I looked on Yelp for a good 2 weeks - checked names with google searches etc. Originally I wanted a woman Dr (just thinking they'd be sympathetic to the high heel/shoe issue) .... I came up empty handed and had to choose one of the many men podiatrists. Not many podiatrists had reviews on Yelp, just a handful so it was kind of a crap shoot - I chose one that was more local with a few reviews. I looked at the one bad review from 2010 and realized that review was for a doctor in a NYC office. Not this Doctor. I made an appointment with the loveliest of receptionists with the greatest of ease. On the day of my appointment, I got there about 10 minutes early to fill out some paperwork (I could have printed out the forms from home and filled them out before hand) My appointment time was right on the button - no waiting what so ever. The Dr Gewirtz was SINCERELY nice. I was very comfortable with him. He assessed my feet for a good 40 minutes with the upmost of scrutiny - he took some x-rays - an ultrasound and told me what condition I actually had vs what my old dr claimed I had. In total I was there for a tad over 1 hour. I never felt rushed and he was more than willing to answer any questions that I had. Oh, and he was very sympathetic to my shoe/heel issues. You either have to see the doctor even when you no longer need medical help or pay a cancelation fee even if you try to cancel the appointment early way beyond their so-called 'policy'. Here is my predicament. I hurt my foot during the weekend. At the time I thought I would need medical help, so around 5PM May 12, Monday, I called this office and made an appointment. They gave a 12PM appointment the next day, Tuesday, May 13. Note that this is within their 24 hour window of cancelation. There was no communications from their office regarding a cancelation fee. If I knew, I would not proceed with one. I don't want to be financially trapped like that. The next morning, Tuesday May 13, I knew I couldn't come, so I called and asked to cancel the appointment. To my surprise, they told me I cannot cancel it because it was within their 24 hour window. I was not told about this fee when the appointment was given. They told me I either had to reschedule or pay that fee. Facing with no other options, I thought I might need to be seen, I rescheduled to Friday May 16, 9:15 appointment. Over the next day, my foot improved, there was no more pain, and no swelling. So I called this office on Wednesday to cancel the appointment. Note that this is way before their 24 hour cancelation window. They said I cannot cancel it, if I do, I will be imposed a fee of $50. THIS IS ANOTHER WAY OF TELLING ME THAT I HAVE TO SEE THEIR DOCTOR WHEN I NO LONGER NEED MEDICAL CARE. THIS IS VERY UNFAIR PRACTICE AND AMOUNTS TO SCAM. Fifty dollar is not a big amount but principal is principal. They cannot just charge people if they like. People pay when service is rendered. I received no service. As a matter of fact, with the first appointment, I was given no chance to cancel my appointment because they did not inform me of this potential fee and the appointment was give within their 24 hour. The second appointment was effectively forced on me. I still tried to obey their so-called 'policy' by contacting them as soon as I can to cancel. Now they don't honor their own policy and told me they will send me a bill for that fee. I will refer this matter to the New Jersey Ministry of Consumer Affair for investigation of my complaint.
