    Glow fan at Quarters
    Rachel F.

Quarters is to "palace" as Uptowner is to "charm school." Make no mistake, dear reader. (For those unfamiliar with the context this analogy bears, peruse a few of these other reviews.) Quarters smells like armpits and stale beer. There's nowhere to sit. Bands that play here are local or the touring sort that don't mind crashing on friends of friends' floors. It's kind of - er, really pretty - dirty. & I like it. Real recognize real, dudes + lady dudes. Quarters specializes in shows, though I believe they are open regular-ish hours as well. Shows at this self-proclaimed rock & roll palace are small, and will likely draw a similar yet different VERY niche clientele each and every go. The beer is cheap. Parking on the street isn't too terrible. Basically, if you're into local/touring music of specific set of bents, Quarters is a solid spot to catch a show. I like it. I like the vibe, I like the size, I like the grit. The lighting's kind of cool. One of the ceiling fans has glow lights affixed to it, so that's something. [If you've read this much, it's because you're probably headed to Quarters for a particular reason (most likely a show) and you're doing your homework. It's either that, or you're just in a Yelp Milwakee internet-ing spiral. You're just lollygagging around here, reading reviews, bookmarking spots, trying to get a feel for the good ol' Mil. Good on you, friend in the latter camp. Milwaukee's pretty freaking great.] Remember, you're headed to Riverwest, dear reader... and this is as close to as "real" Riverwest as it can get, I think.

When the bands are set up on the floor and it gets crowded there is very little room to move around.

Inconspicuous hole in the wall dive bar that hosts some great shows- good sound on the floor. Bring your own monitor speaker and cable.

The bar itself is pretty small, Its got a tall stage and a nook if you are a drummer. Not a bad spot. Very cool and friendly bartender.

From the outside it is so bland and you are truly unsure if you are walking into an abandoned building or a crappy towny bar. Once you enter, it may take your eyes a moment to adjust if you are coming in from a bright sunny day. Foundation Bar has super low lighting, very moody. There is ample seating and a few different seating options; bar stools, booths, high top tables. Seat yourself. To order drinks you walk up to the bar. There is not table service. The decorations here are great! There are some really incredible pieces and collections! Some I would love to have if I could find them. Since we'd just had a disappointing dinner, we opted for ice cream drinks as a treat. They were both very good and picture perfect. The bartender was polite and service was good. Hubsy gushed about this bar enough that I resisted until Saturday night when I felt restless. Inside, Two is a low-lit neighborhood bar. There's a fair number of large tables for groups and the booths noted by other reviewers behind bead curtains. Two glows like the inside of a supernatural heart. Warm, red, and playing some solid music -- some I recognized (Death Cab for Cutie) and others I didn't (the bluesy tune). There's a jukebox. The location: Located next to its flashier cousin, Art Bar, it's easy to miss Two. About 3-4 blocks west of Humboldt on Burleigh, use Art Bar as your landmark. There's plenty of unmetered street parking on Burleigh or the residential streets. The service: When we walked in, we were greeted immediately by the bartender. She also asked if we had ever been there before. Based on the people who came in after us, my guess is that she knows the regulars. Very cool. The drinks: My first sip of Dark and Stormy was all rum. I didn't mind, so when I stirred, it was perfectly balanced. Good ginger beer, good rum. The Moscow Mule Hubsy got was sweeter than my drink which was surprising but delightful. Each of our drinks were $8.50. I didn't pay attention to the beer specials, but maybe next time. Next time: I'll probably stay longer to do some people-watching and writing. Maybe I'll check out the beer.

Luckily when we got there the back room was open and they pushed some tables together for us. I'd like to make this a 2.5-star review. The food was quite good. We enjoyed our drinks. The atmosphere was as cozy as ever. Our service was deeply disappointing. Our server, A.S., might have been tired or something. I can't speak for her state of mind, but she was really detached and borderline dismissive. Yes, we got all of our food. We would certainly have ordered more drinks, increasing our tab and gratuity, but she never came back and asked if anyone wanted one. One of our guests ordered avocado toast. Apparently they were out. She came back and said "Whoever ordered the avocado toast, we're out." She didn't know who ordered which dish to start, and then she didn't bring a menu back so the guest could make an informed second choice. They had to just order whatever they remembered. Coffee drinkers were offered one refill - just one. Seriously, I don't know what was going on, but we left pretty quickly since our celebratory mood was being squelched. I hope she recovered from whatever was wrong with her.

Not like the good old days when the yellow school bus would pick up from several North Ave bars. Alas... As of 2026, you can ride the shuttle if you either a.) buy two drinks or b.) buy a $10 voucher which can be used for food or drink then or another time. Their shuttle goes to Brewer games as well! We got a drink and the bus showed up not too long after, we were the first on the small bus but it quickly filled. I would say don't be like us, give yourself more time to get there in case the shuttle waits for people or traffic is bad by the destination. My only complaint is on the way back from the fest, the driver took the wrong ramp and we were headed to Bayview until the first exit was available. He didn't communicate that to us which was weird. "Oops, sorry everyone" would have been a normal thing to say. At that point we were Vier South instead of Vier North. Recently we came back to use our vouchers for dinner, the plan was fish fries because we're always on the hunt for a good one. The fish pieces were smaller and you get 4 (my photos make it look larger). We joked it's more like cod nuggets, I'd prefer 2 larger pieces with more fish inside. Some of what you saw was batter and not fish so a little deceiving. The fries and coleslaw were good but we didn't like the sweeter tarter sauce. Overall we were very full but for me, I wouldn't get the fish fry again not due to taste but fish fries are expensive everywhere and I prefer more fish and thinner batter. Next time, I'd try a burger. The cloud bread was on my list to try for a long time but it was just okay in my opinion. Their pizza looks good too so I want to try some other items on the menu. The service was fine, I think we came around a shift change so several people helped us. The interior was well done, it looks so much better now and that patio is a great addition. The bar near the bathrooms has a little sitting area that looked chill. They have poker nights and other fun things so check it out!
