Absolutely appalling. Our room was filthy: stained mattresses, stained sheets, shredded curtains, a bathroom door that wouldn't close, damp carpets and furniture, and the room smelled vaguely like urine. I've been in cleaner subway cars. We didn't put it together right away, but soon realized this location is literally being used as a homeless shelter...and not a very well run one. We were there for about an hour trying to find another place to stay, and in utter disbelief that a hotel room could be this awful. Police showed up as we were leaving. I arrived at 8PM. The parking lot was strewn with garbage. Cups on ledges everywhere. Grassy areas covered in personal belongings and 2 guys in camp chairs smoking right outside the entrance. I asked the girl if the place was safe and she said, "What do you mean" oblivious I guess to the condition outside. She then told me the second floor is used as a homeless shelter every night. I said I wouldn't be staying and was told I had to go through Expedia for a refund. As I was leaving 2 vehicle loads of people were dropped off with their bags of belongings. The hotel should not be accepting travelers if it's going to be used in this manner. Choice Hotels should be ashamed. read more

Breakfast consisted of waffles and coffee. No milk, no cereal, no toast, no yogurt. The room had a damp carpet, although the ac ran all night and was pleasantly quiet. There was a mouse scratching under the bed, rust in the bathroom and people smoking outside the front entrance. The trash can by our sliding glass door was overflowing onto the ground. Another above-average-but-no-thrills stop in our cross country trip. It didn't stand out with any real extras or anything, but it felt safe, was conveniently located and was clean. Stayed here three nights and didn't take any photos (sorry, next time) The new management group has updated the tubs, showers and beds. Rooms were clean and comfortable, good quality sheets and pillows. Breakfast still lacking (pre-packaged due to Covid) but a reasonable place to stay in the area. Three nights (Friday through Sunday) cost $260 including all taxes and fees. Will definitely be back again next year. read more

This review is four years overdue, although I have to say their reasonable price, comfort and great vibe delivered an enjoyable experience. I was here for the 2016 Chautauqua International Film Fest in Jamestown. After flying from LAX to Erie, a Greyhound to Buffalo, to my Coach USA arrival, the front-desk lady Tammy was welcoming. She was kind checking me in acknowledging my journey from Long Beach, California. My room was tidy and spacious, conveniently right off the stairwell. Upon ready for the event, Tammy even called me a Taxi-Van who was a friendly guy mentioning local hot spots while driving me to the event. The following morning's breakfast of waffles and pancakes were good, I also remember arriving back late between 2-3am and a staff member would always greet me. All those things add up to the overall experience. Since I had a tight schedule, I didn't get to fully relax and enjoy the hotel as I wanted. Furthermore when I revisit Jamestown, I will most likely stay here because of the "Southern Tier hospitality". Pro's - close to the things I wanted to visit. Got free breakfast Bed soft and pillows good. Air conditioner the first night. Plenty of hot water. Free cookies. Flat screen tv. Microwave. Refrigerator. Con's - someone febreezed my room, but could still smell smoke. My room was not vacuumed or dusted. Candy all over my carpet. Cobwebs in every corner of the room. Hallway smelled of smoke, also not vacuumed. Air conditioner stopped working on the second night of my stay. No elevator. Ice machine on bottom floor. Had to hunt for it. No book in my room to tell me where things were. Considering how dirty the rest of the room was, makes me wonder about whether sheets and towels are clean. A couple of other thoughts. House keeping came in to make my bed and give me new towels. I didn't receive any new soaps or shampoos, and the ones that were in the bathroom were gone. Lucky I had my own supplies. Would I stay here again? No, No one should check into a hotel that is this dirty. I thought about leaving a tip for housekeeping, but decided to leave a note instead. Overwhelming toxic odors in the rooms. Bad customer service Rooms overwhelmingly reek of toxic chemicals/cleaning products that triggered a bad migrane within minutes and eventually nausea. Hallways also posses a strong musty odor poorly masked with chemicals. Bathroom showers are also not adequately cleaned. After being in the room for 20-25 minutes, trying to air it out by leaving the sliding door wide open and running the AC, we had no choice but to leave because the foul smell wasn't dissipating whatsoever and we could not sleep there despite how exhausted we were. Staff refused to provide refund because we stayed in the room "longer than 15 minutes after check in." Alternate room offered also had the same problems, and then some... The man working the front desk checked our first room and claimed it was fine, stating he didn't "see" anything wrong with it. He clearly must have shut me out as soon as I asked for a refund because I stressed how fowl and toxic the room smelled 3 separate times. He also assumed that I confused a poorly cleaned bathtub with tub floor's textured design. No; the tub, the shower walls, and the metal hardware in particular all were unclean. He also offered to move us to another room before taking back his offer, on the grounds that I gave him an "attitude". I was never rude nor did I have a bad attitude. I simply stated the problems with the room and how I felt a refund was rightfully owed because we could not stay there due to the hazardous circumstances. He didn't care that the room's air quality had made us unwell and kept repeating "15 minute rule....15 minute rule....15 minute rule. Call my manager who by the way isn't available right now." This young man was the one who began acting with snide as soon as I let him know that I would not accept refusal of a refund given the circumstances. We've stayed at a Red Roof Inn property in Florida before and had no issues, hence why we figured we'd try Red Roof again on our trip to New York. Unfortunately this was the wrong location to try. This Red Roof Inn location is at the very least a health hazard. Do not risk your health or your sleep trying to stay here. Management has trained her staff solely to collect/make money, not to (reasonably) accommodate or care for guests. They could care less if their toxic cleaning practices (or lack thereof) affect your health. Oh, and the hotel parking lot is where sketchy-looking locals come to hang out and smoke marijuana in their cars at 2AM. I saw 2 different parties pull up and do this during the short time I was here. Management obviously does not care to keep such individuals off the premises, and thereby compromises the safety of her customers and their vehicles/property. As was expected for the price, rooms are very basic and very much in need of updating. I don't mind that, but no one should have to deal with volatile toxic chemicals during a hotel stay, followed by poor, uneducated customer service with complete disregard for your safety when you voice your concerns. Save yourself the headache (literally) and avoid this place. read more

Their rep told us changing reservations is "against [their] policy." We weren't denied because of no vacancies -- they just won't allow reservation changes, period. Well, it's a hotel. My husband stays here every summer for the past 20 some years and I haven't been here in 23 years. It's fine. I'm more into fancier places to stay than this, but for some reason the price of hotels is skyrocketing and the amenities or cleanliness isn't keeping up. For close to $100/night I expect more than stinky hallways, bad paint jobs and rooms that need a drastic makeover. But, I have been in worse, so I know it isn't scraping the bottom of the barrell. Lol. They do allow pets for no fees which is a plus, and they do an adequate breakfast included which I also like. The staff has been very friendly and accommodating so that goes a long way. I'm sure my husband will be back again, me, we shall see. Hoping for a renovation before then. It needs it badly. read more

I have been staying here for once a year for the last 4 yeast except last year because of Covid. This year the beds we're updated and looks very inviting. My room was clean and the bathrooms were very satisfactory. You can't beat the free breakfast and coffee! Tonya and the staff are on top of their game. The price is more than fair. read more

Probably not a good thing when as you're checking in, the police show up to deal with someone in their room. Other than that, the room was clean and the staff was friendly. Yes, it was quiet too. No Norman Bates wannabes running around either. Would I stay here more than a couple days here? Probably not. But it served its purpose as a place to lay my head down for the night. For the price this place is a steal! Saying that.....it's certainly not a 4 star hotel....or a 3 star.....heck or 2 star but the rooms are clean and it cost half of the hotels around it cost. I echo others: no frills and cheaper than everything else. The rooms are fairly clean... My comforter did have a cigarette hole in it and our soap was opened but that's the worst of it. The Bad: The hall (as well as my non-smoking room) smelled like smoke. Loud guests all three nights I was there. There is no elevator anywhere (Have luggage? You'll have to carry it up the stairs). The towels are thin and cheap. The bath faucet handles are at least 20 years old. My magnetic card door opener stopped working every day I was there (3 nights) which meant a walk back down to the front desk. The walls are so thin, you can hear everything your neighbors say and do. The bathroom counter was not cleaned very well. The ventilation is bad--for example, a guest down the hallway microwaved popcorn, and I could smell it through my vent. Bad decor in rooms. Small televisions. No microwaves in room. Stiff pillows that are too thick. Some freeway noise. The Good: Friendly front counter employees. New shower curtains. Decent beds. Newer carpet in rooms. We were heading to Jamestown to see the Lucy Museum and comedy center. It was Labor day weekend, late at night and most everything was sold out. We had just left a different hotel that night after a bad enough experience that we left without knowing where we were going to stay.. But we spoke to the front desk over the phone and he was very helpful and reassuring. When we got there, he quickly checked us in to a clean, quiet room. Breakfast was good. At one point after a rush of guests came through, some supplies / food needed restocking. I heard 2 people bemoaning the missing utensils, etc. to each other. Rather than gripe, why not just mention it to the staff? I did that, they quickly restocked things and hopefully the guests enjoyed their meals as we did. After getting burned by the other hotel, this was a great reassurance that there ARE quality properties out there with people that care. read more

My boyfriend and I were passing through late hours on our way to a music festival and decided to stop here. I've stayed at Red Roof in in St. Louis before and it was disgusting, but this one was much better. We stayed in a general King suite, and it was very comfortable and clean. I was a little put off that night when they were having problems dividing the payments (I paid half with cash, half with card) and in the morning I was overcharged $25 bucks on my statement and the desk clerk insisted that she didn't do it. I ended up having to call the bank and dispute it, but I do believe that she really didn't do it. I believe it was a mix up with the computer system and not something done intentionally. We stayed there again on our way back home to Chicago as well, stopping at about 230 am, and the desk clerk (I'm thinking his name was Matt) was extremely nice and this room was also very clean and comfortable. One thing that really bothered me this time was that I'd left my pillow in the room (my own pillow from home) and I ran back in to get it, literally only a minute after we walked out. The clerk this time was a younger woman, who handed me a key and told me rudely to 'hurry up'. Hurry up? We had literally just walked outside, why the need to 'hurry'? As I passed back through 30 seconds later with my pillow, I said, 'Sorry about that' and set the key on the counter and she wouldn't even look at me! She acted like I was stealing from the room or something, it was not professional at all, and I didn't understand what I'd done wrong. Was I wrong for going back and getting my own pillow? I don't get it. Assuming that we probably won't be going back to NY anytime soon, we probably won't be going back there, but if need be, we would stay here again. If you stay here, just make sure you don't accidently leave any belongings in your room by accident because you will seriously piss off the young woman at the front desk when you nicely ask to go retreive it for whatever reason. read more

Staff was very friendly and helpful upon check in and room was spacious and clean. Free WiFi and a good free breakfast rounded out the stay nicely. The hotel comes at a great price but was certainly less than what my wife and I expected. We were in town for a wedding and booked a King room during our stay. The hotel staff was not very welcoming. They checked us in but seemed happy to have us leave the desk so they could continue with whatever else they needed to do. Had the same experience checking-in and checking-out. The stairs and hallways were noticeably dirty and in need of a vacuum. The hotel was a bit outdated and smelled musty and a bit smokey. The room was clean but smelled a lot like smoke to the point it bothered my wife's asthma. We drove around town to get some fresh air and some Febreeze which we drenched the carpets with. It was a lot better after that. Left the card for housekeeping in reference to the smell but only received a new blank card and nothing else. I would have asked for a new room but considering the halls and lobby smelled like smoke too, I doubted we would be placed in a room that smelled better enough to out weigh having to pack up all our things and inhabit a new room. Good things include that there was plenty of parking, room and bathroom was clean (although we did over hear someone else complaining about the lack of cleanliness in their room), tv was newer, worked well and had plenty of channels, and their wifi was free (don't know many hotels that don't offer this) and worked well. Not a bad place if you need to find an overnight room and you understand not to expect too much. Our friends stayed at the Hampton and had a great experience and great room. Will probably stay there next time. The extra $30 is worth not having breathing issues. read more

We had to run the water for 30 minutes before it would get hot to shower. A/C heating units should be cleaned. We had to spray ours with Lysol because of a funny smell coming out of it. Room smelled like smoke and the cleaner they used caused breathing issues. However, the room itself was clean and the tv and Wifi worked great. Thus the reason for the 2 stars. One for cleanliness and one for TV and internet. I would not stay here again. Next town over had a Hampton Inn where friends stayed, would prolly stay there next time we come. I booked a room here for one night and was very pleased with the service as well as the room. I was traveling with my dog, and could not have had a better accommodation. I had a first floor room with a sliding glass door leading right outside which was very convenient for bringing my dog in and out of the room. The room and beds were comfortable and clean. I wound up leaving my dog's insulin in the mini-fridge when I left and didn't realize it until I had made it home. I was not able to make the 2 hour round trip to pick it up that day, but wanted to get it at some point since it's a fairly expensive medication. I called the hotel and spoke to Tammy at the front desk. She let me know the cleaning staff had found it and that she had already placed it in the employee breakroom fridge for me. She put a note on the medication and said she'd keep it in the fridge until I could make it back. The following Friday I picked it up and the girl at the front desk (whose name I forgot unfortunately) knew exactly what I was talking about and ran back to grab it for me. I was very grateful that the staff had taken such good care of that tiny little vial of insulin since it comes with a $45 price tag! Overall the hotel isn't a bad place to stay, the rooms are a reasonable size and you do get free breakfast in the morning, the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because of the staff and all the problems they caused us during our stay. Our shower started to make a loud humming noise like something was wrong with the pipes and by the end of the shower there was no water coming out of the shower head anymore because the pressure was so low. The manager came to our door and banged on the door and said "FRONT DESK" super loud like she was the police or something then continued to undermine us and blame us that the pipes weren't working, she did eventually apologize and was nice enough to give us a free night at the hotel. The first and only time we had maid service our phone charger was stolen, and when we went to front desk they "found it" behind the counter. The majority of the staff here wouldn't know hospitality if it hit them in the face. The staff never says hello or good morning or anything, you get dirty looks instead. An old lady working started to block off the kitchen with chairs and I asked if I could get coffee really quick and she literally looked at me rolled her eyes and sighed in my face and pushed the chairs out of the way and didn't say anything, she then did the same thing to my boyfriends mom. If you're going to work in customer service I'm pretty sure the first rule is don't be a bitch. She could have easily said sure and moved the chair but this woman who is no younger than 65 years old acted like a bratty 12 year old and rolled her eyes at me. There were nice workers, most of the younger workers were really nice and even apologized for the old lady's faults when she didn't have to. I wouldn't stay here ever again. read more
