Gill Tax Group (GTG) took me in last minute, thoroughly reviewed my returns after I had a hiccup with TurboTax and discovered that the TurboTax software did not flag the necessity to file in another state.* Had GTG not checked this and had I relied on TurboTax, I would have been subject to a review and possible full audit by not only the California Franchise Tax Board, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, but also the Internal Revenue Service. GTG cares and is very thorough. If they make a commitment to help, they have proven that be true. Trying to get through to TurboTax customer service was a nightmare and nobody understands what I'm asking or trying to do, notwithstanding the technical gliches they have. GTG understood came through and took over immediately and filed expeditiously--and I am very thankful. I cannot recommend this wonderful firm enough to others. * Had I opted for the "audit free protection" offered by TurboTax, it would likely have been denied because it only protects you in the State you file. TurboTax did not recognize that I needed to file a return in another state and therefore I would have l been denied the protection had I went that route if I were to be reviewed and audited. WTG GTG! Once paid, they offered little further assistance. Significant miscommunication between staff members on essential elements of our filing. Longer version: We hired a tax preparation service to help navigate changes to our filing status after getting married. Our tax consultant, Garrett Jones, began working on our application with the wrong filing status. After correcting this error, there was poor communication regarding important changes that needed to be followed up on, which resulted in IRS notices arriving in June. When I raised my concerns with Garrett, his guidance was vague and he offered no clear timeline for resolution. Weeks later, with no progress made, I was left with the impression that once he had been paid, his investment in us as clients had ended. I spent approximately 10 hours on the phone with the IRS trying to sort out the status of our account. Throughout this process, Garrett maintained that I owed approximately $2,000 to the IRS -- when in fact I had a pending refund of approximately $2,000. In the end, we were left with a significant miscalculation, poor customer service, and no choice but to resolve everything ourselves. I'm still unclear what the fee we paid to Crossroads Financial Planning actually covered. Highly recommend taking your taxes elsewhere.

My first clue was when she quoted me an hourly rate of $75/hour, but then wanted to charge me $350/month without ever having SEEN my books or my needs. She said she's been doing this a "long time" and could "tell" it would be 5-7 hours per month of work. That being said, what if it was 5? Or less than 5? Would I get a refund? No response. But I'm in need, so I still said ok. After dozens of emails back and forth, I provided her with passwords for my business accounts, credit cards, and Quick books portable file. I set her up with everything she needed to start my work. The second clue she gave me was asking me (again) which accounts were which (letting me know she couldn't handle complex law firm accounts). She also asked me repeatedly for things I had previously sent her in the same email string. When I responded to her that everything had been provided she emailed me back immediately and stated, "We have decided we are too busy to handle your books." Period. Mind you, by this time, I have told my current bookkeeper that I'm going with someone new. Oy-Vey! After receiving ALL my client's private information in my QB file, my usernames, passwords, statements, etc. and me firing my other bookkeeper, I'll have to change everything now and there's nothing I can do to retrieve my QB portable file. To say I was disappointed is a complete understatement. She's definitely not as organized as she claims to be. I definitely don't see how she has this many 5 star ratings. ??? UPDATE: just read her reply comment on my post. Takes no responsibility for her role in what happened. Just puts it back on me. Whatever Mary. You can't even be honest that you said you were "too busy". *eye roll*. Clearly I dodged a bullet reading your other 1 star reviews.
