When I picked up the car from the agency in Austin, one tire was down 7 pounds relative to the rest. The rental agent and I tried looking for a nail, but couldn't find one. That was a bad omen, but I agreed to try airing it up. The tire held pressure for several hours, so I proceeded with my trip. By the second afternoon, after driving some rocky county roads, the tire had lost another 7 pounds. After airing up again and taking a 30 mile trip, the tire had lost 9 pounds. By the next morning, the tire was almost on the rim. Roadside assistance was little help other than to direct me to the nearest corporate Firestone store or the nearest rental agency to exchange the car. Trouble was, those locations were 30 miles or more away. I decided to check with these folks on recommendations of mutual friends, at least to get a determination if the tire was safe. A patch would have been under $17, totally worth my time=money equation not to have to spend an hour on the road, not to mention the safety aspect. Unfortunately, it had an unrepairable nail puncture in the sidewall groove and had to be replaced. Because this location was a Firestore-authorized retailer and not a corporate location, I couldn't work a deal with Hertz Roadside Assistance other than to have me pay $132 for a new tire and trust the local agency to reimburse me upon return. But, for $5, these kind folks did make the diagnosis, put on the spare, and aired it up. That was a bargain considering I didn't have to get out the jack and get sweaty and dirty. There aren't many options in this small town, other than WalMart and Strouhal's in nearby Hungerford, so I guess they have to treat people right. The entire staff couldn't have been more helpful, pleasant, or honest. While I can't attest to the total tire buying and ownership experience with Wharton County Tire, I can say they're down-home folks who really know how to help a stranger in need. Recommended.

Can feel like the weight of the world just fell on you and then you're forced to find a nearby solution but gotta say: Richard and Big Tows not only offers that affordable solution but more importantly; a savior! My very best employee, who also happens to be the youngest, just began working for the company and within the first month of his start date he was forced to call me and regret to inform me that he would not be able to make it into work which of course I was very frustrated to learn but then he told me that he was stuck on the side of the road because he was actually already on his way to work (early) and had a serious [scary] break down so then my frustration immediately shifted into concern for him and I asked if he was okay and if there was something I could do to help which of course he said he was fine and that it was his to figure out but I pulled the "boss" card and insisted but he explained "there is no way you'll be able to find someone to come out here in the middle of the highway nowhere near either nearby city and especially not at this hour before 0600 am!" And at that point I even lost hope, especially after trying to make some calls to find someone but then I stumbled across Big Tows and the rest is history! Richard made the entire process so very easy and was able to locate the vehicle even with our limited description and he just put us both at ease; not only offering clear expertise throughout the entire process but did so with a smile and genuine friendliness that was so very needed in that moment. So fast forward two years and of course that "new" employee now runs the show and he's not just an employee anymore but now considered family and honestly I gotta say the same for Richard and Big Tows because they have been our "go to" every single time we're in need and not only just once or twice but nearly a dozen times across multiple vehicles and multiple people we have sent their way but every single time they show up its always just like that very first time: truly a Godsend offering the very best service without the outrageous price tag; you have to give them a call and you'll be singing their praises just as much as we do!

Her Toyota Highlander has been great and reliable transportation for her and her music equipment... until last night. On her way home (Dickinson area) from a gig in Palacios TX, she had an electrical system malfunction, that resulted in the motor dying (among other things). Thankfully, the band leader and his wife were there to park behind her and push her car off to the side, out of the lane of traffic. The first tow company they called was unavailable, but they recommended Richard Valdez of Big Tows who thankfully was on duty and available. He was there in less than 10 minutes, had her loaded on his heavy-duty flatbed quickly and began the 98 mile (per Google) trip toward home. I can't even adequately express how grateful we all were to find Richard and Big Tow. Getting to know him personally was even better. My wife said on the phone that he was extremely kind, reassuring and immediately got her into his cab out of the night air and potential traffic danger. Once they were here at our house, I found out everything she said was true; friendly, funny, professional and very fair. I could go on longer, but to conclude, if I lived ANYWHERE near El Campo and needed a tow at any time of night or day, I would absolutely call Richard first (uploaded a pic of his business card). And, even though we live about a hundred miles from there, I guarantee he will be our first call if we ever need a tow anywhere, because you never know if he might be available. This husband is so very grateful to Richard for being so kind and reassuring to my wife, who was experiencing her first breakdown, at night, in unfamiliar territory.
