire stick connect to the internet. The lounge chair also looked like it was in rough shape, so I didn't use it (sat on the ottoman instead). I had read bad reviews for this place that made me nervous, but thankfully we didn't run into any major problems! My understanding is that management changed sometime last year, so evidently, that made a real difference. All in all a suitable stay, but might need another renovation in the rooms!
