We purchased a full Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove appliance suite from the Independence Boulevard location of Queen City Audio Video & Appliances, doing business as Queen City HomeStore, along with an Electrolux washer and dryer set, for our new home build. Given the significant investment--equivalent to the cost of a vehicle--we expected a much higher level of service, installation expertise, and customer support. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. The installation team was represented as Sub-Zero certified, yet multiple appliances were installed incorrectly. Several parts were missing from the original shipment, and our Sub-Zero grill was damaged after installers attempted to force it into place upside down before realizing it needed to be repositioned correctly. The damage was severe enough that the grill had to be replaced. The installers also wore shoes throughout our home without protective covers and were not particularly professional or courteous. When a certified Sub-Zero repair technician from Gantt later came to replace the damaged grill, they discovered additional installation issues that should never have happened. The refrigerator brackets had not been secured to the wall, creating a potential safety concern. We also learned that the beverage center door was not the correct configuration for our order--the handle was on the right side instead of the left. The door had been installed upside down, requiring additional service and correction. Our experience with the Electrolux washer and dryer was equally frustrating. We quickly discovered that the washer drum was damaging our clothing. When we reached out to the Independence Boulevard store for assistance, we discovered the location had closed and were repeatedly directed to work directly with Electrolux rather than receiving support from the retailer where we made the purchase. After being unable to resolve the issue with the original store, we were directed to another Queen City HomeStore location for assistance. Unfortunately, the resolution process remained slow and difficult, and we felt passed between the retailer and manufacturer rather than supported by either. After months of trying to resolve the issue through normal channels, we ultimately had to dispute the purchase through our credit card company to force a resolution. As a result, we spent nearly six months using a washer that was ruining our clothes while trying to get the problem addressed. After this experience, we purchased an LG washer and dryer directly from LG. The process was seamless, the customer service was excellent, and we have had no issues. While we were very impressed with the professionalism and expertise of Gantt's certified Sub-Zero technician, we cannot say the same about our experience with Queen City Audio Video & Appliances. For the amount we spent on appliances for our new home, we expected competent installation, responsive customer service, and support when problems arose. Instead, the entire process became a lengthy, frustrating, and expensive headache that left us feeling unsupported once the sale was complete. read more

Hands down - has been the worst experience and I will NEVER do business with Queen City again. As a business owner myself, my husband and I chose to forgo the big box stores to purchase all new appliances and try to support a local CLT retailer. We planned to FULLY renovate our kitchen at the end of October, so consciously placed our appliance order with Queen City in July for all major appliances (fridge, cooktop, microwave, double ovens, and more). In October (the week our demo started) the store informed us that the warehouse in CLT dropped our cooktop and it would need to be re-ordered. There was never an apology or remorse for their own mistake. We are SIX WEEKS PAST that phone call and no appliance has ever been delivered. I have been extremely patient, but every week when I call for an update to this DAY there has never been an apology, or accountability for THEIR mistake. I have to chase someone down every week for any sort of information that they "might be able to find" in the system. My entire renovation is paused 'midway' ... they act as if this happens all the time and WE ARE BOTHERING THEM following up on the order we placed in July. Just abysmal customer service. Again, as a business owner myself I am completely disappointed with our experience and would NOT recommend them to anyone. read more

Was referred to this business by another business. Was referred to speak with Robbie and he treated me very well! Helped me pick out a new washer/dryer and refrigerator for my new home. Told Robbie exactly what I was looking for and price point. Also gave him dimensions for the areas of the appliances. They had exactly what I needed in stock and was able to deliver the following business day. Visited the store on a Friday and appliances were delivered on Monday. I have the privilege of Charlie and Devin delivering and installing my appliances. They were very careful and precise on bringing in the appliances to the home. They installed the appliances and showed me how they worked. They also cleaned up after themselves, which was a bonus. Even offer to haul away my old washer/dryer for me even though it was not on the paperwork. I would refer Queen City Home Store if you are looking for appliances. They also have furniture that I will be looking at next my next time in the store. If you visit for appliances as for Robbie and if possible ask for Charlie and Devin to deliver your items! read more

We built a new home, and got all of our appliances from Queen City in Pineville, NC. Got a Jenn Air wall oven, microwave/convection combo oven. We have had nothing but problems with this unit. Most recent was an issue with the microwave/convection oven. It started to smoke so we called Queen City (as we have an extended warranty), to have a repairman look at it. It took a week for the service call, and 30 mins prior to arriving they cancelled the appointment, after my husband left work early to be there for them. They set another appointment with a different company for the following week. When they came out, they looked at the appliance and stated they needed to order parts and would be back. (We are now 2 days out of work). Came back to do the repair (3rd day out of work), and we thought everything was good. A day later we went to use the microwave and it would not work. Tried to contact Queen City and asked for the store manager, took him 3 days to call back. We are trying to have this repaired, but cannot take any more time off from work, and they will not do anything to accommodate us in that regard, even though we have already lost 3 days, and have been inconvenienced for a month now. We are approaching the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays, and do not know if this will be repaired in time. I am not a happy customer with Queen City and/or their warranty department, New Leaf. This is the worst retailer I have ever dealt with. We purchased a brand new Kitchenaid fridge for $3k+. Day 1 and it wasn't working, freezer wouldn't get cold and ice maker didn't make ice. Instead of allowing us to return or get a replacement, they attempted to fix the fridge. The repairman indicated this would likely lead to additional issues since the entire back was covered in ice. After numerous calls/messages to customer service, they have not been able to assist or help us. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. read more

The customer service here is the absolute worst. No calls back or information for days. I have to message several times to get an answer and the answer is vague. I will NEVER buy anything from this place again. The furniture is less than a year old and is falling apart. If this place goes out of business, I would not be surprised in the least. Furniture should not start falling apart 15 months after it was purchased. I will never be buying anything from this store again. UPDATE: Reply to Roddy. Sending new legs is fine, but that is not addressing the root cause of the issue. The legs were not put on the couch properly to begin with. They were not tightened or screwed in appropriately, and the mechanism they screwed into had to be repaired. I spent $133 to have this furniture repaired properly. I feel a reimbursement is in order to make things right. Posting back that you took care of the issue, when it was not fully closed out is not appropriate, and not fully taking care of the customer. read more

I bought a new home and needed new appliances. Having passed the store and signage which stated that they had next day delivery, I stopped by and checked their appliance offering and again, delivery options. I also shopped other appliance locations s looking for the same opportunities. One day prior to my closing I dropped by to verify next day delivery as well as the selected appliances. Again I was assured that next day delivery was no problem, so I returned to make the purchases immediately after my home closing. On my moving day I received a message that the delivery was headed to my home. They arrived with only a washer and dryer; no refrigerator! The excuse was it was damaged. (A store of this volume certainly has more than one refrigerator per style in their inventory.). The delivery person told me the refrigerator would be delivered the following Monday. This was Saturday. Calling the service line and the salesman was a futile effort of phone tag and endless voicemails. Monday, no refrigerator; no explanation! A trip to the store would naturally be effective, right? How about this salesman was in "training" but I could leave a written complaint with the lady at the desk and she would assure me that he would handle it. Nothing! In the meantime, having packed the contents of my refrigerator for Saturday move in August resulted in the loss of meats, vegetables, and condiments. Reimbursement for loss or explanation for delay, nope. Five days later, here comes the refrigerator, too big to fit my door; not the one I ordered. So I start to hear pounding a d banging at my front door. This man was attempting to remove my front door and chipping my door frame in the process!!! Did he ask or even tell me, nope! I rushed over to stop him and told him not to deliver it. So, now he gets the bright idea to harness it with his coworker to bring it inside. Again, they fought it inside without my consent, setting it up and leaving. I never signed the delivery paperwork and once again, called the store to let them know that. No response. I purchased a brand new washer dryer set from Queen City Audio Video and Appliances at the end of August, was delivered first of September. After two days of running washer, it started making a clicking noise. Called QC and they sent out a service tech. He tells me the transmission is bad. They want to repair it, I will not agree to repairing a washer that I just bought! The manager Ben Willis refuses to replace the washer and says he will only repair it. Have lived in Charlotte since 87 and done business with them throughout the years. Roddey Sr always was stand up. I would've thought Roddey Player Jr would be as well? This is my last time to do business with them and I'll make sure plenty of my contacts and neighbors know not to as well. Unfortunately, this is untrue as I was called on 9/9 at 5pm and was told Ben Willis would only authorize a repair to the washing machine. Your company may be selling well but if you keep conducting business this way, you will lose in the end. read more

We went to the QC home store (this is the only location) to shop for a mattress. Walking through the door we were greeted immediately (nice touch!) So, we walked to the man who greeted us, sitting behind his workplace desk, Emory Lewis, and inquired about mattresses. Emory took us to the second floor of the store, the floor with furniture (which I did not know QC carried.) He knowledgeably and patiently told us everything we wanted to know about mattresses (answering every question my husband asked.) After much time, testing and retesting mattresses, we made a selection. Emory was with us the entirety. Back at his desk to finalize the sale, my husband had new questions about kitchen appliances. Once again, Emory proved knowledgeable (and patient) during our search and selection process. We probably spent over 2 hours with him and came away with more items than we had originally been shopping for, but needed. We were very please with the whole experience. read more

My elderly mother bought a new sewing machine on Oct. 29, 2020, but its gear box broke the first week of January 2021. Whirlpool's repairman told her that the gear box was broken, had to be replaced, and gear boxes were on back order indefinitely. When they heard that she was shopping for a used washing machine to replace her new one, Queen City stepped up and delivered a new machine to my mother so that she would not have to wait months to have hers repaired. Queen City is a fine example of an old Charlotte business that really cares for its customer. read more

I unfortunately did not have a good experience. I had great hopes for this place. I went in looking for furniture and found that they had great furniture and I was impressed with the quality. The staff that day was friendly. It all went down hill from there. I have now been trying to get all of the furniture that I ordered for over 4 weeks now. I have been given the run around and talked to several sales people who didn't have answers. I don't blame them. That isn't their job. The manager has been difficult to get a hold of and when I do she seems to not know what is going on. I have been given several different stories. I am hopeful that I can get the furniture and move on. I so wish I could recommend them but cannot because of how bad the communication and delivery expectations have been. read more

My wife and I recently bought GE Profile gas range with double ovens and a corresponding range hood from Queen City Appliances. What began as a bad experience ended as a testimony to Queen City's desire to do right by their customers. Though there were many frustrating moments, we came away more than happy as we worked out problems with Queen Cit's customer service department. When the crew appeared to install the range hood and the gas range, they could not get the hood unit to work. It was getting no electricity. That was replaced as soon as a new unit could be shipped to us, but we suffered a delay of almost two weeks. We had further difficulties with the range/double oven. The installation crew checked to see if the burners were functioning, but they did not check the ovens. The first time we tried to use an oven, we discovered that neither the top nor the bottom unit was getting any gas. The GE technician who came to the house discovered a faulty valve asnd sent for a part. But before that arrrived, the woman in charge of curtomer service at Queen City Applicances called to tell us GE would deliver a new range for us. We were impressed that she took this initiative without any prompting from us. Though it took a month from the date of the original delivery, we now have a hood and a range that function. And if a month seems a long time to wait, know that Queen City compensated us for the delay with a monetary payment. In the end, Queen City Appliances behaved well and, on balance, I would say that GE did the same. I've bought a refrigerator and washer/dryer from Queen City in the past and had good experiences. After my most recent purchase of a dishwasher I will no longer do business with them. The in store experience was seamless, but the delivery and installation process was a complete nightmare. Bought the dishwasher on a Saturday and scheduled delivery/install for the following Wednesday between 12-4. Get a call when delivery is on the way and installers show up around noon. When they arrive they tell me my install requires a 10 foot hose and they only have a 6 foot. Apparently a 10 foot hose isn't unusual, why don't they carry it on the truck? Regardless, they leave the dishwasher at my house and tell me they will reschedule the install for the next day (Thursday) between 12-4. 30 minutes later I get a call that they can come between 1-4 the same day (Wednesday). I confirm this new time. By 4 I hadn't heard anything so I call to follow up. They assure me someone is on the way, but if they don't show, "worst case" they'll come tomorrow. I get a call at 6pm from someone saying they are 20 minutes away. At this point it's too late. I tell them to come tomorrow at the 12-4 time. I get an automated call and text around 8 pm that night to confirm an install time of 8:30am-12:30pm the next day, which was confusing, but I confirm. 12:30 the next day I haven't heard anything, so I call again. Turns out that automated message was wrong, I'm scheduled for 12-4. Installers finally show up around 2 pm Thursday. Installer tells me he had to drill new holes and run the power/water at the bottom of my Lazy Susan, which is different than how our previous dishwasher was set up. I trust he knows what he's talking about. Big mistake. Now the bottom of the Lazy Susan will not turn because the hose/power is in the way. At this point I will either fix it on my own or have my plumber come out to install it correctly. Queen City seems to have no concern or respect for their customers. I spent way too much time and energy dealing with this situation. After reading other reviews it appears my situation is not unique. I will never do business with them again. read more
