After a glowing recommendation from an OB I work with and trust I decided to look into birthing with Mary. From the first visit Mary and Ellen conveyed confidence, compassion, experience and humor. It was clear that a safe birth was the top priority even over achieving a home birth if necessary. Her experience and philosophy of birth gave us confidence in trusting her with our care. Best decision ever. During labor Mary was so in tune with me and my progress she recommended a cervical check at just the right time to address a stall on progress caused by my posterior cervix. This timely intervention saved me from potential hours of exhausting and unproductive labor. After just 5 hours and in the comfort of my own home our daughter was born into Mary's loving hands. During pushing Mary took care to prevent perineal lacerations and after delivery she took steps to mitigate risk of postpartum hemorrhage for which I have a history. Both allowed me to experience the best postpartum recovery yet! By the time Mary and Ellen left, my daughter and I were clean and fed, our home looked as if nothing had even happened and I got to sleep in my own bed knowing help, advice and encouragement was just a text away. Mary is truly invested in the care and wellbeing of her moms and babies from the first visit through the postpartum period and beyond. Hearing Mary speak of her identity as a midwife is inspiring. To her midwifery is a calling, a way of life and a service to her community. It's a part of who she is to the core. I am so thankful to her and can't imagine birthing any other way.

I wanted someone who could help me understand my options, prepare for labor, and provide support beyond what I expected from my medical team. Hiring a doula gave me the reassurance that I wouldn't have to navigate the experience alone. Knowing Michelle would be there to guide, educate, and encourage me made me feel much more confident and prepared going into my first birth. After that, having a doula, for me, was a non-negotiable. Michelle has been by my side for the births of all three of my children, and I can't imaging a birth without her. Each experience was so unique and different, but her support, knowledge, and encouragement were invaluable every single time. I wanted unmedicated births, and Michelle gave me the confidence, preparation, and tools I needed to achieve that goal. During labor, she knew exactly how to support me physically and emotionally, helping me stay focused and calm through some of the most challenging moments. When I doubted myself, she reminded me of my strength and helped me trust my body. What sets Michelle apart is that she doesn't just show up on the day of your birth. She invests in her clients, provides evidence-based information, answers questions, and helps you feel empowered to make decisions that are right for you and your family. Her presence brought a sense of peace and confidence that benefited not only me, but also my husband. She helped my husband understand my needs and how to be a source of strength. She guided him through ways to encourage and comfort me during labor, which allowed us to work together as a team and made the experience even more positive. Because of Michelle's support, I look back on all three of my birth experiences with gratitude and pride. If you're considering hiring a doula, I wholeheartedly recommend the Modern Momma team; they are compassionate, knowledgeable, professional, and truly passionate about helping mothers have positive and empowering birth experiences.

When my wife's water broke, we let the doula know and headed to the hospital. She was also told my wife was contracting. Despite knowing all of this, the doula never came and never once called to check in. We went through the birth of our son without the support we had paid for and counted on. What happened afterward was just as disappointing. Rather than taking responsibility, we were told it was our fault for not explicitly instructing her to come -- even though she knew we were at the hospital and in labor. Instead of accountability we were blamed for not "telling her to come" -- as if a laboring mother at the hospital isn't signal enough. When we asked to speak with the owner, no one had the courtesy to call us directly.

When we first found out we were…read morepregnant we weren't sure which route we were going to take - home birth, birth center or hospital, however we really wanted to use a midwife either way in hopes of keeping our birth as natural as possible. We first met with Connie and she was amazing at explaining their midwifery model, and how they do prenatal care, birth and postpartum care. Throughout the remainder of our pregnancy we got to know both her and Erin better - the love and care they have for all their mammas blew us away! We love how they offered a birth class, during glucose testing they held another "class" walking us through the many options & resources we had regarding birth & caring for our babies. We also love how their team has an in office lactation consultant who met with us before baby even came & gave so much great insight regarding setting up my breastfeeding journey for success. Best of all, it's such a family practice and we were told countless times that our baby was loved and prayed for! :) When it came time for labor, my water broke - Erin was quick to get us in to check, confirm it was my water and walk us through some natural ways to induce labor. The next day we ended up back at the birth center where I was able to labor with free movement, the option to eat/drink, and with Erin there available to help coach my husband & I through different ways to work through contractions & progress labor. After laboring all day, my body wasn't going past 7cm so we had the conversation about options for transferring to a hospital to get induced. At this point, Connie had taken over and was AMAZING at walking us through our options and allowing us to make the call to transfer. Once we decided that would be best for us, she contacted our preferred hospital, and got all of our records over to them. We ended up giving birth to our beautiful baby boy in the hospital a few hours later. Despite our transfer, Connie still stayed completely available for us for any questions that came up. There was never a moment where we felt Connie & Erin didn't have our best interest in mind. They cared so well for us, and we are so grateful to have had our prenatal care, a good amount of labor time, and my postpartum care with them! Although it wasn't the birth we originally imagined, it all worked out so perfectly and we felt SO much peace through it all thanks to Canyon Midwifery!

Through the course of my pregnancy Morgann and her assistants listened, gave great recommendations and made my little family feel welcome. Her office is beautifully set up for children to play quietly while we go through our appointment, she has snacks available for the mamas who need it, and it feels just professional enough while being cozy and welcoming.

I…read moreknew within minutes of chatting with Morgann (I was only 8 weeks pregnant at the time!) that she was the right midwife for us! She is caring, strong, so well informed, a perfect blend of hands-off physiological support with modern medicine, and she's wonderfully fun and wholesome. We had the privilege of working with Deidra as well and I adored her sweet and caring nature. I always looked forward to seeing them both and I'll miss seeing them regularly now! Morgann and Deidra have been such an incredible foundation to our birth team and we couldn't ask for better midwives to help us bring our first baby into this world. We felt so loved, supported, informed, and empowered throughout our experience to make the best choices pre and postnatal for myself, our family, and our sweet baby girl. In the midst of a very long, first labor Morgann gave me some of the best motherhood insight I think I'll ever receive-- she encouraged introspective thinking and gently guided me in knowing and trusting in my own "mother's intuition" vs personal anxiety/fear. This insight helped me make a tough choice to choose an intervention I hadn't wanted initially (breaking my waters), but ultimately was the right choice for me and my daughter, Ruby to finally progress our labor and deliver her despite my own anxiety over how it may intensify labor which already felt overwhelming. Our conversation around this was quiet, loving, gentle, compassionate and had zero pressure. It still brings me to tears to think about and I'll cherish it forever! Morgann is not just a medical support, she has celebrated in our joy, she has been a shoulder to cry on (in labor and in postpartum as my husband struggled with life threatening medical issues), she's given clarity, choice and informed consent, and she's no-nonsense direct when it's needed (like when our baby decided at 39 weeks to be breech for a bit!). So invaluable! Thank you, to both Morgann and Deidra for your love and support. Our family is so blessed to know you. I feel tremendously happy for every family in the future who will be supported by you and God willing, we'll see you again soon for baby #2!

So, about 10 weeks before I was due I started the search for another doula and came across both Lora, and Chelsea, individually. I contacted them and they let me know they had recently teamed up and were available. We had a zoom call with them and my husband and I decided to book them for our August birth. Chelsea & Lora came for a home visit in June, so we could meet them and discuss initial ideas about my labor/birth/etc. They both brought their individual strengths and so much knowledge. They then came back a few weeks before I was due to discuss plans for when i went into labor, comfort measures, etc. They were both there any other time my husband and I had a question throughout the whole process as well. I had a long, long (44 hour) labor and we (mainly my husband) were in contact with Chelsea/Lora the entire time. About 22 hours in, once the pain had gotten pretty bad, Lora came to our house at 8pm. She quietly supported us and helped get through the contractions. At midnight, Chelsea swapped in so Lora could get some rest. Chelsea encouraged me to keep moving and try different things to help progress labor. When we thought it was time to go to the birth center, Chelsea came with us. When I finally ended up being admitted, Lora was the doula who ultimately joined us at the birth center- and spent over 12 hours there with us. I had mentioned during one of our previous meetings that I would love it if the doula who was present could snap some pictures during the day of labor/birth- I wasn't looking for anything too fancy or professional but just wanted some iphone pics. Lora went above and beyond, using her own camera to take lots of pictures and a video of the birth- which we haven't seen yet but are so excited for! Both Lora & Chelsea truly went above and beyond, and are a perfect complementary team. They came for a 2 week postpartum visit and it felt like having friends over to meet the baby- we cannot recommend them and their services enough & will definitely be using them for baby 2!

However, I did encounter one very rude phlebotomist (the heavy-set Caucasian woman who worked in the small office near the bathrooms). Every single time she took my labs. Don't work in healthcare if you have a negative attitude. What truly broke my trust was what happened with my sister, who I referred here because I believed she would be well cared for. She suffered a miscarriage, and instead of providing compassionate and thorough care, the office repeatedly gave her medication to pass the pregnancy without success. Her concerns and fears were consistently dismissed with reassurances that "everything would be fine." Shockingly, they never performed an ultrasound to confirm that the pregnancy tissue had passed. This went on for months. Ultimately, my sister ended up in the ER, where it was discovered that there was still retained tissue, and that the baby had been inside her for three months. I am horrified that her life was put at such serious risk of infection and complications due to the negligence of this office. To make matters worse, one of the doctors even told my sister that "ultrasounds were too expensive" when she asked for confirmation that the tissue was gone. Because she is non- confrontational, she didn't push back, but the ER nurses were shocked at how poorly this situation was handled. The ER reviewed her medical notes and confirmed how severely she had been neglected. My sister ended up having to get a D&C at the ER where they pulled out A LOT of tissue. I am disappointed. For that reason, I will not be coming back. If I were ever to experience a complicated pregnancy or miscarriage, I know this office would not take my concerns seriously or provide the care needed. It is truly unfortunate, but I can no longer trust this place, and now I have to find care elsewhere.

I went to my appointment at 40 weeks, and we decided to schedule another appointment for the following week to discuss the option of induction if the baby did not come. When the baby didn't arrive, I went for my appointment, but the receptionist informed me that Dr. Brotsky had gone on vacation and wouldn't return for a week. I understand that people have lives, but this information hadn't been communicated to me, and I was 41 weeks pregnant. I felt abandoned. I wanted to speak with a nurse practitioner at least to ensure the baby's safety, but they told me I didn't need to talk to anyone and instructed me to call the hospital in three days to schedule an induction. I experienced a lot of anxiety waiting for the baby and having no backup plan. Three days later, the hospital called me and asked me to come in within 40 minutes because apparently, Dr. Brotsky had scheduled an induction for me, but no one had informed me. We rushed to the hospital. Dr. Brotsky returned for the birth even though I had been told she was gone for a week. After practicing pushing with her a few times, she left me with the nurse. I had an epidural so I was not feeling contractions and the monitor was not working and not reading them. I was pushing but not making progress. When I asked Dr. Brotsky to come back, she responded with, "How can I help you?" when I was so vulnerable and needed guidance and support. Once she arrived, my baby was born in 20 minutes. So she could have helped by simply doing her job!!! I am grateful that both my baby and I are healthy, but I couldn't have the birth I had envisioned because of poor communication and planning. I don't recommend Dr. Brotsky. While she seems to care, it feels insincere, and in reality, she does not seem to prioritize her patients' needs.
