We ate dinner here last night and it was just OK. I wouldn't say anything was bad but it didn't knock our socks off. We sat downstairs and while it was a bit noisy that was to be expected. The menu was just OK and the selection was moderate at best.......All this having been said the bar was truly happening and looked like to place to be for the singles action......looked like one of the most happening places in the whole Quay area. read more

Wow. Am amazing live music which got everyone from 18-80 up dancing away. Great when the musicians allowed Jacob to participate during wagon wheel and really got the crowd going. Great to hear some of the oldies as well, surprised no one tried the dirty dancing lift.. . All in all a great spot. read more

Review is strictly for the bar, we did not eat here. Both times we went the bar served us promptly, which is a plus considering how busy they were each time. We were under the impression most of the patrons were tourists like us, which is not a big deal. Although I think their clientele determines the types of music. The band that played was really good, the guitarist was very impressive. Pretty much played only American music, with a few others mixed in. Whenever friends or family from the USA come to Galway for a visit, this is where I take them first. Every single time we come for the food and pints, stay for the atmosphere, and stay even longer for the fantastic live music. The oysters are fabulous and the menu is standard and reliable, but the interesting bends and twists of the pub make it better than your average Irish food joint. read more

This bar is nicely decorated. The food was nice. We've ordered a traditional Irish stew. Please note that this stew is quite small and attached with meshed potato. The seafood platter was good, but the smoked fish had tiny bones in it, please take care when eating. read more

Atmosphere:4 stars. Food:2 stars. The food was just okay. I got the seafood chowder, and shared fish and chips. The brown bread was standard. Delicious, as Irish brown bread goes. The seafood chowder was thin and contained tiny bits of white fish, and maybe a few tiny nubs of mussels (?). The fish was nothing special and was breaded, and essentially flavorless. This was probably the worst meal on our trip. The service was pleasant, and the atmosphere was typical Irish pub, so enjoyable. Honestly, I would probably go back for a pint, and maybe some bread. read more

After a long day's drive we went into The Quay to grab some food and it was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. The food tasted like something you would buy in the Walmart freezer aisle, but only after it's been refrozen and reheated. I only give them one star because I cannot put anything lower. We left after only a few bites and went elsewhere. We still had to pay for the first course, overpriced spring rolls with some abomination of a salad. Best Chowder in Galway! If you visit Galway and fail to get some of the Quay's famous Chowder, well, you have pretty much wasted your trip ;) It really is delicious!!! I drop in for some at least once a week. The menu has many other great items at fair prices and the atmosphere is always welcoming, with many nooks for quiet meals as well as open bar areas for more social affairs. Excellent service. I had the roasted stuffed turkey breast with mash potatoes. It came out quick and tasted delicious.

Only bad meal we ate in Ireland. The atmosphere is cool and it's probably good for drinks and dancing...but definitely not food. I ordered the fish and chips- it looked and tasted like frozen fish sticks you'd buy in the freezer section. My friends ordered stews which were also very bad. Nothing appeared to be fresh or homemade. I don't recommend this place for a meal. read more

Worst place I ate dinner in Ireland. My lamb tasted awful, friend 1 had the lousiest curry ever, number 2 had a fish probably caught in the gulf of Mexico during the BP disaster, number 3 had a steak that would only be considered medium rare when comparing to Justin Bieber fans. However, number 4 has an eternal lust for food that could only be compared to the great Homer Simpson and finished almost all our dishes himself. Shakespeare probably would've put this in more elegant words, but since the starter dishes weren't half bad I won't try to be a lazy copier of his words. read more

I can't say I've sampled the fare at the Quays but I love the place for its nightlife. It's probably one of the most fun places I've been for live music and general bar atmosphere. I was there in 2009 and enjoyed an evening on the ground floor where the split levels provided a variety of vantage points for viewing & listening to the band. I love that this 400+ year old establishment provided such a lively bar scene. At first I was a little disappointed when I found out the band I was seeing during my 2013 visit (The Fenians!) wouldn't be playing on the main level again...until I saw them in the upstairs music hall! The multi-level stage looked amazing but the giant church organ pipes, dramatically lit in pink/purple/blue, completely set the scene for an unforgettable night! If you're looking for a fun night out in Galway, The Quays is a must. read more

First night in Galway and we planned to have a meal here. My wife had read a great review of the Quays on some random blog so we decided to try it. We were woefully disappointed! The food was so bland that you could hardly tell the difference between the sirloin, the turkey or the fish (all meals that my family ordered). Seasoning would go a long way in this place. Even the fries... er, chips were flavorless. I don't know if we caught the Quays on a bad night or not but based on our experience, I would not recommend it. It does have a cool look inside though, multiple level bar descending into a basement area. Have a drink there if you like but don't order the food. read more

We have traveled from Dublin, to Killarney, to Galway and have eaten in 8 different restaurants. This has been by far the worst food we have had in Ireland. Completely overpriced, and poor menu selection. I have had frozen fish sticks that were better than the "fresh" haddock. We all only took about 3 bites if our dinner, which is so unfortunate because we have absolutely loved the food and service of Ireland so far. The oysters are fresh and very good!! Clean, not grisly. Comes with a mild chunky horseradish sauce, lemon, Tabasco sauce, and soda bread. Paired really well with a pint of Guinness!! Even came back a second time before we left Galway for another round of oysters and Guinness. read more

Its true, this place gets you our of sorts as soon as you go in, in a good way! It seems just link a regular bar as you enter it, then all the levels gets you. Its a strange experience, looking up then down into the bar. Its so nice to go into a place an be surprised by the layout. Went on vacation to Ireland and stopped at the Quay and had the pleasure of being served drinks by a gentlemen named David. He was a real bartender and incredibly professional and kind. Served us and made us feel really welcomed and recommended the band playing later. David knows the business and even recommended a tremendous steak house up the road. The Quays has been a city institution since the 1600's. The stone interior was once the inside of a medieval French church. There are lots of details like stained glass and carved wood. We stopped in for a bowl of chowder and their fish and chips. Everything was very good. Or, as I've learned to say,"Good craic". read more

After I figured out how to say the name (yes, I'm American) and a few dozen visits I can surely say this is my favorite bar. The interior is absolutely beautiful and seems like a secret to all those who make it past the first bar. The service is great, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is breathtaking. I brought my mom here during a trip to Galway and we were given complimentary appetizers while we talked and drinked in the back. It was wonderful and gave us a wonderful memory. This is a great bar no matter what night you go. Always live music. Plenty of bars and seating. Great fun and an excellent upstairs venue that opens on weekends. It's a must go if you're in Galway. Grab a few drinks elsewhere before as it is pricier but again, it's worth it! read more

I've never eaten here, but it's usually crowded on most nights. They have a live band which play some decent American rock songs (cover). There's a different band every night and some are better than others, but I've always had a good time here, and there's plenty of room for us to dance (even though people don't) and just hang out. read more

Everyone loves this bar but I found it overly touristy. There wasn't a single local person in there other than a few bartenders! The trad music was good but definitely not great. The musicians were playing without passion and it felt a bit 'blah'. I finished my beer quickly and went elsewhere, though I'm sure many enjoyed spending their whole night there. read more
