We just completed our final postpartum visit with Morgann and it's so incredibly bittersweet. I knew within minutes of chatting with Morgann (I was only 8 weeks pregnant at the time!) that she was the right midwife for us! She is caring, strong, so well informed, a perfect blend of hands-off physiological support with modern medicine, and she's wonderfully fun and wholesome. We had the privilege of working with Deidra as well and I adored her sweet and caring nature. I always looked forward to seeing them both and I'll miss seeing them regularly now! We felt so loved, supported, informed, and empowered throughout our experience to make the best choices pre and postnatal for myself, our family, and our sweet baby girl. In the midst of a very long, first labor Morgann gave me some of the best motherhood insight I think I'll ever receive-- she encouraged introspective thinking and gently guided me in knowing and trusting in my own "mother's intuition" vs personal anxiety/fear. This insight helped me make a tough choice to choose an intervention I hadn't wanted initially (breaking my waters), but ultimately was the right choice for me and my daughter, Ruby to finally progress our labor and deliver her despite my own anxiety over how it may intensify labor which already felt overwhelming. Our conversation around this was quiet, loving, gentle, compassionate and had zero pressure. It still brings me to tears to think about and I'll cherish it forever! Morgann is not just a medical support, she has celebrated in our joy, she has been a shoulder to cry on (in labor and in postpartum as my husband struggled with life threatening medical issues), she's given clarity, choice and informed consent, and she's no-nonsense direct when it's needed (like when our baby decided at 39 weeks to be breech for a bit!). We were beyond blessed to be in Morgann's care this last year for our first pregnancy. From the moment we met Morgann we knew she was the perfect fit for us. She is so genuine, warm, kind, down to earth, knowledgeable and still straight forward which with many questions we appreciated. We appreciated how much time she and her team dedicated to us each appointment leaving ample time to get to know us, educate us, and answer the many questions and fears that come up. We had access to her at all times, being able to message her when questions come up before our next appointment or when I was worried about something along the way she was there for me. She always goes above and beyond. We had to leave an appointment a tad early due to unforeseen circumstances and didn't get to do the belly check. I started having contractions that were not progressing and Morgann continually checked in on me even making 2 house visits to check on me and baby. She took time out of her busy day to come see me and make sure baby and I were doing okay. On the day he was born I was having a lot of back labor and Morgann came over again to check on me, and with her help and support labor progressed very quickly. During labor she and her team were so supportive. Making sure baby and I were safe at all times. The entire experience felt very safe, they know what they are doing and do an incredible job supporting. She is so warm and caring which you need during labor. From how much time we've spent together she truly knew me. The type of care she gave because of this is unlike anything I've ever experienced. When baby was born, they continued to go above and beyond helping me shower, drying me off, washing sheets and helping with latch which was not easy due to tongue tie we found out later; but they never gave up. Baby had latch issues and Taylor pumped right then and there to give us milk to get through the night. I also loved how they made sure I knew I wasn't doing anything wrong and it wasn't something wrong with me. The emotional care they provide is just as important as the physical care. It's a vey vulnerable time full of emotions and they supported me through it and made sure I didn't feel alone or like something was wrong with me They left after midnight and due to those latch issues Morgann was back 7 AM the next morning before all her appointments to help with latch, she just goes above and beyond and does what's best for mom and baby no matter how hard it is for her. We were so blessed to have this incredible team be a part of our journey, we cannot thank them enough. I cannot recommend them enough; they will absolutely be a part of our next pregnancy as well. An incredible journey with the best midwife we could have asked for. Finding Morgan Burres care was "happenstance" and we couldn't feel more blessed. Our little girl's arrival wasn't quite planned but she came to us at the right time; everything fell into place just as it should. This sentiment can be said for everything along the way. Between me and my partner... we are very go with the flow, almost fly by the seat of our pants type. You could say its like us just believe "everything will work out." It had been my dream to give birth at home, naturally, and unmedicated. I believe there is a power and strength in a mother's body to bring her baby forth naturally into this Earth safely and peacefully. This was my 3rd pregnancy and birth, but my first time having a successful home birth. I have Morgann and team at Tree of Life Midwifery to thank! As a Black woman, statistically the odds of having a successful home birth were against me. According to the CDC, the maternal mortality rate for non-Hispanic Black women is about 70 deaths per 100,000 live births, 2.6 times the rate for non-Hispanic White (subsequently, White) women (26.6). I already knew how I'd be treated if I were to go the "standard" route of going to a hospital. Pregnancy and childbirth are NATURAL processes of the body and human experience. It is not a medical condition/disease and I did not want to be treated as such. I had already experienced having a traumatic birth, having already had a c-section (which I learned was medically unnecessary AFTERWARDS). On top of that, I had reservations about having a homebirth because of the poor experience that I had with a different midwifery company during the pandemic (2020), where I ended up having to go to the hospital yet again (because that particular midwife booked too many appointments and would not come to my home to check me, despite me telling her I was in labor and my water had broken the day prior). Needless to say, I was nervous about giving birth again, yet alone having a home birth with a midwife. I chose to face my fears and put my trust in Morgann and her team at Tree of Life Midwifery. I am sooooo thankful that I chose to be brave and make this decision. Morgann's care is extremely compassionate and empowering. I feel like she walked with me along this journey of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. She kept her word and provided me with the utmost respect, support, consideration, and most-recent evidence-based care. Her bedside manner is impeccable! Her personality is amazing and made me extremely comfortable to confide in her and trust her to help me bring my baby into this world - safely, unmedicated, naturally...and in the comfort of my home. I'm not even sure where to begin with this review. Morgann is a true blessing, and I am so very grateful that our paths crossed. This was my second pregnancy, and I knew that I wanted a homebirth this time around I did seek out 2 other midwives prior to finding Morgann and it was less than a good experience. Morgann went above and beyond to where I am still blown away that I was able to get care like this I didn't know it was even possible for someone to offer such wonderful true genuine care. I now look back at all the other care that I have received in my life and it's a major disappointment. For healing purposes and awareness I feel like this is necessary... As a first time mom, it is truly disheartening when you reach out to a "midwife" to get the motherly, one on one, caring, nurturing, hands on, taking that EXTRA step experience and you receive everything but that! I wanted nothing more for my birthing experience to be peaceful, intimate, joyful, special and etc. but my birthing experience was everything but that with Morgann. Morgann allowed me to labor for almost 48 hours before transferring care over to the hospital. Once I got transferred over to the hospital Friday around 4pm everything took a turn for the worst! I was informed that my water had already ruptured(which she stated it did NOT) most likely right after I lost my mucus plug early Wednesday morning around 2/3am and that I should have been transferred to the hospital within 24 hours after that due to risk of getting an infection. Due to me laboring for so long AT HOME and the position my son was in I had no energy left to push him pass that threshold and had to have a C-SECTION. During labor we felt like she was irritated/annoyed by us texting her and having to drive over to check to see how far I dilated (as if that's not your job and what we paid you for). She NEVER came to the hospital and came over TWICE after I was discharged. Unfortunately, I had to reach out to her to get my short disability forms signed and for her to fill out my return to work form and although she helped with that she informed me "for further documentations reach out to Bella Women's Care" like we spent our entire pregnancy with you, spent thousands of dollars , you did NOT delivery my baby, you put my life and my baby's life at jeopardy the less you can do is help fill out medical forms and not brush me off to someone else. Thank GOD for my doula (which I later found out she was acting irritated/annoyed towards her too), my mother, and my boyfriend for getting me through this. I know she tried to give us what we wanted and that all births are different and sometimes things are out of our control but this experience overall was unacceptable. My birthing experience was extremely traumatic and it will be something I will constantly struggle with for the rest of my life. read more
