Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts is Toronto's main home for opera and ballet, which…read moreopened in 2006 and was designed specifically for world‑class acoustics, making it the first purpose‑built opera house of its kind in Canada. It offers seating for just over 2,000 people. Inside, the space feels open and elegant, with easy access from Osgoode Station and an underground parking garage. It hosts performances by the Canadian Opera Company and The National Ballet of Canada, along with special events throughout the year. The performances are well-organized and staff are friendly and helpful.

If I could, I wanted to give negative score because I'm hugely disappointed and actually very angry…read moreabout the Four Seasons Centre (FSC)'s cancellation of 6 Shen Yun shows recently. I was inside FSC on March 29, when it cancelled the first Shen Yun show, citing an bomb threat that Toronto Police shortly confirmed on site as a hoax. Then after I changed my tickets to April 5 show, I was again informed by the presenter that FSC unilaterally cancel all 5 remaining shows citing new threats which again police deemed as "unfounded" threat according to CP24 and other media. Here I need to tell you some background. I'm a big fan of Shen Yun Performing Arts and has been enjoying the show every year when it comes to Toronto. I know that Shen Yun has been a target by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) because the show portraits a China before Communism and the artists practice a persecuted spiritual discipline called Falun Gong! One of the most used tactics that the CCP attempts to stop Shen Yun from being seen is to send FAKE bomb threats to the show presenters or theatres. There have been about 200 such incidents globally according to Shen Yun's website. But not a single time had a Shen Yun show been cancelled until the one I went to see at the FSC. It's really nonsense and unprofessional. Further more, you know what? The same day when FSC cancelled Shen Yun shows, our Canadian minister led a business delegate arriving in Beijing ready to strengthening financial ties with China. Among the delegate was FSC owner Canada Opera Company (COC)'s sponsor BMO. COC general director, the person who gave the directive of cancellation of Shen Yun, has a long-time relationship with the Chinese government. The vice-chair of the COC board serves at a Canadian company that has four decades of deep relationship with China and was praised by the Chinese leader. As a Chinese Canadian immigrated from China, it's clear to me that these are not just coincident. That's why I'm deeply concerned that a hostile foreign government, the CCP, can suffocate our artistic freedom so easily with ZERO cost yet our Canadian institutions gave up our principles so easily!

I have nothing but rave reviews on both counts. The 2nd floor is quite large, has an excellent stage, terrific lighting, and wonderful sound system, run by a total professional. I saw a show called The Practice Show which, I was told was pretty much a rehearsal with improv troupes trying out new material, new forms, etc.. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of work. The teams were tight and showed strong, listening skills, which is especially hard when you were trying out new things. It's an excellent show that is in the space most Monday nights and I definitely think you should check it out. As a producer, I produced a show on the 3rd floor, which is the smaller more intimate space. Our show was a mixture of older and younger comedians. I think it's important for the generations to play together. Renting The Cabaret 3rd fl Space at SoCap was terrific! The warmth they showed, and the level of professionalism at SoCap is unparalleled. The deal is phenomenal, and this little space is a gem! It's so nice up there, that it's like stumbling into a little secret space. This is my first choice space in Toronto!! I'm going to be at SoCap again later this month to see The Stupid Good Show with The Coincidence Men and guests, which happens the last Friday of every month. Looking forward to it!

Some groups were more insync than others but never a dull moment. Great way to support these groups starting out. Really entices us to take up improv as well. The final act was by Affirmative Improv and they asked the audience to submit a confession via penned note. They read them out loud and then expertly improv a few of them together in a skit. Haha did not expect a bit of musical to come out of it too. Great times and would happily do it again. The way the tables are set up, it's great for groups of 4's so perfect to make it a double date night or date night. We were able to grab the seats near the front by being just a few minutes before the show starts.
