Queen Bee's is such an amazing space. I first came here to bring my kiddos for dance lessons. These people are so amazing that they would let our students use the space twice a week for dance lessons. The kids were always thrilled to dance in an actual dance studio, see themselves in the mirrors, and be surrounded by art and flava! I came back to their Sunday salsa night and the front room was fast-paced salsa where you saw a lot of white women being all original and sexy and a little dangerous but safe at the same time dancing salsa. It was a bit intimidating cause they're all "FIVE-SIX-SEVEN-EIGHT! BAM! BAM! SPIN! TWRL! DIP! Shake Shake Shake Sway Look like an angry chola!" and I felt like my child-bearing Latina hips and big booty kept getting in the way of some serious skills. "Sorry, excuse me, OPPA! Sorry! Don't mean to bump into you but you should watch where you're spinning...okay, I'll shut the fuck up and go check out the bachata room." In the back room, there's slower-paced sexy bachata for all you cortavenas Latin lovers. It was great dancing with my heterosexual life partner because I would not dance with any of the dudes there cause they are old enough to be my dad and I don't have daddy issues so no thanks! Please support this amazing space, whether it's from attending an event or taking a class, I am very glad for Queen Bee's. read more

I rented this venue for my daughter's graduation party on Saturday, June 16, 2018. It was somewhat of a delight and my guests did enjoy themselves for the most part. However, there were a multitude of concerns that I had expressed to the owner, Alma: My event was scheduled to be from 5:00pm - 11:30pm. Once she left the studio for whatever reason she needed to, her employees disappeared shortly thereafter, and did not finish setting up the tables and chairs. My family and I had to complete the task ourselves. The food did not arrive until 6:27pm and was not available to be served until 6:49pm! I asked multiple employees on 4 different occasions about the time the food would be ready to serve, was told "they went to pick it up now," "I'm not sure." I then followed up stating my event was supposed to start at 5:00pm and was responded with "I did not get those details." At one point I was told, "I'm just here to monitor the buffet line." Okay so WHERE IS THE FOOD?! With the food delivery & set up being delayed 2 hours, it screwed up the agenda and timeline of my event tremendously! Not to mention, having my guests wait 2 hours after my event was supposed to have started to eat is unacceptable! On another note, it did not seem as if there was enough food catered for 200 people. There were approximately a maximum of 120 guests that showed up to my event, but the food did not last past the first wave of guests. When I was coming up to the buffet station at around 7:30pm, the buffet line was already gone and cleaned up. Not good! Also, one of my guests provided 3 bowls of guacamole. Only 2 bowls made it to the table! Where did the 3rd bowl go? She told us she handed it to one of her employees, but I promise you that bowl never made it to the buffet table! Employees did not willingly supply a trash bin. I had to request for one and was given attitude about it and was told "they are in the back." About 30 minutes later, I asked another employee for a trash bin and received attitude as well, as if him having to go look for one to provide was an inconvenience. About an hour later, the security guard (really nice guy) finally provided a small one on his own accord. The photo booth was not operational until 7pm. I would've assumed that it should've been up and running since the start of the event. That may have allowed people to kill time while waiting for the food to arrive rather than just sitting at the tables being bored and hungry. (Some of my guests went next door to buy deli sandwiches to hold themselves over. That is extremely embarrassing for me!) I was told by Alma that, included in the event package I paid for, there would be a parking lot attendant. This was non-existent. No one ever showed up to attend to the parking lot. My cousin (who traveled from Texas to attend my event) was the person who stayed outside to tend to it by way of moving cones to direct guests into the parking lot. Approximately 10:15pm, the employees started cleaning up, throwing away my guests' plates of food and drinks in the trash, and moving personal belongings to breakdown the tables and chairs. (We were still in party mode during this time as my event was scheduled to end at 11:30pm.) My guests took this as a signal that my event has ended and proceeded to leave. Also, unacceptable! Additionally, the employees were very unprofessional!!! They did not seem happy to have been there. A couple of employees complained about my event being the 3rd graduation party they "had to deal with in the past 3 days." At another point, a few of my family members as well as myself were getting attitude from the employees and acted as if they had something better to do. Also, employees were found to be on the roof smoking weed. (Although it may be legal in California now, it is highly unprofessional to be doing so during a paid event where professionalism should come as a standard practice.) Employees were drinking the alcohol we provided for our guests (and were drunk) throughout my event. It was unrecognizable to anyone that they were actual employees as they appeared and acted as if they were a part of the invited crowd. Employees were blatantly eating the food I paid for that were to be for the guests in front of the buffet station! No shame! The bartender did not show up until 6:30pm and was upset about how the bar was set up and how everything wasn't in its proper place. She expressed her issues loudly in front of my guests. She was also upset that people were trying to make their own drinks while she was trying to set up the bar. Not once did we feel as if our patronage was valued. Customer service was severely lacking throughout my event. A lot of my guests had complaints about the service and are willing to make testimonies to that effect! Alma's response to my formal letter of complaint was atrocious, she just did not care. Out of all the events I have hosted in other venues, this is by far the worst experience I have had. read more

One of my close friends and I experienced our first session of Lyrical Exchange last night. We showed up right at 8:00 however they were still setting up and didn't get started until 8:30...I would suggest showing up anytime between 8-8:30 to get a comfortable seat, the entire show lasts about 3 hours. Every Tuesday they offer the opportunity for anyone to showcase their talents ranging from spoken word-Poetry (my fav.) singing, comedy, or any other type of talent you posses. You can buy water or soda, however there is no alcohol or food served. You also need to come prepared to participate with a very vocal (Exchange) after the Emcee randomly yells out (Lyrical). At the beginning of the night they pass around a notebook for everyone to contribute to a line of anything that you want to write down weather it's a poetry line or anything that you randomly want to say that comes to mind...at the end of the night the Emcee reads it out loud. This particular night everyone was in sync with what the last person wrote because it seemed flow. I'm a big fan...a must try at least once...I'm still mesmerized by the spoken word that night, I very much feel inspired to start writing poetry again! **Street parking or $5 parking at the Mexican restaurant next door. read more

Recently came here for The Republic of Letters CD Release Party & this place was offfffff the-hook!!! Definitely worth the $5 cover. Thankfully I was on the 1/2 price guest list, but I could understand why they'd have you pay $10. Not only was it a music show, they also had amazing artwork on the walls, fresh food, drinks, a massage room & boutique jewelry for sale. I was very impressed with how they used their space. I'll be coming here again. The only minor complaint I have, is the HUGE line for the restrooms. read more

This review is based on salsa dancing Sunday nights. Being in the military, I've had the opportunity to salsa dance all over the US of A and I can tell you that this place is totally unique in a good way. It's a multi-purpose little arena situated in a very unique neighborhood. Cover is $10. $8 for students and military. There's a main room for salsa dancing and a slightly smaller room for bachata dancing. Each room is filled with fun people of all skill levels. Although it can be a little intimidating some times watching some of the dancers destroy the dance floor, everyone for the most part is very welcoming. Bachata lesson from 730-830, Salsa lesson from 830-930, social dancing till 1am at the latest. For the more experienced dancers, the dance floor is perfect for spinning and won't shred your dance shoes. Also, when you enter, look to your right and you'll see a gigantic industrial fan. Usually in front of this is where a lot of the more experienced dancers congregate to show off their almighty salsa skills so if you're looking for a great salsa lead or an amazing follow, that would be a good place to start. This review is strictly for the bachata room on Sunday nights. Otherwise everything else is great, location, staff, parking, entry price, etc etc. The Bachata Djs here are only good at emptying a dance floor. They are fixated on playing only dominican songs and Aventura style music, very stale and outdated. Songs are not mixed, its more like you're listening to pandora. Dancing here is like dancing in a 2013 time bubble and its the same playlist every week. Have you been to a bachata festival or salsa congress? Or even LA? Night and day DJs, enough said. read more

Really fun place, it's an older building I would give it 5 stars but the lady who runs it is kind of a downer ....she's not very friendly she's actually kind of rude ...pretty cold, butt they do have good dance classes here and some nice concerts the parking is a little difficult but I would say go ahead and try out the place!! read more

I've absolutely loved all the shows, art events, and dance parties I've attended here (and that's 100s, at this point!). Although I have great memories at QB's, unfortunately I can't say I'm too sold on the venue... Queen Bee's is actually pretty dark and a bit run down, when you think about it- low ceilings, a low stage, a strange lay-out, and abysmal A/C (just try salsa dancing here on a Sunday night- if you're not a puddle by the end of it then you must be in a different venue!). And I know that they rent out the venue for weddings and other events, but it's hard to believe that you could lighten the place up enough for one of those- make sure to use a lot of white linens and extra lighting! Also, if you attend anything focusing on the stage, you should make sure to grab a seat up front- with the low stage and large chairs up front, visibility is pretty bad... Don't even get me started on the parking... North Park will never win any awards in that category, and the streets surrounding Ohio are no exception. I'm glad the venue exists, for everything it hosts (saving my rating, here)- but it is desperately in need of some updates. Maybe, with what they charge for events, those renovations will come sooner rather than later, but until then I won't hold my breath. read more

I love "Train of Thought" at Queen Bees on Tueday nights... not what you would normally think for an open mic. Amazingly talanted spoken word poets, hip-hop, musicians, and even some comedians. They also have a "headline" every week, and they are always really awesome. A great place to see local talent and artwork. I'm still to scared to go up there and read because everyone is so good... but they are a super supportive, fun group. They even have a DJ on the stage! Well worth the $5, I try to go every week. read more

I give this place three stars, only because it was missing one thing--a bar! However, it is an all ages venue and I guess it's not a good thing to have drunk people roaming around the same room as your kids. It is very roomy with lots of places to stand and sit. One of my friends had an extra ticket to a show at Queen Bees for last night. There's a patio outside for smokers which was good, because I couldn't stand the concert or the crowd, so I ended spending most of the time outside. There's no ventilation system, and it's sorely needed. When I see a concert, I prefer to sit down, not stand in a hot crowded stuffy room of sweaty, smelly people smoking marijuana. I would return to Queen Bees if I had a reason to, but not for a concert. The parking sucks, and it's $5.00 to park in the lot on the next block. read more

Cool little neighborhood venue. It's far from upscale more or a "homey" feel. The walls are covered in art, from pretty painings and fine photography to spray painted murals. It would be a great place to take an active class, host a party if they rent it out or to preform. They had a stage and a couple different rooms. If I had not made the Yelp event in November (which I almost did not) I would have never discovered Queen Bee's and that would have been a shame. I really enjoyed the ecclectic venue with its open and colorful spaces. The various collections of cosigned art work is great and from a glance much was reasonably priced. I am still awaitng my offer on a dog portrait painting. The owner is a spicy Latina with a real passion for what she does and the art community she supports. She was so delightful to take the time to tell us of all the regularly scheduled events offered at Queen Bee's. While I have not done so yet, I will make it out to Salsa Sundays. My wife and I were so excited to try a little Latin dancing here tonight for the first time. We started following the instructor but then it came time to rotate partners. The woman next to us did not want to dance with my wife. So that was awkward. We ended up leaving. To their credit they did refund us the entry fee of $10/person. Just not a good experience for this gay couple. It felt like it's an experience only for straight couples, which is fine. Just wish we had known ahead of time. It definitely put a damper on the evening to feel like we don't fit in here. read more

I was here for a Burlesque show on Valentine's Day. The show was absolutely wonderful. The girls were fun to watch, and there was a lot of good energy. There was swing dancing before and after the show, as well. The atmosphere there was cozy, with plushy chairs in the front (the VIP section) and fold out wooden ones near the back. That's where my companion and I sat, and while I had a relatively good view of the show, the seats started getting rather uncomfortable after a short while. There are only three bathrooms toward the back, but it seemed alright, as Queen Bee's didn't seem too overly crowded that night. All in all, it seems to be a wonderful venue for smaller shows and dancing. Artsy and intriguing, it's certainly a decent place to go spend an evening. read more

I recently hosted an event at Queen Bee's and have to say that I was very disappointed with their customer service, which is a huge bummer because they are in my neighborhood and I want to support local businesses. Here are a few examples of things that happened: - On average it would take 2 to 3 emails from me to get any type of response and often an entire week before they responded. - I asked for lanterns to be strung a certain way and was told that it could be done but when they weren't, he complained that he had already been working on them for over an hour, instead of understanding that that is not what I had requested. They did eventually string them as requested, although they did not use all of the ones I purchased. - The table cloths were supposed to be white with accents of fuchsia and orange and purple and green. Instead they were fuchsia and orange tablecloths and purple and green tablecloths. - We agreed to 4 types of tacos but they did not serve the carnitas tacos we agreed on. - When my mom asked one of the servers (I believe her name was Gina) for a light for the food table, she rolled her eyes at her and walked away. - When my event coordinator asked for help carrying the keg to her car, she was told that they were too tired to help her and to come back the next day. When she went back the next day, they once again did not help her. - I had four meetings scheduled with them before the event. On one occasion, the coordinator was not there at all, no phone call, nothing. On another occasion she was leaving as I came in but stayed and told me she would have to get lunch later. - A credit card was found at one point during the party and when asked to make an announcement the DJ said there was no point and didn't do it. - I was told a checklist would be emailed to me and never was, no matter how many times I requested it (which was about 10). - We were told that we could use all three rooms, but on the day of the event they said we could only use 2. - I was told I could pick up the lanterns on Monday anytime after noon, but when we went by at about 3 PM, no one was there. No apology when I sent an email, "just we will be there at four." - There is no sound system in "the middle room," only in the main room. - When I repeatedly requested a W9 form for my taxes, they didn't answer my 1st 2 emails, then they told me to pick it up the next day, but no one was there, tried again the following day and once again, no one was there (they told me to call a number first to check, but no one answered and the message box was full) and then the 3rd time when I went they told me that they were not going to give me a W9. And many other issues, mostly having to do with service and the lack there of. My impression is that they honestly just don't care about the customer at all. They did not even once thank me for my business. At the end of the day the guests had a nice time, the music was good, the bartender, Jorge was very nice, they got us plates at the last minute when both caterers showed up without any and the food was good. But unfortunately I would not host another event there nor could I recommend it to anyone. The attitude was very much " we know what we are doing, we do this all the time, so don't ask us for anything" instead of " what can we do to make your event the best event possible." Amazing venue!! A wide range of events every night of the week: I checked out "train of thought" on Tuesday...LA and SD Slam Teams spat some mad poetry!! Salsa dancing on Sundays is tons of fun and the 7 o'clock class really helped me to feel comfortable once the music starts. I've known Alma, the owner, for the last two years and am continually amazed by her ability to coordinate the neighborhood's talents to provide daily events while supporting SD's homeless youth. As one of the city's only venues for people under 21, it caters to the entire community. I had a great time seeing BellyDance Superstars here the other night! It's a decent place to see a show....it was packed though! Depending on the show, they offer beer and wine. I haven't taken any dance classes here but seems like it would be a good place. I just hate trying to park! There is very limited parking in the neighborhood. Its a decent venue that brings in GREAT events. The heart of Northpark's events scene. Came here last Wednesday for "Train of Thought" open mic night and it was OFF THE HOOK! The DJ was spinning out of control, the talent rocked the mic and everyone was super chill and fun! they had these really comfortable roller seats on the floor which gave it that theater feel. Also, Been here on Sunday Salsa night which starts at 8:30 with a 1 hour lesson and good DJ until 12:30. Nice crowd. They also have "Sight and Sound" here, which is an event where they have a music, and art from the locals. Never been, but heard its a good one. You want to learn to dance? they have lessons here too. So this place is one of the places you should keep checking on what events they have. OH, they have a mini cafe in the back for water, and other snacks. read more

I have been to Queen Bee's a few times for 2 different things: a Zumba class & shows for local bands. Zumba Class: I took the Tuesday class with Rosie and loved it! The class was $7.00 for an hour and this place was PACKED! Rosie was loud and energetic - I loved it! The room was extremely crowded and my uncoordinated self ran into a few strangers but everyone was extremely nice. People of all ages & skill levels were welcomed. Show For the local show with bands, this place was okay. Parking is difficult on weekend nights so I suggest you get there early. It cost $10 for entry which I think is a little much for just a local show, no? There were some troubles with the sound and the technician seems to walk away too much from his control stand for a show. The musicians shouldn't have to search for the person! Overall, the atmosphere is very welcoming and creative. I love the artwork around the venue and the lounge area. I would definitely go to another fitness class here and maybe try a poetry slam but probably not another concert. read more

Went to see a concert there. Hard to see if you are not in the first few rows or the last row (which is raised seating). The bouncer at the door was rude. Queen Bees is a great spot for Zumba. The class is only $7.00. Which is a lot cheaper than most places. Rosie is amazing. She is a really good dancer and really motivates us to shake it. She makes everybody feel really comfortable and not nervous about all the fun dance moves she has us doing. it does not feel like a fitness class. i feel like I am at a night club dancing the night away. I always leave her class super energized. Queen Bees also has a lot of other dance classes that I wouldlove to try. The art on the wall is really nice. You just have to arrive early because parking is hard ti find. read more

Came here for a Yelp party and I really appreciated all the different types of art on display. There are several rooms that you can walk through as well as an outdoor patio in the back. Went to Queen Bee's for a show that a few friends were playing in. I enjoyed the wheeling chairs and the ability to move furniture to accommodate any size party. Street parking was a little difficult on a Saturday night, but we only had to walk 2 blocks. There was some more room for tables and chairs. Went to see Whitney Shay & The JazzKatz Orchestra: Holiday Album Release Party! First impression not so good. Myself and my love and few other people were in line waiting to get in. So they finally open the door and the guy says people with tickets come in first and the people with cash after. So we waited to get in and they let all these people in before us mine you. Seats are limited inside so I was pissed. What does it matter cash or ticketed. Just in line and behind who was already there. So we finally got in I got a good seat so that worked out. They are very unorgained in this place. They had to put seats out while we were seating and we had to push our seats up so they can put other seats behind us. They should of had all the seats out already before the event even started. I could run these kind of events with my eyes close. Overall ok night. Whitney Shay and the JazzKatz Orchestra sounded great they do have a good sound system in this place I can say that about the place. read more

I HIGHLY recommend this venue for anyone looking to have an event outside of their home. It's in a great location, the venue itself is really nice inside with lots of art work on the walls and the people that run and maintain the building are very pleasant and easy to work with...and I don't want to forget to mention that it's affordable! I recently threw my mom a surprise 75th birthday party and I used the main room at Queen Bee's and invited 70 guests. It was great!!!! Queen Bee's provided tables, chairs AND linens. Jeff, one of the managers, was extremely helpful in coordinating the event with me. He set up all the tables and chairs. For a minimal extra cost, I was able to have table cloths and runners for all the tables. I brought in a DJ and the facility has speakers and everything needed to get your music hooked up. It was fantastic. I catered the food and they even had long tables so that there was space set up just for the food. We had such a good time and the space was great, very spacious. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends and if I ever have another event, I would book Queen Bee's again. I'll be fair and say the space itself is lovely. My single star rating is based solely on the DISGUSTING experience I had this past Monday with the Queen Been team, primarily with the owner, Alma. I had the displeasure of visiting Queen Bee for the 1st time on Monday because my brother's small but growing organization decided to hold a much anticipated community event in the space. My brother, being a lead organizer for his event, signed a contract and put a down payment to secure this space about a month prior to his event. He made Alma (owner) aware of tickets that would be sold for this event and a small group of vendors that would be present during this event. Alma's contract contained various clauses about clean up, guest behavior, etc. but no mention of percentages owed to her from ticket sales. In addition to the space rental, he was promised 2 security guards-- one of whom showed up over an hour late and did nothing the entire event and the second who never showed. Again, the contract was pretty basic. Come the day of the event, Alma must have been surprised at the success of everything because she quickly took it upon herself to demand 50% of the ticket sales (including online sales that had been sold prior) and even pushed one of our team members to sell her soft drinks and water! My brother, being under incredible stress to pull this awesome event off and provide a great opportunity for young people to celebrate their talents, came to me in a moment of frustration and asked what he should do. I've helped execute numerous large-scale events all over the country and could not believe the audacity of this woman! I advised him to keep calm and that we would handle it after the event. During closing time, she pulled my brother into her office and once again demanded "her money." At this point, I was completely outraged at the gaul of this woman and decided to speak to her business owner to business owner. I explained that we would be MORE than happy to pay what was due (2nd half of the space rental and a portion of the vendor booth sales that had been agreed upon at the time of the contract signing) but she had NO right to the ticket sales profits that my brother and his team had worked so hard to raise! To make matters worse, I found out that she had her useless "security guard" count all entries near the door and came up with a sum of more than half the money we had in the cash box! Ill admit I lost it at this point. She threatened to sue us and her mignon grounds keeper kept threatening that she was on the North Park Community Board and we'd never get their support in the future. The last straw was when I discovered that she drew up a SECOND contract (since the 1st was useless to her claim on our money) that demanded the sum she had come up with. She caught my brother in a moment of frustration and had him sign it without any of his other team members knowing. Sure he made a huge mistake but the audacity and sheer criminality of this woman was jaw dropping. I was beside myself with anger and decided to let the North Park Comminity know that Queen Bee is a theif, a liar and a dirty cheat! Seriously the worst place ever. I literally just paid $10 to see my husbands band play because the front desk lady apparently is a sole-less human being. I would not advise anyone in their right mind to come watch a friends or family member here unless they want to be overcharged and under serviced. read more

Although there are events and all sorts of classes all week, I usually only come on Sunday nights for salsa social dancing. The music and dancers are usually both good and fun. There is also a separate room that mainly plays bachata. Food and drinks are available for sale. Finding parking can sometimes be a challenge. I don't usually attend any of the lessons prior to open dancing, but they seem to be fairly popular - and worth taking for those interested in learning something new.
